It’s very easy to spend lots of money on skin care products. That is especially true when products say that they can turn back the hands of time and make your skin look 20 years younger. These products state that your skin will glow like never before! Unfortunately, people get lured in by these buzzwords, use the products, and don’t experience the advertised benefits.

What if we told you that you could save some money and make y4our own face serum that has anti-aging properties. When you make your own serum, you know exactly what goes into it. There are no problematic fragrances or added ingredients that detract from the primary ingredients. When you make your own serum, you have the freedom to customize ingredients based on your skin type. For example, if the carrier oil in this recipe doesn’t work for you, swap it out for one that does. The same can be said for the essential oils.

As a quick note, customizing your blend is very doable, but we recommend that you keep the same ratios for a two-ounce bottle. You can increase the amount of essential oils by a few drops or so, but be mindful with your use of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can cause skin irritation, so do a small patch test on your arm or something to ensure that you don’t have a negative reaction.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is primarily known for nourishing dry, dull skin, but it may benefit people with acne-prone skin as well. Dermatologists consider argan oil to be non-comedogenic, so it will not leave the skin feeling greasy. It is safe and beneficial for all skin types. The rich antioxidant content helps protect the skin from environmental damage. Argan oil contains vitamin E and polyphenols, which help soften the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Argan oil contains fatty acids, including oleic and linoleic acids, which exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Not only does that help soothe irritated skin, but it also works to reduce the appearance of blemishes. Another reason why argan oil is great for all skin types is because of the moisturizing properties. People with oily skin will find that it is lightweight, while those with dry skin will find that it makes skin feel soft, supple, and highly moisturized.

Rosehip Oil

Is rosehip oil the universal skin savior? Some say it is, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. Rosehip oil contains a lot of omega 3, 6, 7, and 9 fatty acids, all of which are necessary for skin repair and regeneration. Rosehip oil may help reduce the appearance of blemishes and scars and may work to brighten overall skin tone. Similar to argan oil, rosehip oil is beneficial for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

If dryness is your concern, rosehip oil may do the trick! Various creams may provide hydration, but rosehip oil goes above and beyond by adding moisture and sealing it in too. The fatty acids in rosehip oil help the skin retain water for longer, which helps to keep it soft and supple. Finally, rosehip oil has been described as a gentle alternative to retinol. Rosehip oil contains a small amount of vitamin A, which gives it the regenerative properties. Working with the other antioxidants, rosehip oil may help reduce sagging skin and fine lines.

DIY Face Serum

Ingredients:

  • 2-ounce amber glass bottle with dropper
  • 20 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops tea tree oil
  • 5 drops rose essential oil
  • Argan oil
  • Rosehip oil

Instructions:

  • Add the essential oils to the glass bottle and fill the bottle two-thirds of the way with argan oil.
  • Fill the rest of the bottle with rosehip oil, screw on the lid, and shake well to combine.
  • It is best to apply this serum at night before bed. Add a dime-size amount to your palms and gently apply all over your face, but be careful to avoid the eye area.

There are too many creams to choose from these days! From body butters and facial creams to anti-aging serums and more, it can be hard to find exactly what works for you and your skin. If you are looking to help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, there are some essential ingredients to look out for. By that, we mean that you should seek out certain ingredients and also avoid others.

When you choose an anti-aging cream, the goal is to find ingredients that nourish the skin in many different ways. Ideally, these ingredients should help your skin retain moisture, provide anti-inflammatory properties, and improve overall complexion. Continue reading to learn about some of the featured ingredients in the DIY anti-aging night cream that contribute to more youthful skin.

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil, or rosehip seed oil, is pressed from the fruit and seeds of the rose plant. It contains a wide variety of essential fatty acids, including linoleic and linolenic acids, which work to keep cell walls strong so they don’t lose water. If there is one thing to know about beauty, it is that hydration is necessary for soft, supple skin. Rosehip oil also contains vitamin A, which is necessary for collagen production. It also inhibits the creation of MMP-1, an enzyme that breaks down collagen. Some research indicates that rosehip oil’s antioxidants help combat visible sun damage, and may potentially prevent photo-aging.

Sweet Almond Oil

As an emollient, sweet almond oil helps soften and smooth the skin, making this oil suitable for those with dry or sensitive skin types. Regular use of sweet almond oil may help reduce inflamed or irritated skin, which is why it is commonly used among people with eczema or psoriasis. According to research, sweet almond oil encourages collagen production, which is essential for skin elasticity. That can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and promote a more overall youthful look.

Lemon Essential Oil

Researchers note that lemon essential oil is one of the top essential oils for reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging. Lemon essential oil reduces the effects of oxidation on the skin, so using it regularly can help fight against premature aging. Environmental pollutants and free radicals damage the skin through oxidation, but the antioxidants in lemon essential oil can help combat this process. Lemon essential oil also helps to remove dead skin cells, a process that contributes to brighter skin. That means that this essential oil may benefit people with dark spots, scars, or hyperpigmentation.

Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium essential oil exhibits strong antibacterial properties that help the body in different ways. The antibacterial properties may help accelerate the recovery from mild burns, skin infections, and other skin ailments. Scientists note that geranium essential oil is a very effective anti-aging agent. Not only does it improve blood circulation, but it also offers impressive antioxidant activity that helps protect the skin from sun damage. It has a calming effect on the nervous system and has the ability to encourage health cell growth in the skin and hair. Some groups, such as pregnant or breastfeeding women, may be sensitive to this essential oil and should avoid it.

DIY Anti-Aging Night Cream

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons sweet almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon rosehip oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon cocoa butter wafers (unrefined)
  • 1/2 tablespoon beeswax pellets
  • 1/4 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 25 drops lemon essential oil
  • 12 drops geranium essential oil
  • 5 drops carrot seed essential oil
  • 1/4 cup filtered water

Instructions:

  • Add the sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, cocoa butter, and beeswax pellets to a medium sized glass bowl. Place this bowl on top of a saucepan with a few inches of water to create a makeshift double boiler.
  • Place this over medium heat and stir occasionally until all of the ingredients have fully melted and combined.
  • Remove from heat and pour in the vitamin E oil and essential oils, stirring slowly as you add them in.
  • Either pour the mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer or add it to a mixing bowl. Place in the fridge for 10 minutes to cool.
  • Remove the bowl from the fridge and decide whether you want to use a stand mixer or use an electric hand mixer to whip it until it becomes a thick cream. If using a stand mixer, make sure to use the whisk attachment. Start whisking slowly and then increase the speed.
  • Spoon the mixture into a clean glass jar and apply to the face, preferably at night after you cleanse.

From jojoba and argan to coconut and beyond, many oils reportedly improve the skin’s appearance. Which ones are the most effective for improving the overall health and integrity of your skin, though? Whether you want to moisturize, protect, cleanse, or reduce fine lines, face oils may be exactly what your skin has been missing.

First off, you must understand that each oil is unique and offers its own set of benefits. Additionally, one oil that works for one person may not work for another person. The unique biology of the skin may agree with oils in different ways. What is for certain is that many oils have been researched and reviewed by scientists and beauty experts. In this article, we’ll take a look at five different face oils and how they contribute to flawless-looking skin

Grapeseed Oil

Rich in high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E, grapeseed oil works to increase the skin’s moisture levels. It also makes the skin more supple and less prone to cracking, which reduces the risk of wrinkles or fine lines. According to beauty experts, grapeseed oil is one of the best natural oils for facial skin, primarily because it contains proanthocyanidin. This antioxidant helps to even out skin tone and enhances the skin’s ability to bounce back. One study found that oral consumption of grapeseed oil reduced the appearance of melasma, which is characterized by blue-gray or brown patches on the face.

Olive Oil

It shouldn’t be a surprise that olive oil, although a staple in many kitchens, made the list of beneficial face oils. Olive oil results from a process of pressing olive fruits to extract their oil. It contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, in addition to antioxidants and squalane. Research suggests that olive oil helps to fight free radical damage, slow skin aging, and hydrate dry skin. One animal study involving mice found that olive oil application to their skin yielded lower rates of tumors caused by ultraviolet rays. If you have sensitive skin, however, steer clear of olive oil because it may cause allergies

Marula Oil

If you are chasing the fountain of youth and yearn for beautifully radiant skin, marula oil offers impressive anti-aging benefits. Made from the marula trees in South Africa, marula oil can help smooth fine lines and may reduce the appearance of wrinkles. If you have dry facial skin, apply this oil to your face to leave it feeling soft and refreshed. Because marula oil has a high oleic acid content, it helps restore moisture in skin that is on the drier end of the moisture spectrum. The skin quickly absorbs this oil, so you can apply other products after without worrying about a greasy residue.

Rosehip Oil

Beauty experts consider rosehip oil as one of the top anti-aging oils on the market. It is gentle enough for sensitive skin and is a dry oil, meaning it is fast-absorbing so as not to leave your skin greasy. Instead, applying rosehip oil can help contribute to smoother, softer, and more supple skin. Research shows that rosehip oil encourages cell turnover, so it acts as a natural exfoliant. It is a rich source of vitamin E and essential acids, which work to keep your skin soft and healthy. Rosehip oil may also be effective for eliminating hyperpigmentation, which is usually difficult to get rid of.

Argan Oil

Harvested from the kernels of the argan tree in Morocco, argan oil is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamin E, making it an excellent face oil. It helps to protect the skin and absorbs quickly, so you can use it with other skin care products. One of the attracting factors to argan oil is that it is great for all skin types, from very dry to very oily. It may help get rid of acne because it helps reduce inflammation and stays out of your pores. Lastly, argan oil’s antioxidants may help repair the skin and fight the signs of aging.

Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition that typically presents dry, itchy patches on the skin. The inflammation, itchiness, and redness can lead to cracked or swollen skin, or even blisters. Dermatologists typically prescribe steroid creams to help control the condition, but you can go a more natural route. Homemade eczema creams harness the power of natural ingredients to moisturize the skin and calm inflammation.

Believe it or not, homemade creams can be very effective at reducing eczema symptoms. The reason for this is because they contain nourishing, moisturizing ingredients that exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Some of these ingredients include shea butter, coconut oil, oatmeal, and aloe vera, all of which help relieve itching and promote healing. In fact, research shows that shea butter contains beneficial compounds that exhibit potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity

Please note that if eczema symptoms are severe or persistent, you may require over-the-counter or prescription-strength creams/ointments. Those products often contain active ingredients like immunomodulators or corticosteroids, which work to control symptoms and reduce inflammation. If you want to go the more natural route before resorting to those treatments, the following creams may provide relief.

Baby Butter Balm

A baby’s skin is very sensitive, so prioritizing gentle and safe ingredients for eczema treatment is paramount. When using the following cream on a baby’s skin, make sure to do a small patch test before applying to the affected area.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground oatmeal

Instructions:

  • In a small heat-safe bowl, melt the shea butter and coconut oil in the microwave or in the top of a double boiler. You can also make your own version of a double boiler and melt those ingredients that way.
  • Once the shea butter and coconut oil are fully melted, remove from the heat source and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  • Add the ground oatmeal to the melted mixture and stir to combine. Transfer to a clean, airtight container and allow it to solidify at room temperature. Use when ready.

Soothing Oatmeal Cream

Known for its soothing properties, oatmeal has been used for centuries to remedy skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis. Oats contain compounds, such as beta-glucans, that work to reduce itching, calm inflammation, and relieve dry or irritated skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw organic honey
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

  • For the oats, you can either use regular rolled oats or you can add them to a food processor and blend them into a powder. The choice is yours.
  • In a large bowl, combine the oats, coconut oil, and honey, mixing until thoroughly combined. Add the lavender essential oil (if using) and mix again.
  • Apply a small amount of the cream to the affected areas and gently massage into the skin. Leave the cream on for a few minutes so that the ingredients can penetrate the skin.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Store the remaining cream in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Aloe Vera & Olive Oil Eczema Balm

Olive oil is a natural moisturizer that works to hydrate the skin and enhance skin barrier function. The antioxidants and healthy fats in olive oil work to nourish and soothe dry, itchy skin. Aloe vera exhibits powerful anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce redness and itching, all the while providing a cooling sensation. A six-week study compared the effectiveness of Olivederma (a combination of olive oil and aloe vera) and betamethasone (a corticosteroid) for eczema treatment. The study found that both the Olivederma and betamethasone reduced eczema severity, but Olivederma showed greater improvement.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 10 drops rosehip oil (optional)

Instructions:

  • Add the cocoa butter to the top of a double boiler over medium-low heat and stir occasionally until melted.
  • Once the cocoa butter is melted, pour in the olive oil and remove from heat. Pour the aloe vera gel into the mixture and stir to combine.
  • Add the rosehip oil (if desired) and then transfer the mixture to a clean, airtight container. Allow it to cool completely before you use it. Store in a cool, dark place.

Beach trips, days at the lake, and backyard barbecues are synonymous with two things: summer and sunburns. If you don’t protect your skin, it can burn within 30 minutes of being out in the sun. And if you’ve suffered a bad sunburn, then you understand how miserable it can be. It is possible that some of your efforts to protect your skin fall through the cracks, and you end up with a sunburn. Fortunately, you can soothe sunburnt skin with the after sun lotion in this article.

We want to be clear and say that this after sun lotion is not a miracle cure. It will not make your sunburn vanish within an hour, nor will it undo the damage done to your skin. It can, however, provide some relief and replenish your skin with moisture. Additionally, this after sun lotion may accelerate your recovery, hydrating your skin in the process. As a quick note, try to stay out of the sun while recovering from a sunburn

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera and sunburns go together like peanut butter and jelly. For thousands of years, different civilizations have used aloe vera to treat various skin conditions, such as burns and minor wounds. Some people refer to aloe vera as the “burn plant” because it is highly effective at soothing burns and sunburns. However, when applying aloe vera topically, it can quickly evaporate from the skin, so you may not absorb all of the medicinal properties. For this reason, it can be beneficial to mix it with something that provides a barrier to lock moisture into the skin. That brings us to the next ingredient.

Shea Butter

A go-to in many DIY beauty recipes, shea butter provides excellent moisturizing properties and other noteworthy benefits. If you have dull or dry skin, shea butter can help it retain moisture by forming a protective layer on the skin’s surface. That ultimately reduces water loss and keeps the skin more supple and hydrated. Shea butter also contains vitamins A and E, both of which contribute to a more youthful appearance. Who doesn’t want that? Lastly, shea butter works to promote cell regeneration, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Coconut Oil

If you apply coconut oil to the skin after some time in the sun, it can provide a cooling feeling and may even relieve sunburn symptoms. The saturated fats in coconut oil are excellent for moisturizing the skin. Plus, dermatologists agree that coconut oil aids every aspect of a sunburn. Not only does it have a soothing feel after application, but it also deeply hydrates the skin to repair damage done by the sun.

Lavender Essential Oil

Great for calming the intensity of a sunburn, lavender essential oil is gentle enough for you to topically apply it with a carrier oil on damaged skin. Because of the linalool and linalyl acetate content, lavender essential oil works to reduce the pain of a severe sunburn. Lavender essential oil also contains antibacterial, carminative, and anti-fungal properties, all of which help to accelerate the healing process of a sunburn.

DIY After Sun Lotion

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons organic aloe vera gel
  • 1 tablespoon rosehip oil
  • 30 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions:

  • You will need a stand mixer or a hand mixer to make this recipe.
  • Break up the shea butter into small chunks and place in the mixer. Whip on high for 20 seconds and then stop to scrape down the sides.
  • Add the coconut oil and whip for 20 seconds before stopping to scrape down the sides. Add the aloe vera gel and then whip for another 20 seconds.
  • Repeat this process when you add the rosehip oil and then the lavender essential oil, adding them one at a time and then mixing well. The after sun lotion should be creamy and easy to remove with a silicone spatula.
  • Store in a glass jar in a cool, dry place. Apply to sunburnt skin without being too aggressive. It’s best to apply the lotion after a cold shower.

Providing the skin with nourishing ingredients is not merely for cosmetic purposes. When you deliver vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to the skin, you help maintain an optimal layer of defense against foreign invaders. Bacteria, pathogens, and other toxins from the environment try to plague your skin daily, increasing the risk for premature signs of aging or inflammation. The good news is that keeping your skin vibrant and healthy is fairly simple if you take the right approach.

Some people may be weary about applying certain ingredients to their skin, and rightly so. In regards to essential oils, for example, you should never apply them directly on your skin without diluting them. Mix them with a carrier oil of your choice and then apply them by skin patch testing. This means that you apply the essential oil mixture on a small area of your arm, for example, to observe if you have a reaction. If you do not have a reaction, then you can progress from there.

Although you need to exercise caution when applying essential oils on the skin, they do exhibit impressive beauty benefits. They are highly concentrated and contain impressive plant compounds that exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic, or anti-fungal properties. Continue reading to learn about the best essential oils for beauty and skin care

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is regularly used in aromatherapy for its calming and relaxation properties. Studies show that the scent may help relieve anxiety and symptoms of stress. New research indicates that lavender essential oil triggers the production of glutathione, the body’s master antioxidant. It also signals the body to produce catalase, and superoxide dismutase, two other antioxidants in the body. Glutathione comes to the rescue when cells are under stress. For this reason, researchers believe that lavender essential oil may promote healthy skin cells and protein synthesis, including collagen.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense essential oil has been used for thousands of years in various beauty and medicinal applications. It is commonly added to various DIY beauty products, including homemade sun relief spray, aftershave, and facial scrub. Frankincense essential oil may exhibit healing properties when applied topically on the skin. Many people report that it soothes irritated skin and helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars. Research also shows that frankincense essential oil may reduce the effects of sun damage and help get rid of fine lines.

Patchouli Essential Oil

This is a favored essential oil in the beauty and skin care world because it exhibits anti-aging properties. Not only does it help with fine lines and wrinkles, but it may also promote skin healing and detoxification. It does have a very signature, earthy aroma that can be quite powerful. For this reason, beauty experts recommend pairing it with floral essential oils like lavender or geranium. Patchouli may assist with skin tightening and boosting overall complexion. It may be a great addition to a homemade beard oil because it reduces itch and irritation, while offering protection.

Rosehip Oil

Although this isn’t technically an essential oil, it does exhibit skin-enhancing qualities. Not only is it a wrinkle-fighter, but it also offers an impressive amount of vitamin C, which plays a vital role in collagen production. Additionally, rosehip oil contains oleic, palmitic, linoleic, and gamma linoleic acids, all of which are essential fatty acids. These fatty acids help to strengthen both your skin and nails.

Myrrh Essential Oil

Different cultures have used myrrh essential oil for thousands of years, especially in beauty applications. Even the Ancient Egyptians recognized the value of myrrh, applying it to their bodies to maintain healthy skin and boost radiance. It works to moisturize, tone, and may even help naturally tighten the skin. According to research, myrrh essential oil may help unwanted blemishes fade away. The terpenoids and sesquiterpenes in myrrh help control inflammation and fight free radicals, supporting a more youthful glow.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is known for its antiseptic, purifying, and cleansing properties, making it an excellent essential oil to add to your skin care routine. Many studies confirm that it helps balance uneven skin tone and texture. It may also reduce redness, balance oily skin, and help to calm inflammatory skin conditions. Tea tree oil also works to stimulate hair follicles for healthy hair growth, and it may protect against flaky scalp.

Getting older is one unfortunate aspect of life. With age comes wisdom, but it also comes with gray hairs and wrinkles. In fact, statistics show that fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation start to appear around age 30-35. At the age you are, though, you may not feel like those wrinkles need to be there. Well, it’s possible to keep the skin looking young and healthy by using the homemade cream in this article. The best part is that you won’t need to empty your pockets to pay for expensive, anti-aging serums.

Most anti-aging products tend to be expensive or filled with chemical ingredients. This does not have to be a reality because it’s possible to create a homemade wrinkle cream with cost-effective ingredients. Don’t waste your money on products that don’t work when you can purchase natural ingredients that have proven to fight wrinkles. Research studies indicate that the following ingredients work to fight wrinkles and other effects of aging.

Vitamin E Oil

Everyone focuses on vitamin C in regards to being the ultimate skin nutrient. There’s no denying that vitamin C helps to stimulate collagen production and reduce the signs of aging. Vitamin E, however, is equally as important in skin care products. It’s a potent antioxidant that exists naturally in foods like sweet potatoes, avocados, olive oil, and almonds. Vitamin E oil, on the other hand, is great for topical application. In fact, studies found that vitamin E oil helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to maintain a youthful glow by replenishing lipids and blocking free radical damage on the skin. For optimal results, it’s best to combine vitamin E oil with other skin care ingredients, like the ones in this article.

Shea Butter

Shea butter’s makeup is similar to that of the skin’s fatty acid profile. Because of this, shea butter is able to easily penetrate the skin and promote optimal hydration. It also does this without making the skin look greasy. The buttery consistency is optimal for dry skin, and it works to create a barrier that helps seal in moisture. This same barrier also works to protect the skin from pollutants, which can increase the risk of wrinkles. Shea butter helps to encourage collagen production, which ultimately decreases the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in existing areas. Various studies found shea butter to be very effective and safe for sensitive and non-sensitive areas on the body. That means it’s safe to use on your arms or under the eyes.

Rosehip Oil

According to several studies, rosehip oil is safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin. When used on a regular basis, rosehip oil may help promote a natural, youthful glow and softer, hydrated skin. Similar to shea butter, rosehip oil can easily penetrate the skin to supply it with skin-enhancing nutrients. Rosehip oil contains both vitamins C & E, which work to boost collagen production and decrease discoloration. It’s rich in linolenic (omega 3) and linleic (omega 6) essential fatty acids, and research confirms that these fatty acids help promote new skin cell growth, which helps fight against wrinkles.

Homemade Anti-Wrinkle Cream

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons organic coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons rosehip oil
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 10 drop lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops frankincence essential oil
  • 5 drops sandalwood essential oil

Instructions:

  • Place the shea butter and coconut oil in the top of a double boiler over medium heat. Stir occasionally until they melt.
  • Remove from heat and pour into a heat-safe glass jar. Place this jar in the fridge for 5-10 minutes so it can cool completely.
  • Remove from the fridge and stir in the rosehip oil, vitamin E oil, and the lavender, frankincense, and sandalwood essential oils. Mix well to combine.
  • Cover the jar and place the mixture back in the fridge so it can harden. It will soften at room temperature and harden in cold temperatures, so store it in a cool, dry place.

How To Use:

  • After you wash your face in the evening, pat it dry and then apply a light coat to your entire face and neck. You can also use it on your chest.

Occurring mostly on the hands, face, knees, and elbows, eczema is a condition that causes skin to become inflamed or itchy, often resulting in dry or cracked areas. Some people confuse eczema with allergic reactions to plants or fabric, when eczema flare-ups are typically responses to food intolerances, hormonal imbalances, or digestive problems/leaky gut syndrome.

Types Of Dermatitis That Cause Eczema

Atopic Dermatitis

The development of atopic dermatitis is typically attributed to a genetic mutation of the filaggrin protein in the skin. As the barriers between the epidermal skin cells break down, the skin becomes dehydrated and aeroallergens, such as dust mites or pet dander, can penetrate the skin. This often results in an inflamed area and itching.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

This condition causes scaly or inflamed skin areas that have oil-producing glands, such as the scalp. Eczema in babies may commonly be caused by seborrheic dermatitis.

Contact Dermatitis

This group of skin disorders results in reactions that are caused by coming in contact with causative agents. The outer layer of the skin, the dermis, is affected and the reactions can either be acute or chronic. This type of dermatitis is always itchy and may need to be remedied with salves, creams, or dietary changes.

Featured Salve Ingredients

Beeswax

This is what gives the salve its thick, bulky texture, but that’s not why it is included in this DIY remedy. Beeswax works to form a layer on the skin, keeping the oils close to the skin to promote healing. Unlike petroleum-based skin care products, beeswax allows the skin to breathe and extracts water from the air to help hydrate your skin. Additionally, beeswax contains vitamin A, a nutrient that works to remove dead skin cells from the skin.

Rosehip Seed Oil

Rosehip oil is a nutritional gold mine, containing linolenic acids that the human body cannot produce. The omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids also help to regenerate skin tissue and reduce the inflammatory flare-ups of eczema. The fatty acids are able to penetrate the skin quickly, so that the skin can quickly absorb it and begin healing.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

This essential oil is beneficial for those with eczema because it is quite gentle for topical applications. Coming from a relative of the daisy flower, helichrysum essential oil helps to promote skin cell regeneration, which can help reduce redness and inflammation.

Ingredients For Salve:

  • 1 tablespoon beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 5 tablespoons rosehip seed oil
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea buckthorn oil
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops helichrysum essential oil
  • 8 drops geranium essential oil
  • 2 drops tea tree oil

Instructions For Salve:

  • Microwave the beeswax and shea butter in a heat-safe glass bowl or measuring cup for about 30 seconds, or until melted.
  • Once it is melted, allow it to cool down before stirring in the rest of the ingredients. If you add the essential oils while it is still hot, the heat will cook off the oils. Make sure you thoroughly mix to combine all the ingredients.
  • Pour into a heatproof container, like a glass mason jar. You should only need a four-ounce jar, but you may have some extra left over. Store in a cool dry place.
  • This is a soft salve and it is easy to apply. The skin absorbs it quickly so you don’t have to worry about staining your clothes. Apply it a couple times a day to help reduce eczema.

When you hear the word “chamomile,” you immediately feel some sense of tranquility. It is a peaceful, relaxing herb that offers comfort and soothing, especially when you have a cold or sore throat. It’s incredibly versatile and has a variety of health benefits, but rarely do people use it for all that it has to offer. For instance, chamomile has the ability to reduce acne scars and provide relief from skin irritations. The antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-fungal properties make it the perfect ingredient for maintaining healthy skin.

Benefits of Chamomile

Anti-Aging

The antioxidants in chamomile help to brighten the complexion and give the skin a youthful glow, but they also work to protect the skin from free radical damage. Working to balance the skin’s pH level, chamomile helps to tighten pores, slow down the aging process, and accelerate cell and tissue regeneration.

Dark Circles Be Gone

People who throw away used bags of chamomile tea have been throwing away natural remedies for dark circles under the eyes. After drinking a cup of chamomile tea, place the tea bags in the fridge to cool them. When your eyes are feeling heavy or drained, place the chilled chamomile bags on your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Reduces Acne

Are you at war with breakouts? Acne is typically related to impurities in the blood, so we suggest cleansing the blood to improve your complexion. If a cleanse is not in the cards at the moment, you can use dried chamomile flowers to help reduce scars, fight breakouts, and fade dark spots. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties help to clear up your skin.

While chamomile is an impressive natural remedy, we would be lying if we said that it was the only star of the show for this face wash. Raw honey is an especially valuable cosmetic ingredient that works to even out skin tone, reduce acne, and heal scars. Because of the way honey is created, the natural enzyme activity and healing bacteria unite to generate powerful healing properties.

Benefits of Raw Honey

Lightening and Brightening

According to several studies, the exfoliating properties of raw honey help to reduce dark spots on your skin. Raw honey also works to remove dead skin cells, which make your skin look run-down and older. Washing your face with honey can help remove bacteria and cleanse the pores, making your skin brighter in the process.

Scar Fading

Raw honey works to accelerate the body’s natural healing process. Many people use raw honey as a spot treatment for scars, or as a face mask to reduce acne scars. More research needs to be done on the scar reducing properties, but current research points toward the fact that raw honey is beneficial for burn scars and scars from deep cuts.

For Acne

When you use honey for acne, especially acne that is on your face, it is crucial to use organic raw unfiltered honey. The reason for this is because raw honey contains healthy bacteria that work to cleanse pores, reduce inflammation and redness, and heal blemishes. Manuka honey is also beneficial for face masks or scrubs.

DIY Face Wash

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unscented castile soap
  • 75 cups filtered water
  • 2-3 tablespoons organic raw unfiltered honey
  • 8 teaspoons almond oil
  • 5 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers
  • 12 drops melaleuca essential oil
  • 12 drops lavender essential oil
  • 8 drops cold pressed rosehip seed oil
  • 1 glass foaming soap dispenser

Instructions:

  • Create a double boiler by filling a medium saucepan halfway with water and placing it over medium heat. Once the water is simmering, reduce the heat to low and place a metal bowl on the saucepan.
  • Pour the almond oil into the bowl and stir in the chamomile flowers. Let this infuse for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once the time has elapsed, remove from heat and let it cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • Strain the oil through a cheesecloth into a glass jar. Set aside.
  • Pour the water into the soap dispenser and then add the soap and infused almond oil. Screw the lid on the dispenser and shake to combine.
  • Once the bubbles have settled, pour the honey, rosehip oil, lavender essential oil, and melaleuca essential oil into the soap dispenser.
  • Tighten the lid, give it a shake, and dispense a foam dollop into your hand to cleanse your face after all that hard work.

Lack of sleep or irregular sleep patterns can make the skin under your eyes look puffy, saggy, or incredibly dark. Sometimes your eyes can look this way even if you are sleeping like a log every night. Things like stress, poor diet, anxiety, and nutritional deficiencies can also contribute to the way your eye area looks. Lucky for you, we found an intensive eye care cream that works wonders.

Store bought eye creams can contain a lot of harmful ingredients that may damage your skin. Additionally, using eye creams, or any skincare products with chemicals, can negatively affect your internal organs. The chemicals are absorbed by your skin and enter your body, which only creates more toxic build-up in various organs and systems. This homemade eye cream contains natural ingredients that work to hydrate your skin and naturally decrease dark circles. Let’s explore two of the awesome ingredients.

Geranium Essential Oil

Commonly used in aromatherapy, geranium essential oil has been used to promote healthy skin for thousands of years. In more recent years, people have used geranium oil to alleviate anxiety, reduce inflammation, and balance hormones. It contains astringent properties, which help to minimize wrinkles by tightening facial skin. Additionally, geranium oil works to stop bacteria from growing on the skin.

Shea Butter

Dark circles under the eyes typically indicate that the skin lacks moisture and is in desperate need of hydration. High quality Shea butter contains essential fatty acids and vitamins that help to brighten the skin under the eyes, resulting in an even tone. Shea butter also contains a large amount of vitamin E, which helps to restore skin elasticity and works to repair any skin damage.

Ingredients For Eye Cream:

  • 2 tablespoons Shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon beeswax
  • 5 teaspoons rosehip oil
  • 4 drops geranium essential oil

Instructions:

  • Place all of the ingredients, except the rosehip and geranium oils, in a heat-safe glass measuring cup.
  • Fill a small saucepan with water and place the measuring cup containing the ingredients in the water. Make sure no water gets in the cup.
  • Warm this over medium heat for about six minutes, stirring the mixture occasionally until everything is melted.
  • Remove from the heat and carefully remove the cup from the water. Let this cool for about five minutes before adding the rosehip and geranium oils. Stir well.
  • Transfer this mixture into a glass jar with a lid and use a thumbnail size amount under each eye every night. Store with the lid on the jar in a cool, dry place.
