The world of DIY beauty recipes and hacks is flooded with essential oils, cocoa or shea butters, rosehips, aloe vera, and other ingredients that promote skin and hair health. One simple remedy, which has become famous on beauty blogs and YouTube videos, is rice water, the liquid that is loaded with amino acids and vitamins that encourage healthy, glowing skin.

What Is Rice Water?

Rice water is the water that you obtain by soaking rice in water. Many women in Japan have been using rice water for over 1,000 years, primarily to lighten skin and reduce dark patches. The Yao women in Huangluo, China, which has become known as “the world’s longest hair village, accredit their ankle-length hair to rinsing with rice water. Many commercial beauty products, including creams, toners, and soaps, actually contain rice water. The health benefits are attributed to the rice itself, because rice grains contain antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins B, E, & K.

How To Make Rice Water

It turns out that rinsing the rice is a key step that must not be forgotten. It doesn’t just yield less starchy rice; rather, it helps the nutrients from the rice infuse into the water. Pour a half-cup of uncooked rice into a bowl with 2 cups of water. Once you’ve given your rice a stir, let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. Strain the rice from the water and store the rice water in a sealable glass jar. It will stay fresh for up to one week in the fridge.

Benefits Of Rice Water

For Dry Skin

Sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) is an ingredient found in a lot of personal hygiene products, and it has been known to cause skin irritation. While no scientific studies have been conducted, anecdotal evidence suggests that using rice water twice a day can reduce the damage done by SLS.

For The Face

If you leave the rice water soaking for about two days, it begins to ferment into a mild form of rice wine, which as been known to increase collagen in the skin. A 2013 study found that rice wine may have natural sunscreen properties, and that it may improve skin damage from too much sun exposure. Other research found that fermenting rice water richens the antioxidant content, which may result in an anti-aging effect when applied to the skin.

For Eczema

Eczema affects about 35 million Americans, and it can be a chronic problem for lots of people. About 1-3% of American adults have it, 10-20% of children have it, and about 70% of eczema cases begin in children under the age of five. Applying rice water to the skin can help to reduce itchiness and clear up eczema blemishes. More research needs to be conducted, but anecdotal evidence has proven this to be true so far.

How To Use Rice Water On The Skin

As A Cleanser

Splash your face with rice water and massage the liquid into the skin. Gently rinse the rice water away with cold water to help seal your pores. That’s it!

Toner

After cleansing with warm and cold water, soak a cotton ball or pad in a little rice water and dab your face and neck. Allow the rice water to dry on the face and then continue you to moisturize. You can click here for a great all-natural moisturizer.

Face Mask

Get a paper towel and cut out holes for your eyes, nose, and mouth. Soak this paper towel in rice water for 10 minutes. When you remove it from the rice water, be careful not to tear it. Place the soaked paper towel on your face and leave it there for 10-15 minutes. Remove and rinse with cold water.

Eye problems diminish natural vision; so if you want optimal vision or eyesight, by all means take care of your eyes.

Various Eye Diseases

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a major eye disease or disorder whereby there is a loss of peripheral vision, and accompanied by an increase in fluid pressure within the eyeball that can lead to degeneration of the optical nerve due to compression. The built up pressure in the eyes that cause the compression is really nothing but mucus and other toxic fluid wastes trapped in the body due to poor elimination and which make their way to the eyes.

Conjunctivitis

This eye disease denotes inflammation of the conjuctiva. Anytime we have a medical term ending with “itis” i.e., bronchitis, vaginitis, arthritis, we know that inflammation is on the scene and that inflammation is due to excess negative or unhealthy mucus.

Blepharitis

This is another eye disease whereby inflammation (due to excess buildup of negative or unhealthy mucus) of the outer edges of the eyelids causes redness, burning, itching, and a feeling that something is in one’s eye. Symptoms of this disease include loss of eyelashes, swollen eyelids, and sensitivity to light.

People who experience “glued” eyes are suffering from blepharitis. It causes secretions (that are mucus-based) that form crusts that “glue” or “paste” the eyes together during sleep.

Other Eye Problems

“Cat in the eye” is an excess mucus oozing from the corner or pocket of the eyes.

Watery eyes indicate a so-called “cold.” The so-called immune system is taxed and you need to rest. Most people can’t “see” this, but this is what the body is telling them.

Blurred vision usually denotes other problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Bloodshot eyes can denote many things, including consumption of alcohol, eyestrain, fatigue, and use of drugs. The eyes become bloodshot when “the small vessels on the surface of the eye become inflamed and congested with blood, usually in response to an insufficient supply of oxygen in the cornea or tissues covering the eyes.” Balch supra

Browning of the eyes (white of the eye) undoubtedly denotes cholesterol (unnatural cholesterol), usually from poor diet that includes dead animal flesh or carcass and animal excreta (dairy products, a/k/a liquefied cow snot/mucus).

Dark circles under or around the eyes usually indicate exhaustion stemming from lack of proper or adequate amount of rest and sleep.

Puffiness under the eyes usually denotes kidney problems, especially fluid retention in the kidneys. You work on this problem by addressing the kidneys and/or excess fluids in the body.

Red and swollen eyes usually indicate presence of allergies.

Yellowing of the eyes denotes liver toxicity, perhaps from jaundice, hepatitis, or other liver pathologies. This problem is addressed by addressing the liver (liver cleansing, coffee enema, etc.).

Droopy eyes usually denote weakening of the eye muscles.

Protruding or bulging eyes usually denote thyroid problems. This problem is addressed by addressing the thyroid gland.

There is a very good reason why so-called diabetics end up with eye problems, blurred vision followed by blindness. Diabetes the disease does not cause blindness, but the pharmaceutical grade of the drug ‘insulin’ does.

Prescription Glasses or Contact Lenses and Eye Problems

Wearing eyeglasses denote that your eyes or vision is bad or poor and you need help seeing.

Prescription eyeglasses can be detrimental to your eyes as well. Instead of strengthening your eyes, the ciliary muscles in your eyes, they actually help to weaken them. When you focus on a thing, you are using your ciliary muscles. But when you wear prescription glasses, the glasses magnify objects for you that cause your ciliary muscles in your eyes to become lethargic and indolent.

Why are so many young children wearing eyeglasses today? Because of harmful chemicals used in commercial brand children’s shampoo, conditioner, and bubble bath that contained industrial agents such as PROPYLENE GLYCOL and SODIUM LAUREL SULFATE.

Propylene glycol is used to make car anti-freeze. It is an industrial product that the government allows to be used in food and cosmetics, but not cat food because it’s too harmful for the pet to ingest.

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (and Sodium Laureth Sulfate) is a known skin irritant commonly used in hair care, skin, and bubble bath products. It’s also used in the cleaning industry as garage floor cleaner and engine degreaser.

Colored contact lenses are nothing but a profit-making scheme. People with poor eyesight need contact lenses. People who want to change their eye color do not.

Computers and Eye Problems

Another device that impairs the health of the eyes are computer screens. People who work on a computer for numerous hours throughout the day would be wise to purchase anti-radiation screens to place over their computer monitors. The radiation glare emitted from computer screens harms the eyes, including the chakra of the eyes.

Take periodic breaks from looking at your computer screen and perform ocular or eye exercises. Hold a blue colored crystal or stone (lapis lazuli and/or sodalite are best) between your fingers and stare into the stone for approximately one minute. These stones will dissipate the radiation field from computer screen to your eyes. Crystals and gemstones are more helpful than you know.

Commercial Drops and Eye Problems

Commercial brand eye drops are chemical based not helpful to the eyes. They mask a different problem that needs to be addressed.

Televisions and Eye Problems

The size of a TV set doesn’t just tell you how big the screen is. It’s also telling you the MINIMUM distance you need to place between your eyes and the screen. Simply convert the inches into feet and then sit that many feet away from your television set and screen.

Healing Eyes Problems Naturally

Pinhole readers are excellent in repairing the eyes. These glasses, which are black glasses (no lens) with numerous holes to look through, strengthens your ciliary muscles.

Pinhole readers

Liquid MSM eye drops are a far better choice for eye drops compared to “Visine.” I used MSM eye drops heavily (and daily) some 10 years ago and they greatly helped to improve my eyes.

Cucumber slices are great for puffy or baggy eyes. Puffy and baggy eyes are the result of either the kidneys or lack of sleep. Place cucumber slices over the eyes for about 30 minutes. Learn to get a good night’s sleep.

Crystals are excellent for healing and repairing the eyes. Crystals help to heal the chakras (energy centers) of the eyes. Both eyes have chakras. Your left eye allows energy into the body and the right eye allows energy to exist the body. All openings on the body have chakras – the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, female nipples, vagina, penis, and anus.

Good crystals to use for eye care, maintenance, and remedy include, but is not limited to: Agate, Chalcedony, Mica (Muscovite), Amethyst, Snowflake Obsidian, Angel Aura Quartz, Petalite, Tiger’s Eye, and Hawk’s Eye.

Dietary Intervention

Eat plenty of blueberries. It’s the best food you could eat for maintenance and/or repair of the eyes. Be it raw whole blueberries, dried blueberries (that are unsulphured), blueberry jam or jelly, etc., just simply eat a lot of blueberries for the sake of improving the health and vision of your eyes.

Drink a cup of organic blueberry juice daily. Good brands to purchase include Lakewood and Knudsen.

Eye nutrients include Vitamin A, Lutein, Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Zinc. Many of these nutrients are sold in natural form here at Dherbs.Com (see Minerals and Vitamins).

Herbs great for naturally healing and/or maintaining the eyes and vision include Bilberry, Eyebright, Calendula Flower, Chrysanthemum Flower, Passionflower, Mullein Leaf, Chamomile Flower, Cayenne, Amla Fruit, Bilberry (also known as Huckleberry and Blueberry) provides natural carotene and Vitamin E and greatly helps to strengthen the eyes. During WWII, British jet pilots were given bilberry so as to improve their night vision. This herb greatly helps to reverse and/or prevent night-blindness.

Eyebright maintains the health of the optical system. It ranks only under bilberry as a powerful eye aid and healer.

Calendula is one of the greatest natural sources of the eye nutrient “lutein”, which is sold in it’s isolated form in commercial health food stores. However, if the lutein is not derived from a living food, it’s inorganic and thus not good for human health. You can derive plenty of organic lutein from Calendula (a/k/a Marigold).

Grape Seed Extract is a natural source of anti-oxidant and helps prevent free radical damage, including in the eye area.

I do not advise the wearing of tinted sunglasses, at least for people with dominant eyes (Black people). Contrary to your programming, people with dominant eyes require sunlight. Looking directly into the sunlight for a few seconds each day is actually healthy for the eyes. On the other hand, people with recessive eyes (Caucasian people) have more of a concern against the sunlight (excess amounts of it) and are qualified and justified in wearing tinted sunglasses.

Lighting for Optimal Eye Health

Sunlight is necessary for the eyes because it helps to regulate our internal clock: our circadian rhythms, which tie into the Pineal Gland and melatonin.

Creative people (“Quaquaversals”) who are up throughout the night for higher creative pursuits, make sure you are using Full Spectrum lighting which match or mimic natural sunlight. Throw away or avoid using regular, commercial, cheap 2-spectrum bulbs (yellow and white light) because these bulbs greatly impair ocular or eye health. Pay the money and start using Full Spectrum lighting (bulbs). Full Spectrum light bulbs are available at good health food stores.

Full Spectrum lighting is used in many European countries whereby there is more darkness than light. Americans should also be using these bulbs as well for purposes of improving eye health as well as overall health. These bulbs last 2-3 times longer than white 2-spectrum fluorescent light bulbs.

Yes, beware of toothpaste! Commercial brand toothpastes, that is!

Toothpaste

Commercial brand toothpastes contain caustic and toxic ingredients known to affect physical health. There’s a reason why if it’s ingested in large quantities that the consumer is directed to call a poison control center.

Many commercial brand toothpastes contain ingredients such as sodium fluoride, propylene glycol, sodium laurel sulfate, sodium saccharin, polyethylene, Blue Lake #1, D & C Red #30 Lake, and FD & C Blue #1 Lake.

Sodium fluoride (aka Flouride) is a toxic chemical used in rat poison. Teeth do not require fluoride, but fluorine. Fluoride is not a mineral or element, but fluorine is. Fluorine helps prevent tooth decay. Organic fluorine is found in Black Walnut Hulls and Miswak (Peelu), although in very low concentrations.

Propylene glycol is an industrial agent. It is commonly used to keep products moist and is also used in car antifreeze solutions and de-icing solutions for cars, airplanes, and boats.

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) is a surfactant and detergent commonly used in engine degreaser, garage floor cleaners, and car wash soaps. It’s also used clinical testing as a primary skin irritant.

Sodium saccharin is another ingredient in rat poison. In toothpaste, it’s a sweetener.

Polyethylene is PLASTIC.

Blue Lake, FD & C Lake, and all the Lakes are petroleum-derived dyes and known carcinogens. They are used in your toothpastes to give them color.

Sugar alternatives are commonly found in oral hygiene and toothpaste products. They don’t outright use sugar because toothpaste is supposed to fight against the damage of sugar so they use artificial sweeteners instead.

Natural Toothpaste or Tooth Powder Products

There are good alternative brands of toothpaste on the shelves of good health food stores such as Whole Foods Market, Trader Joes, Wild Oats, Natural Grocer Stores (Northern California), VP Discount Health Stores, Nature Mart (Los Angeles, CA), Erewhon (Los Angeles, CA), New Frontiers (Sedona and Flagstaff, Arizona), Sevenanda (Atlanta, GA), and Simply Wholesome (Los Angeles, CA) just to name a few.

Good alternative brands of toothpaste include:

  • Ayurveda
  • Nature’s Gate
  • Peelu
  • Tom’s of Maine

Even with these alternative brands, it’s important to read the labels because many natural brands also add fluoride.

Herbs are great for tooth powder purposes. Peelu brand makes a great tooth powder, if you can tolerate the taste. Other herbs that make excellent tooth powders include White Oak Bark, Clove, Black Walnut Hull, Neem, Bayberry, Goldenseal, Witch Hazel bark, and Cranesbill.

Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes can be harmful if you use the wrong type or size for your teeth or gum condition. Use a toothbrush with very soft bristles. You can also use a towel to clean your teeth. Simply wet the towel and add a little herbal tooth powder to the towel and start brushing and polishing.

Healing Tooth Problems Naturally

For strong and healthy teeth, make sure you get optimal amounts of calcium phosphate, especially if you are pregnant. A developing baby can cause a pregnant woman to lose calcium, which is why many females experience problems with their teeth after pregnancy.

Essential oil of Clove is known to provide relief from tooth pain. Apply a few drops on to a Q-tip and apply to the toothache. This is just a temporary remedy until you can get yourself to a dentist, preferably a holistic dentist (if you can find one).

Many dental problems can be resolved through diet changes including plaque build up, sensitive teeth, gingivitis (bad breath), and stained teeth.

Tooth whiteners are toxic and potentially harmful to your health. Nothing whitens teeth better than Carbon, a/k/a Activated Charcoal. Though a tasteless black substance, this stuff whitens teeth and removes plaque at the same time. The substance is very powerful and also helps to maintain a healthy mouth pH balance.

Dietary Intervention

Eliminate meat, dairy products, refined grains and starches from your diet. Eliminate processed foods or greatly cut back on them. Processed vegan products are better than actual meat-based ones.

Consider going all raw (at least for purposes of healing). As raw foodism may be too strict for many, consider becoming a vegan. Eating fruits and vegetables are great for the teeth and gums. Strawberries are especially good to eat as they clean the teeth. Biting into a strawberry is one of the best things you can do for your teeth and gums.

Drinking vegetable juice and swooshing the juice around in your mouth is also healing for your teeth, gums and mouth.

Cilantro is good stuff if you have or had mercury filings in your mouth via teeth. Mercury leeches and eventually makes it way to the brain, which causes a host of problems, but cilantro can help detoxify the body of mercury.

Alkaline water is the best water you can drink for healing and health purposes. Always drink at least half your body weight in water. For example, if your total body weight is 160 pounds, you should drink at least 80 ounces because half of 160 is 80.

Stop chewing gum. For breath freshener, try Miswak (Peelu) sticks, Neem sticks, and/or Licorice sticks – all Nature’s toothbrush sticks..

Switch from drinking coffee to drinking coffee alternatives such as brands like Teeccino, Pero, and Cafix. Coffee alternatives are made from dried herbs, seeds, and fruits. Teeccino brand tastes good!

If you’re drinking coffee for that caffeine high, switch to herbs containing bio-active caffeine such as Yerba Mate, Kola Nut, Green Tea, or Guarana. The caffeine in these herbs is bio-active (alive) and not harmful on the body nor are they addictive.

If you use baking soda to brush your teeth, make sure the baking soda is ‘aluminum free.’

Make Your Own Mouthwash

Avoid using commercial mouthwash and gargling agents that contain toxic ingredients such as ALCOHOL (which has been implicated in cancer of the throat), PROPYLENE GLYCOL, SODIUM SACCHARIN, D&C and FD&C color dyes (petroleum), and SODIUM LAUREL SULFATE.

You can also make your own mouthwash using these guidelines:

  • Base 1: Blend warm water, sea salt, and a few drops of tea tree oil
  • Base 2: Blend warm water, sea salt, and hydrogen peroxide (3% variation, not 35% food grade variation which should be avoided for this purpose).
  • Add essential oils to either base such as Clove, Tea Tree, Wintergreen, Spearmint and Peppermint

Clove and Tea Tree give your mouthwash antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties and activities.

Gargling with a little hydrogen peroxide (top or cap full) is great for oral hygiene purposes, especially in cases of internal canker sores (oral herpes) and periodontal disease. If you suffer from or experience bleeding gums, gargle with hydrogen peroxide and a little sea salt which will help the bleeding to subside.

You can add a little vegetable glycerine to your mouthwash to make it a little sweet tasting. You can also add liquid chlorophyll to your mouthwash solution as well – gives it a nice green color.

Root Canals

And remember, there is no herbal alternative to a root canal. Herbs can’t replace surgery.

If you have a major dental issue, by all means seek the help you need and require. You can deal with the injection of drugs later on.

Cleanliness is next to godliness, but many soaps are outright made under devilish practices.

The ingredients in many mass-brand and designer-brand soaps are made with ingredients known to damage skin, penetrate the body and can have potentially dangerous effects with long-term use.

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS)

Commercial brand soaps contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS), also known as Sodium Dodecyl and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLFS), for its lathering effect. But this chemical called SLS is highly toxic and should be avoided at all costs. It causes eye damage, especially in babies and little children, when it gets into the eyes.

Numerous researchers have known for years that Sodium Laurel Sulfate is a skin irritant. Sodium Laurel Sulfate is used as a laboratory standard for irritating skin and inducing contact dermatitis. Sodium Laurel Sulfate irritates the skin by inflaming it. Many uninformed individuals are exacerbating chronic skin conditions by using soap, harmful soaps.

Animal fat

Most soap brands on the market also contain animal fat.

This is important if you are a vegan or one who abstains from consumption and use of animals and animal byproducts. The animal fat used in soap is called tallow.

Artificial fragrance

Commercial brand soaps contain synthetic chemicals to make them smell a certain way. ‘Perfume’ as a general word and ingredient means chemically derived fragrance.

Commercial brand soaps are using synthetic smells but these synthetic smells are chemically derived from harmful substances and agents.

Natural alternatives to soap

Natural brands of soap are made of or from glycerin, which is plant derived. Glycerin-based soaps are okay to use for bathing and showering purposes.

There are natural soaps that lather, and it’s OK if the sodium laurel sulfate is derived from coconut. Coconut-based soaps make for some of the best natural soaps, especially if you like foam and lather.

Good alternative brands of soap include:

  • Kiss My Face
  • Grandpa
  • Nubian Heritage
  • Dr. Bronner’s (liquid and bar soaps)
  • Juniper Ridge
  • Alaffia
  • EO
  • Natural Beauty
  • Mono Tiare Tahiti
  • South of France
  • River Soap Company
  • Organic Grooming
  • Tom’s of Maine
  • Nature’s Gate, and
  • Whole Foods Market (365)
