]]>

The flu, much like a wildfire, spreads very easily. All it needs is a little bit of wind, right? According to a 2023 study that involved the 2021 to 2022 flu season, you had a 50% chance of contracting the virus. If you or someone you know is sick, then, how long does the contagious period last? Although this is a difficult question to answer precisely, health experts have several guidelines that may help stop the spread.

How Does The Flu Spread?

The flu is a viral respiratory illness that primarily spreads via close contact with an infected person. Infected flu patients expel germ-filled droplets when they cough, sneeze, or talk. When those droplets land in the mouth or nose of another person, that person is at risk of becoming infected. The droplets can also land on surfaces, such as doorknobs, TV remotes, or keyboards, which a healthy person can touch and then touch their mouth, eyes, or nose, thereby causing infection.

You cannot always avoid these droplets when you are around someone with the flu. You can, however, take cautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following tips to avoid spreading the flu:

 • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and then throw that tissues away
 • Clean and disinfect surfaces that may be contaminated (especially high-touch surfaces)
 • Avoid close contact with sick people, and limit contact with others when you are sick
 • Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever subsides
 • Avoid touching your nose, eyes, and mouth as much as possible
 • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you don’t have access to soap and water

How Long Does The Flu Last?

Infected with the flu? Well, it can last a few days or a couple weeks. More often than not, people who decided to get a flu shot will get over infection quicker than people who did not get vaccinated. Flu symptoms, such as body aches, fever, or chills, typically come on quickly and subside slowly. According to health experts, the average time between exposure to the virus and the appearance of symptoms is two days.

Statistically, days two through four are the worst, regarding severity of symptoms. You will know that you are nearing the end of your flu when your fever is down and you no longer feel body aches. At that point, the virus is controlled, but coughing, runny nose, and fatigue can stick around for a little while after that. You may even experience some flu dizziness that can last for a couple days or weeks, depending on the cause.

How Long Is The Flu Contagious?

Typically, you are most contagious during the first three days of sickness, according to the CDC. That said, you are likely contagious for a day before the onset of symptoms and several more once they subside. That means an infected person can spread the flu one day before they experience symptoms. You can spread it and not know it, especially if you did not know that the person you encountered was infected with the flu.

You are the most contagious when your symptoms peak, which is days two through four. It’s possible that you can continue to spread the virus until symptoms go away completely, though. Basically, you are no longer contagious once your symptoms are gone entirely. You can expedite your recovery through various alternative remedies or over-the-counter (OTC) flu medications. Just keep in mind that those OTCs that only lower fever will not help you get over your sickness faster or make you less contagious. They only make you more comfortable and able to deal with symptoms.

A sore throat can be very uncomfortable and, more than anything, you want it to go away before the symptoms start to get worse. The primary symptoms of a sore throat are pain and irritation, especially when swallowing. When the immune system encounters bacteria or viruses, it inflames the mucous membranes in the throat.

What Causes A Sore Throat?

A sore throat involves scratchiness, pain, or irritation in the throat. It is usually attributed to a viral infection, such as a cold or flu, and it usually resolves on its own. Strep throat, however, is a less common type of sore throat that requires treatment with antibiotics to prevent serious complications. Typically, bacterial infections do not cause sore throats as much as viral infections do.

This article details eight natural remedies that may help reduce pain associated with sore throat. Possible remedies include honey, lemon water, peppermint tea, herbs, and more. Continue reading to see which remedy is best for you.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates prescribed a combo of honey and apple cider vinegar, oxymel, to help treat flu symptoms, including sore throat. Apple cider vinegar is a natural health tonic that is a common ingredient in various alternative medicinal remedies. The active ingredient is acetic acid, which works to fight bacteria. Drink one cup of warm water mixed with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Don’t just take shots of apple cider vinegar, as that can lead to acid reflux

Gargle With Salt Water

Gargling with salt water is a classic remedy for relieving sore throat pain. The salt works to pull water out of the throat tissues, which may help reduce swelling. It may also help to kill harmful microbes in the throat. Combine one cup of warm water with one teaspoon of salt and stir to dissolve before gargling. Try to gargle for 30 seconds once per hour.

Licorice Root

Licorice root exhibits similar properties to aspirin in that it may help reduce sore throat pain. It also offers antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. At this time, there isn’t a lot of research about how licorice root may relieve sore throat pain. One older study, however, found that gargling with licorice water before surgery reduced the risk of getting a sore throat by 50%, compared to gargling with standard sugar water.

Ginger Tea

Ginger is an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory spice that works to soothe an upset stomach and relieve throat pain. Some laboratory studies found that ginger extract may kill certain viruses and bacteria that cause respiratory illnesses. Ginger may also reduce inflammation in tuberculosis patients. Although ginger tea is readily available in most grocery stores, you can easily make your own with boiling water, raw ginger root, a squeeze of lemon, and some honey for sweetness.

Marshmallow Root

Throughout history, people have used extracts from the marshmallow plant to treat sore throats. The root contains mucilage, a gelatin-like substance that lubricates and coats the throat after you swallow it. According to research, lozenges containing marshmallow root were effective at soothing dry cough in animals. You can make marshmallow root-infused water by placing one ounce of marshmallow root in a cheesecloth inside a bottle with one liter of cold water.

Honey

Typically used to sweeten herbal teas, honey may help soothe a sore throat on its own. Honey contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties that may help combat viruses or bacteria. It is especially effective when you combine it with warm water and apple cider vinegar. For the best results, opt for raw organic honey or Manuka honey, as those are the purest forms.

Coconut Oil

What is this popular skin and hair care ingredient doing on a list of ingredients that help remedy sore throat? Well, some studies suggest that coconut oil may fight infection and reduce inflammation in exposed areas. Coconut oil works to lubricate mucous membranes in the throat, which may provide mild relief from irritation. Add a spoonful of coconut oil to hot tea, soup, or put a spoonful in your mouth and allow it to melt and coat the throat.

Lemon Water

Not only is lemon water a refreshing beverage, but it may also reduce throat pain that occurs during a cold or flu. Lemons are naturally rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, which work to fight inflammation and oxidative stress. Lemon also helps to increase the amount of saliva that the body produces, which can help keep the throat lubricated. Maximize the benefits of lemon water by combining lemon with warm water and a little honey.

It’s time to refresh your senses with a deliciously customizable DIY body wash. Not only does it help you get squeaky clean, but it is also free of toxins! Certain bottled soaps or skin and hair care products can contain various parabens, dyes, and other chemicals that can harm the skin and penetrate into the body. If you are conscious about what you put on your skin, then you click on the right article!

Most popular body wash brands contain artificial colors and fragrances, which can cause allergies, endocrine disruption, and immunotoxicity. The term “fragrance” can hide between 10 to 50 chemicals, most of which do not have to be disclosed. The reason for that is because they are considered trade secrets under the U.S. Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. In a 2009 study, an expert on pollutant exposures and related health effects noted that 30.5% of the U.S. population reported skin irritation or headaches when exposed to scented products. Although more brands have started to list all of the ingredients in their products, many chemicals remain hidden to the masses.

The Body Wash Ingredients

Before you get all of your ingredients together, make sure that you grab a bottle for your soap. You can reuse an old bottle of body wash if you want, but it is better to use amber glass, as this recipe contains essential oils. Dark glass helps essential oils retain their health benefits, due to reduced UV exposure. Like other body wash recipes that we have published, this one contains liquid castile soap. Because we recently described the benefits of castile soap (click here for recent post), we will not detail the benefits. Instead, you can read about the benefits of other ingredients below.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is an excellent carrier oil that is beneficial for all skin and hair types. Research has shown that hand cream containing almond oil can help relieve hand dermatitis. Another study found that almond oil was able to relieve symptoms, such as itchy skin, redness, burning, and stinging. Some people like to use almond oil as a daily moisturizer because it helps to improve complexion and skin tone. Thanks to the antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, almond oil may benefit people with acne-prone skin. It works to reduce redness and inflammation, while also helping to cleanse pores.

Orange Essential Oil

Citrus essential oils, such as orange essential oil, are praised in the beauty world because they can be an alternative to vitamin C serums. When used in aromatherapy, orange essential oil helps to reduce stress or improve mood. In topical uses, orange essential oil may help to relieve pain or inflammation and improve acne. Orange essential oil may also increase blood flow, which is why it is used by massage therapists. It may also help to promote clarity, radiance, and smoothness, which helps to reduce signs of uncomfortable skin conditions.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Well regarded for its healing properties, peppermint essential oil is a great natural alternative to some traditional remedies. If you dilute it properly, you can apply it to the skin. It is highly concentrated, so applying it without dilution can cause irritation or allergic reaction. That’s the case for most essential oils, by the way. Peppermint essential oil contains menthol, which is the active compound that can make the skin feel energized and refreshed. It helps to promote circulation and stimulate the skin, giving it a youthful glow. It may also work to open up clogged pores and better manage your acne.

DIY Citrus Mint Body Wash

Ingredients:

 • 3 tablespoons almond oil
 • 1.5 cups liquid castile soap
 • 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
 • 20 drops peppermint essential oil
 • 35 drops orange essential oil

Instructions:

 • Pour all of the ingredients into a glass bottle, screw on the pump top, and shake well to combine.
 • Make sure to shake well before each use. Please enjoy.

The post 5 Tips For Eating And Staying Healthy On Vacation appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

For whatever reason, being on vacation means abandoning all of your knowledge about health. That may not be true for everyone, but it is for a lot of people. Many people think of vacation like a free pass on their diet, a chance to enjoy dessert for breakfast or cheeseburgers and such at will. Perhaps you kick back by the pool and enjoy a variety of cocktails before building sandcastles at the nearby beach.

Depending on where you travel, staying healthy on vacation can prove to be a challenge. Sometimes, you may have the intention to maintain your healthy diet, but your destination doesn’t offer the right foods that cater to your eating habits. Plus, finding a healthy place to eat may be the last thing on your mind after touring a museum, doing a hike, or walking for hours through the city streets

At the end of the day, though, enjoying real food, not fried food or burgers, fuels the body and provides it with the necessary nutrients it needs to function optimally. Naturally, you should indulge while traveling, especially if the place you visit is known for certain specialities. Be a wide-eyed tourist if you see a flaky croissant in Paris, France, or a big plate of drunken noodles in Bangkok, Thailand. You will find your stride, but do your best to consume a balanced diet during your travels. Hopefully, the following tips will help you stay healthy on vacation.

Pretend That You Are Eating At Home

Vacation is not a time to disregard your normal eating habits and budget constraints. It’s very easy to overspend on vacation, especially if you are traveling in a place where the U.S. dollar is not as strong as the local currency. When booking a trip, it can be beneficial to try and find a place to stay that has a kitchen or kitchenette. By shopping at local grocery stores and pre-making food, you can save a little money and eat foods that comply with your diet. You should eat out and try different restaurants, but preparing some meals, especially breakfast, can help start your days off right.

Plan Ahead

If you have a little kitchen at your AirBnb or vacation rental, consider loading up on some healthy snacks. That is a pro traveler’s tip because packing some local fruit, in addition to bars you bring from home, can save you from eating unhealthy snacks between meals. If you like to use meal planning with apps and such, you can use them to plan meals around regional food at your destination. That works whether you are traveling regionally or internationally. If you drive to your destination, though, you have a better chance of planning your meals. You can bring exactly what you need in order to prepare meals during your vacation!

Make Sure Your Snacks Are Health

Speaking of planning ahead, make sure you are covered in the snack department. Whether you have a six-hour car ride or a 10-hour flight, having a variety of healthy, non-perishable snacks can make the difference in your traveling experience. Not only that, but packing snacks can save you money! You don’t have to stop at convenience stores or gas stations to pick up chips or processed cereals and pastries. Having healthy snacks can also reduce your likelihood of feeling terrible while traveling. Great snacks to bring include:

 • Trail mix (without candy or chocolate pieces)
 • Bananas
 • Apples
 • Packets of almond butter, peanut butter, or cashew butter (to go with your apples)
 • Reusable, insulated water bottles to hold smoothies, iced herbal teas, and water
 • Homemade energy bites (or healthy protein bars)

Pack The Remedies

Staying healthy while on vacation is just about keeping your diet in check. Bug bites, sunburns, earaches, and more can happen just as much or more on vacation as they do at home. If you have specific remedies for these things, make sure to pack them! It can be beneficial to have the following while traveling:

 • Healing salve (for rashes, stings, and bug bites)
 • Hand sanitizer (helpful in many situations)
 • Natural bug spray
 • Lots of vitamin C (in addition to low-sugar electrolyte powders)
 • Sunburn remedies
 • Ear infection remedies
 • Natural sunscreen

Keep Stress Levels Down

The last piece of the puzzle is to keep your mental health in check while traveling. It is easy to experience a burnout and spiral out of control, but doing small things can bring you back to center. Sure, the right foods and natural remedies can keep you healthy, but too much stress can derail your health. Take note of how your body feels on vacation and consider experimenting with a few simple stress-relieving techniques. You can engage in different breathing exercises, practice guided meditation, or do a couple sun salutations and other yoga poses. Even some morning and evening stretching can bring stress levels down, in addition to preparing you for walking or other vacation activities.

Achieving smooth, hydrated skin does not have to be a lifelong journey. You can accomplish this goal if you give your skin the right ingredients, both inside and out. That means that you eat the right foods that benefit your skin from the inside and apply a series of creams, salves, butters, masks, and more topically to also boost skin health. Selecting the right products is often where people find the most difficulty, though.

This super green spirulina face mask can help hydrate, soothe, and calm your facial skin. It contains spirulina powder, aloe vera gel, and Manuka honey, all of which deeply nourish the skin. Although spirulina receives a lot of praise for supplying the body with many nutrients, it doesn’t get enough attention for topical use. Spirulina benefits the skin in the following ways:

 • Helps the skin retain moisture
 • Helps eliminate bad bacteria that may cause acne
 • Provides the skin with beneficial antioxidant compounds
 • Contains chlorophyll, which is very cleansing
 • Helps exfoliate skin

How Does Spirulina Benefit The Skin?

According to a study from 2020, applying a cream containing spirulina to the skin could be a potential acne treatment. The reason for this is because spirulina exhibits powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Spirulina may even be a better option than local antibiotic therapy, due to fewer side effects and zero antibiotic resistance.

A separate study from 2020 confirmed that an ointment containing spirulina was effective at improving eczema symptoms when applied topically two times daily, three times per week. Another study found that spirulina helped reduce the presence of psoriasis in mice. The study suggests that spirulina could potentially advance as a natural pharmaceutical for psoriasis treatment.

How Does Manuka Honey Benefit The Skin?

Manuka honey is a semi-opaque honey made from the nectar of the Manuka plant, which is native to New Zealand. This unique honey is highly praised for its valuable antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Manuka honey also has higher pH and sugar content than other honey varieties, which may contribute to the impressive antibacterial activity.

The polyphenols in Manuka honey may help block the effects of damaging external factors, such as sun exposure and environmental pollutants, which helps delay the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Manuka honey also boasts emollient and humectant properties. As a quick refresher, emollients fill the spaces between skin cells to promote softer skin, while humectants draw moisture from the air into the skin to boost hydration

How Does Aloe Vera Benefit The Skin?

Aloe vera is one of the most popular herbal remedies for topical skin conditions. The gel-like components of the aloe plant have been known to remedy a variety of ailments, including burns, sunburns, and minor cuts and scrapes. The skin can easily absorb aloe vera gel, making it ideal for oily skin. That said, it may be effective at soothing dry skin because it helps to seal moisture into the skin. Aloe vera gel also helps to boost collagen production and fight bacteria. Lastly, aloe vera gel may help alleviate seborrheic dermatitis, alleviating the itchiness that is common with this condition.

Spirulina Face Mask

Ingredients:

 • 1/2 tablespoon Manuka honey
 • 1/2 tablespoon aloe vera gel
 • 1 teaspoon spirulina powder

Instructions:

 • Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and mix well.
 • Apply to a clean face and leave on for 15-20 minutes.
 • Rinse with warm water and pat your face dry. Follow up with a natural moisturizer.

Current research is limited, but some studies indicate that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for people with restless leg syndrome.

The post Can Acupuncture Help Restless Leg Syndrome? appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Restless leg syndrome, which is a neurological condition that causes the uncontrollable urge to move your legs, affects about 10% of Americans. It is common to experience this urge in an uncomfortable situation because moving eases tension temporarily. Most people tend to experience this restlessness in the morning or evening hours. It can begin at any age and usually worsens with age.

It is possible to manage restless leg syndrome with some self-care methods and alternative remedies, one of which is acupuncture. Acupuncture is the practice of puncturing the skin with tiny needles at specific anatomical points in the body. Acupuncturists use this integrative medicine to help relieve joint pain, muscle soreness, and improve energy flow within the body. Although acupuncture is not a scientifically-proven treatment for restless leg syndrome, some research indicates that it may benefit the condition.

Can Acupuncture Reduce Symptoms Of Restless Leg Syndrome?

Existing research indicates that some people with restless leg syndrome benefit from acupuncture treatment. The primary benefits include improved sleep quality, relief of pain and discomfort, and reduced restless leg sensations. Health experts consider acupuncture to be an alternative or complementary treatment for restless leg syndrome.

A 2021 review of studies found that acupuncture was an effective treatment for people with restless leg syndrome. That review called for more high quality studies to continue the research on the benefits of acupuncture. A 2023 study analyzed data collected between 2007 and 2022. Researchers noted that participants with restless leg syndrome who received acupuncture experienced significant improvements in sleep quality and other factors.

Are There Drawbacks Of Acupuncture For Restless Leg Syndrome?

At this time, there is not enough scientifically-backed evidence to support acupuncture as a treatment option for restless leg syndrome. It does provide benefits, but major U.S. medical institutions don’t back it as a treatment. That’s why most insurance providers don’t cover acupuncture for restless leg syndrome. They may cover it for other conditions with more research, though.

That ultimately means that people with restless leg syndrome who want to experiment with acupuncture will have to pay out of pocket. Depending on where you live, a licensed practitioner is not always easy to find. Some metropolitan areas, however, offer a plethora of acupuncturists, or other alternative medicine professionals that offer similar services. If you decide to try the treatment, you may experience mild soreness, which is temporary. To minimize potential risks, see a licensed professional.

Acupuncture Pressure Points For Restless Legs

If you do not like needles, perhaps you can experiment with acupressure massage points. You can try stimulating the following pressure points with your hands or gua sha stones. Those pressure points are:

 • Xuhai (SP10): This point is located on the back of your inner thigh about two inches above the kneecap.
 • Zusanli (ST36): You’ll find this point about two inches below the front of your kneecap and about a half inch toward the inside of the calf.
 • Shenshu (BL23): You can find this point on either side of your lumbar vertebra on your back, at the midpoint between the bottom of your ribs and belly button.
 • Chenshan (BL57): This point is at the bottom of the calf muscle in the depression that forms when you point your toes.
 • Taixi (KD3): This point is located between the Achilles tendon and ankle bone on the inside of the leg.
 • Sanyinjiao (SP6): This point is on the inside of your leg roughly two inches above the ankle bone.

Acupuncture is a healing practice that many people use as an alternative remedy for pain management. Although it may not treat restless leg syndrome, it may help relieve symptoms. Existing research is promising, but more research is necessary to get a better understanding of its efficacy as a treatment option.

The nose is susceptible to dryness in both summer and winter weather. Both seasons, although they are literally hot and cold, can have severe dry weather, which is not kind on your nose. The lack of humidity, which is more common in dry, desert areas in summer, can dehydrate the mucous membranes in the nostrils. Indoor, air-conditioned spaces can also cause dryness.

Ever notice that you feel congested after being in dry heat and then transitioning to a cold indoor space? Dry air can make you feel like you have nose crustiness, or even dry boogers. Mucus plays an integral role in the body, protecting it from viruses and bacteria. Mucus is sticky, which helps to trap foreign particles, which the body then removes. Additionally, mucus contains antibacterial properties that help fight infection.

Beyond dry weather, vaping, smoking, and certain medications may cause nasal dryness. As if there weren’t enough reasons to quit smoking! Now, we’ll explain a variety of remedies that may help prevent your nose from drying out.

Don’t Forget To Hydrate

Drinking water throughout the day can help you avoid dehydration, which is especially important in the summer heat. Keep a reusable water bottle on hand and don’t forget to keep filling it up. In addition to hydrating your organs and systems, water also helps to keep the nostrils moist. Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day to optimally hydrate. If you weigh 180 pounds and divide that by two to get 90, aim to drink 90 ounces of water per day.

Take A Hot Shower Or Bath

A steamy hot shower or bath in the middle of summer may not sound like the most appetizing activity, but it may help relieve nasal dryness. The steam may temporarily relieve a dry or itchy nose. You can even use homemade shower melts to help relieve congestion. Consider adding a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil to your bath to help you breathe better.

Use A Humidifier

Some people have a humidifier installed in their home, so they can monitor humidity levels at all times. You can also use a portable humidifier to introduce moisture into a room in your home. This is especially beneficial if you tend to experience a dry nose at night. That may help you avoid allergies, illness, or overall stuffiness while you sleep. If you are traveling, humidify the space by hanging wet towels in various places around the room.

Try Saline Sprays

A nasal saline spray can help keep your nostrils nice and moist. How often you’ll need to use one of these sprays will depend on the person, and the level of nasal dryness. Usually, you use a spray twice a day, or once every four to six hours. If you find that you have to use nasal sprays all the time, consider a gel, which lasts longer. A saline gel is preferable to olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, or petroleum jelly, which some people try with cotton swabs. You don’t want to inhale those home-based remedies into your lungs, though.

Experiment With Damp Cloths Or Wipes

Sometimes, all you need is to apply a warm, wet washcloth to your face to help moisten the nasal passageways. You can do this several times a day to provide relief, according to the National Library of Medicine. You can even use a wet wipe or baby wipe to help moisten the inside of your nose.

Use A Nasal Rinse

You may be familiar with a Neti pot if you have a cold and want to get rid of congestion. This form of nasal irrigation may also help relieve a dry nose. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Neti pots use a saline solution to moisten the nasal passages, which are exposed to dry air. Make sure to read the instructions before you rinse out your nostrils. Neti pot sells its own saline solution, but you can also make your own with distilled water, baking soda, and salt.

Just like anything in life, there is no magic, cure-all solution to immediately fix feelings of nausea. Your first course of action is to determine the cause of the problem. That can make it easier to choose the right natural remedy. Even if you don’t fully know why your stomach is upset, the natural remedies in this article may still provide relief. A few common causes of nausea are detailed below.

Motion Sickness

Some people are very susceptible to motion sickness, no matter the mode of transportation. If you are traveling by car, get out for some fresh air to help relieve nausea. You can’t necessarily roll down the window on a plane or train, though. Motion sickness occurs when the inner ear, brain, and eyes receive mixed signals and cannot properly communicate with each other. You experience nausea as a result.

Pregnancy Nausea

It’s likely that you cannot wait to meet your bun in the oven, but that cute baby can cause some serious nausea. Pregnant women may experience morning sickness during the first trimester. It usually goes away after the early stages of pregnancy, but some women can experience it throughout all three trimesters.

Cancer Drugs

Patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation, and conventional cancer treatments tend to get nauseous. These drugs are very hard on the body and can affect certain parts of the brain that control vomiting. Experts state that chemo drugs may irritate the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. Nearly 80% of chemo patients experience nausea.

Food Poisoning

Sometimes, you just know when food poisoning is gonna hit. Something you ate was off, but it can also creep up out of nowhere. Suffice to say that food poisoning is no fun and it can cause serious nausea, indigestion, and vomiting. It occurs when you ingest harmful microbes, viruses, bacteria, or certain chemicals.

Once you know the cause of your nausea, you can have an easier time choosing the right remedy. Below, you’ll find five natural remedies to relieve nausea.

Essential Oils

There are various essential oils that may help relieve nausea. Peppermint essential oil is one of the most popular oils for nausea relief, but lemon is also helpful, especially during pregnancy. These oils have antimicrobial properties that work to fight harmful pathogens when you inhale their aromas. A 2021 study involved cancer patients who applied peppermint oil below their noses for nausea relief. A separate controlled group only used anti-nausea medication. The peppermint group experienced less nausea and vomiting than the other group.

Ginger

Whether you have a sore throat, nausea, or upset stomach, ginger may be the right natural remedy for the job. Ginger tea, ginger chews, and fresh ginger all work well at relieving various types of nausea, including pregnancy nausea. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends ginger as a safe alternative to nausea drugs in pregnancy. Some studies have found that ginger is more effective at relieving nausea than dimenhydrinate, an antiemetic drug.

Move It (If You Can)

If you experience nausea from a stomach ache or overeating, exercise may help. A gentle workout, such as yoga or walking, increases circulation to your muscles and organs, including the ones that aid digestion. That boost of circulation may help improve digestion, which can then help relieve nausea. Just make sure to avoid bending over, as that will not feel good.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture and acupressure work their magic by activating energy meridians in the body. During an acupuncture appointment, the acupuncturist administers thin needles to specific points in the body. One of the most popular nausea pressure points is on the hand, between the thumb and index finger. If you do not want to engage in acupuncture, you can apply pressure in this area for three to four minutes per side and repeat as needed. Sea Bands may also work to relieve nausea, as they are bracelets that apply pressure to an anti-nausea point on the inside of the wrist.

Peppermint Tea

Similar to peppermint essential oil, peppermint tea may help ease nausea. It is safe to drink, even for children, and may also help relieve digestive problems, such as gas, bloating, or irritable bowel syndrome. If you have acid reflux, try not to consume a lot of mint, though, as it can relax the esophageal sphincter and worsen symptoms.

Everyone has their day in the sun during summer. Some people are less fortunate than others and go home looking like freshly boiled lobsters. You’ve seen that bright red skin that stands out from 100 feet away. Although sun exposure is beneficial, sunburn is not. When the skin is burnt to a bright red, you need immediate relief. The soothing sunburn ice cubes in this article can help promote faster healing and provide relief.

As a quick note, it’s important for everyone to lather up with a skin-safe sunscreen when going out in the sun. If you plan to stay in the sun for long periods of time, make sure to seek shade when possible, hydrate all day long, and reapply sunscreen every couple hours. That may not seem like the most fun thing to remember, but it can help keep your skin safe. For when you let yourself cook a little longer in the direct sunlight and get burnt, you will need to soothe the skin immediately.

Sunburn Soothing Ice Cubes

There are many cooling sprays, after sun gels, lotions, and other natural remedies that can help soothe sunburns. They only last for so long in the fridge before they go bad, though. They are easy to make, but you still have to spend the time to prepare them. Why not have something that won’t go bad and is always cooling and soothing?

Aloe vera is a great plant to have at your house. It is a low-maintenance succulent and the gel inside the plant has soothing properties that can help accelerate the recovery of sunburns. Researchers note that aloe vera contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe inflamed skin.

Regarding the soothing ice cubes, many experts do not recommend placing ice on sunburns. The reason for this is because the cold acts as a vasoconstrictor, which reduces blood flow to the area and slows healing time. If you add vasodilating herbs to the ice cubes, though, they can help increase blood flow and solve that issue. Plus, you get the cooling relief from the frozen cubes.

Comfrey

This plant stimulates tissue repair and works to help the body form healthy skin cells. It is also beneficial for sore joints and damaged skin. Studies have shown that comfrey can help soothe and heal damaged skin. And just like marshmallow root, which is also in these soothing sunburn cubes, comfrey is a demulcent that helps provide a protective barrier over tissues

Lavender

Lavender is an all-around soothing herb that is especially gentle on the skin. It lends itself to a variety of DIY skin care products, so a lot of DIY enthusiasts keep lavender essential oil on hand. Lavender may help disinfect wounds and cuts and acts as an analgesic to soothe pain. It is frequently applied to burns to help soothe the skin and promote faster healing. Lavender also helps to increase circulation to the skin, which accelerates recovery time.

Calendula

Calendula is very similar to lavender, in that it is a great all-around herb. It is very gentle and great for all skin types. Many studies confirm that it can help soothe inflammation and reduce the severity of cuts, burns, sunburns, rashes, and cuts. Calendula may also help move lymphatic fluid and improve blood circulation.

Marshmallow

Slippery marshmallow works to coat and cool irritated skin, while simultaneously adding moisture. The roots, flowers, and leaves of marshmallow root all exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. You can use leaves and flowers for the cubes (below) or you can use the roots.

Peppermint

Peppermint has a natural cooling effect, making it a great addition to soothing sunburn cubes. The mint plant is also a vasodilator, which stimulates circulation and helps create a warming feeling. If you combine mint with cool or cold ingredients, it feels refreshing on the skin.

Herbal Ice Cubes To Soothe Sunburns

Ingredients:

 • 2 cups water
 • 1 tablespoon each: lavender flowers, comfrey leaf, peppermint leaf, marshmallow root, and calendula flowers
 • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel

Instructions:

 • Pour the water into a small pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
 • Add the herbs to the pot, cover with a lid, and remove from heat. Allow the herbs to steam for 15 minutes.
 • Strain the herbs out, which will leave you with about one and three-quarter cups of tea. Put that herbal tea in the fridge to cool.
 • Once the herbal tea is no longer hot, add the aloe vera gel and stir to combine. Pour this mixture into ice cube trays and freeze.
 • Pop out an ice cube after coming home with a sunburn and apply it to the affected area. You can wrap the ice cube in a paper towel if you need to.

You don’t have to have a specific hair type or style to have healthy hair. No matter if your hair is long, short, curly, straight, or anything in between, the goal is always for it to look as good as possible. The only problem is that, if you are like most people, you get in your own way without realizing it.

If there is a goal to this article, besides helping you achieve healthier hair, it is to inform you about things you shouldn’t do that sabotage hair health. With so much information at your fingertips, there is no reason to be clueless about hair care. You clicked on the right article for achieving beautiful hair. Continue reading to learn how to do that!

Don’t Be Afraid Of Natural Products

Natural products are not hair care products that say “natural” on the label or bottle. You’d be surprised to learn that a lot of these “natural” products are not as natural as they claim to be. Natural products, such as castor oil or coconut oil, are age-old remedies that contribute to luscious, beautiful hair. These products help nourish your hair and scalp without harsh chemicals getting in the way. You can even mix these products with other natural products to make DIY hair masks

Give Your Scalp A Massage

If you want healthier hair, you need to give your scalp some love. Not only is massaging the scalp very relaxing, but it also works to stimulate blood flow, which encourages healthy hair growth. If you want to really pamper your scalp, enhance the scalp massage with a nourishing scrub. A scrub can help remove any grime or product buildup that can get in the way of healthy growth.

Don’t Wash Your Hair Every Day

A common misconception is that you need to wash your hair every day in order for it to be healthy. Washing your hair daily can strip hair strands of their natural oils and dry out the scalp. Plus, harsh chemicals in hair care products (provided you use unnatural products) are not ideal for daily use. Natural oils can keep your hair and scalp healthy, so try to wash your hair every second or third day to see if that helps. It may take a couple weeks for your hair to be on board with this process, but it will start to adjust to the change.

Take Your Vitamins

Not every hair vitamin that advertises hair growth benefits delivers on that promise. There are, however, specific vitamins that have a positive influence on hair health. Iron helps the body use protein for hair growth more efficiently, while zinc works to repair damaged hair and helps maintain sebaceous gland function on the scalp. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to fight oxidative stress, which can interfere with healthy hair growth. Biotin helps the body turn food into energy, but it also breaks down protein into amino acids that the hair needs for optimal growth.

Hair Treatments Are Your Friend

Treatments, especially with natural products, can help your hair in myriad ways. The goal of a hair treatment is to add moisture to your hair, which is great if your hair is prone to drying out from heat styling or coloring. Some treatments to maintain color can dry out your hair as well, so make sure to give your hair proper, nourishing treatment to maintain healthy moisture levels.

Get Regular Haircuts

How can you achieve beautiful hair if you cut it all the time? Well, if you damage your hair, it will continue to stay there. Going in for a trim can help you avoid split ends, and the hairdresser can help point out any problem areas. Failure to address split ends can cause them to rise higher up the hair, which can result in the need to get more haircuts the next time you head to the salon. Generally speaking, the recommendation is to visit the salon every six weeks for a short trim.

Get Condition-Specific

If you want to keep your hair soft, shiny, and manageable, you have to condition after your shampoo. Make sure that you comb the conditioner through your hair to evenly distribute it and leave it in for two to three minutes before rinsing out. Just like shampooing, though, not everyone needs to condition every time they wash their hair. Experiment to find what works best for you and continue down that path!
