Just like anything in life, there is no magic, cure-all solution to immediately fix feelings of nausea. Your first course of action is to determine the cause of the problem. That can make it easier to choose the right natural remedy. Even if you don’t fully know why your stomach is upset, the natural remedies in this article may still provide relief. A few common causes of nausea are detailed below.

Motion Sickness

Some people are very susceptible to motion sickness, no matter the mode of transportation. If you are traveling by car, get out for some fresh air to help relieve nausea. You can’t necessarily roll down the window on a plane or train, though. Motion sickness occurs when the inner ear, brain, and eyes receive mixed signals and cannot properly communicate with each other. You experience nausea as a result.

Pregnancy Nausea

It’s likely that you cannot wait to meet your bun in the oven, but that cute baby can cause some serious nausea. Pregnant women may experience morning sickness during the first trimester. It usually goes away after the early stages of pregnancy, but some women can experience it throughout all three trimesters.

Cancer Drugs

Patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation, and conventional cancer treatments tend to get nauseous. These drugs are very hard on the body and can affect certain parts of the brain that control vomiting. Experts state that chemo drugs may irritate the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. Nearly 80% of chemo patients experience nausea.

Food Poisoning

Sometimes, you just know when food poisoning is gonna hit. Something you ate was off, but it can also creep up out of nowhere. Suffice to say that food poisoning is no fun and it can cause serious nausea, indigestion, and vomiting. It occurs when you ingest harmful microbes, viruses, bacteria, or certain chemicals.

Once you know the cause of your nausea, you can have an easier time choosing the right remedy. Below, you’ll find five natural remedies to relieve nausea.

Essential Oils

There are various essential oils that may help relieve nausea. Peppermint essential oil is one of the most popular oils for nausea relief, but lemon is also helpful, especially during pregnancy. These oils have antimicrobial properties that work to fight harmful pathogens when you inhale their aromas. A 2021 study involved cancer patients who applied peppermint oil below their noses for nausea relief. A separate controlled group only used anti-nausea medication. The peppermint group experienced less nausea and vomiting than the other group.

Ginger

Whether you have a sore throat, nausea, or upset stomach, ginger may be the right natural remedy for the job. Ginger tea, ginger chews, and fresh ginger all work well at relieving various types of nausea, including pregnancy nausea. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends ginger as a safe alternative to nausea drugs in pregnancy. Some studies have found that ginger is more effective at relieving nausea than dimenhydrinate, an antiemetic drug.

Move It (If You Can)

If you experience nausea from a stomach ache or overeating, exercise may help. A gentle workout, such as yoga or walking, increases circulation to your muscles and organs, including the ones that aid digestion. That boost of circulation may help improve digestion, which can then help relieve nausea. Just make sure to avoid bending over, as that will not feel good.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture and acupressure work their magic by activating energy meridians in the body. During an acupuncture appointment, the acupuncturist administers thin needles to specific points in the body. One of the most popular nausea pressure points is on the hand, between the thumb and index finger. If you do not want to engage in acupuncture, you can apply pressure in this area for three to four minutes per side and repeat as needed. Sea Bands may also work to relieve nausea, as they are bracelets that apply pressure to an anti-nausea point on the inside of the wrist.

Peppermint Tea

Similar to peppermint essential oil, peppermint tea may help ease nausea. It is safe to drink, even for children, and may also help relieve digestive problems, such as gas, bloating, or irritable bowel syndrome. If you have acid reflux, try not to consume a lot of mint, though, as it can relax the esophageal sphincter and worsen symptoms.

Intravenous (IV) therapy is a popular health and wellness trend. Many celebrities promote IV therapy on social media and podcasts, and some claim that it helps them feel more alive and healthy. Although it may not be a cure-all for hangovers, it may help relieve symptoms related to dehydration.

IV therapy is not the standard medical protocol for hangover relief; rather it is somewhat of a boutique and elective treatment. During the treatment, the patient receives a high dose of vitamins directly into their bloodstream. This allows the body to rapidly absorb nutrients at higher doses. Some of the issues that patients claim IV therapy helps include:

 • Migraines
 • Fatigue
 • Withdrawal
 • Hangovers
 • Dehydration
 • Fibromyalgia
 • Headaches
 • Cold symptoms

The Myers’ cocktail is the most popular mixture of vitamins and minerals. The name comes from John Myers, who first administered this treatment in the 1970s. A Myers’ cocktail includes:

 • Magnesium
 • Calcium
 • Vitamin B6
 • Vitamin B12
 • B-complex vitamin
 • Vitamin C

How Does IV Hydration Work For Hangovers?

The theory behind administering an IV for hangovers is that it can reduce dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and harmful metabolite buildup. Basically, injecting fluids directly into the veins gives the body quick access to water and nutrients lost via urination or vomiting while drinking alcohol. By adding fluids, you can help dilute and flush out the harmful toxins left behind from alcohol breakdown. That helps support kidney and liver function.

What Is In An IV Drip For Hangover Relief?

Simple IV fluid drips for hangovers aim to replenish fluids and relieve dehydration. They contain sterile water and at least one electrolyte. The most common fluids for mild dehydration are traditional saline (water and 0.9% sodium chloride) and Ringer’s solution (a mixture of water, sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and lactate).

Most hangover IV infusions contain a 0.9% sodium chloride base, but you can customize the therapy with other additives. Those additives may not improve or cure your hangover, but they provide vital nutrients that the body can use. Sometimes, an anti-nausea medication may be added to the drip to help relieve gastrointestinal issues.

Are There Risks Of IV Therapy?

One of the risks of this type of therapy is that the nutrients bypass the body’s gatekeeping functions. That can overload your bloodstream with vitamins all at once, which does not allow the stomach to digest them slowly. Although it is rare, vitamin toxicity can occur as a result, but that depends on the amount of vitamins and minerals you receive via IV. A high dose of vitamin C, for example, may cause the body to produce oxalates, which increases the risk of developing kidney stones. For that reason, people with renal disease should be cautious about IV therapy.

Using vitamin therapy too frequently may cause nutritional imbalances. It’s possible for IV therapy to upset electrolyte levels. Overhydration (yes, this is a real thing) is another possible risk from frequent IV therapy. You may also experience nausea, confusion, or headaches as a result of overhydration.

When you sweat, the body loses the fluid that keeps it hydrated. In addition to losing water, the body also loses electrolytes, putting you at risk of dehydration. To avoid dehydration, you have to continually replenish fluids as you sweat them out. Water is an obvious solution, but enhancing your beverage intake with electrolytes is even better.

The Importance Of Electrolytes

If you have seen the movie, Idiocracy, you probably know that electrolytes are what plants crave. People in the movie can no longer grow crops because they pour sports drinks on the soil. To be completely honest, sports drinks don’t do a great deal for your body, unless you are working so hard that you can burn off all the sugar that comes with them.

Electrolytes are a category of electrically charged minerals that the body both produces and derives from different foods and beverages. Such minerals include potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphate, and chloride. All of these electrolytes are vital if you want to sustain a healthy body and mind. They balance your fluid levels, maintain healthy blood pH, and keep the nerves, muscles, and brain cells firing. They also work to transport nutrients to cells throughout the body and excrete toxins from healthy cells. Basically, they are more than just workout fuel.

Signs Your Body Needs Electrolytes

The body will let you know if it needs something, but you have to know your body and pay attention to it in order to read the cues. It lets you know if it needs any macro- or micronutrients in your diet. When your body needs electrolytes, you’ll want to pay attention to the following signs. Doing so can help you avoid dehydration and other serious health outcomes that result from that.

Your Stomach Is Upset

If you feel nauseous or have gastrointestinal issues, you may need more electrolytes. Obviously, these two symptoms can result from myriad things. According to health experts, a lot of runners can experience nausea at the end of long runs. Experts experimented with giving runners more sodium prior to, during, and after runs to alleviate nausea, and it proved effective.

Your Heartbeat Isn’t Normal

Need more proof that electrolytes are vital to overall health? Well, this is it. Functional medicine experts and dietitians note that electrolytes like calcium and potassium support proper heart rhythm. Any imbalance can lead to abnormal heart rhythm, rapid heartbeat, or palpitations. Severe electrolyte imbalances may even pose a threat to your heart. For this reason, always make sure that you have optimal electrolyte levels at all times. You can always check in with your doctor if you are unsure about your levels.

Your Sodium Levels Are Low

In severe cases of an electrolyte deficit, a person may experience hyponatremia, a condition stemming from low sodium levels. This usually happens if someone does not replace their sodium that they lose via sweat. Hyponatremia, however, is a serious medical condition that causes mental confusion, lethargy, muscle weakness, and nausea. Severe cases may even cause death, so talk to your doctor if you experience these symptoms after a long day of sweating.

You’re Just Feeling Off

Notice any sudden mood swings or find yourself to be more irritable than usual? Dietitians say that you are most likely lacking electrolytes. Electrolyte imbalances can occasionally affect brain function, resulting in irritability, mental confusion, or even mood swings.

Your Muscles Are Cramping Or Weak

As mentioned in the beginning of the article, electrolytes aid with proper muscle and nerve function. If you experience cramps or muscle weakness, your body is likely telling you that you need to replenish your electrolytes. When you are active, the body uses more of these nutrients, so replenishing them regularly can help you avoid these problems.

Electrolytes are just as essential as any vitamin or mineral, so you should incorporate them into your daily diet. Most people don’t get enough electrolytes on a daily basis because the Standard American Diet is devoid of many micronutrients. Pay attention to your body and it will communicate when it needs more electrolytes.

Hotter temperatures and summer go hand in hand. The heat should not come as a surprise to you during the summer. The heat may do more than make you sweat, though. Researchers note that rising temperatures increase certain health risks

A 2022 study of more than 219 million American adults over the age of 20 suggested a link between extreme heat and all-cause mortality. The most significant risks were associated with older individuals. Health experts note that everyone, regardless of age, should understand the health risks that come with extreme heat. That is especially true because there are a lot of outdoor activities that occur during summer. It’s easy to get distracted on a beach day, for example, and that can be a detriment to your health if you aren’t paying attention to bodily signals.

Being aware of how extreme heat affects the body can help you take proper precautions. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) states that 2023 was the warmest year on record. Early indications suggest that 2024 will follow suit, so be prepared and do your best to stay cool during these summer months.

Health Risks That Increase With Hotter Weather

Specific populations are at a higher risk of experiencing health issues when temperatures rise. That said, nobody is immune to heat-related health issues. Understanding the signs can help you protect yourself (and others) from severe outcomes resulting from heat exposure. The populations at a higher risk include:

 • Older adults, especially people with underlying health conditions
 • Infants and young children because their bodies cannot regulate temperature as well
 • Pregnant people
 • People with chronic health issues

Heart Attack

According to research published in 2023, cardiovascular disease deaths caused by heat could surge by approximately 162% by 2036-2065. Another study from 2023 examined more than 202,000 heart attacks in Jiangsu, China. Study authors noticed a strong correlation between a person’s chances of dying from heart attack and extremely hot and cold temperatures. When the body is exposed to heat, especially temperatures higher than body temperature, the heart has to work a lot harder. It needs to circulate the blood out toward the skin to allow for sweating and other mechanisms that protect the body from heat. The harder the heart has to work, the greater the risk of heart problems in those at risk.

Heatstroke

Although it seems obvious that heat increases the risk of heatstroke, a lot of people do not understand the symptoms or risk. Heatstroke, much like stroke, is a medical emergency. Signs of heatstroke include confusion, altered behavior, change in speech, or even seizure. Heatstroke differs from heat exhaustion, although the two are related. Heat exhaustion is the body’s warning sign that it is overheating. You may experience headache, dizziness, nausea, etc. You should slow down and rehydrate with fluids and electrolytes and seek shade if you experience these symptoms. Refrain from consuming caffeine and alcohol in the heat because they can dehydrate the body.

Higher Or Lower Blood Pressure

Hot weather can cause blood pressure to become too high or too low. When you sweat a lot, the body loses fluids and blood volume, the decrease of which can drop blood pressure. This issue becomes more pronounced when you change positions, such as standing up after lying down. Dehydration also puts undue strain on the kidneys, which can decrease blood pressure. On the other side of the coin, heat can elevate blood pressure because the body has to work harder to circulate blood in order to cool down. Although high blood pressure can be asymptomatic, it may trigger dizziness or headaches.

Migraine Attacks

Speaking of dizziness and headaches, let’s talk about migraines. Data indicates that migraine attacks affect 12 to 15% of the general population, and the effects can be debilitating. Migraines can cause irritability, light sensitivity, dizziness, nausea, cravings, and seeing of odd shapes. According to recent research, hotter temperatures may increase the risk of a migraine attack. Heat can increase inflammatory effects that can prolong migraines. Plus, dehydration can decrease the body’s ability to fight a migraine.

Stroke

A study from 2020 found that weather conditions, especially high heat, are becoming a factor for the risk of stroke. There may be a lag period of one to six days between extreme weather exposure and stroke. Another study from 2020, which has yet to be published in a scientific journal, found that stroke severity increased by more than 67% for every 9ºF uptick in average temperature over the course of three days. Extreme heat puts stress on the body, especially in the elderly, which can lead to an increased risk of stroke. Look out for vision changes, facial droop, slurred speech, and weakness of arms or legs (especially on one side).

The post These 5 Food Groups Are Easy To Digest appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

After dealing with a bad case of indigestion or food poisoning, the first foods you reach for when you’re ready to eat are simple and easy to digest. Nobody has the desire to wolf down a double cheeseburger after dealing with stomach issues. More often than not, you choose plain crackers, soup, bread, or rice to remedy symptoms.

A common theme among easy to digest foods is that they are low in fiber, fat, and flavor. They lack acidity, spice, and are usually soft or easy to chew and swallow. Eating foods that are harder on the digestive system may worsen symptoms, so you choose foods that are more digestible to give your digestive tract a break. Digestion requires energy, which includes mechanical and chemical energy processes like chewing or the work done by acid in the stomach.

By choosing foods that are easy to digest when you don’t feel 100%, you give your gastrointestinal (GI) tract a break. Your body has to work a little less hard to carry out the digestive processes. That is what you want if you experience diarrhea, indigestion, vomiting, or other digestive issues. Continue reading to learn about some of the easiest food groups to digest when your digestive system isn’t in the best shape.

Well-Cooked Vegetables

Raw vegetables can be harder to digest than cooked vegetables. When you cook vegetables, their plant cell walls soften and their starches become readily available to enzymes in the digestive system. That makes for an easier digestive process. Consider cooking the following vegetables if you need easily digestible healthy options:

 • Spinach
 • Green beans
 • Carrots
 • Zucchini and squash (seeded)
 • Beets
 • Potatoes (peeled)

Peeled Or Stewed Fruits

Just like raw vegetables, fresh fruits are high in fiber, which can make them tougher for the body to digest. Because the bulk of dietary fiber in fruit exists in peels and seeds, health experts suggest eating peeled and seeded fruits after dealing with an upset stomach. It can be beneficial to choose fruits lower in fiber, such as ripe bananas or melons, especially if you struggle with diarrhea or nausea. If you choose to eat fruits like pears and apples, remove the skin. Softer fruits like stewed peaches or plums are also good options if you have an upset stomach.

Soups, Smoothies, And Purees

The way you prepare food can influence how your body digests it. Texture modification strategies, such as blending, doesn’t change the fiber content, but it can reduce the size of fiber particles in plant-based foods. That’s why smoothies, soups, and purees are much gentler on the digestive system. Raw kale, for example, is bulky and tough, while cooked or blended kale is soft. The change in texture allows for easier digestibility. The same goes for berries and other fibrous fruits, which you can enjoy if you blend into smoothies. Blending or pureeing these plant-based foods essentially pre-digests food, which takes the majority of the work away from your digestive system.

White Flour Products

After a bad bout of food poisoning or general GI discomfort, you usually choose white foods, including rice, bread, and plain crackers. As you know by now, high-fiber foods can be difficult to digest if you’re experiencing abdominal bloating, diarrhea, or nausea. White bread, white pastas, and white rice, although not the healthiest foods, have had their fiber components removed. You can temporarily choose these foods to enjoy when dealing with digestive problems, but don’t eat them regularly.

Soft Proteins

Animal proteins don’t contain fiber, but they are difficult for the body to digest, especially if they are rich in fat, tough, or chewy. Choose softer, easy-to-chew proteins that are low in fat. Scrambled eggs, smooth nut butters, and soft tofu are nourishing options that are typically easy to digest.

The post 6 Great Natural Remedies For Vertigo appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Vertigo is the feeling of spinning and dizziness that occurs without any movement. The dizzy feeling happens when the brain feels that the body is off balance, even though it is not. Not only does vertigo limit a person’s activity, but it also makes them feel sick. The chances of getting hurt from a fall increase dramatically for people with vertigo. Living with vertigo means that surroundings may move despite how still the person is.

What Causes Vertigo?

A delusion of motion can be very severe and debilitating, which leads to nausea and occasional vomiting. When you understand what’s behind your symptoms, you can decide which natural remedies for vertigo work best. Experts agree that there are a few things that can trigger vertigo spells:

 • BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo): Crystals inside chambers of the inner ear, which sense motion, float around or become dislodged.
 • Vestibular Neuritis: This involves inflammation of the vestibular nerve, which connects the inner ear to the brain.
 • Meniere’s Disease: This disorder of the inner ear can cause vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus. Symptoms result from a build-up of fluid in the inner ear, and doctors typically prescribe medication (or at least in part) to help treat the condition.

Try The Brandt-Daroff Exercise

This is part of neck therapy for vertigo, also known as vestibular rehabilitation. Your doctor may suggest you perform Brandt-Daroff exercises at home to help relieve symptoms. These exercises don’t move the crystals that have become displaced in the inner ear; rather, they help your brain acclimate to your dizziness, which can help decrease symptoms over time. Brandt-Daroff exercise involves:

 • Sit in an upright position. Lie down on your right side, pointing your nose up at above a 45-degree angle.
 • Remain in this position for about 30 seconds, or until the vertigo passes.
 • Return to the seated position and then repeat on the other side.

Ginger Tea

According to research published in the Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science, ginger root may reduce symptoms of vertigo better than manual repositioning. You can steep raw ginger root in a cup of boiling water for five minutes. Honey will help mellow the spicy flavor of ginger. Experts recommend drinking ginger tea twice daily to help reduce dizziness, nausea, and other vertigo symptoms.

Hydrate

Dehydration can cause or worsen symptoms of vertigo. This is true even if the body is in a mildly dehydrated state. When you properly hydrate the body, you can help minimize dizziness and balance issues. In order to effectively hydrate, drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. If you weigh 150 pounds and divide that by two to get 75, you should drink 75 ounces of water each day. Water is the best option because it is calorie- and caffeine-free, and it is not a diuretic.

Acupressure

Acupressure is similar to acupuncture, only it involves applying pressure to specific pressure points and doesn’t use needles. The goal of this therapy is to promote overall relaxation and wellness. The P6 acupressure method, for example, involves an effective pressure point located in the two tendons between the inner forearm and wrist. Stimulating these pressure points may help manage vertigo symptoms.

Do Balance Exercises

If vestibular neuritis causes you to experience vertigo, experts encourage you to practice balance exercises. You have to exercise the balance system in your body to make it stronger. The balance system is the interconnection between the information your brain receives from your muscles, joints, eyes, and inner ear. Vestibular therapists often recommend yoga for people with vertigo, as the postures help strengthen balance.

The Epley Maneuver

Potentially one of the most common ways to manage vertigo, the Epley maneuver involves a series of steps that you do before bed every night. Ideally, you do this maneuver nightly until you can resolve symptoms of vertigo for at least 24 hours. One report found that 52 out of every 100 people who use the Epley maneuver gain relief from vertigo symptoms. If symptoms of vertigo occur from the left side and left ear, follow these steps:

 • Sit on the edge of a bed and turn the head 45 degrees to the left. Lie down quickly, head facing up on the bed at a 45-degree angle.
 • Maintain this position for 30 seconds before turning the head 90 degrees to the right without raising your head. Remain here for 30 seconds.
 • Turn the head and entire body to the right side and look downwards for 30 seconds.
 • Slowly return to a seated position and remain here for a few minutes.
 • If vertigo starts on the right side of the ear, do the aforementioned instructions, but on the reverse side.

The post 4 Natural Remedies For Nausea appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Nausea affects every single person at one point or another. Whether your nausea stems from pregnancy, acid reflux, motion sickness, or cancer treatment, various natural remedies can offer relief. Just as with over-the-counter medications, you may want to check with your healthcare professional before experimenting with the natural remedies in this article. Certain supplements or at-home remedies may not agree with your current health or medications you may be taking.

In order to treat nausea, you need to first determine the cause. Without knowledge of the cause, treating it can be quite difficult. Nausea during pregnancy, for example, is often accompanied by vomiting. In fact, seven out of 10 pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting related to pregnancy. Certain home remedies may work better for moms-to-be than someone who gets carsick. We hope the following methods help relieve nausea.

Peppermint

Not only does peppermint have a calming effect, but it may also relax stomach muscles and relieve nausea. Peppermint herb has been used to thwart symptoms of digestive disorders and other conditions since the times of ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome. The fresh leaves and peppermint essential oil may benefit those who suffer from indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The reason for this is because peppermint works to ease inflamed tissues and prevent the further growth of unhealthy gut bacteria and microorganisms. Peppermint tea is the most common way to consume this remedy, but iced peppermint tea may provide extra benefit. Experts say that, in addition to the herb’s health properties, the cold may aid nausea reduction.

Aromatherapy

When you are nauseous, certain scents can either make symptoms go away or make them worse. A drop of peppermint oil under the nose can soothe feelings of nausea, just as other types of aromatherapy can have a similar therapeutic effect. According to research from 2021, inhaling a custom blend of lavender, peppermint, ginger, and lemon essential oils decreased vomiting and postoperative nausea. Many essential oils have health properties that calm the nervous system, which can typically aid with nausea relief. Add peppermint essential oil to a diffuser in order for you to inhale the vapors.

Ginger

In China, ginger has been used to treat digestive pain and issues for more than 2,000 years. How ginger eases nausea isn’t exactly clear, but researchers believe that the active components (gingerols and shogaols) directly affect the central nervous system and digestive system. A scientific paper from 2020 examined 13 previous studies involving 1,174 participants. The paper concluded that ginger was able to significantly reduce nausea compared to a placebo. More research found that ginger was effective at reducing the possibility of acute chemotherapy-induced vomiting in cancerous patients. Ginger tea is a common way to consume this remedy, but many people also enjoy the candied form of ginger, especially for nausea due to motion sickness.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the practice of stimulating pressure points throughout the body to alleviate pain. It has been a practice in East Asian medicine for thousands of years, and it involves inserting thin needles into the skin at specific pressure points. Many scientists believe that acupuncture works because the needles stimulate certain nerves in the body. Those nerves send signals to the brain to release hormones that reduce feelings of nausea and pain. Acupuncture may help relieve morning sickness or mild nausea. In one study that involved 134 people with advanced cancer, acupuncture was a supporting therapy that helped alleviate vomiting and nausea that resulted from chemotherapy.

Some people experience pulsing sensations around their temples. Others are more familiar with a sharp or splitting pain in their forehead. There is the unfortunate stabbing sensation that hits you behind your eyes. All of these locations and pains mean different things, but have you ever wondered why they occur at those locations?

Whether you wake up in pain or it happens over the course of your day, a headache is never enjoyable. You want it gone as quickly as possible, even if that means icing your neck, massaging your temples, or meditating with an essential oil diffuser. The location of the headache pain can give you some insight to the cause and the best way to treat it. Below, we detail five headache locations and the best way to help remedy them.

A quick note: While most headaches are not dangerous, some may require medical attention, as they can be a sign of a more serious health issue. If you experience headache pain along with fever, confusion, fainting, loss of consciousness, weakness, imbalances, loss of vision, or speech impairments, seek medical care.

Back Of Your Head And Neck

A headache that hangs around the back of your head may indicate a cervicogenic headache. A secondary headache for short, the pain of a cervicogenic headache doesn’t originate in the head; rather, it radiates up from the neck. These headaches tend to stem from neck problems or injuries, according to health experts. The pain usually starts from the base of your skull and radiates up one side of your head. The reason for this is because of the functional connectivity of pain sensitive structures in the head and neck regions.

In order to fix this headache pain, health experts recommend physical therapy, especially if a past injury is the cause. Rehabbing your neck muscles, where the pain is rooted, can help reduce the risk of future cervicogenic headaches. Additionally, massaging the neck can help relieve muscle tension and may be beneficial for people with occipital neuralgia.

Front Of Your Head And Face

Throbbing head and facial pain, such as pressure around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead, often indicates a sinus headache. You can also experience nasal congestion and fatigue along with this type of headache. If you bend forward, the pain tends to increase. Because migraines manifest similar symptoms, it can be difficult to differentiate the two headaches. Roughly 90% of people who complain about sinus headaches are later diagnosed with migraines. Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light are not linked to sinus headaches, but they are common with migraines.

Sinus headaches usually occur in conjunction with the common cold, upper respiratory tract infections, or seasonal allergies. For this reason, treating those underlying symptoms can help resolve this type of headache pain

Around Your Whole Head

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a tight band squeezing your entire head. This is the typical description of a tension headache, which is commonly triggered by poor sleep and stress. Tension headaches are characterized by pressure and tightness around the entire head, and they often go hand in hand with tension in the neck, shoulders, and jaw.

The most common way to treat tension headaches is by taking over-the-counter painkillers like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin. However, if you don’t want to immediately resort to these medications, you can try some tension-relieving exercises. Getting quality sleep and learning to manage stress can also help you avoid them moving forward.

Side Of Your Head

Many headaches can cause pain to occur on one side of the head, but this type of pain is most commonly associated with migraines. Migraines can cripple you, producing severe throbbing or pulsing unilateral head pain that can last for hours, days even. When you experience a migraine, you may also develop sensitivity to light and sound. Vomiting and nausea tend to accompany the head pain as well.

To fix this type of pain, you should consult your doctor, especially if you experience migraines on a regular basis. Your doctor may be able to detail a proper treatment plan, which may involve medication and avoiding certain triggers.

In Your Temples

Migraine and tension headaches can cause pain in your temples. That said, pain in the temples can often be attributed to a rare condition known as temporal arteritis. Health experts explain that temporal arteritis occurs when blood vessels near the temples constrict and become inflamed. This health issue is more common in people over the age of 50. In addition to the throbbing sensation in your temples, it’s possible to experience fever, fatigue, jaw pain, vision problems, muscle aches in the upper arms, loss of appetite, and tenderness at the scalp or temples.

If you have temporal arteritis, you have to treat it immediately. Doctors often prescribe steroids to counter the pain as quickly as possible. If you don’t treat temporal arteritis, it can worsen and lead to blindness and other complications.

Do you remember the famous book, Everyone Poops? It teaches children that all creatures in the animal world, including humans, deal with the products of digestion. Most people don’t want to discuss this topic, or the topic of digestive problems. This is interesting when you consider that digestive disease continues to rise among American adults. In fact, a 2021 report found that 62 million Americans are diagnosed with a digestive disorder each year.

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract consists of the mouth, stomach, and intestines. Along with the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, these organs work in unison to absorb nutrients and expel waste. If these natural processes are disturbed, it’s possible to experience a range of symptoms. Many symptoms pass and pose little risk to your health, but common digestive issues can often indicate several common digestive disorders. Read on to learn about the most common digestive disorders. If you suspect that you have one of these problems, consult with your doctor to take action.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disorder that affects the large intestine (colon). It is characterized by symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. The exact cause of IBS is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to a combination of factors, including abnormalities in the muscles of the intestine, changes in the balance of bacteria in the gut, and sensitivity to certain foods. There is a growing body of research on IBS, including studies on its causes, risk factors, and treatment options. Some potential treatment options for IBS include dietary changes, medications, and stress management techniques. If you are experiencing symptoms of IBS, it is important to speak with a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the digestive tract. The condition is characterized by inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract, which can lead to symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss. Health experts are still unsure of the exact cause of Crohn’s disease, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune factors. A growing body of research on Crohn’s disease includes studies on its causes, risk factors, and treatment options. Some people choose conventional treatment options, while others prefer to use natural remedies to manage symptoms. Should you think you have Crohn’s disease, speak with your healthcare provider to get a proper diagnosis and discuss treatment options.

Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus that can affect digestion in several ways. One of the primary symptoms of hemorrhoids is painless bleeding during bowel movements. In rare cases, heavy or prolonged bleeding can lead to anemia. Hemorrhoids can also cause itching, swelling, and irritation around the anus, which can be uncomfortable and interfere with the normal process of defecation. In some cases, the presence of hemorrhoids can make it difficult to have a bowel movement, leading to constipation. Lastly, it’s possible that hemorrhoids may be associated with other digestive disorders like IBD.

Diverticulitis

There are small bulging pouches that can form in the lining of the digestive system, most often in the colon or large intestine, and these are called diverticula. The formation of these sacs is referred to as diverticulosis, but having diverticula does not indicate diverticulitis. If the diverticula become inflamed, then this is considered diverticulitis. People with diverticulitis will most commonly experience severe abdominal pain or a change in bowel habits. Other symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, irregular bowel movements, fever, vomiting, or constipation. Similar to other digestive disorders, there is no singular or specific cause; however, the formation of diverticula can be attributed to a low-fiber diet, which can lead to constipation. This increased pressure in the colon may lead to the development of diverticula.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) occurs when acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus. It can sometimes get to the point when stomach acid rises into the throat and disturbs the tissues. The primary reason for this occurrence is if the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) isn’t functioning properly. Rapid weight gain, medication, lifestyle, diet, and pregnancy (occasionally) can also lead to the development of GERD. There are many natural remedies to help minimize symptoms, and you can learn about them by clicking here.

Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a common IBD that causes ulcers or long-lasting inflammation in the digestive tract. This condition affects the inner lining to the rectum and large intestine and is closely related to Crohn’s Disease. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic condition and while there isn’t a known cure, there are several options to help reduce symptoms and achieve long-term remission. Maintaining a healthy diet is often the first order of business to help reduce symptoms of ulcerative colitis. It is also wise to avoid sugar, exercise regularly to reduce inflammation, and consider supplementing with herbs like slippery elm, as it may help calm inflamed bowels.

When you say that you have an all-natural cleaner, you are typically referring to some concoction that contains vinegar. Although vinegar is an effective cleaning agent for various surfaces in the home, it can make your house smell a certain way, especially if you don’t scent it. If you don’t want your house to smell like pickle brine, the all-purpose cleaner in this recipe is for you.

The major cleaning agent in this homemade cleaner is 70% isopropyl alcohol. That means that 70% is isopropyl alcohol and the other 40% is purified water by volume. 70% isopropyl alcohol kills organisms by denaturing and dissolving their lipids. Studies suggest that this type of alcohol is effective against most bacteria, many viruses, and fungi, but it is not effective against bacterial spores.

There is a good reason you see rubbing alcohol in most first aid kits. It exhibits antiseptic qualities, making it a great natural bactericidal treatment. One evidence review found that the time to 50% relief of postoperative nausea symptoms was faster when smelling rubbing alcohol than traditional anti-nausea medications. Alcohol is also an excellent surface disinfectant, so you can use it for thermometers, scissors, and other surfaces. Read on to learn more about this homemade alcohol cleaner.

70% Isopropyl Alcohol

The higher the concentration of alcohol, the less effective it is at killing germs. You may think that 99% isopropyl alcohol is better at cleaning or sanitizing, but this is not the case. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that using 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean will cause immediate coagulation on the surface or cell wall proteins. That prevents the passage of alcohol into the cell itself, meaning that the alcohol cannot penetrate the virus or bacteria and kill it. The higher concentration almost creates a shield that protects bacteria, which is why the lower concentration is better for cleaning.

Liquid Castile Soap

From floors to ceilings to your body and beyond, Castile soap is an excellent cleaner for almost anything and everything. Traditionally made from 100% pure olive oil, water, and lye, Castile soap is believed to have originated in the Castile region of Spain. It is an eco-friendly soap that contains powerful disinfecting essential oils, including tea tree and eucalyptus. You can use it on countertops, tile, tubs, toilets, and more! It’s important to note that you do not use Castile soap on waxed wood floors because it will break down the wax. If you have product build-up on your floors, consider using a vinegar and hot water solution first.

All-Purpose Cleaner Without Using Vinegar

Ingredients:

 • 1/4 cup 70% isopropyl alcohol
 • 3 drops liquid Castile soap
 • Water
 • 16-ounce glass spray bottle

Instructions:

 • Pour rubbing alcohol into the glass spray bottle and then add the liquid Castile soap.
 • An optional step is to add a few drops of your favorite essential oils.
 • Fill the rest of the bottle with water and screw on the top. Give your bottle a quick shake to combine the ingredients.
 • Spray mixture on your surfaces, wipe, and clean.
