The pelvic floor muscles (PFM) are superficial muscles that exist in the base of the pelvis. Like any other muscle or muscle group in the body, the PFM can be weak or strong. The difference between the pelvic floor and other muscles, however, is that it can be hard to gauge overall strength.

Changes in the function of these muscles can lead to symptoms that include pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. Maintaining PFM strength can help support bladder and bowel function, in addition to sexual sensation. These muscles may also increase stability in the hips and pelvis, and aid with pumping blood and lymph from the pelvis to the heart. Although measuring the strength of these muscles can be difficult, it is necessary because it makes you more self-aware. You’ll know what you need to strengthen based on correct contraction.

Symptoms Of Weak Pelvic Floor

Failure to keep the pelvic floor muscles strong means that you cannot perform the essential functions in the previous paragraph. Weak pelvic floor muscles can lead to the following symptoms:

 • A strong need to urinate and not always making it to the bathroom in time
 • Accidentally leaking urine while exercising, sneezing, coughing, or laughing
 • A feeling of heaviness or general discomfort in the vagina or rectum
 • A need to urinate often (eight or more times a day and more than once during the night)
 • General pain or discomfort in the pelvic area during sexual intercourse

Testing Pelvic Floor Strength

Not only do the PFMs need to maintain a sustained resting tone, but also an ability to contract quickly. Proper strength helps with continence, sexual function, and an ability to relax to allow for easy urination and bowel elimination. Testing PFM strength is not as easy as assessing regular bicep contraction, for example. Power, speed of contraction, endurance, and the ability to relax need evaluation when it comes fo PFM.

Take A Look

Start in a seated position with your back supported and knees propped up so that both your knees and hips are bent. Use a mirror to observe your vaginal and anal area. Contract your muscles as if you are trying to hold in your urine and you should notice that your muscles draw inwards and upwards. Ideally, they pull away from the mirror.

External Assessment

Lie down on your back and bend your knees. Use a pillow to support your head, or lie on your side with a pillow between your knees for comfort. With either hand, place four fingers over the perineum (area between the vaginal canal and rectum) and contract your pelvic floor as if to stop the floor of urine. This is similar to the above exercise. The area under your finger should lift and pull upwards if the pelvic muscles are strong. You should not feel additional pressure where the fingers are if you contract correctly.

Internal Vaginal Self-Assessment

Before the internal self-assessment, it’s important to clean your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Repeat the exact same steps as the above assessment, lying on your back or side, supporting your head or knees with a pillow. Insert your clean index finger (using lubricant if necessary) into the vaginal canal until the base of the middle knuckle. Same as above, contract your pelvic floor as if stopping the flow of urine. A strong pelvic floor contraction will have an upward lift, and you’ll feel some tension when you try to remove your finger from the vagina. Holding the lift for 10 seconds is a good indication of pelvic floor strength and endurance.

How To Strengthen The Pelvic Floor

If you think that your pelvic floor is weak or in need of strengthening, there are several exercises to improve strength. Some of the most notable exercises to enhance pelvic floor strength include kegels, adductor ball squeeze, and bridge with adductor ball squeeze. There are many video tutorials of these exercises online, so please look them up in order to do them properly.

The post 5 Common Health Risks Women Face Post-Menopause appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

For every woman, menopause is a significant time that involves a series of physiological changes. The series of symptoms or changes can vary before, during, or after a woman experiences menopause. The age at which menopause occurs will depend on multiple factors. Race, prior ovulations, lifestyle habits, socioeconomic status, and prior surgeries all influence the onset of menopause.

What Is Post-Menopause?

Menopause marks the cessation of a woman’s menstrual cycle, and post-menopause is the stage after a woman has not had her period for a year or longer. During this stage, a woman has an increased risk of various health complications. The hormones that regulate menstrual cycle also play other roles in the body. The imbalance of these hormones can lower or diminish the body’s defenses. For example, post-menopausal women have an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, and several other conditions.

Estrogen levels drop significantly in a woman’s post-menopausal years. During menopause, estrogen fluctuates at a wild rate, but levels don’t drop like they do during post-menopause. In addition to estrogen plummets, a post-menopausal woman can experience higher triglyceride, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and blood pressure levels. It’s good to be mindful of this if you want to combat these bodily changes. Learn more about potential post-menopausal health risks below.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is the most common worry for women, as it’s possible to lose 25% of bone density after menopause. A 2017 study confirmed that women are four times as likely as men to develop the condition. Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to thin and the change in bone density can increase the risk of bone fractures. The most common areas that experience fractures or breaks include the hips, wrists, and spine. It’s wise to make lifestyle adjustment to get ahead of the condition, and you can speak to your doctor or nutritionist about the right steps to take.

Weight Gain

This may not seem like a health risk, but an inability to control weight can lead to other, more serious conditions. The altered hormone levels negatively impact a woman’s metabolism, which can cause the body to easily gain fat. It’s also common for a woman with a slower metabolism to lose lean tissue mass as well. Menopausal belly fat can be more serious than an eyesore. More fat around the midsection increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, and a recent study found that it also increases the risk of heart disease. If you need help losing that menopausal muffin top, click here

Urinary Incontinence

The tissues in the urethra and bladder contain estrogen and progesterone receptors. The tissues are naturally thickened by both of those hormones. When those levels drop after menopause, the tissues become thin and weak. This is why post-menopausal women can commonly experience urinary incontinence. Stress-related urinary incontinence is quite common, and it can occur when sneezing, coughing, or during physical activity. Some research, however, states that urinary incontinence is more of an age-related problem than a post-menopausal issue. That being said, many researchers claim that estrogen plays a role in urinary incontinence.

Cardiovascular Disease

It’s common for women to think that breast cancer is the biggest threat to their health, but life after menopause involves a serious risk of cardiovascular disease. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), about one-third of women develop cardiovascular disease. The risk of heart attack increases for women about a decade after menopause. One of the primary reasons for this is because estrogen levels drop. Estrogen maintains blood vessel flexibility, helping vessels contract and expand to aid optimal blood flow. This flexibility diminishes post-menopause, which can cause a rise in blood pressure and thicker arterial walls. You can take control of this by following a heart-healthy diet, quitting smoking, and exercising regularly.

Urinary Tract Infection

The decline of estrogen after menopause can cause vaginal tissue to become dry and thin. This occurrence can make it easier for bacteria to thrive, which increases the risk of urinary tract infection (UTI). Ultimately, a woman’s risk of a UTI will depend on individual lifestyle factors. A 2019 study found that the risk of UTI doubled for women over age 65, and 10% of post-menopausal women reported a UTI within the past year. While UTIs naturally increase with age, overall health can increase or decrease the risk of getting one.

It’s crazy to think that bacteria can be beneficial for your health. We have been conditioned to ward off bacteria to keep the body health, often resorting to antibiotics to kill bacterial infections or using antibacterial soaps to wash away germs. The wrong bacteria can obviously be problematic, but the right bacteria may be exactly what you need to boost overall health.

Enter probiotics…

A growing body of scientific research suggests that consuming healthy live bacteria can prevent some illnesses, especially those that originate in the gut. Probiotics are microorganisms that are friendly bacteria, which are typically from fermented foods. Northern Europeans have actually been consuming probiotics for years because their diet contains a lot of fermented drinks, yogurts, and vegetables.

A Brief History Of Probiotics

The root of probiotic comes from the Greek pro, promoting, and biotic, life. Probiotics are a relatively recent discovery, considering that the “father of probiotics,” a man named Elie Metchnikoff, discovered their significance in the early 20th century. He observed rural life in Bulgaria, and the people seemed to live very long lives, despite poverty and harsh climate. He found that these people consumed fermented foods, which he studied and found that intestinal microbiome could be influenced by these friendly bacteria. He also found that senility could be delayed by increasing the presence of friendly bacteria in the gut.

Great Probiotic Foods

 • Sauerkraut
 • Kimchi
 • Kombucha
 • Fermented vegetables
 • Miso
 • Kefir

What Are Microbes And Why Do They Matter?

Microbes are incredibly tiny organisms that include fungi, parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Millions of microbes can fit into the eye of a needle, and yet these microorganisms are powerful enough to influence overall health. Microorganisms in the body outnumber human cells ten to one, with trillions of microorganisms inhabiting the gut, nose, skin, and other areas of the body. The National Institute of Health (NIH) sponsors the Human Microbiome Project (HMP), an organization that researches microbial communities and how they affect health and disease.

The Benefits Of Probiotics

Probiotics For Your Gut

Probiotics have been used to help treat both diarrhea and constipation, which is a more common problem in the United States. For diarrhea, large scientific reviews suggest that probiotics work to reduce antibiotic-related diarrhea in adults by 60%. Other studies found that probiotics shortened the duration of infectious diarrhea in infants and children. The digestive tract needs a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria, but lifestyle and diet (stress, lack of sleep, poor food choices, drugs, antibiotics, and more) often tip the scales in favor of bad bacteria. Probiotics won’t solve your gastrointestinal problems if you continue to make poor lifestyle and dietary choices, but they can offer assistance in establishing a healthy gut microbiome. Further dietary and lifestyle changes need to accompany probiotic consumption to reach optimal gut health.

Probiotics For Vaginal Health

Probiotics may be every woman’s new go-to for maintaining urogenital health. The vagina is a delicately balanced ecosystem, just like the gastrointestinal tract, meaning that an imbalanced system can result in urinary tract infections, bacterial vaginosis, or yeast infections, to name some common female urogenital problems. Oral contraceptives, antibiotics, and spermicides can throw the balance out of whack, but probiotics can help restore healthy vaginal flora. The consumption of probiotics has helped improve bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections, but more research needs to be done on how they affect urinary tract infections.

Probiotics For Heart Health

As you have learned in this article, there are many strains of probiotics, some of which may have the ability to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. By breaking down bile in the gut, lactic acid-producing bacteria help reduce cholesterol levels. Since bile is primarily comprised of cholesterol, it tends to be reabsorbed in the gut, where it enters the bloodstream. Probiotics may prevent this reabsorption from occurring.

Probiotics For Eczema

Eczema is a common skin problem in infants and children. Recent studies have found that the addition of probiotics to a child’s diet may reduce the severity of eczema breakouts. Another study examined how probiotics affected pregnant women and their babies. The findings indicated that the children had an 83% lower risk of developing eczema during their first tow years of life. More research needs to be done in this field, but early anti-inflammatory results are promising.

Probiotics For Immune Function

The increased presence of beneficial gut bacteria has been know to give your immune system a little boost. By adding probiotics to your diet, you help to increase the production of antibodies and other immune cells like T lymphocytes and IgA-producing cells. A large scientific review found that adults who took probiotics had a decreased risk of respiratory infections.

]]>

The concept of “you are what you eat” applies to your overall health, including your precious lady parts. Some women may take probiotics and use mild soaps to maintain a healthy vagina, but these measures can still result in conditions like bacterial vaginosis (BV), for instance. According to research, the foods you eat can influence your vaginal health, from having BV or yeast infections to maintaining a healthy pH to ward off infections and bacteria.

A healthy vagina will have a naturally acidic pH to keep everything normal and free of infection. The foods you eat, however, can influence that pH level. Asparagus, broccoli, certain spices, red meat, dairy products, and alcohol can all affect the vagina’s natural balance. Similar to the gut microbes in the stomach, the vagina manages a delicate balance of naturally occurring bacteria. There is a link between gut bacteria and vaginal bacteria, and while it may not be a direct connection, they are linked nonetheless.

This theory presents the fact that a dietary change can influence your vaginal health for the worse or better. If the amount of bad bacteria in the gut or vagina outnumbers the amount of good bacteria, women may be more susceptible to infections, despite the hygienic measures that are taken. If good bacteria exceed the amount of bad bacteria, the vagina has a better chance of staying as healthy as possible.

Eating For Two: You And Your Vagina

To maintain vaginal health, Mary Rosser, M.D., Ph.D., ob-gyn at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, recommends filling up on plenty of water, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. It is also acceptable to consume unsweetened Greek yogurt or kefir, known sources of probiotics that are intended to improve gut and vaginal health. These probiotics can also help maintain a healthy acidic pH balance in the vagina. You’ll find the best dietary recommendations for vaginal health below.

Avoid Processed Foods

Processed foods have no positive effect on the body. In fact, they can impair the immune system’s ability to function optimally, which can allow bad bacteria to overpopulate down there. When this happens, a woman can experience vaginal dryness, pain during sexual intercourse, urinary tract infections, yeast infections, or BV.

Eat Prebiotics And Probiotics

The vagina, much like the digestive system, requires healthy bacteria to fight infections. Prebiotics and probiotics are some of the best foods to promote a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut and vagina. According to research, women with vaginitis and chronic vaginal discomfort have decreased symptoms and when they consume more pre and probiotics. If the goal is to improve gut and vaginal health, start eating prebiotics like onions, garlic, and raw leeks along with probiotics like kombucha, kimchi, sauerkraut, tempeh, and yogurt. Strive to eat these food sources of prebiotics and probiotics because the supplements are not always as beneficial.

Stay Hydrated

If you are thirsty or experiencing mild dehydration, it is safe to assume that the vagina is too. Many unusual odors can emit from down there when the body is not sufficiently hydrated. If you didn’t believe in consuming half of your bodyweight in ounces of water before, you sure should now!

Avoid Meat And Dairy Products

Meat, meat products, and dairy products are often high in fat and calories, both of which may increase the risk of BV. Meats and dairy products often contain xenoestrogens, which are artificial hormones that imitate estrogen. Research suggests that these hormones can block estrogen from the vagina, preventing the formation of the mucosal lining and increasing a woman’s risk of infection.

Focus On Fresh Foods

There is no single ingredient or food that will magically improve your vaginal health, or your overall health for that matter. You shouldn’t look to only consume one food; rather, it is beneficial to consume a well-balanced, vitamin-rich, plant-based diet. Healthy fats from nuts, olive oil, and avocados can help balance estrogen levels, creating a healthy mucosal lining. Almonds and other nuts, on the other hand, contain essential B-vitamins and calcium, both of which help to prevent vaginitis. Eat the rainbow to diversify your nutrient and antioxidant intake!

Take It Easy With Sugar

Bacteria can feed on sugar, and consuming lots of sugary foods can also damage or kill off the beneficial bacteria in the vagina. Think of sugar as the opposite of probiotic because it is no good for the body. As we mentioned before, a bacterial imbalance can lead to soreness, irritation, or infections.

Yeast infections can be embarrassing, even though they are extremely common. While it is more common for women (roughly affecting 75% of women at some point in life) to develop yeast infections, men can also develop them. Most yeast infections are caused by the Candida albicans organism, which can induce severe itchiness, redness, or a white discharge.

One of the best ways, specifically for women, to discourage yeast development is to keep the vaginal area dry and clean. Try to wear loose clothing, wear cotton underwear, and practice good hygiene. If you have a yeast infection, make sure that you don’t share towels with anyone because that can spread the infection. Because yeast infections can be treated naturally, try the holistic remedies below and let us know how they work for you.

Aloe Vera

Because aloe vera has antifungal properties, it is one of the best natural remedies for combating yeast infections. If possible, try to use fresh aloe vera so that you don’t have to deal with preservatives, additives, or chemicals. Take 1 tablespoon of aloe vera twice a day and you can apply fresh aloe topically to the affected area until it heals.

Manuka Honey

While yeast feeds on sugar, Manuka honey has antifungal properties that work well to fight off a yeast infection. Apply a liberal tablespoon of Manuka honey topically twice a day until symptoms go away.

Garlic

You’ll think that garlic has superpowers, if you don’t already think that, after you use it as a natural remedy. Eating 2-3 garlic cloves per meal can be beneficial, but you can also insert a garlic clove vaginally. We aren’t going to lie: this can burn. If you are sensitive then avoid that method and add garlic to juices or meals instead.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can help rid the body of the infection by creating a more alkaline environment. Don’t worry, you don’t have to use this vaginally. Mix 1 tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of filtered water and drink that three times a day until the infection goes away.

Coconut Oil

If you are experiencing burning or itching, you can apply coconut oil topically to provide relief. You can also ingest 1-2 tablespoons of organic, virgin coconut oil to attack the infection from the inside.

Probiotics

Probiotics promote healthy gut flora and help to boost the immune system. Some of the best probiotic foods to eat include kombucha, kimchi, sauerkraut, fermented vegetables, and kefir. Make sure to read the ingredient list to ensure the probiotics don’t have sugar.

The post 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Your Period appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Ladies, ladies, ladies…as much as you may hate periods, there are some things you may or may not know about them. Menstrual blood, for instance, is actually pretty cool. In fact, the stem cells found in menstrual blood are more powerful than those found in bone marrow. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Menstruation is a part of life for women. From the time a woman gets her period until menopause, most women dread that time of the month. It isn’t fun, it’s expensive (tampons and pads, which are basic necessities, are taxed), and you can experience different health symptoms.

Here are some interesting period facts that you may have been unaware of until right now.

#1: Cramps Aren’t Normal

Even though you may think it is normal to have them, it isn’t. Cramps can indicate that there’s something else going on in your body, for example, that your estrogen count is high. Or maybe you ate too much sugar, which triggered the inflammatory response. If you have a fibroid, cyst, or something irritating the uterus, which could also be the cause of cramps.

#2: Don’t Blame Sugar Cravings on PMS

Some women have the urge to go for chocolate or foods high in carbs when they menstruate. This could mean that you have low progesterone levels, and progesterone is the hormone that helps regulate blood sugar. You may want to get some blood work done to check your progesterone levels. A healthy woman’s body requires adequate intake of foods rich in vitamin B6 in order to produce enough progesterone. Foods rich in vitamin B6 include walnuts, bananas, beans, spinach, fermented soy and potatoes.

#3: Tampons Contribute to Bacterial Infections

Tampons can cause bacterial infections, including vaginal dryness or the rare toxic shock syndrome (TSS). This is because tampons are made up of material that certain bacteria like. A good alternative may be a menstrual cup, which is a reusable cup that collects period blood. Pads are also a viable and can sometimes be a less toxic option (stay away from bleached cotton). Think about it.

#4: The Days Before Your Period Mimic Pregnancy

The body is preparing for pregnancy in the days leading up to your period. This means that the body secretes certain hormones such as progesterone. If you’ve ever felt bloated or have had tender breasts, it is because your body isn’t used to that sudden hormone rush. You can counteract this by avoiding alcohol or caffeine in the week leading up to your period. Both of these can fluctuate your mood and hormones, so avoiding these can help keep you level. Additionally, you can eat omega-3 fatty acids (flaxseeds or walnuts are highest) to balance mood and keep your brain healthy.

#5: Insomnia Should Be Looked Into

If your period causes you to have insomnia, it may be because you have a very low amount of progesterone. Proper progesterone levels help you sleep, so you may need to get your progesterone levels checked by a health practitioner.

Vaginal problems are epidemic today amongst American women. Vaginal cancer, vaginal atrophy, vaginal bleeding, vaginal odors and mucosal discharges, vaginal yeast infection, vaginal worms and parasites, vaginitis, vaginal warts, and sexually-transmitted diseases are just a few of the health issues pertaining to the vagina.

The culprits include, but are not limited to:

 • The poor American diet, which focuses on excessive meat and dairy intake, refined grains, acidic beverages, etc.
 • Birth control pills and other forms of contraceptive, condoms
 • Female hygiene and sanitary products (pads and napkins)
 • Douching and
 • Tight clothing

Vaginal Discharges

There is a natural and healthy female discharge as contrasted with an unhealthy discharge. A vaginal discharge that is clear or pearly-white without a fetid odor occurs naturally. This discharge serves as sign of fertility and is a good or healthy sign. This discharge is secreted when a woman is fertile and ready to engage in mating.

A yellowish-greenish discharge accompanied by a fetid odor is unnatural and abnormal. It is a sign that the vagina is unhealthy. Many female sufferers of a sexually-transmitted disease will secrete this kind of discharge with a serious and debilitating inflammation or burning sensation.

Diet

The diet plays the most important role in female vaginal health. But since most women are in the work force today and don’t have time to prepare their own balanced meals, they are dependent on the junk food industry to feed them.

Processed foods are laced with synthetic estrogen hormone (which is why young girls today are fully developed with full breasts, hips, thighs, and buttocks); chemical artificial food coloring and additives; taste enhancers (that work on the hypothalamus gland in the brain which regulates hunger); and cancer-causing sodium nitrates and nitrites.

The biggest vaginal enemy are dairy products and grains. The problem with grains is that women eat too much of the gluten-rich grains. Gluten in bread and grain products (donuts, bagels, cakes, etc.) converts into glue inside the body. Vegetable-based pasta is a much better choice than grain-based pasta.

Eating meat, dairy, refined grains, starches, sugar products, pastries; drinking wine, beer, coffee, hot cocoa, soda pop, milk, etc. causes the body to become acidic which is the perfect catalyst for production of mucus, the bad, thick and yellowish-greenish mucus or phlegm.

Douching

Douching upsets the natural vaginal pH balance and ecology. Douching is not the solution, but instead, changing the diet-a difficult task for most Americans.

The vagina is naturally slightly acidic (4 to 4.5pH). This is a healthy acid level. However, most American female’s vagina has a vaginal pH between (5.1 to 6.0), which is too acidic; that’s why infertility is high today. The vagina is so acidic in many women, the little amount of alkalinity around the sperm cannot survive the acidic environment of the vagina.

However, douching can serve a provisional purpose, especially in cases of yeast and STD infection. However, only herbs and water should be used. The best herbs are the astringent herbs and the herbs that have an affinity for the female vagina. These herbs that have an affinity for the vaginal lining have a lining on their leaves just like the lining of the female vagina. These herbs include:

 • lemon verbena
 • red raspberry leaf
 • squawvine
 • marshmallow
 • mullein.
 • Astringent herbs include witch hazel bark, white oak bark, calendula, and ashoka. A woman can douche with these herbs to help heal a vaginal condition.

Now in cases of yeast infection, a woman can douche with the herbs:

In cases of STD infection (genital herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis, etc.), use herbs like:

 • tronodora
 • usnea
 • guaiac
 • buchu
 • olive leaf
 • neem
 • gokshura
 • mullein

Because yeast infection and parasitic and worm infection are also due to lack of oxygen (in addition to acidity), adding 2 ounces of 35% food-grade hydrogen peroxide or oxygen drops to the douche water or solution will serve most beneficial. The best water for douching purposes is oxygenated and alkaline water. Alkaline water will help bring up and balance the pH.

Female hygiene and sanitary products

Sanitary products cut off the necessary oxygen to the vagina. These products are also manufactured with a dangerous chemical, organochlorine, commonly called dioxin. Now it is used to bleach sanitary pads and napkins.

These ingredients leech into the vagina and reproductive system of the female and mimic estrogen and latch on to estrogen receptor sites where they develop and proliferate and eventually become tumors, benign as well as malignant (cancerous).

The wise choice for a woman to make is to purchase and start using environment-friendly and safe sanitary products bleached with oxygen and made from natural fibers such as cotton (brands such as NatraCare, Glad Rags, etc.).

And what about female or feminine deodorant spray? Spraying a chemical deodorant on the vagina is only masking the problem. Additionally, it is unwise for women to sprinkle vaginal powders on their vaginas. Many of these powders are made with talc, a poisonous substance that eventually makes it way inside the vagina.

Fashion

One of the biggest vaginal enemies of all is tight pants. Tight pants, like tight denim jeans, greatly cut off circulation and deprive the vagina of oxygen, not to mention that since leather is made from cow hide, its energy doesn’t complement or compliment the human energy or aura.

And let’s not forget about tight underwear. So women, let your panties be made from natural fibers such as cotton, hemp, raffia, or linen. Natural fibers radiate a natural aura and energy that is conducive to your natural aura and energy unlike synthetic material (polyester, rayon, etc.). In addition, they allow oxygen into the body.

Sex toys

While it is true that the vagina has an affinity for vibration, the synthetic vibration of a vibrator does not naturally harmonize to the energy of the vagina. A vibrator is not natural. Worse, it’s made of plastic, just like a dildo, which leaches inside the vagina since that is where it is placed.

Conclusion

Women, take charge of the health of your vaginas. Your vaginas are invaded these days with all types of gadgets and substances: condoms, intrauterine devices, lubricants, douche speculums and chemical solutions, pap smear sticks, at-home pregnancy tests, etc.

So start eating healthier. Start thinking positive and embrace your feminine nature. Take female-specific hormone-rich herbs (dong quai, red raspberry, red clover, maca maca, squawvine, black cohosh, lady’s mantle, shepherd’s purse, sarsaparilla, licorice, false unicorn, damiana, and blessed thistle).

Let your vagina breathe. Start balancing and re-aligning your chakras, especially the seventh or root chakra (located at the vagina). Use a clear quartz crystal and/or a jade stone, simply placing it/them two inches over the vagina area (moving up and down) for a few minutes daily.

Like with all other so-called viral infections, the body must be cleansed and there must be an emphasis on cleansing the blood.

The human papillomavirus is a virus that infects keratinocytes (cells on the outer skin) or mucous membranes of humans. There are over a hundred and twenty different varieties that have been identified.

It is estimated that HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. Although most of the most common varieties of HPV cause no symptoms in humans, some can create warts (including but not limited to genital warts) while others (in a small number of cases) may lead to cancers of the vulva, vagina, cervix, penis, oropharynx, and anus. Recent studies suggest that HPV may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, while HPV 16 and 18 infections are associated with increased risk of developing oropharyngeal (throat) cancer.

Causes and Risks

There are three ways that HPV can be transmitted.

First, genital HPV types can be transmitted from mother to child during birth. However, the occurrence of such transmissions is relatively rare, with about two cases per 100,000 children occurring in the United States.

Second, it is also theoretically possible to become infected by sharing contaminated objects. For instance, finger-genital contact would have the capacity to transmit the virus, although such transmission is also very rare.

The most common means of transmission is via sexual intercourse. There are at least forty HPV varieties that infect the genital tract. As Doctor Laura Egendorf shows in the book Sexually Transmitted Diseases, if a woman in college has at least one different partner per year for four years, the likelihood that she will leave college with an HPV infection is greater than 85%.

Symptoms

Not everyone suffering from HPV will experience the same symptoms. There are those who have HPV but experience no symptoms at all. The explanation below offers information on the most commonly reported symptoms experienced.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the body’s immune system will naturally clear away HPV within two years for 90% of the cases. The most common physical symptoms are skin and genital warts.

Skin Warts

The skin warts have different names depending on their location and impact on the human body. They include:

 • Common warts: occur on areas such as the hands, feet, elbows, and knees. In general they have a cauliflower-like surface and are raised from the skin.
 • Plantar warts: found on the soles of the feet. These warts are difficult because they grow inward and create pain upon walking.
 • Subungal/periungal warts: form under the fingernail (subungal) or around the finger and cuticle area (periungal). Because of their location, they can be more difficult to treat.
 • Flat warts: most commonly found on the arms, face, and forehead. They frequently occur in children and teenagers.

Unlike genital warts, skin warts are not likely to spread from person to person.

Genital Warts

Many different varieties of HPV can lead to genital warts. However, types 6 and 11 account for about 90% of all genital warts cases. It is important to remember that even if you or your partner is not displaying genital warts, the infection can still be transmitted.

Treatment

Doctors believe there is no medical cure for HPV. Dherbs believes the body can heal itself, given the opportunity.

There are ways to protect your self from HPV, although they range in the degree of effectiveness. There are measures that can be taken to help prevent the transmission of the virus, but the only way to guarantee no exposure, and therefore no way to contract the virus, is through abstinence.

The male condom may also reduce the risk of HPV infections. It provides a lesser degree of protection when compared to other STDs because it can also be transmitted by exposure to infected skin and mucosal areas that are not protected by the condom. Female condoms are slightly more effective because they protect more of the skin. Some studies suggest that regular condom use limits the spread of HPV to other body parts on already-infected individuals.

In conclusion, be smart about sex. Get regular health exams, and make sure that your partner does too.

Bacterial vaginosis is a chronically inflamed vagina, usually caused by bacteria.

Inflammation is a burning sensation that results from acute acidosis. Inflammatory symptoms include redness (rubor), heat (calor), swelling (tumor), and pain (dolor), accompanied by loss of function.

The vagina is inflamed due to excess acid (acidosis). Basically, the vagina has become too acidic. When the tissues become inflamed due to acidosis, the body’s innate healing mechanisms produce mucus to protect the internal skin (mucous membranes), but in most cases due to the severity of the inflammation (acidosis), the body produces too much mucus and so the excess mucus becomes a problem. In order to get rid of some of this mucus, the vagina discharges it, hence the vaginal discharge.

Causes

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by a disruption of vaginal ecology due to acidity, toxicity, and anaerobia. The negative bacteria flourish and consequently outnumber the good bacteria.

The negative bacteria flourish more and more as the ecology of the vagina becomes more acidic, and the more acidic the vagina becomes, the more inflamed the vagina becomes and thus the more mucus is produced which eventually leads to vaginal discharge.

The odor is a combination of toxicity, old vagina debris, and bacterium. The fouler the odor, the more the message conveyed by the vagina that the vagina is greatly acidic and toxic.

Natural Healing Solutions

A sufferer of bacterial vaginosis should fast for a day or two, followed by modifying the diet (raw foods provisionally and then after relief or healing, subsequently strict vegan). Vegetable juice should be consumed daily and should contain parsley, cilantro, garlic, and ginger in addition to other green veggies.

Drink plenty of water and make sure to add liquid oxygen drops and/or liquid chlorophyll.

Do not wear tight clothing. Tight clothing, especially tight pants, chokes the vagina and prevents it from breathing. The vagina is a breathing orifice by nature and needs oxygen. Lack of oxygen causes anaerobia.

Bathe daily in hot water, seas salt (1-2 boxes), essential oils of Tea Tree, Ravensare, Manuka, Leleshwa, Thyme, and Cedar wood. Thyme and Cedar wood greatly counteract itching

if you choose to douche, the solution should be all herbal and consisting of the following herbs: Red Raspberry Leaf, Thyme, Goldenseal, Echinacea, White Oak Bark, Buchu, Black Walnut Hulls, and Mullein leaf.

In addition to the foregoing herbs, a woman could also use 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide (half an ounce), liquid oxygen drops, liquid chlorophyll, and/or extracts of Neem and/or Calophyllum Inophyllum (3-5 drops each) in her douche solution.

Pellets (to be inserted into the vagina overnight) made of shea butter, essential oils of tea tree, cedar wood, and thyme; and extracts of neem and Calophyllum inophyllum would be a better and safer choice.

To make vaginal pellets, simply melt the shea butter (or cocoa butter or coconut oil) in a pan on the stove and add the oils (and/or the herbs supra in powder form) and stir to a consistency. Allow the butter to cool down and harden. Next, make into pellets by rolling the butter in the palms of the hands. Place the pellets in the refrigerator so they can harden. Take the pellets out of the refrigerator about an hour before bedtime. Insert one pellet into the vagina.

A crystal elixir made of Zincite is also very helpful in healing from bacterial vaginosis.

Dietary Intervention

Now clearly poor diet plays a role in disease, and in female reproductive diseases, the culprits are usually the same:

 • dairy products (cheese, ice cream, sour cream, butter, and yogurt)
 • meat (pork, chicken, turkey, fish, lamb, beef, and seafood)
 • refined grains (pastries donuts, cookies, cakes; bagels, bread, crackers, etc.)
 • refined starches (potato chips, French fries, etc.)
 • sugar
 • salt
 • chemical preservatives
