Meditation, yoga, tai chi, deep breathing, and listening to music can help tame stress. Sometimes, you don’t want to meditate or listen to music because you will only fester and become more agitated. If you want to combat stress without exerting a lot of effort, sitting down and inhaling the scent of essential oils can be a great idea. It is a low-maintenance practice that has proven to be very effective.

The olfactory system affects the part of the brain that regulates emotions. That’s why certain smells can trigger memories or feelings, both negative and positive. A 2016 review of studies found that aromatherapy was effective at reducing pain when combined with regular treatment. Aromatherapy can also be a useful tool to help reduce stress and anxiety. Many people report that aromatherapy helps to establish a general state of calm.

How Do You Choose?

Many research studies have found that various essential oils exhibit stress-reducing and anti-anxiety properties. Generally speaking, you can use essential oils safely, save for a few that should not be used by certain groups, for example, pregnant women. Essential oils require dilution to prevent adverse reactions, so keep concentration levels below 5%. Pay attention to the dosage, purity, and application method. Some oils are perfectly safe when inhaled, but not when applied to the skin, which is why dilution is necessary. When you diffuse essential oils for stress relief, keep the following in mind:

 • Follow proper dilution guidelines.
 • Diffuse intermittently, typically for 30 to 60 minutes on and 30 to 60 minutes off.
 • Make sure you diffuse in a ventilated area.

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood oil comes from the wood and roots of the East Indian sandalwood tree. Many consider this tree to be one of the most valuable trees in the world, primarily because of the health properties. A small study from 2006 found that sandalwood oil was effective at reducing anxiety in participants. Unfortunately, the sample size was too small to draw conclusive evidence, but results were promising.

Lemon Essential Oil

Sourced from the leaves of the lemon plant, lemon essential oil may exhibit sedative and anxiety-reducing properties. Lemon essential oil offers a bright aroma that may help boost your mood and contribute to a positive outlook. A 2018 study found that lemon essential oil had a positive effect on dopamine activities in mice. A previous study from 2005 found that lemon essential oil improved cognitive performance, concentration, and attention span in students during the learning process.

Jasmine Essential Oil

A beautifully scented oil, jasmine essential oil comes from the flowers of the floral jasmine plant. It has been known for its ability to calm the mind and uplift mood. A 2010 study examined jasmine essential oil and found that it increased blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, and blood pressure when compared to a placebo. A 2013 study found that participants who inhaled the aroma of jasmine essential oil experienced a significant decrease in negative emotions and had an overall mood boost.

Clary Sage Essential Oil

Clary sage is a flowering herb native to the Mediterranean region. It may help reduce stress levels because of its ability to decrease cortisol (the stress hormone), as per a 2014 study. This study, which included menopausal women, also found that clary sage essential oil provided antidepressant effects.

Orange Essential Oil

Orange essential oil exhibits anxiolytic properties, meaning it helps reduce anxiety. Because orange essential oil has a vibrant aroma, it may increase alertness or heighten the senses. In conjunction with its calming effects, orange essential oil may help balance your mood and regulate anxiety levels. Unfortunately, it did not have the same effects as tea tree oil did in a controlled study.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Perhaps you drink a cup of chamomile tea if you want to unwind before bed. The chamomile plant is said to have sedative effects, and chamomile essential oil is no different. Chamomile essential oil may exhibit relaxation properties that can aid with sleep. An eight-week study from 2017 found that 58.1% of the participants experienced a reduction in symptoms of severe generalized anxiety disorder after using chamomile extract. A smaller 2018 study found that chamomile therapy was able to reduce symptoms of anxiety and decrease cortisol levels.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Growing on the Cananga tree, ylang ylang is a yellow, star-shaped flower native to countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and parts of Australia. Ylang ylang essential oil may have a relaxing effect by way of decreasing blood pressure. Preliminary research shows that it helps decrease blood pressure, but more research is necessary to confirm these findings.

Are you a perfume junkie? Do you enjoy spritzing body sprays and walking through them to bask in their scent? There is nothing wrong with wanting to smell pleasant or amazing. After all, it is better to smell good than to smell like dirty socks. The problem is that all of these perfumes and body sprays contain synthetic fragrances.

Synthetic fragrances are very common in perfumes or body sprays. Because of the U.S. Fair Packaging and Label Act, manufacturers are not required to list the ingredients in those fragrances. Most of these fragrances do not contain natural products. Pyridine, methyl eugenol, benzophenone, and styrene are a few of the toxic chemicals in perfumes and synthetic fragrances. According to research, these toxins have been known to disrupt endocrine function, cause fertility and reproductive issues, and increase neurological degeneration.

Those are just some of the chemicals. There is no way of knowing the exact ingredients in store bought perfumes and body sprays. That is why homemade body sprays are much safer and better for your health and the environment. The spray in this article, for example, is toxin-free and filled with beneficial essential oils. Do you want to know the best part? DIY body sprays are very easy to make!

DIY Body Spray Ingredients

Free of synthetic chemicals, the DIY body spray only requires a handful of ingredients. It doesn’t call for a double boiler, long infusion process, or anything of that nature. The only thing we emphasize is that you use amber glass bottles. The reason to use amber glass instead of regular glass is because they prioritize the longevity of essential oils. Amber glass essentially shields the essential oils from harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Exposure to UV rays can cause essential oils to break down and lose potency over time.

Distilled Water

Why should you use distilled water in place of tap water for your body spray? The minerals in tap water can clog your spray nozzle and leave residue on the surface. Since water is the base for this body spray, opt for distilled water.

Essential Oils

These give your homemade body spray its lovely scent. You will need a few different essential oils to get the blend that you want. The recipe calls for 20-30 drops of essential oils. If you want a floral aroma, use 10 drops of bergamot essential oil, 10 drops of geranium essential oil, and five drops of ylang ylang essential oil. Prefer a citrus scent? Use 10 drops each of tangerine, lemon, and grapefruit essential oils. Finally, 10 drops of patchouli essential oil, five drops of frankincense essential oil, and five drops of cedarwood essential oil will give an earthy scent.

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable glycerin aids the combination of essential oils and water. It is an optional ingredient, but it does help the scent last a lot longer. Just keep this in mind when you make the body spray.

Witch Hazel

Similar to vegetable glycerin, witch hazel helps combine essential oils and water. If you want your scent to linger for a lot longer, this is a necessary ingredient.

DIY Body Spray

Ingredients:

 • 1/2 tablespoon unscented witch hazel
 • 1/2 tablespoon vegetable glycerin (optional)
 • 10 drops bergamot essential oil
 • 10 drops geranium essential oil
 • 5 drops ylang ylang essential oil
 • Distilled water

Instructions:

 • Pour the witch hazel, vegetable glycerin (optional), and the essential oils into the amber glass spray bottle.
 • Fill the rest of the spray bottle with distilled water, attach the nozzle, shake well, and spray when ready.

Some people have naturally dry skin, so they frantically look for cleansers and moisturizers that help lock in moisture. It can be difficult to find cleansers that don’t dry your face out, which is why it is better to make your own with simple, natural ingredients. Including ingredients like vitamin E oil, raw honey, essential oils, and raw honey in your face wash can do wonders for your skin. Let’s highlight some of the key ingredients in this face wash.

Honey

Honey continues to show up in skin care products because of its beauty benefits. A 2016 research paper found that raw honey exhibited antimicrobial and wound-healing properties. Raw honey may also be great for people with acne, which affects about 50 million people a year in the United States. The antimicrobial nature of honey may make it an effective acne treatment. A separate study found that medical grade kanuka honey with a 10% glycerine combination was more effective than an antibacterial soap.

Chamomile

The Ancient Egyptians and Greeks used to apply crushed chamomile flowers to the skin to treat dryness and redness. Thousands of years later, people still incorporate chamomile into skin care products, and researchers continue to discover how chamomile can benefit the skin. Chamomile contains apigenin, a powerful antioxidant that works to lower inflammation by combating inflammation-causing chemicals. The anti-inflammatory nature of chamomile can be attributed to apigenin, chamazulene, and bisoprolol. These compounds have soothing and healing benefits that are excellent for sensitive skin.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E oil is a powerful serum that may help reduce the signs of aging. Some people use this oil as a skin-conditioning agent overnight in order for the skin to completely absorb it. Vitamin E oil can be an excellent spot treatment for acne scarring. The high antioxidant content of vitamin E works to promote blood circulation, which is why some people notice a difference in skin firmness and structure after topical application. A 2013 review found that vitamin E oil and other antioxidants can be effective treatments for delaying wrinkles.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

One study found that ylang ylang essential oil may boost self-esteem and reduce anxiety after topical application or inhalation. This is supported by other studies and anecdotal reports that had similar findings. Ylang ylang essential oil exhibits antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, so it may be effective at treating fungal infections and inflammation.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense exhibits antiseptic properties, which may be powerful enough to fight tooth decay and bad breath. For skin care, the astringent properties help protect skin cells to encourage a more youthful appearance. Frankincense essential oil may also work to reduce blemishes, shrink large pores, or help tighten up the skin. Just make sure to dilute it in a carrier oil prior to applying on the skin.

DIY Honey Tea Face Wash

Ingredients:

 • 3/4 cup chamomile tea, cooled
 • 1 tablespoon raw honey
 • 3 tablespoons Castile soap
 • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
 • 4 drops vitamin E oil
 • 8 drops frankincense essential oil
 • 8 drops ylang ylang essential oil

Instructions:

 • Add the cooled chamomile tea and honey to a small mixing bowl and whisk to thoroughly combine.
 • Pour in the Castile soap, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, and essential oils and continue to whisk until everything is mixed well. Don’t whisk too vigorously; rather, be gentle to avoid frothing the soap.
 • Pour the mixture into a foaming soap pump bottle through a funnel. Screw on the cap and use as needed.
 • Every time you want to use it, you will need to shake the bottle to re-combine the ingredients.

]]>

An estimated six million Americans suffer from panic attacks or some sort of panic disorder every year. Some people may only experience in a highly tense situation, while others experience regular episodes. Panic attacks come without warning and the symptoms can vary in intensity. How can you handle a panic attack when you first notice symptoms? This article aims to cover six powerful essential oils that can promote calm during a stressful attack

What Is A Panic Attack?

A panic attack can appear in an instant and experts characterize it as an intense fear that triggers physical reactions. This can occur whether or not real danger is present. It can be very frightening for the individual, as it can feel like they no longer have control or that they are having a heart attack. More often than not, panic attacks occur once or twice during a lifetime, but people can experience recurring attacks. Although they may not be life-threatening, panic attacks can interfere with quality of life.

Scents For Panic Attacks

Certain essential oils are beneficial for anxiety or feelings of panic. One study monitored 58 hospice patients who received hand massages once a day for one week. The massage used a blend of essential oils with a 1.5% dilution of sweet almond oil. All patients reported less pain and fewer depression symptoms, concluding aromatherapy’s benefits for pain and depression. Continue reading to learn about the best essential oils for panic attacks.

Bergamot Essential Oil

If you enjoy Early Grey tea, then you are familiar with the powerful aroma of bergamot. It’s a refreshing scent that helps to promote energy. During a panic attack, this essential oil may help you cope with the symptoms, as it works to help stabilize fearful thinking. A 2011 study found that bergamot helped relieve anxiety when combined with lavender essential oil. Bergamot essential oil may also help to promote a sense of deep relaxation.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

It’s common for panic attacks to bring about bouts of intense crying and sadness. Ylang ylang oil, which comes from the flowers of ylang ylang trees, helps to relieve tension and anxiety. It’s quite fragrant and the aroma works to combat sadness by boosting overall mood and attitude. The best way to apply it is by adding a drop or two on the inside of each wrist. Take a deep breath and let the aroma bring about a sense of calm.

Frankincense Essential Oil

People commonly use frankincense essential oil with lavender and bergamot essential oils to enhance the benefits. The aroma helps to provide a tranquil energy, promoting spiritual grounding. It’s a very common oil in aromatherapy because it can deepen meditation by quieting the mind. The theory is that it has the same effect during a panic attack, counteracting the overwhelming sensations that a person experiences.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender exhibits soothing effects that help to promote natural relaxation. Many people place a few drops of lavender essential oil under their pillow to promote better and deeper sleep. The smell of lavender works to reduce feelings of nervousness, inducing a sense of calm. People who experience symptoms of panic disorders benefit from using lavender, as it works to relieve headaches and migraines. Some people find that it can alleviate jitters and boost overall mood.

Rose Essential Oil

Not only does rose essential oil smell floral and beautiful, but it also exhibits properties that may soothe the nervous system. One study found that inhaling rose essential oil for ten minutes significantly lowered anxiety levels. The placebo group in the study performed breathing exercises, but did not experience the same relaxation that the rose oil group did. Rose oil’s scent is emotionally settling as well, working to relieve tension during a panic attack.

Vetiver Essential Oil

One of the reasons why aromatherapists prefer vetiver essential oil is because it has a natural grounding energy. It works to promote reassurance, helping to calm and stabilize the mind during trauma therapy. Vetiver essential oil helps to reduce hypersensitivity and may even relax the nervous system. It may also exhibit natural sedative properties, helping to improve sleep. For someone who experiences a panic attack, inhaling the scent of vetiver essential oil may relieve jitters and anxiety.

Nobody wants to walk by a mirror and see a flaky face that looks as dry as the arid Utah salt flats. Sadly, dry skin is par for the course during the colder fall and winter months. So what can you do to provide your skin with the moisture it needs during these times? Some people resort to special oils and high-end skin care products, but it’s much easier to use simple ingredients that nourish the skin.

That’s why we’re in love with the DIY frankincense whipped face cream in this article. There are several steps involved, but the ingredient list isn’t out of this world. You don’t need to seek out rare clay from the hinterlands of Nepal or saffron from the mountains of Brazil. Get your hands on some quality ingredients and your skin will love you forever. In fact, you’ll probably love yourself even more when you look at hydrated skin that looks like it could be in a beauty commercial. Let’s take a look at some of the standout ingredients in this cream.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang ylang has antiseptic, antispasmodic, sedative, and antidepressant properties, and it’s a popular oil in aromatherapy. The oil is extracted from the flower of the ylang ylang tree, which is popularly grown throughout Asia. When you apply the essential oil on the skin, it helps to slow the signs of aging and combat skin irritations. A few preliminary studies found that the terpenoids in ylang ylang may be viable treatment options for numerous skin disorders. Several tests on cancerous melanoma skin cells found that the terpenoid compounds inhibited growth. In a nutshell, the antioxidants in ylang ylang essential oil help protect skin cells from damage

Aloe Vera Gel

According to dermatologists, the gel from the aloe vera succulent has healing and medicinal properties. The inherent antioxidants, amino acids, and vitamins have been known to benefit skin conditions like psoriasis, cold sores, and even burns and frostbite. When it comes to dry skin, aloe vera should be one of your go-to ingredients. The high water content (aloe vera is 98% water) helps to hydrate, moisturize, and soothe dry skin. Additionally, the skin easily absorbs aloe vera gel, helping to accelerate the production and release of collagen.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Distilled from the resin of the frankincense tree, frankincense essential oil has a woody aroma that has a hint of spice. Aromatherapists typically incorporate it into calming blends because it has sedative properties that combat stress. When used topically, frankincense helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration. The astringent properties aid these processes and the nutritional content promotes the growth of new skin cells. Frankincense also works to disinfect and tighten pores, which helps to reduce inflamed skin

DIY Frankincense Whipped Face Cream

Ingredients:

 • 1/2 cup coconut oil
 • 3 tablespoons jojoba oil
 • 3/4 ounce beeswax pastilles
 • 1 cup aloe vera gel
 • 10 drops frankincense essential oil

 • Once the mixture looks like a thick, fluffy lotion, drop in the essential oils and mix for another 30 seconds.

Imagine that you just had the most hectic day. You barely made it to work on time, your coffee spilled on your jeans, and several presentations at work didn’t go as planned. The last thing you want to do is bring that negative energy from the outside world back home with you. If you can’t leave that negative energy at the door, you can help calm the mind and relax by adding stress-relieving essential oil blends to a diffuser.

How Does Aromatherapy Work?

Aromatherapy uses different scents to help improve your mood or overall health. The powerful aromas from essential oils not only help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, but they also work to reduce cravings, boost libido, or accelerate the metabolism. This works in the following way:

 • You inhale the aroma from the oil.
 • The scent acts on the hypothalamus, which is a part of the brain that influences the hormonal system.
 • Different scents influence different hormonal responses.
 • Sometimes, an essential oil mixed with a carrier oil is massaged onto the skin and the body absorbs the aromas that way.

Can Aromatherapy Reduce Stress?

The first thing to note about aromatherapy and stress is that the scents of essential oils offer relaxing or stress-relieving effects. They don’t have magical powers, so they don’t immediately zap your stress away. As you continue to inhale the aromas, you’ll start to calm down and feel more relaxed. People with high anxiety often benefit from aromatherapy because anxiety is rooted in the limbic system. This part of the brain controls emotions, and the olfactory sense (sense of smell) is the only sense that is linked to the limbic system. The scents reach the olfactory nerves, which transmit messages to the brain to release endorphins and serotonin, both of which help to establish emotional stability.

How To Do Aromatherapy At Home

Anybody can do aromatherapy and it’s very affordable. All you need is a diffuser, water, and various essential oils. Fill a diffuser with water. The amount of water you use will depend on the size of the diffuser. Mix 10-12 drops of essential oils into the diffuser.

Great Diffuser Blends To Relieve Stress

Bergamot, Geranium, And Lavender

Lavender helps put the body in a more relaxed state, while geranium helps you deal with stressful or anxious feelings. Bergamot not only works to lift your spirits, but it also helps relieve nervous tension. Add four drops of geranium essential oil, four drops of bergamot essential oil, and two drops of lavender essential oil in a diffuser. You can adjust the amount according to your diffuser’s instructions.

Lavender, Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, And Marjoram

The scent of clary sage works to alleviate stress and induce feelings of relaxation. One study even found that inhaling the scent of clary sage essential oil helped reduce blood pressure. Some people refer to marjoram essential oil as the herb of happiness, offering emotional benefits. Both ylang ylang and lavender essential oils work to reduce stress and anxiety. Combine three drops of lavender essential oil, two drops of clary sage essential oil, and one drop each of ylang ylang and marjoram essential oil in a diffuser. You can adjust the amount according to your diffuser’s instructions.

Grapefruit, Juniper Berry, And Rosemary

There’s something about citrus that seems to lift your spirits, helping the mind release negativity and stress. According to several research studies, levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, drop when you inhale rosemary essential oil’s aroma. The refreshing, clean aroma of juniper berry rounds out this powerful trio. Traditionally, many cultures used juniper berry to promote feelings of relaxation. Add five drops of grapefruit essential oil, three drops of juniper berry essential oil, and two drops of rosemary essential oil to your diffuser. You can adjust the amount according to your diffuser’s instructions.

Cedarwood, Frankincense, And Lavender

If stress is getting in the way of a healthy sleep cycle, let this blend of essential oils come to your rescue. Frankincense helps counteract the effects of stress hormones, and the powerful antioxidants help fight oxidative stress. Cedarwood oil is beneficial for those who have nervous energy. Studies show that cedrol, the compound in cedarwood oil, works to mildly sedate the body, and the woodsy scent has a calming effect on the nervous system. Add four drops of frankincense essential oil, four drops of lavender essential oil, and two drops of cedarwood essential oil to your diffuser. You can adjust the amount according to your diffuser’s instructions.

The post Homemade Sleep Balm To Help You Fall Asleep appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Blue light exposure, excess stress hormones, insomnia, and anxiety are some of the most common reasons that people cannot fall asleep. So what do they do? Too often do people resort to sleeping medications, alcohol, or watching Netflix to help fall asleep more easily. Well, it’s time to stop this nonsense and promote a more restful night of sleep with a homemade sleep balm.

How Scents Affect The Mind & Body

A smell can evoke a thought or feeling. Perhaps a flower reminds you of the perfume your grandmother used to wear, or fresh cut grass takes you back to mowing the lawn with your father as a child. Our sense of smell is linked to the memory and emotion centers in the brain. The cells in our noses send messengers to the brain via the olfactory nerve, and the brain interprets this information, associating it with images, experiences, memories, etc.

The Practice Of Aromatherapy

The use of essential oils for medicinal purposes goes back to the ancient times of the Egyptians, Romans, and Chinese. Aromatherapy is merely the modern term for using scents to promote healing. Many of these scents have been scientifically proven to relieve stress, reduce pain, regulate mood, and even promote sleep. A large body of research indicated that essential oils can improve the quality of sleep in many adults who suffer from irregular sleep schedules or insomnia.

For this article, we are going to focus on the essential oils that are used in the homemade sleep balm, highlighting how they improve sleep.

Ylang Ylang

The cananga tree, which produces ylang ylang flowers, is native to Indonesia, and the essential oil has been known to have a sedative effect on the body. Historically, people have used ylang ylang to help reduce hypertension, but it has been incorporated into aromatherapy practices for its ability to reduce anxiety and help people fall asleep faster. The floral scent is also quite relaxing.

Lavender

This is the most popular essential oil for sleep or relaxation because it works to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, and calm the mind. It has been proven to be very effective for helping insomnia patients fall asleep, often relieving physical discomfort and racing thoughts. Studies have shown that postpartum mothers who are still nursing benefit from inhaling lavender essential oil for a natural sleep aid. For children who need assistance relaxing at bedtime, place a couple drops of lavender essential oil under their pillows to encourage sounder sleep through the night.

Marjoram Oil

The anesthetic and tranquil properties of marjoram essential oil have been used to help fight feelings of depression and anxiety. Studies have also found that this oil helps people with insomnia sleep more soundly through the night, especially after mixing it into a warm bath about one to two hours before bed. Men with insomnia often prefer to use marjoram essential as a sleep aid because it has the most masculine aroma.

Homemade Sleep Balm

Note that this recipe makes about four ounces of sleep balm, so you may want to get four one-ounce tins for storage.

Ingredients:

 • 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
 • 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
 • 2 tablespoons organic virgin coconut oil
 • 30 drops lavender essential oil
 • 30 drops ylang ylang essential oil
 • 20 drops sweet marjoram essential oil
 • small metal tins or glass jars

Instructions:

 • Bring a small saucepan that is halfway filled with water to a boil. Turn the heat down low and maintain a low simmer.
 • Place a pint size Mason jar in the simmering water and add the beeswax pellets, jojoba oil, and coconut oil. Use a wooden stick to mix everything together until thoroughly melted.
 • Since high heat can reduce the effectiveness of essential oils, turn the heat off and carefully remove the Mason jar from the saucepan. Stir in the essential oils and then carefully pour the mixture into the small metal tins or glass jars.
 • Allow the mixture to cool for about 30 minutes to an hour. Screw on the lids and store these in a cool, dry place. These balms will stay fresh for about one year.

How To Use

After an evening rinse, rub the balm on your temples, wrists, under your nose, stomach, soles of your feet, or lips. You can’t overdose on this sleep balm, so you can be liberal with your application on the stomach, soles of your feet, and wrists. Go easy under the nose because the scents can be intense at first. We hope this helps you sleep better.

It seems that the world of DIY natural beauty products is expanding by the day. When you consider all of the skin-healing benefits that natural ingredients have to offer, it makes sense to incorporate them into your beauty routine, especially if your skin is sensitive to the chemicals in commercial beauty products.

When it comes to washing your face, the idea is to cleanse your pores of impurities and built-up bacteria, not to put chemicals on the skin. Most face washes or cleansers contain ingredients that can dry out the pores, making your face more prone to dryness, especially in the colder months. Instead of drying out your skin, hydrate it with the DIY face wash in this article.

Raw Unfiltered Honey

The first step is to purchase the right honey to benefit the skin, and that is raw unfiltered honey. Working to balance the bacteria on the skin, raw honey is an excellent skin care ingredient for those who struggle with acne. According to several studies, raw honey has exfoliating properties that work to remove dead skin cells and encourage the production of healthier, brighter skin. Honey has also been used as a spot treatment to reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

The antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties of ylang ylang essential oil make it an effective ingredient to clear up acne and improve the overall appearance of the skin. It is common to blend this oil into natural body washes to nourish the skin. Some people enjoy ylang ylang because of its ability to increase thickness and luster of hair. It works best when combined with coconut oil for hair health.

Lavender

People who have been experiencing dry skin will greatly benefit from using lavender in this face wash. Lavender works to balance the skin’s natural moisture barrier, ensuring that is not too oily or dry. Dry skin can produce excess sebum to compensate for the lack of moisture, but this results in clogged pores or acne. Lavender helps to kill bacteria, penetrate the pores, and moisturize the skin.

Ingredients:

 • 1 cup distilled water
 • 2 tablespoons dried lavender
 • 1/3 cup castile soap
 • 1 tablespoon unrefined coconut oil
 • 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered honey
 • 15 drops ylang ylang essential oil

Instructions:

 • Combine the water and lavender in a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Continue a simmer for about 5-10 minutes or until it is reduced to half. Set aside and allow it to cool
 • Add the castile soap, coconut oil, and honey to a small glass container.
 • Strain the lavender flowers from the water and then add it to the glass container with the other ingredients. Add the essential oil and shake well.
 • Store in a cool dry place and shake before use.
