If you want to pack a lot of fruits and vegetables into one meal, make a smoothie. If you want to fill up on an assortment of valuable nutrients, make a smoothie. In case the point isn’t clear, we love smoothies, especially one that is as nutrient-dense and delicious as this recipe. This smoothie is packed with protein, fiber, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, antioxidants, and numerous vitamins and minerals. It is smooth, rich, and creamy just like a milkshake!

Most smoothies use banana as the base with the intension of creating a creamy texture with natural sweetness. This smoothie includes a frozen banana, but it also incorporates avocado, which contributes to the creaminess. Ideally, freeze both the banana and avocado overnight. Make sure to peel and slice the banana and avocado prior to freezing. If you freeze both of these ingredients with the peels on, you will regret it. If you already have some frozen banana or frozen avocado on hand, feel free to include that in the smoothie. You may already have packaged frozen avocado or banana, which you can use as long as there are no added ingredients.

If you are all about the chocolate life, you may want to consider making your own raw vegan chocolate almond milk or cashew milk. The way to do this is very similar to a traditional nut milk recipe, only you whisk in raw cacao powder until smooth. Because raw cacao powder has a bitter taste, you may need to add some extra grade A maple syrup or raw agave nectar to your homemade chocolate milk. If that sounds like a few too many steps, feel free to just add raw cacao powder to the smoothie with the homemade almond milk. Don’t have the energy to make almond milk? Use water instead!

One of the most common questions that we receive is, “How will I get enough protein through the raw vegan diet while I’m cleansing?” We completely understand that the raw vegan diet can seem completely devoid of protein to the naked eye. Most people associate protein with animal-based foods, including beef, poultry, fish, seafood, legumes, dairy, and deli meats, among other foods. Please allow us to change that tune with this blueberry smoothie that’s packed with plant-based protein. It’s great to enjoy for breakfast, or even pre- or post-workout.

Although blueberries color the smoothie a deep purplish-blue, they are not the protein superstars of this smoothie. Spinach, which is potentially the best green to add to a smoothie because it doesn’t take over the flavor, is rich in vitamin K, magnesium, antioxidants, and offers a minimal amount of protein. The real protein (and omega-3 fatty acids) comes from the flax and chia seeds. This smoothie contains one tablespoon of flax and chia seeds, which means this smoothie contains nearly four grams of protein. Add in a little extra protein from the dates, spinach, and homemade almond milk and you’ve got yourself quite a filling smoothie!

Dates may not contain a whole lot of protein, but they help provide you with energy. This is because they are rich in invert sugar, which gives the body energy for hours. This means that the sugar content in dates is almost entirely inverted from glucose or fructose. The invert sugar is immediately absorbed by the body without the need for digestion, which ordinary sugar typically goes through. You can use the sugar for energy without a blood sugar spike!

Five ingredients…that is all you need to make your next favorite smoothie. It’s beautiful when a recipe such as this comes together and tastes better and better with every sip. Adding nut butter to your smoothie can be a real game changer, especially if you are cleansing. Not only does it add healthy fat and protein, but it also adds a nutty flavor that gives your palate a break from fruits and vegetables. It’s that new guest at the party that is a hit with everyone!

The banana is a classic smoothie ingredient, but we feel that it gets used without much thought. It’s as though people add bananas to smoothies just because. It’s an easy ingredient to incorporate into a smoothie, with the added benefit of making a smoothie creamier and naturally sweet. Bananas happen to be great sources of vitamin B6, vitamin C, fiber, manganese, potassium, and magnesium. The vitamin B6 is easily absorbed by the body, and one banana can provide nearly 25% of your recommended daily intake. Vitamin B6 help the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and amino acids, and helps maintain a healthy nervous system.

That means that the banana can help your body metabolize the fats and protein from almond butter and use them for energy efficiently. Additionally, the dietary fiber in both banana and almond butter can help keep you full for longer. That’s why we encourage you to make this smoothie for breakfast. You may just avoid unnecessary snacking before you eat lunch!

The persimmon is a fall and winter fruit (available from October to February) that is uniquely plump and sweet. It is an underrated fruit, primarily because a lot of people ignore them in the grocery store. They know what the fruit looks like, but since they don’t know what to do with it, the fruit remains in the store. For those who love persimmons and have countless recipes, we applaud your culinary knowledge and skills. If you are familiar with persimmons, then you know they are not for everyone, especially, kids, but this smoothie may change the way the little ones feel about the unique fruit.

If you are new to persimmons, it can be tricky to determine their ripeness. Just like other fruits, persimmons taste best when you allow them to fully ripen. Hachiya persimmons take a little longer to ripen than Fuyu persimmons, which you will want to buy for this recipe. Many people think that Fuyu persimmons have a sweeter flavor profile and that they are less astringent than Hachiya persimmons. A Fuyu persimmon is ripe when it is a little squishy, but still slightly firm to the touch. Firm Hachiya persimmons are very tart, and only sweeten up once they fully ripen.

As far as flavor goes, Fuyu persimmons have a mild taste with a honey-like flavor. You can eat them raw, removing the tops and the skin before slicing them up. Just make sure to discard any large seeds, especially before you blend them into this smoothie. The persimmons are the only fruit or vegetable in this smoothie and they are slightly sour, the homemade almond milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and lemon juice will balance that tartness. We hope you (and the kids!) love this simple persimmon smoothie. It’s definitely one for the books that is very easy to make.

Taste the flavors of fall in this unique spiced orange cranberry smoothie! The spices are aromatic and perfectly complement the tartness of cranberries, sweetness of pear, and acidity of fresh oranges. Although this smoothie only contains fruit, it packs a serious nutritional punch. It offers lots of antioxidants, vitamin C, fiber, healthy fats, and protein. Because of the impressive nutrient content, this is a great smoothie to enjoy post-holiday meal. It really helps kickstart the digestive process after the big holiday feast!

If you have frozen cranberries, you can use them instead of fresh cranberries. That said, fresh cranberries have a limited window of availability in grocery stores, so we encourage you to get your hands on them while they are in stores. Save some other cranberries for a homemade cranberry sauce (click here for recipe). What we don’t want you to do, however, is use frozen orange juice from concentrate. You need freshly squeezed orange juice, but you also need to peel an orange, separate the segments, and freeze overnight. This will enhance that orange flavor in your smoothie.

Since there are some tart flavors in this smoothie, feel free to add some raw agave nectar or maple syrup for sweetness. If you use a ripe pear, though, the natural sugars will help balance the tart cranberries and oranges. Please enjoy this refreshing and unique smoothie that represents autumn to a T!

Yes, smoothies are healthy, fun, delicious, and quite colorful, especially this recipe. This smoothie looks more like a drink you’d order while lounging by the pool on vacation more than a healthy, immune boosting smoothie. Not only is this drink visually stunning, but it also provides a long list of nutrients, many of which optimize immune function. Plus, this smoothie aims to use some fall and winter produce items, such as blood oranges and beets.

The real kickers in this smoothie are the cayenne, raw ginger, and turmeric. These three ingredients exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-fungal properties. Sounds like everything you need to make it out of cold and flu season unscathed, right? While this smoothie may not be the magic shield that blocks all viruses and bacteria, it does provide nutrients that help boost the immune system. Beets, oranges, lemons, mangos, and raspberries offer an assortment of nutrients, including vitamins A & C, antioxidants, fiber, folate, nitrites, beta-carotene, and polyphenols.

Unlike other smoothies, you have to blend this smoothie in two batches. Firstly, you blend the yellow ingredients, pour the mixture into two glasses, and then rinse the blender out. Add the remaining red ingredients to the clean blender and blend until smooth. Pour that mixture into the glasses and you will see a tie die concoction in your smoothie glasses. If you start your day off with a cup of this smoothie, your immune system will thank you. Plus, you get to feel like a bartender at a fancy resort blended up something special for you when you look at it!

Is there any better way to start your morning than by drinking a smoothie? Well, if you woke up and immediately got a massage and then enjoyed your dream meal from a private chef, that would probably beat out a smoothie. Unfortunately, we can’t all wake up like that, but we can wake up and blitz a few ingredients together in a blender, right? Yes we can and yes we will! Smoothie combinations are endless and different ingredients offer unique nutrients.

Beets, for example, make great smoothie additions because they contain iron, folate, manganese, copper, magnesium, potassium, vitamins C & B6, fiber, and antioxidants. Researchers have studied beets for their ability to decrease elevated blood pressure levels, a major risk factor for heart disease. Although beetroot juice may lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, the lowering effect appears great for systolic blood pressure. Raw beets also exhibit a stronger effect than cooked beets. Researchers attribute this ability to the high concentration of nitrites, which the body converts to nitric oxide, a molecule that dilates blood vessels and causes blood pressure levels to decline.

Beets contain antioxidant compounds, but so do blueberries. Blueberries also have a low glycemic index, making them a great choice for diabetics and keto enthusiasts. They add a touch of sweetness, but so does the banana and agave nectar. You need that sweetness to balance the earthy bet flavor. Blend all of the ingredients together until you reach your desired consistency. Feel free to make a larger batch in case more people want to start their day off with this smoothie.

Greetings to all the berry and pistachio lovers! Welcome to the unique and delicious flavor combination that is this sweetly-tart berry pistachio smoothie. It satisfies both your sweet and salty cravings at once, and in smoothie form no less! It isn’t an overly salty smoothie, though. You won’t feel like you just ate an entire bag of chips after sipping on a tall glass of this tasty creation. The pistachios provide a hint of saltiness that pairs beautifully with the sweet tartness of the raspberries, strawberries, and fresh orange.

Did you know that pistachio intake can be traced back 300,000 years? You commonly see them as a snack nowadays, but you can add them to desserts, salads, trail mixes, and so much more. Besides offering a slightly salty flavor, pistachios offer a long list of health benefits. Pistachios, just like raspberries, strawberries and orange, offer lots of antioxidants that help protect your cells. Researchers note that pistachios contain more antioxidant compounds that other nuts and seeds. They are especially rich in zeaxanthin and lutein, two antioxidants that help protect the eyes from blue light damage and age-related macular degeneration. The polyphenols and tocopherols in pistachios may help protect against heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Believe it or not, this smoothie does not contain banana. Although it doesn’t require one, you can add a banana if you desire. Want your smoothie to be a little thicker? Go ahead and add some more berries and ice cubes during the blending process. If you want to bulk up the smoothie a little, you can add some chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp hearts, or avocado. Feel free to throw in some spinach, but just keep in mind that the color of the smoothie will change.
