Are your teeth looking a little longer these days? If so, you may need to change some lifestyle habits because your gums may be receding. Receding gums can increase your risk for sensitivity, cavities, and tooth loss. Although gum recession is a gradual problem, you don’t want to let it get out of hand.

What Are Receding Gums?

Gum recession is a form of gum disease that occurs when the gum tissue pulls away from the teeth. If left untreated, the gums can recede so much so that the roots of the teeth become exposed. That can cause irritation when brushing, eating, or drinking liquids at varying temperatures.

Gum recession is most common in people over the age of 65, but it can affect people of all ages. You are more likely to develop receding gums if you had braces or other orthodontic treatment, periodontal disease, or use chewing tobacco. Interestingly, brushing your teeth excessively or having a lip or tongue piercing also increases your risk of receding gums. About 88% of people over the age of 65 have gum recession on one or more teeth, and you can learn about more causes below.

You Have Plaque Or Tartar Buildup

If you don’t brush and floss regularly, your gums can recede. Dentists explain that poor dental hygiene can cause plaque (a film from bacteria and food) and tartar (hardened plaque that causes tooth decay) to build up along the gum lining. Not only can plaque and tartar inflame the gums, but they can also make them more susceptible to recession. If you want to prevent plaque buildup, brush your teeth twice daily for at least two minutes at a time. Floss once a day and consider using an antibacterial mouthwash to encourage optimal oral health.

You Grind Your Teeth

Repeatedly grinding your teeth can put stress on your gums, which can cause inflammation and swelling. Over time, that inflammation can cause gums to recede. Bruxism, the technical term for teeth grinding, can happen to anyone, but it typically results from unmanaged anxiety. Most teeth grinders don’t realize that they do it because they usually grind while asleep. That’s why you may wake up with tooth sensitivity or tight jaw muscles. If you have tooth grinding symptoms, consider talking with your dentist about it. You may need to wear a mouthguard at night or practice relaxation techniques to manage stress.

You Smoke Or Use Tobacco

Smoking causes discoloration of your teeth, but it also affects your gums, especially if you dip (use chewing tobacco). Tobacco reduces immune function, making it more difficult for your gums to fight off infection. That can lead to gum inflammation and gum recession, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Obviously, the best way to protect your mouth from this is to stop smoking or using chewing tobacco. There are many methods that can help you stop smoking, but if you do use tobacco, please continue to brush and floss regularly. Don’t forget to get regular cleanings from the dentist as well.

Your Tongue Or Lip Piercing Is To Blame

This sounds strange, but an oral piercing can actually increase the risk of gum recession over time. The piercing can cause irritation or inflammation that causes the gums to recede. Oral piercings may also cause an injury that damages the teeth or gum tissue. Damaged gum tissue can lead to inflammation and recession. If you have an oral piercing, you have to be extra attentive with your oral care. In addition to brushing and flossing, follow oral piercing cleaning instructions to reduce the risk of infection or gum recession.

You Brush Too Hard

Brushing regularly is a must for optimal oral health, but being overzealous with your brushing can do more harm than good. Aggressive brushing can irritate gum tissue, which causes inflammation that can lead to gum recession over time. If you have sensitive gums, consider getting a soft- or medium-bristle toothbrush to be more gentle on your gums. Always brush your teeth twice per day, but remember to be gentle on your teeth. Use gentle, circular motions with and consider holding your toothbrush differently to reduce intensity. Try to hold the brush with only your thumb, index, and middle fingers. Not only does this give you less leverage, but it may also remind you to go easier on your gums.

If you have to take vitamins, medications, or supplements, the last thing you want to do is gag or choke during the process. “Pill dysphagia,” or trouble swallowing pills, is very common. What’s interesting is that people who have this difficulty don’t struggle to swallow solid foods or liquids. If you are one of the many people who have difficulty swallowing pills, you’ll want to learn about the different strategies in this article.

For some people, large “horse” pills are the primary difficulty. For others, swallowing any little pill or capsule can seem like an impossible feat. Swallowing a pill is not as easy as it looks! The nerves in your mouth, throat, and esophagus work in unison to move food, liquids, and pills into the digestive tract. Typically, you don’t have to think about this teamwork when you swallow, but you become aware of all that goes into swallowing when pills or supplements enter the equation. The more you think about it, the more difficult it is. Fortunately, there are alternative strategies that may make swallowing pills a whole lot easier.

Hydrate Your Throat

When your throat is dry, it is much more difficult for a pill to go down smoothly. Ideally, you want to lubricate your throat by drinking a glass of water before attempting to swallow your pill(s). Then, you drink more water when it comes time to actually take your pill/supplement. Some manufacturers make pill swallowing sprays, which are over-the-counter products that make the throat a bit more slippery. These sprays often contain food-based ingredients that are generally safe, according to a July 2018 study. Your average glass of water works just as well, though.

Consider Mixing The Pill With Food

Depending on the supplement, medication, or pill that you need to take, mixing it with food may be your best bet. You can crush a pill into yogurt, applesauce, or pudding, making the medicine go down a lot smoother. If you want to do that with medication or vitamins, you may want to consult your pharmacist or doctor to see if that is a viable option. The reason for this is that crushing up a drug, for example, can alter the way it works, especially in regards to extended-release pills. Additionally, there are certain food-drug interactions that you want to be aware of, as they may affect your meds. If you have a capsule like one of the many herbal supplements from Dherbs, you may be able to open the capsule and empty the contents into a smoothie or juice.

Change Your Posture

It is completely normal to tilt your head back when you have to swallow vitamins or pills. For some people, this strategy helps the pill go down easier, while others increase their risk for gagging or choking by doing so. You can actually get better results when you lean forward, according to the Patient Preference and Adherence review. When you have a pill in your mouth and you lean forward, the pill will float toward the top of your mouth. When you swallow, the pill  actually goes down first. Your airway widens when you lean forward, making it easier for the pill to go down the hatch. Stand or sit up straight, place the pill on your tongue, and take a medium sip of water. Bend your head forward a little and, with your chin tilted toward your chest, swallow the water and pill together.

Use A Pop Bottle

Designed by German researchers, the pop bottle method was intended to help people swallow dense tablets. If you want to swallow capsules, this method will not work well because they have air inside them, and air weighs less than water. If you want to swallow pills the “pop bottle” way, you need a full water bottle with a small opening, like a plastic bottle. Place the pill on your tongue and bring the bottle to your mouth, closing your lips around the opening. Use the pressure of the water bottle’s narrow opening to essentially force water down your throat as you swallow. This technique can make it much easier to swallow pills. In fact, a small study found that it eased pill-swallowing for 60% of the participants.

Try A Pill-Swallowing Cup

There are special pill-swallowing cups and straws available at many pharmacies. These cups have a special top that extends toward the back of your throat. Although there isn’t a lot of clinical research published about pill cups, there are a lot of positive anecdotal accounts. They are made for people with dysphagia, as they have an increased risk of choking.

You wake in the morning from a deep slumber and the first thought that runs through your mind is: How bad does my breath smell? If you sleep next to a partner, you may quickly cover your mouth before speaking to them. It’s imperative to shield them from that powerful, unpleasant aroma, unless they are into that sort of thing.

Everyone has morning breath to a certain degree, according to periodontists. While you sleep, the mouth dries out and odor-producing bacteria proliferate. The mouth dries out because the normal saliva flow decreases when you are asleep. If you snore or breathe through your mouth while sleeping, there’s a higher chance of having bad breath, when compared to those who breathe through their noses. No matter how you breathe when you sleep, the mouth is prone to dryness and bacterial growth.

The lack of saliva flow may not seem like an issue, but it is. Saliva works to clear out food particles that fuel odor-producing bacteria in the mouth. When there is less saliva in the mouth, the bacteria capitalize. That’s why mouth dryness is the leading cause of bad breath, and more specifically morning breath.

Causes Of Bad Breath

Mouth dryness isn’t the only culprit. There are other causes that contribute to bad breath, or halitosis, but it depends on the person. Certain medications may increase mouth dryness over night, which worsens bad breath. Older people who take more medications tend to experience worse breath upon waking up in the morning.

It’s also common for cigarette smokers to have worse breath in the morning. Not only does smoking dry up saliva, but it also increases the temperature of the mouth. This combination makes the mouth the perfect breeding ground for bacteria that make your breath smell foul. If that isn’t on your list of reasons to quit smoking, it should be.

Lastly, it’s very possible for allergies to cause bad breath. People with seasonal allergies commonly experience postnasal drip, which involves mucus dripping down the back of the throat. This mucus becomes a food source for bacteria. Postnasal drip that gets infected will only increase the presence of odor-causing bacteria in the mouth.

Can You Treat Bad Breath?

There are ways to reduce the effects of morning breath, one of the primary of which is practicing proper oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing before bed helps to get rid of pockets of food that are magnets for bacteria. It’s also beneficial to clean the tongue in the morning to remove any bacteria that accumulate overnight. In order to clean the tongue properly, you’ll need to invest in a tongue scraper, a toothbrush with soft bristles, or even a spoon.

If the tongue is pink and shiny, it is not harboring a lot of bacteria. If you notice a white film on the tongue, however, it does have bacteria and you probably have bad breath. Want confirmation of that odor? Lick your clean wrist, allow it to dry, and then smell it. You can get rid of the white film by using a tongue scraper or spoon, or simply brushing the tongue with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

This may be a more unconventional approach, but gargling with baking soda before bed may reduce the likelihood of foul morning breath. Dissolve one teaspoon of baking soda in one cup of water and gargle it for one minute. This is completely safe and helps establish and alkaline environment in the mouth, which helps to kill bacteria.

If you snore when you sleep, you belong to the nearly 50% of American adults with the same problem. Air flows through your throat when you breathe in your sleep, causing relaxed tissues to vibrate and cause irritating, snoring noises. It’s an irritating problem for people who have to sleep in the general vicinity, not necessarily the snorer. Aside from the embarrassment factor, snoring can also indicate a more serious health condition.

Snoring can either be benign or more serious. You may find that you can stop snoring if you experiment with the following remedies. In some cases, however, it may be necessary for you to see a doctor to address an underlying condition.

Sleep On Your Side

It’s quite common for back sleepers to snore. When you lay on your back, it’s easy to misalign the neck with the rest of the body, leading to a blockage of air movement and causing snoring. When you sleep on your side, it’s very uncommon to snore because air flows more easily in this position. You can wedge a pillow between your knees to get more comfortable if side sleeping is unnatural.

Avoid Certain Foods

The foods you eat before bed may dictate whether you snore or not. Many doctors say that eating dairy products or spicy foods before bed increases the chance of snoring. If you’re sensitive to lactose, avoid dairy before bed to minimize or stop snoring at night. Spicy foods tend to have an inflammatory effect on the throat, which also contributes to snoring.

Get To A Healthier Weight

If you are overweight or obese, losing weight is a great first step to better overall health. Overweight or obese people have a greater risk of snoring because of the amount of tissue in the throat that may cause snoring. Additionally, overweight or obese people have a higher risk of sleep apnea, which also leads to snoring. You can promote weight loss by exercising every day for at least 30 minutes. In addition to exercise, you also need to reform your diet and focus on portion control. Consider speaking with a nutritionist for this reason.

Quit Smoking And Drinking

In addition to worsening overall health, alcohol and cigarettes also increase the risk of snoring. Smoking irritates the airways and can make snoring worse. Alcohol, on the other hand, relaxes the throat muscles, making them more prone to vibration. If you drink alcohol at night, sleep experts say to stop consuming it at least two hours before bedtime to reduce the risk of snoring.

Avoid Sedatives

Sleeping pills or other sedative medications can induce a night of long, deep sleep, which is attractive to may people with sleep troubles. Similar to alcohol, sleeping pills have a relaxing effect on the throat muscles, which can cause snoring. There are other healthy ways to relax the body and promote better sleep. Click here to learn more.

Use Nasal Strips

Stick-on nasal strips help to elevate the bridge of the nose, which increases the space in the nasal passage. This is why it’s common to use nasal strips while experiencing a runny or stuffy nose. Breathing becomes easier and more effective, which eliminates or reduces snoring. If you don’t want to use nasal strips, you can try to experiment with a nasal dilator. This is a stiffened adhesive strip that you apply on top of the nose across the nostrils. It can decrease airflow resistance, which makes it easier to breathe

Mandibular Advancement Device

If a person’s tongue partially blocks the back of the throat during sleep, it’s common to snore. A mandibular advancement device is something that you wear in the mouth, and it helps to bring the tongue forward to create more space in the throat to reduce snoring.

]]>

Common in cold weather, chapped lips are usually harmless, but feel awful and painful. Truly, they are annoying and leave chapped lip sufferers with a burning question: What is causing lips to chap? Although winter may be to blame in certain cases, it’s not always the culprit. More often than not, there are a few different problems that cause lips to appear dry, flakey, or chapped.

The skin on the lips requires extra care because it is highly sensitive. Not only does it require extra care, but also the right kind of care. The wrong kind of care may irritate the skin even more and cause more chapping. In fact, it may surprise you to learn about the following causes of chapped lips. You may do these habits unconsciously, or don’t even realize that lifestyle habits and certain foods are at the root of the problem.

Dehydration

One of the hallmark symptoms of dehydration is chapped lips. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says skin begins to dry when the body lacks water, and this includes skin on the lips. Other common signs of dehydration include dark yellow urine, headaches, constipation, thirst, and sluggishness. Make sure to drink water if you notice any of those symptoms alongside chapped lips.

Licking Your Lips

It’s a weird phrase, we know, but it’s a common reason why people experience chapped lips. Saliva from the tongue strips moisture from the skin on your lips, causing them to dry out. Dermatologists claim that saliva contains enzymes that are designed to digest food, not moisturize the lips. Try to be as conscious as possible about licking your lips to avoid chapping. If you are licking your lips, locate some lip balm or natural oils to help lock moisture into the skin. You may find that beeswax-based lip balms are best because beeswax has emollient properties that protect the skin barrier function.

Weather Conditions

More often than not, environmental exposures lead to irritation that cause lips to chap. Licking lips, dry or cold weather, sun damage, and eating spicy foods can all cause chapped lips. Dry winter air can deplete the moisture from your lips, which leaves them parched. Some people apply oils or lip balms to help replenish the moisture, but failure to do so can increase dryness. The more dry your lips are, the more prone they are to cracking and peeling. If you live in an area where weather is typically dry, make sure to have lip balms or oils at the ready!

Allergies To Certain Products

Be it your new lipstick or toothpaste, it’s possible for certain products to irritate your lips. Many people have an allergic reaction to propyl gallate in lipstick. If you started using a new lipstick and experience chapped lips, propyl gallate may be to blame. When it comes to toothpaste, guaiazulene or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) may cause your lips to chap. These ingredients can easily case skin irritation, so check your toothpaste ingredients if you experience chapped lips after integrating a new brand into your oral care routine.

Drinking Too Much Alcohol

Drinking alcohol doesn’t directly make your lips chapped, but drinking alcohol in excess contributes to dehydration. As mentioned earlier in this article, dehydration saps your lips of moisture. If you notice that your lips are dry and flakey after a night of drinking wine by the fireplace, consider replenishing the body with fluids as quickly as you can.

Eating Too Many Citrus Fruits

Although vitamin C is beneficial for the skin, eating too many citrus fruits can cause dryness around the mouth. It’s common for grapefruit, oranges, and tangerines to cause cracking or chapping. And if your lips are cracked, the citric acid will only irritate the dryness. Cut back on citrus fruits and drinks to see if your lips improve. You may benefit from rubbing aloe vera on the lips to accelerate the repair of cuts or chapping.

It’s standard procedure for a doctor to ask you to open your mouth and stick out your tongue at your annual physical. You may not think anything of it, but most physicians go through a checklist upon inspecting a patient’s tongue. A healthy tongue has a pinkish color, and any other discolorations or textures can potentially indicate an underlying health condition.

What if you could correct your overall health by simply examining your own tongue? Not only would it save you the hassle of going to your doctor’s office, but it could also help you address a problem before it progresses into something worse. Learning to read your tongue can help you know if you are sufficiently hydrated, suffering from diabetes, deficient in vitamins, or even dealing with an autoimmune disease. You’ll find the following tongue appearances helpful in your quest to managing your overall health.

White Coating

A white tongue or a tongue with white and pasty patches can be the result of a tongue infection, but it can also indicate a bacterial overgrowth, like candida. If it is a tongue infection, brush your tongue for a week or two to see if it goes away. If it doesn’t go away, it is most likely an overgrowth of yeast, which often causes oral thrush.

Geographic Tongue

The reason it is referred to as a geographic tongue is because the tongue appears map-like. You will most likely see smooth, red patches that have slightly raised borders, almost like little islands on the tongue. Geographic tongue is not caused by infection or cancer, and it affects about one to three percent of people. The cause is unknown and it tends to affect middle-aged or older adults.

Black And Hairy Tongue

It can be quite alarming to look at your tongue and see that it looks black or hairy-like. The tongue isn’t hairy, by the way; it just appears that way. The cause is typically benign. In fact, it is often associated with antibiotic use, cancer therapies, yeast infection, diabetes, or poor oral hygiene. This also occurs when the cells on the tongue grow faster than the body can shed them. It will most likely go away on its own.

Severely Dry Mouth

People who take diuretics, allergy medications, or blood pressure medication can suffer from an uncomfortable cracked tongue. If you must continue to take medication, it is imperative to stay sufficiently hydrated, avoid caffeine, and possibly brush with special toothpastes like Biotene for extreme cases.

Sore Spots

If you have ulcers or canker sores in the mouth, it is possible for them to creep up onto the tongue. Some people are predisposed to develop sore spots, while others never get them. Sore spots can often coincide with a cold, fever, or after eating a lot of citrus fruits. If a canker sore is the culprit, sore spots will disappear in about 7-10 days. You should consult your doctor if sore spots last longer than two to four weeks.

Redness

A rosy red tongue can often be caused by a sore throat, or strep throat in rare occasions. If strep throat is the culprit, you will most likely need to take antibiotics to remedy the issue. When the tongue is red and you don’t have a sore throat or fever, it could indicate a nutrient deficiency in B12, iron, or folate. You can get blood work done to determine this and plan how to up your nutrient intake from there.

Webbed Or Striped Look

When the immune system attacks cells in the mouth, it is possible for the tongue to appear webbed or striped. For some reason, middle-aged women are most susceptible to this. If you don’t experience any pain, a doctor may not need to treat it; rather, he/she will monitor symptoms. Catch it early because you don’t want to develop oral cancer in those areas.

]]>

The word “detox” is a buzzword in the health and wellness world. People discover strange programs that require them to drink odd concoctions that claim to completely detox specific organs. Those programs can be hard to maintain, yet people try to complete them. With New Year’s resolutions in full swing, we would like to bring up the topic of cleansing and how you can identify the signs that your body needs to cleanse.

The New Year is the perfect time to cleanse because you just put your body through holiday stress, excessive eating, and heavy drinking. Your liver, kidneys, immune system, and everything else in the body have been overworked. To avoid toxin accumulation and the development of health complications, it is best to hit the reset button and rid the body of any impurities. It’s time for a tune-up.

Note: You can’t get rid of junk if you keep supplying the body with more junk!

The body has the ability to naturally cleanse itself, but it cannot do this efficiently if there is an overabundance of toxins in the system. When there are too many toxins in the body, organs and systems begin to function poorly. It is quite common for people to misinterpret the signals that their bodies give them when they are in need of cleansing. Perhaps you brush off a skin irritation or ignore frequent headaches. Look at the list below and if you have experienced several of these symptoms over the past few months, it’s time to take part in the Full Body Cleanse.

Skin Issues

A common sign of too many toxins in the body is skin complications, including dry skin, rashes, itchy patches, or breakouts. Skin issues can chisel away at your self-esteem, which is why it is best to address the problem, as opposed to applying chemical creams that only mask the issue. Toxins in the blood commonly cause skin issues, but gastrointestinal troubles or poor immune function can be the culprits as well.

Frequent Headaches

If you have a toxic liver, you may experience frequent headaches. The pain is commonly around the temples or back of your head, and they are often accompanied by stomach pain or nausea, differentiating them from regular tension headaches. Too many toxins in the body prevent the liver from sending energy to the brain, ultimately aggravating the central nervous system and causing us pain as a result.

Constant Fatigue

Feeling tired after consecutive busy days or late nights can induce fatigue, but consistently feeling unmotivated or requiring caffeine to move is a completely separate issue. This may be caused by insufficient sleep, or the quality of your sleep may be poor. Constant fatigue can indicate that there are too many chemicals or toxins in the body, and the body is working overtime to eliminate them. This is typically the number one symptom people ignore, but they put up with it anyway. Cleanse for better energy!

Abdominal Bloating or Gas

If toxins fail to leave the body, they can remain in the intestines or stomach and cause cramps, pains, gas, or bloating. Bloating or gas is an indication that the microbiome has more bad bacteria than beneficial bacteria. An excess amount of bad bacteria can also lead to slowed digestion, slowed metabolism, and inflammation.

Bad Breath or Yellowish Coating on Your Tongue

One or both of these symptoms means that you have too many toxins in your system. While bacteria live inside the mouth, there aren’t too many strains that cause yellowish or white matter to appear on the tongue. This coating can contribute to bad breath and it is commonly linked to poor intestinal health or a poorly functioning liver. People who eat a lot of sugar, processed foods, unhealthy fats, and alcohol can cause these bacteria to build up.

Pay attention to your body because it tells you a lot about your health. You just have know the signs and take action when necessary.

Even though we may not know the exact functions of our internal organs, they keep us alive. What happens if they are not functioning at optimum levels? Well, chances are that symptoms, which can be unpleasant, will arise and cause discomfort or inhibit normal life. If there was a quick and easy way to check the health of your internal organs without going to the doctor, would you do it?

Lucky for you, there is a one-minute trick you can use to determine your organ health. You can use this trick to check the health of your respiratory system, metabolism, kidneys, hormones, and intestines. Here are the items you’ll need:

  • 1 metal spoon
  • 1 plastic bag
  • Your mouth
  • 1 minute of your time

Sometimes we are unaware that things aren’t functioning properly. Depending on how we were brought up or our interpretation of what “healthy” means, we may live with symptoms that we don’t realize are direct results of poor organ function. This is why we always recommend taking part in the Dherbs Full Body Cleanse to help naturally rid the body of toxins by cleansing the body’s organs and systems.

To find out whether or not your insides are healthy, take the metal spoon and scrape the back of your tongue to collect a decent amount of saliva. Carefully remove the spoon, place it in a plastic bag, and put the bag under a light (the stronger the better) for one minute. After the minute is over, take a look at the spoon. If the spoon is clean, consider yourself a healthy individual. Now smell the spoon. If you only smell saliva then you are good to go, but keep reading if it doesn’t.

After removing the spoon from the light, take note of the colors:

  • Orange may indicate kidney problems.
  • Purple may mean you have high cholesterol, poor circulation, or bronchitis.
  • White indicates a probable respiratory infection.
  • Thick yellow or white may mean that you have a thyroid problem or mouth issue.

Remember how we said to smell the spoon as well? A foul odor may just mean that you have bad breath, but it could also indicate one of the following:

  • Sweet smell may mean that you have high blood sugar or diabetes.
  • An ammonia smell could indicate a problem with your kidneys
  • Other smells could be linked to poor gastrointestinal health or lung problems.

Know this: the tongue is a very informative source when it comes to your health. Sure, a metal spoon may not be as concrete as a blood test, but this little trick can give you an insight to the health of your internal organs. Seeing these results, however, may make you think whether or not you’ve been experiencing discomfort or health symptoms associated with certain organs.

There is always a natural remedy for helping your body. It falls on us to listen to our bodies to find out what they need. If we listen, we have a better chance of noticing symptoms that may be negatively affecting optimal health. Use this test to listen to your body; it can tell you what it needs.

Bad breath is a common, and embarrassing problem for many people. Also known as halitosis, or skunk breath, chronic bad breath cannot be addressed only with chewing gum; rather, it must be addressed through the root of the problem, your digestive system. Chronic bad breath is merely a side effect of a separate, deeper problem. While brushing your teeth and flossing regularly can provide a temporary remedy, treatment for halitosis begins with the foods and drinks you choose.

Causes and Risk Factors

Consuming foods that are highly processed and full of additives can affect your breath. A diet full of meat, dairy, refined sugars, and refined grains not only can directly cause halitosis, but also impact your colon and GI tract, which further affects your breath; foods are absorbed into your bloodstream and then transferred to the lungs, causing bad breath. This is why choosing acidic foods and drinks (i.e. coffee) makes you more likely to have halitosis. Acid-forming foods promote bacterial growth and gut infections that can cause bad breath.

When there is an imbalance of good and bad bacteria (as a result of food, even cosmetics), yeast and candida are more likely to cultivate and burden your body. Toxins accumulation of chemicals, bad bacteria, and waste that can trigger halitosis.

The decreased flow of saliva in your mouth can also affect your breath. The production of saliva is a critical part of the digestive process in order to help cleanse the mouth and rinse away food particles, but if your colon and digestive tract is full of toxins, your body can not produce saliva at the rate you want it to. As such, odor-causing food particles and bacteria can accumulate in your mouth, causing bad breath.

But in attempting to mask and fight halitosis, many people are causing harm to themselves with the use of mouthwash. Many commercially sold mouthwashes contain alcohol, which has been shown to potentially cause throat cancer. Commercial mouthwashes may contain petroleum-based dyes and artificial sweeteners that may have a multitude of negative consequences.

In addition, saliva contains natural enzymes that encourage the production of antibodies that get rid of bad bacteria. However, using chemical-laced oral hygiene products eliminate those enzymes.

Eradicating Halitosis

Switch to a mostly raw foods and vegan-vegetarian diet consisting mainly of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables. Green, cruciferous vegetables are full of fiber that aid in the detoxification process and the balance of your digestive system. Also, foods high in zinc, such as pumpkin seeds, can be antimicrobial.

Three natural breath fresheners are:

  • Parsley
  • Cilantro
  • Mint

Chlorophyll-rich greens can help eradicate halitosis. Such greens include:

Aromatic, herbal teas with warming herbs can help your digestive function. Such herbs include:

  • Ginger
  • Turmeric
  • Fennel
  • Black Pepper

Cleansing the colon and your other eliminative channels can also help treat halitosis.  Good colon-cleansing herbs that will evacuate the bowels of waste and detoxify your system include:

Colonics and enemas are also great methods and procedures for cleansing the colon and rectum. Colonics can be performed every three to six months and enemas can be performed on a more regular basis, i.e. weekly or bi-weekly.

While poor dental hygiene that may cause gum disease, tooth decay, and plaque can contribute to halitosis, your gut is more often than not, the root cause. Nevertheless, brush your tongue with an all-natural toothpaste and floss between your teeth, as your tongue and tooth gaps can harbor excess bacteria.

Chewing on certain sticks and twigs, such as MISWAK, LICORICE, and NEEM can provide temporary relief for halitosis. These sticks and twigs are antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiviral, and antibiotic.

PEELU tooth fibers (sold at health food stores) can help to remove plaque from the teeth (enamel). Use of these fibers may also help to freshen the breath and kill negative (or harmful) bacteria in the mouth.

The herbs GOLDENSEAL, MYRRH, and BAYBERRY can also help to remove plaque, kill negative bacteria, help heal oral herpes and mouth sores (which can be quite painful), and help gum bleeding diseases. Chewing on raw pieces of CARDAMOM, CLOVE, CINNAMON and/or NUTMEG can help freshen the breath and fight oral bacterial conditions.

Candia albicans, also known as ‘candidiasis’ and ‘candida vaginitis‘ is a type of yeast infection. It inhibits the mucous membranes of genital tract (especially the female vagina), intestines, mouth (called ‘thrush’), throat and esophagus.

Systemic yeast (infection) is when the blood contains yeast and thus carries the yeast throughout the body. This is the form of yeast that goes undetected in many people. Normally the micro-organistic fungus lives in a healthy balance with other flora or bacteria in the body, but certain conditions such as acidosis disrupt the balance and cause the fungus to multiply.

Most candida problems occur with women in the vagina. When the vagina is infected by yeast, the result is called ‘vaginitis.’

Symptoms and Causes

Vaginitis causes inflammation of the mucous membranes of the vagina and is characterized by a large, white, thick, cheesy discharge and excruciating itching and burning.

The greatest culprit in causing candida or yeast infection is antibiotic medication prescribed by doctors. Antibiotics weaken the immune (defense) system and destroy ‘friendly’ or ‘beneficial’ bacteria that normally keep candida under control in the body.

All vaginal orders are First chakra disorders. The First chakra deals with ‘grounding.’ If you are not firmly grounded in your sexual belief system and orientation, you create an imbalance in your sexual reproductive system energy in general and your vaginal energy in particular.

Effects of Yeast Infections

Because vaginal disorders impede sexual activity, it is the body’s way of making a women stop or pause temporarily so as to concentrate on her mind, body, and emotions so as to address problems.

Males can also contract yeast infections. Candida infection in males manifests as jock itch or athlete’s foot.

Babies too also suffer from yeast infection, commonly oral thrush, white sores that form on the tongue and gums and also inside the cheeks.

Oral thrush can also manifest on the baby’s buttocks, manifesting as diaper rash.

Natural Alternatives

Natural alternatives to pharmaceutical grade antibiotic medication include the following herbs:

Antifungal herbs include:

Bee propolis is also antifungal in nature, although it’s not vegan.

Essential oils (plant blood) that are antifungal in nature include:

Add a few drops (1-3 drops) of these oils to your bath water.

Dietary Intervention

A healthy diet needs to be adapted, preferably vegan and/or raw foods (or a combination of both). Meat, dairy products, processed and refined so-called foods must go.

Yeast thrives in sugar. Eliminate processed and refined sugar from the diet and it’s harder for yeast to take hold. Herbs that can help you to kick the sugar habit include:

Lifestyle changes need to be made. You must adapt a healthier lifestyle. Become mobile (yoga, tai chi, qi chong, pilates, swimming, etc.). Wear loose fit clothing so your body can breathe. Embrace a positive, healthy, and loving mindset. All negative emotions and feelings (anger, envy, bitterness, jealousy, hatred, etc.) must be released and transmuted into positive energy.

Abstain from sex, including oral sex, until the yeast infection has cleared up. Give the vagina time to heal so that sex can be pleasurable and healthy.

Dherbs Solutions

For chronic vaginal yeast infection, try:

To knock out an insidious yeast infection within 3-5 days:

  • Take 5 capsules of Flora Balance every 2-3 hours for 3-5 days.
  • Only eat raw foods like salad. Drink plenty of vegetable juice throughout the day (3-5 times). Order the Full Body Cleanse Companion (ebook)for additional raw foods and vegetable juice recipes.
  • Bathe in sea salt (2 boxes), 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and Tea Tree Oil (5-8 drops) daily.
  • Perform an enema every other day. The enema solution should be herbal (consisting of Black Walnuts, Echinacea, and Goldenseal, and Cascara Sagrada). Make a tea of these herbs and pour the tea in your enema bag (if you use loose herbs, make sure you strain the tea first).
  • If you choose to do douching due to severe itching and inflammation, make a tea consisting of Red Raspberry Leaf, Marshmallow, Slippery Elm Bark, Mullein leaf, and Lemon Verbena, and add in 3 drops of Tea Tree Oil.
