What smells do you think of when you think of fall? Pumpkin spice, naturally! You are most likely thinking of the spices in pumpkin spice mix, which include cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg, among a few others. You probably think of warm apples and maple leaves as well. The simmer pot recipe in this article ties in all of those scents to make your home smell like a cozy, fall evening.

What Is A Simmer Pot?

Simply put, a simmer pot is an assortment of ingredients that you combine together in water inside a large pot over medium-low heat to simmer for several hours. While the pot is simmering, the ingredients release a concentrated aroma into the air, filling your house with good smells. You know how a pot of soup can fill the home with a tasty aroma? Well, the same thing happens with a simmer pot. It’s a much healthier version of an air freshener spray or plug-in, many of which contain harmful chemicals.

Scent is integral to setting the ambiance and creating a specific mood. An interior designer makes sure to decorate well and set lighting to establish the right feel and atmosphere, right? Well, you can set the fall mood in your home by filling it with the aroma from a fall simmer pot.

Why You’ll Love This Simmer Pot

If you visit home stores, or almost any store for that matter, during the holidays, you probably see a lot of holiday-themed candles. Sugar cookie delight, apple cider, and cinnamon pine cones are all popular candle scents. Although candles are great, there is something more homey about creating your own scent with natural ingredients. Plus, you know that the simmer pot will not release any harsh chemicals or faux fragrances into the air.

What you will smell is a delightfully warm scent that lasts for a couple days. You can warm this simmer pot recipe for one day and wake up still smelling that intoxicating fall scent the following day.

How To Make A Simmer Pot

The good news about simmer pots is that you can be very creative with your ingredient blends. If you enjoy more cloves than cinnamon sticks, use more of them! Having control over the amount of each ingredient allows you to have certain scents be more dominant than others. Alternatively, you can keep an even measurement for ingredients to create a uniquely cohesive and balanced simmer pot aroma. The exact measurements we used, including instructions, are detailed below.

DIY Fall Simmer Pot

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 4 star anise
  • 9 whole cloves
  • 1 sprig rosemary

Instructions:

  • Fill a medium-sized pot halfway with water and place it over medium heat.
  • Add the ingredients to the pot once the water starts to warm up. Stir in the ingredients and bring the liquid to a simmer (about five to 10 minutes).
  • Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for at least two hours. Keep an eye on the water level and add more if it starts to get too low.
  • Remove from heat and leave uncovered for hours to let the aroma fill your home.

As the days get a little shorter and the air becomes slightly cooler, you need to comfort the soul with healthy and delicious breakfasts. A smoothie that doesn’t contain banana? Is this real life? Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to include bananas in every smoothie you make. Bananas add creaminess to smoothies, but they aren’t necessary to create a delicious and exciting concoction. This cranberry apple pecan smoothie, for example, if full of antioxidants, minerals, fruity flavors, and gentle spices that embody the fall season.

Smoothies are great to enjoy no matter what season it is. Fall provides an excellent selection of spices, fruits, vegetables, and more, making it easy to concoct new smoothie recipes. This fall smoothie uses fresh cranberries, which are only available in grocery stores for a limited time. They are excellent sources of antioxidants and provide calcium, potassium, fiber, and vitamins C and E. Some studies suggest that the antioxidant activity in cranberries positively affects 17 types of cancer, including lung, brain, breast, and cervical cancers. Researchers need more evidence to fully understand the relationship between cranberries and cancer prevention, though.

Now, cranberries aren’t the only seasonal start of this fall smoothie. Apples are readily available in the fall, with many varieties showing up at local grocery stores. We recommend Honeycrisp apples for this smoothie because they offer a juicy yet crisp sweetness. Additionally, this smoothie contains raw pecans, ground cinnamon, and ground ginger, so you’ll get your daily dose of fall, even more so than drinking a pumpkin spice latte!

Pumpkin spice is in the air, which means fall is in full swing. You cannot go out without seeing pumpkin spice! From coffee creamers and baked treats to lattes and more, pumpkin spice is in nearly everything. Not only is pumpkin spice or pumpkin pie glorious, but it is also warming, comforting, and tasty. And the great thing about this recipe is that you can enjoy it without the added sugars and excess calories.

Pumpkin puree, not sugary pumpkin pie filling, is highly nutritious. Orange pumpkins are naturally rich in potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin A, which is a key nutrient for eye health. Like other orange fruits and vegetables, pumpkins have lots of beta-carotene, an integral antioxidant that may keep your skin glowing. The fiber in pumpkin puree helps you feel full, so you won’t reach for unnecessary snacks after eating it. But pumpkin isn’t the only star of the show in this recipe. The chia seeds provide an impressive nutritional profile.

Chia seeds provide a similar amount of omega-3 fatty acids as ground flaxseed, but it is in the form of alpha linolenic acid (ALA). They are rich in fiber, which may help reduce cholesterol levels and promote healthier digestion. Because chia seeds can clump easily in this chia pudding, you have to whisk thoroughly before placing in the fridge to set overnight. After about six hours in the fridge, the liquid-like mixture thickens to turn into a pudding that has a similar texture to tapioca. Enjoy it as a healthy dessert or as a nutritious breakfast. Just as a reminder, though, this is only for people who are not cleansing because it is not raw vegan.

If you, like millions across the nation, enjoy the warming fall aromas, then you are going to love this recipe. And if you love pumpkin spice everything, this is the nourishing lip scrub you never knew you needed in your life. It only contains natural ingredients that cater to the skin on your lips. Your lips will look more luxurious than ever!

What Is A Lip Scrub?

Just like a body scrub or facial scrub, a lip scrub contains particles that help slough away dead, dry, or flaky pieces on the lips. Lip scrubs naturally, not chemically, remove these dead cells, allowing your lips to better absorb moisturizing agents and protectants. If you ever apply lip balm and have to reapply 15 minutes later, your lips probably require exfoliation. DIY lip scrub recipes like the one in this article, are very simple to make and even easier to use.

What’s In A Lip Scrub?

More often than not, a lip scrub will contain an exfoliant, such as sugar, a carrier oil, vitamin E oil, and some flavoring or scented ingredients. This pumpkin spice lip scrub in this article contains both brown and granulated sugar, sweet almond oil, vitamin E oil, and pumpkin pie spice. If you know that your lips are sensitive, consider just using brown sugar because granulated sugar can be a little intense for those with sensitive skin.

How To Use A Lip Scrub

Wet your lips just as you would wet your face prior to cleansing. By wetting your lips, you help prevent abrasive friction. Apply the lip scrub directly to your damp lips and use small, circular motions with your fingertips to massage it in. Do this for about 30 seconds before rinsing off with lukewarm water. This process is highly beneficial if you want to soften and smooth your lips before applying lip balm or lipstick, or even if your lips are flaky from cold weather. If your lips are sunburned or have open cuts, please do not use a lip scrub because it may cause unwanted irritation.

What Do You Do After Using A Lip Scrub?

After you scrub your lips, you have to then apply a repairing lip balm. Some people like to use pure petroleum jelly because it seals in moisture, which soothes your cleansed lips. Providing the lips with moisturizing ingredients post scrub can rehydrate the skin’s outer layer, sealing in as much moisture as possible. If you don’t like petroleum jelly, which is completely understandable, you can use this DIY lip balm

DIY Pumpkin Spice Lip Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 3 drops vitamin E oil
  • 3 tablespoons sweet almond oil

Instructions:

  • Whisk the sugars and pumpkin pie spice together in a small bowl until they are thoroughly combined.
  • Pour the vitamin E oil and sweet almond oil into the bowl and stir to combine. The mixture should be thick, just like a body scrub.
  • Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and store in a cool, dark place for up to three months.
  • If your house is hot, it’s possible that the scrub may appear oily on the surface when you go to use it. Just make sure to mix it up if you see a layer of oil on the top. Then you can use it as you please.

There is a snack problem in the United States. Too often to people snack on foods that don’t satisfy their hunger. It is impossible to only reach into a bag of chips a couple times if you want to snack. You can easily finish a bag of chips because there are no real nutrients. Snacking on processed foods will only lead you to eat more, increasing your caloric intake and your risk of weight gain. Instead, it is better to snack on foods that satiate you, such as energy balls.

With the arrival of fall comes the tidal wave of pumpkin spice, and we are more than ready for impact. Pumpkin spice utilizes warming fall spices and other seasonal ingredients. Although canned pumpkin puree is available year round, it is more prevalent on supermarket shelves during the fall and winter months. It is very important that you do not purchase pumpkin pie filling for this recipe. Pumpkin pie filling contains preservatives and excess sodium and sugar. So make sure to get 100% pure pumpkin puree to stay healthy.

Before you scroll down to the ingredients, please note that you should not substitute the coconut flour with another type of flour as a one to one ratio. That will not work. Coconut flour acts like a sponge, absorbing liquid incredibly well. You can keep this keto-approved by using almond meal or almond flour, but you will have to double the amount. Should you use another flour like oat flour, the recipe will no longer be keto-approved, nor will it be gluten-free.

In September, you start to hear murmurs of the fabled pumpkin spice latte. It usually appears on coffee menus before the official start of fall and remains there until the holidays are over. We fully support the pumpkin spice craze, but we don’t support the high caloric intake and high sugar content that accompanies it. That’s why we decided to make a nutrient-dense, low-sugar, and healthier vegan pumpkin spice latte.

There are many recipes for pumpkin spice lattes on the Internet. You can replicate the famous one from Starbucks, but that one is not vegan. A pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks contains milk and pumpkin spice sauce, which is a mixture of condensed skim milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, colors, flavors, and preservatives. It also contains coffee, whipped cream, and pumpkin spice topping. Although an occasional pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks won’t kill you, drinking one every day can be a problem.

This homemade pumpkin spice latte is made with real pumpkin, naturally sweetened with maple syrup, and made creamy with cashews. You can’t have a pumpkin spice latte without pumpkin spice, though. Now, if you don’t have pumpkin spice in your pantry, you can make your own by clicking here. Once you sip this cozy fall beverage, you may never want the calorically-dense sugary drink from Starbucks again! Let us know how you like it in the comments.

With this recipe, comfort is guaranteed within five minutes because it only takes five minutes to make. Although you cannot enjoy this recipe while cleansing, you can have it once you finish your cleanse. Not only does it burst with autumn flavors, but it also is much healthier than most other pumpkin spice creations. How do we know this? Well, to put it in perspective, the average pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks contains about 12 teaspoons of sugar.

Pumpkin pie spice is a popular spice blend in North America, and it has taken the world by storm. This spice blend contains cinnamon, ginger powder, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, ground allspice, and occasionally some black pepper. All of these spices boast incredibly health benefits and flavor, which really brings this tea to life. The pumpkin pie flavor is very forward in this variation of a classic chai tea, which contains similar spices.

We know what you’re going to ask so we have the answer ready. The reason you cannot drink this tea during a Dherbs cleanse is because it uses black tea. As you know, you cannot consume caffeinated beverages during the cleanse. For this recipe, you also don’t have to make your own almond milk. You can can use a store bought variety, but make sure that there are no added sweeteners. You can also use oat milk if you prefer.
