Under eye puffiness or dark circles is not a new problem for people. In fact, it’s common for people to wake up with dreadful bags or dark circles under the eyes. Rather than living with that “dead eye” look or covering up the evidence with concealer, tackle the problem with a few simple, all-natural ingredients.

There is no single cause for under eye puffiness; rather, several factors tend to contribute to the problem. More often than not, you can treat the problem with a few DIY solutions or natural remedies. Although bags can form under the eyes as you get older, aging doesn’t explain puffy eyes in your mid-20s. Puffy eyes or dark circles can result from a late night, eating too much salt, crying excessively, or experiencing excess stress. Lack of sleep is also a primary culprit for puffiness or dark circles.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a bonafide superfood, and it receives a lot of attention for its potential health benefits. It exhibits skin-strengthening and antioxidant properties, making it a go-to ingredient in the DIY beauty world. Although there isn’t a lot of research on coconut oil reducing dark circles, there are studies that confirm coconut oil’s ability to rejuvenate the skin. Several studies indicate that coconut oil helps improve cell turnover, increasing skin barrier strength by thickening it. Thinning skin happens with age and is a contributing factor to under eye puffiness and dark circles. Thickening the skin barrier, then, may diminish their appearance. An additional study found that coconut oil may work to accelerate healing. If bruising or skin damage is the cause of dark circles, coconut oil may be the right choice.

Coffee

Coffee is an excellent source of antioxidants that benefit the hair, scalp, and skin. Many people incorporate coffee grounds into scrubs because it has natural exfoliation properties. Cleansing the skin with coffee may help reduce acne, increase blood flow, and even reduce the appearance of cellulite. People with puffy eyes may benefit from coffee via application, not consumption. Caffeine works to stimulate blood flow and widen or dilate blood vessels. Increasing blood flow to the area can help naturally tighten the skin, and may even reduce fluid build-up that can contribute to puffy eyes. Coffee is also rich in chlorogenic acids, which may reduce inflammation around the eyes.

DIY Eye Serum

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coffee grounds
  • 1 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 2 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 2 drops carrot seed essential oil
  • 1 drop neroli essential oil
  • 1 drop helichrysum essential oil

Instructions:

  • In a glass jar, combine the coffee grounds and fractionated coconut oil, screw on the lid, and store in a cool place for at least two days. You can leave it for up to a week if you want.
  • Take the coffee mixture out of the dark place and unscrew the lid. Pour the coconut oil and coffee mixture into a rollerball applicator using a funnel.
  • Add the essential oils to the rollerball applicator as well and shake to combine.
  • Apply to your under eye area with the rollerball nightly for a couple weeks. You should notice a reduction in puffiness in the morning.

Lack of sleep, stress, and looking at the computer screen for hours on end can create puffiness or dark circles around the eyes. Puffiness can also result from overeating, which is especially common during the holiday season. The overly-salted and sugary dishes can increase fluid build-up in the body. Additionally, holiday travel can also take a toll on your skin. Combine all of these things and the skin around your eyes may be puffier than ever.

Jade face rollers, oils, moisturizers, and more may make the skin feel lovely, but are they more effective than a massage? Many people like to avoid touching their face, as the hands often carry bacteria that can harm facial skin. With very clean hands, however, it’s possible to gently massage the face to decrease puffiness and improve glow. A de-puffing massage can promote lymphatic drainage, which may reduce the frequency of breakouts, dark circles, and puffiness. Above all else, a facial massage feels incredible and it’s easy to incorporate the beauty products you use in your daily skin care regimen.

Importance Of Lymphatic Drainage

According to experts, any facialist worth their salt incorporates lymphatic drainage into their services. It typically involves gentle tapping motions with your fingertips in a circular motion around the eyes. The tapping or gentle massage helps to increase blood flow to the area, which helps decrease swelling. To drain lymph properly, it’s best to massage in an outward motion, starting near the cheekbones and swooping out towards the temples. You can do this type of massage any time of day, as long as you have clean hands. Please continue reading to learn how to do the massage.

Quick Facial Massage For Eye Area

The key to a great facial massage is light pressure with the fingertips. Pull them upward and outward to encourage more circulation in the tissues. Delivering more oxygen to skin cells can help improve complexion and reduce puffiness. It can be beneficial to massage with a skin-safe carrier oil or moisturizer for gentle glide.

You can actually encourage the reduction of puffiness if you do the massage with a moisturizer that contains caffeine. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning that it compresses blood vessels in the skin. This can help support the resolution of inflammatory pathways and may reduce flushing, both of which contribute to puffy eyes. You can also massage with the inside of a banana peel, as the high potassium content helps to counteract fluid build-up

Step 1

After cleaning your hands thoroughly, gently dab your fingers in a moisturizer or oil. Starting from the corners of your mouth, sweep your fingertips around your cheekbones and up to your temples in a J-shaped motion.

Step 2

Do the same motion as in Step 1, but start from the corners of your nostrils instead. Sweep your fingertips upwards in a J-shaped motion toward your temples. Then you can repeat this motion, starting from the bridge of your nose. Because this is closer to the eyes, make sure to be extra gentle here. You can add more oil or moisturizer if you feel your fingertips tugging your skin.

Step 3

Now it’s time to trace the eye shape in an inverse motion. Start near the bridge of the nose and glide the fingertips just under the brow bone until you reach the temples. Repeat this cycle twice and be sure to be delicate on the skin. Avoid pulling and tugging because that will make things worse.

A stye is a common eye condition that results in a red, swollen lump on the edge of the eyelid. Styes are common eye conditions that affect millions of people. While a stye may not be a life-threatening condition, it is irritating, embarrassing, and occasionally painful. More often than not, you can use home remedies to get rid of styes, and this article aims to cover five remedies that experts recommend.

What causes a stye?

A stye is a bacterial infection that results in a swollen bump near the eyelashes on the eyelid. The reddish bump can look like a pimple and results from an oil gland infection in the eyelid. Researchers claim that the staphylococcus bacterium is typically responsible for the infection. Dead skin, dirt, or oil build-up can clog the oil glands around the eye and cause bacterial build-up. That’s why eye makeup, frequent eye touching, rosacea, or expired cosmetics can increase the risk of stye development.

In most cases, styes can be treated at home and they often go away within 7-10 days. To accelerate recovery, use the following home remedies.

5 home remedies to naturally get rid of styes

1. Use a warm tea bag

It’s helpful to use a warm cloth compress to provide relief, but it may be more beneficial to use a tea bag. Use a black tea bag because it contains antibacterial properties, and it may help reduce swelling. Add a black tea bag to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for one minute. Remove the tea bag from the water and allow it to cool for a couple minutes. Apply it to the affected eye and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. If you have a stye on each eye, use a separate tea bag for each eye. Do this twice daily to accelerate recovery.

2. Avoid eye makeup

It’s a natural instinct to want to cover the stye with makeup, especially if you go out in public, but do your best to avoid makeup. Not only does makeup delay the healing process, but it can also irritate the stye and make it worse. It’s possible that more bacteria can spread into the area by applying more makeup. Make sure to clean your eye with water at least five to six times per day. This will offer a cooling effect and it may reduce the severity of the infection.

3. Cucumbers or potatoes

One of the best things you can do to provide relief is to put something cool and refreshing on the affected eyelid. Apply a cold cucumber slice over the eye with the stye to help decrease inflammation and irritation. Cucumbers also work to enhance hydration and reduce possible swelling. Alternatively, you can apply a chilled potato slice on the eye if you don’t have a cucumber. It remains colder for a lot longer than a cucumber slice.

4. Rinse with mild soap and water

Many health experts advise that people avoid harsh or synthetic soaps when it comes to cleaning the eye area. It’s best to choose soaps that are hypoallergenic and chemical-free. There are many natural soaps that have proven to be effective against bacteria that exists in the eyelid. OCuSOFT, for example, may be able to kill seven different bacterial strains. If you don’t want to use soap, you can use a gentle saline solution to help promote drainage. A saline solution will also promote the breakdown of bacterial membranes. The most important thing to remember is to use warm water, not hot water.

5. Massage & coriander rinse

Many people find that gently massaging the area with lid wipes is a great way to promote drainage. Don’t try to pop the stye, though! Before you get anywhere near your stye, make sure that your hands are clean. Once the stye drains, make sure to keep the area clean and avoid touching your eyes as much as possible. If it hurts to massage your eye, stop massaging right away. If you don’t want to massage, you can use a coriander rinse. Some sources recommend making a tea-like liquid by pouring boiling water over coriander seeds. Once the liquid cools, strain the seeds and use the liquid to gently cleanse the eye. The antibacterial properties may help naturally get rid of a stye quickly.

It’s hard to purchase a special gift for your mother on Mother’s Day. A bouquet of flowers and a personalized card is always a lovely gesture, but sometimes you need to change up your gift game. After all, you are giving a gift to the woman who brought you into this world. All mothers deserve the very best, but it’s still difficult to shop for them.

One thing that we can all agree on is that all mothers deserve as much self care as possible. They don’t always go out of the way to pamper themselves, which means that you have to give them the time and gift for that to happen. Perhaps your mother is a yogi who loves a good sun salutation. An anti-slip, cushioned yoga mat may be the best gift to give her. Other moms may cry when they open an envelope with a massage gift certificate inside.

No matter if your mom is into healthy cooking, aromatherapy, or other forms of health, this article has all the best Mother’s Day gift ideas. Moms may not go out of their way to buy these gifts on their own, leaving the door wide open for all of you, husbands, sons, and daughters.

Quality Tea

As a quick disclaimer: don’t go buy cheap boxes of tea bags at the grocery store and think that that is special. Consider an elegant, herbal tea variety pack that helps to lower stress levels. It’s no secret that all moms experience a lot of stress every day, so help her wind down to a calmer state. You can even turn the gift into a fun night of tea tasting. On a related note, consider purchasing a tea tasting outing if that is available in your city.

A New Fitness Tracker

Some moms can’t let a day go by without reaching the goal of 10,000 steps. Those neighborhood strolls or treadmill jogs keep moms motivated, fit, and healthy. In addition to monitoring steps, many new fitness trackers log sleep, activity, recovery, calories burned, and more. Some can even go 10 days without charging!

Cold & Hot Eye Mask

This may be one of the best self-care gifts that you can get a mother. The trials of motherhood can result in a lot of tired mornings with puffy eyes and dark circles. A hot and cold eye mask tends to have reusable ice gels that can help control puffiness, but it also works as a heat pad. The back and forth combo of hot and cold is the perfect remedy to restore a mother’s eyes to perfection.

An At-Home Massage

Some mothers say that they are too busy to drive out of their way to a massage place. Bring the masseuse to your mother with an at-home massage. Let your mother experience true relaxation and give her a tranquil break. You can even accompany this gift with a soothing candle, body butter, or other skin care items like face masks and moisturizers.

Bath Bombs

Is there a mom who doesn’t deserve a relaxing soak in the tub? While there are many stores that sell bath bombs nowadays, it’s very easy to make your own. In fact, we have a great bath bomb recipe (click here to learn how to make them) that can often mean more as gifts. We always say that nothing beats a homemade gift!

A Diffuser

Whether the goal is to relieve anxiety, promote sounder sleep, or invigorate the soul, a diffuser can help get the job done. It’s wise to accompany this gift with a set of essential oils, so consider making that duo a tag-team Mother’s Day gift. She can keep it by the bed, place it on the kitchen countertop, or have it in the living room. One thing is for certain: she’ll feel her best when the diffuser is emitting the scents of essential oils.

A Day At The Spa

Even though the country is not completely out of the woods in regards to COVID-19, many spas are currently open. There are stricter guidelines in place and many facilities have modified options with reduced capacity. Consider making this gift a surprise! Get in the car together, drop her off, and pick her up when she’s fully relaxed.

The Gift Of Time

Moms can always use more of one thing and one thing only: time. They devote all of their time and energy to caring for everyone, but turn that around and spend Mother’s Day taking of them. Make a special meal and allow her to relax. Go grocery shopping or have groceries delivered to the house. Finally, prepare a fun activity that will keep the kids entertained so that mom can relax and not worry about anything.

Suffering from puffy eyes, dark circles, or fine lines is no way to go through life. Unfortunately, the stressors of everyday life can lead to anxiety, depression, or insomnia, also known as the holy trinity of sleep interference. So what do people with puffy eyes or dark circles do? They turn to chemical face or eye serums with high hopes of their skin looking like the models in skin care commercials.

What if we told you that you didn’t have to turn to chemical skin care products to make the skin around your eyes look more youthful? Well, it’s the truth! Powerful anti-aging compounds exist in coffee, cacao butter, beeswax, and rosehip oil, which are the four ingredients in this eye cream.

Coffee For The Skin?

People praise coffee because they consider it to be life’s blood, especially when they are drained of energy and require a pick-me-up. Little do they know that coffee beans contain antioxidants that help firm up and tighten the skin, in addition to restoring brightness and damaged skin. The caffeine in coffee works to improve blood flow to the face, which contributes to healthy skin cell production and reduced puffiness. Since dark circles are caused by stagnant blood around the eye area, coffee helps circulate the blood and reduce that dark appearance.

Cacao Butter For The Skin

Make sure that you get cacao butter and not cocoa butter. Cacao butter is replete with vitamins, minerals, and polyphenols that nourish the skin. Studies have shown that the polyphenols can improve skin elasticity, skin tone, regenerate skin cells, boost collagen production, and reduce signs of aging.

Rosehip Oil For The Skin

Working to penetrate the lower layers of the skin, where skin cell regeneration takes place, rosehip oil assists with repairing damaged skin tissue and increasing collagen production. Rosehip oil contains high amounts of vitamins C & E and omega-3s and omega-6s, all of which help to tighten the skin, reduce dark circles, and balance oil glands.

Beeswax For The Skin

Beeswax works to hydrate, condition, and soothe the skin, but it can also exfoliate and repair damaged skin tissue. Many commercial beauty products contain beeswax because of its ability to reduce itchy or irritated skin, and slow the signs of aging. Beeswax acts as a protective layer on the skin, working to help the skin retain moisture while also allowing it to breathe.

DIY Eye Cream

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons coarsely ground coffee beans
  • 2 tablespoons rosehip oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw cacao butter
  • 2 teaspoons beeswax pellets

Instructions:

  • Add the coffee grounds and rosehip oil to a double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler, add a few inches of water to a saucepan, bring to a boil, and place a heat-safe glass bowl atop the saucepan. Then place the coffee and rosehip oil in the bowl.
  • Heat the coffee grounds and rosehip oil in the double boiler/glass bowl for 30-45 minutes over medium-low heat. This allows the coffee to infuse into the oil.
  • Strain the coffee beans out of the oil through a fine mesh strainer and then pour the oil back into the double boiler/glass bowl. Add in the cacao butter and beeswax pellets and stir until melted (about 5 minutes).
  • Remove from the heat and pour the mixture into your desired containers. Allow it to firm up at room temperature for a couple hours, or you can accelerate the process by placing it in the fridge.
  • Store in a cool dry place and apply once daily (preferably at night or in the morning) to improve the skin around your eyes.

Lack of sleep or irregular sleep patterns can make the skin under your eyes look puffy, saggy, or incredibly dark. Sometimes your eyes can look this way even if you are sleeping like a log every night. Things like stress, poor diet, anxiety, and nutritional deficiencies can also contribute to the way your eye area looks. Lucky for you, we found an intensive eye care cream that works wonders.

Store bought eye creams can contain a lot of harmful ingredients that may damage your skin. Additionally, using eye creams, or any skincare products with chemicals, can negatively affect your internal organs. The chemicals are absorbed by your skin and enter your body, which only creates more toxic build-up in various organs and systems. This homemade eye cream contains natural ingredients that work to hydrate your skin and naturally decrease dark circles. Let’s explore two of the awesome ingredients.

Geranium Essential Oil

Commonly used in aromatherapy, geranium essential oil has been used to promote healthy skin for thousands of years. In more recent years, people have used geranium oil to alleviate anxiety, reduce inflammation, and balance hormones. It contains astringent properties, which help to minimize wrinkles by tightening facial skin. Additionally, geranium oil works to stop bacteria from growing on the skin.

Shea Butter

Dark circles under the eyes typically indicate that the skin lacks moisture and is in desperate need of hydration. High quality Shea butter contains essential fatty acids and vitamins that help to brighten the skin under the eyes, resulting in an even tone. Shea butter also contains a large amount of vitamin E, which helps to restore skin elasticity and works to repair any skin damage.

Ingredients For Eye Cream:

  • 2 tablespoons Shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon beeswax
  • 5 teaspoons rosehip oil
  • 4 drops geranium essential oil

Instructions:

  • Place all of the ingredients, except the rosehip and geranium oils, in a heat-safe glass measuring cup.
  • Fill a small saucepan with water and place the measuring cup containing the ingredients in the water. Make sure no water gets in the cup.
  • Warm this over medium heat for about six minutes, stirring the mixture occasionally until everything is melted.
  • Remove from the heat and carefully remove the cup from the water. Let this cool for about five minutes before adding the rosehip and geranium oils. Stir well.
  • Transfer this mixture into a glass jar with a lid and use a thumbnail size amount under each eye every night. Store with the lid on the jar in a cool, dry place.
