Canned condensed soup is very popular around the holidays. There are also people who enjoy these creamy soups year round, but they are incredibly unhealthy. They are filled with unhealthy fats, excess sodium, added sugars, and too many preservatives to count. If you are vegan or dairy-free and want to enjoy these soups, good luck because they do not really exist. That’s why this article is dedicated to providing you with a how-to guide on how to make vegan condensed soup substitutes.

In this post, we will share all of the best cream of soup tips, tricks, and recipes for gluten-free, vegan versions. When you have these available to you, many culinary feats become possible. You can make vegan pot pies, green bean casserole, and who knows what else. These vegan substitutes will truly enhance your winter comfort food game in more ways than you know.

The key to “veganizing” classical non-vegan casseroles is to use vegan condensed soup substitutes. You can make a big batch and freeze what you don’t need. Whenever you do need some, simply defrost it and it’ll be good to go!

What Is Condensed Soup?

Condensed soup is basically just regular soup that you cook or simmer down until almost all of the water has boiled out. That yields a thick soup that you can later reconstitute with water or milk. Campbell’s Soup Co. created this concept back in 1897, and this revolutionized the soup industry. Condensed cream soups have been the basic recipe of butter, wheat flour, heavy cream, and whatever “cream of” ingredient is in the title, for example, mushroom, broccoli, or chicken.

The vegan substitutes in this article break all the conventional rules. They only contain natural ingredients and they don’t include flour, cream, and butter. Plus, you don’t have to wait hours for your pot of soup to boil down!

What You’ll Need To Make Condensed Soup Substitutes

There are some different recipes in this article, but the basic ingredients you’ll need are as follows:

  • Water
  • Red lentils (dried, not canned), which give the soup that almost gelatinous, “cream of” consistency
  • Flavor, which will depend on the variation you make
  • Raw cashews add great creaminess and fat to condensed soups. You can also replace raw cashews with raw sunflower seeds if you have a nut allergy. Just make sure to add one tablespoon of olive oil to the blender if you use seeds.

How To Make Healthy Vegan Condensed Soup

The process to make the soup is very simple, but the soup can take a little while to set. You can easily make a double batch of condensed soups and freeze some for later. In general, the following steps will yield excellent vegan condensed soups:

  • Step 1: Add all of the ingredients to a medium saucepan and bring to a full boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer (covered) for 10 minutes. You basically want to overcook the lentils and soften the cashews.
  • Step 2: Carefully transfer your soup mixture to a high-speed blender and start blending on low, slowly increasing the speed to blend the ingredients into a creamy consistency.
  • Step 3: Once your mixture is luxuriously creamy, transfer it to three or four eight-ounce mason jars and screw on the lids. Make sure to take precautions as the when you do this and once the soup has completely cooled, press down on the center of the lid to seal the jar tightly.

If you like cinnamon then you clicked on the right article because these candles are better than any air freshener. Cinnamon candles are very simple to make, but they make up for it in their enchanting, fall-themed scent. They will fill your home with the smell of holiday nostalgia or the changing leaves.

The recipe requires soy wax that you will infuse with cassia essential oil. You can add additional flavors to make cinnamon vanilla or cinnamon apple candles, but that will be at your discretion. Not only do these candles go great in your house, but they also make perfect gifts. If you are the type of person that likes to get a head start on holiday gifts, you can experiment with these candles and start setting them aside. Make the decorations extra nice so you don’t have to rush at the last minute!

Cinnamon Candle Benefits

In aromatherapy, cinnamon essential oil helps to reduce feelings of faintness, exhaustion, and depression. Some people use it to help strengthen libido and immunity, while others use it to reduce joint and muscle pain. When you diffuse cinnamon essential oil in indoor environments, the scent naturally deodorizes and freshens the space. The uplifting fragrance carries throughout the space and has a soothing, therapeutic effect. Many aromatherapists recommend cinnamon essential oil if you want to benefit cognitive functions. It also acts as a natural mosquito repellent!

What Is The Best Cinnamon Essential Oil For Candles?

Cinnamon essential oil can come from the leaves or outer bark of the cinnamon tree. There isn’t just one cinnamon essential oil; rather, there are three different cinnamon oils. Here is a quick overview of those oils:

  • Cinnamon Leaf: This comes from distilling the leaves of the Cinnamomum zeylanicum plant. Cinnamon leaf essential oil has a lighter, muskier cinnamon aroma that is akin to clove’s scent, and the color is slightly amber.
  • Cinnamon Bark: This essential oil comes from distilling the bark of the Ceylon cinnamon plant (Cinnamomum zelanicum, Cinnamomum verum). The oil is slightly red-brown in color and has a warm and spicy scent with a strong undertone of cinnamon.
  • Cassia: Steam-distilled from the bark of the cassia tree (Cinnamomum cassia), cassia essential oil is genetically similar to the Ceylon cinnamon plant species. The oil has a slightly sweet cinnamon smell and is golden brown in color.

All of the above oils are perfectly suitable for candle making. We recommend that you choose cassia essential oil because it has a strong aroma with a hint of sweetness that makes it smell like someone baked cinnamon cookies in the house. It is also more affordable than cinnamon bark essential oil. If you already have a cinnamon essential oil that you prefer, please go ahead and use that.

DIY Cinnamon Soy Candles

Ingredients:

  • 4.5 cups soy wax flakes
  • 200 drops cassia essential oil
  • 4 pre-tapped cotton candle wicks
  • 4 (four-ounce) mason jars

Instructions:

  • First off, you have to prep your candle containers. Make sure they are clean, dry, and free of dust. You have to attach the wick to the bottom of the candle container prior to pouring the wax in the jar.
  • To do that, apply hot glue to the bottom of the wick tap and then adhere it to the bottom of the containers. Allow the glue to harden before moving on.
  • To secure the wick, thread it through a wick-centering device, which ensures that the wick stays centered and doesn’t sway when you pour the wax in the jar.
  • Melt your wax in a medium-sized saucepan over low flame. Stir occasionally until the wax is fully melted and then remove from the heat.
  • Allow the wax to cool to 185º F and then add the cassia essential oil. Stir about 30-40 times to properly combine the wax and essential oil.
  • Pour the wax into the candle jars and allow the wax to set at room temperature overnight.
  • For the best cinnamon candle, seal the container and allow your candles to cure for one or two days. That will allow the wax and essential oil to bind together and build a stronger scent.
  • Trim the wick to a half-inch above the wax before burning for the first time. Light and enjoy the aroma.

Do you ever open your drawers or closet and have to step away because of an unpleasant aroma? Your first instinct is to grab the air freshener and liberally spray it all over the culprit area. Not only do air fresheners temporarily mask the scent, but they also pollute your space with harmful chemicals. That is why it’s much safer and more effective to use the all-natural air freshener jars in this article.

The Problem With Commercial Air Fresheners

The problem with many commercial air deodorizers or air fresheners is the long list of toxins. Chemicals in these products, specifically the phthalates, and formaldehyde, can cause rashes, dizziness, headaches, and throat irritation. These chemical compounds are also known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). According to several studies, exposure to VOCs can cause adverse health effects, including loss of coordination, liver damage, and damage to the central nervous system. Researchers identified some VOCs as suspected or proven carcinogens. Long-term exposure to VOCs can also increase the risk of asthma and certain types of cancer.

Formaldehyde, for example, is a common ingredient in many household air fresheners and cleaners. You can also find it in home furnishings, household paints, and certain textiles. That makes formaldehyde very difficult to avoid, but limiting your exposure is an important first step. Unfortunately, phthalates are also problematic VOCs that are in a lot of air freshening products. Phthalates help distribute fragrances, but they also can disrupt the body’s hormone levels, which can affect your overall health and well-being.

The said reality is that products that have “all-natural” on the label can still contain VOCs. Homemade air freshening products, on the other hand, give you full control over what goes into them. We detail the ingredients for the air freshener jars below.

Baking Soda

Sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, is a staple in the non-toxic cleaning world. It is mildly abrasive, eco-friendly, affordable, and great for getting rid of built-up grime. Baking soda is known for its ability to absorb and neutralize unpleasant odors. The “why” behind baking soda’s ability to do this has to do with chemistry. Most smells are acidic in nature, and baking soda works to neutralize pH levels. To put it simply, baking soda’s basic pH is perfect for neutralizing acids that cause foul odors.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil’s aroma is very relaxing and studies show that it can promote better sleep. Various studies also confirmed that lavender has a soothing effect that can reduce stress levels. Another benefit of lavender is that it has properties that may be able to repel certain insects, particularly moths, making it great for closets, dresser drawers, and line closets. You can use both dried lavender and lavender essential oil to maximize the effects of lavender, and make the scent last longer.

Eucalyptus

Similar to baking soda, eucalyptus has an ability to neutralize foul odors in the home. A simple sprig of eucalyptus is enough to create a pleasant aroma in a room. Eucalyptus essential oil is even more powerful, as it is distilled from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. It exhibits anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, which may help combat certain chemicals in the air. Finally, eucalyptus essential oil acts as a natural decongestant when you inhale it, making it great for your home. Who doesn’t want to breathe better when they walk into a room?!

DIY Air Freshener Jars

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1/2 cup dried lavender buds
  • Sprigs of eucalyptus (optional)
  • 20 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil

Instructions:

  • Pour the baking soda into a large bowl and add the dried lavender and optional eucalyptus leaves. Mix well to combine.
  • Add in the essential oils and continue to mix before transferring the mixture into small, wide-mouth mason jars.
  • Use your mason jar lid insert as a guide to trace and cut a circular piece of brown paper bag. Any type of paper will work for this step, for example, wrapping paper or card stock.
  • Using a needle, poke holes into the circular pieces of paper, making sure that you do it over a carpet or towel to protect your counter or desk.
  • Place the circular pieces of paper on the tops of your mason jars and screw on the lids to secure the paper. The tiny holes allow the wonderful aromas to freshen up your space.

While these get labeled as the “hipster cups,” Mason jars have been around for many generations. They have been used to preserve fruits/vegetables or to pickle different food items. People still use them to preserve foods, but they also use them as dressing containers, smoothie vessels, meal prep containers, or water cups.

One of the coolest parts about preserving food is that you can have the different flavors of summer in winter or vice versa. The game changed for food preservation when John Landis Mason made a patent, which was an improvement in screwneck bottles, known as the Mason jar. Home canning became much more sanitary and safe from harmful bacteria. This invention helped gardeners stock their pantries and preserve their harvested crops to sell in their communities. One thing to note about Mason is that he didn’t make any money off his patented invention. The patent expired in 1879, 21 years after the patent was issued. Competing brands didn’t start making Mason jars until after 1879, so he saw none of the profits.

Mason Jar Fact: The most notable Mason jar brand in existence is Ball Canning, which began manufacturing jars in 1884. According to present day numbers, the company makes 17 jars per second.

In case you are wondering what to do for National Mason Jar Day, we have some awesome ideas. If you enjoy fermented foods, check out the video in the article about how to start fermenting your own vegetables. It’s a lot easier than you think!

In case you haven’t noticed, people are dying from the flu at the moment. Whether it is flu season or not, you need to take action so that you can avoid getting sick. One of the best ways to do this is to make sure that your immune system is functioning optimally. A weakened immune system, or an immune system that doesn’t function the way it should, can make you more prone to viruses, skin problems or stomach pain, and even frequent heartburn.

We want to help keep you healthy, safe, and virus-free, which is why we have put together a few natural remedies that can have a positive impact on your immune system. Some of these things may be different from what you are used to, but they are better than getting sick or taking whatever medications you see in commercials.

The Master Tonic

This has some incredible healing properties that can help improve circulation, purify your blood, and remedy your lymphatic system. We have to warn you, though, that it is a very potent herbal remedy. Here are a couple things to know before consuming this natural antibiotic.

  1. Wear rubber gloves and a paper mask when making this Master Tonic because the peppers are quite intense.
  2. If the flavor of this liquid is too potent, try eating an orange, lemon, or lime slice to help out your taste buds and cool your mouth.

Ingredients for the Master Tonic

  • 1 liter organic apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup garlic, finely diced
  • ¼ cup onion, finely diced
  • 2 fresh peppers, hottest you can find
  • 2 Tbsp. grated horseradish
  • 2 Tbsp. turmeric powder
  • 5 liter glass mason jar

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients, excluding the vinegar, in a large mixing bowl. Mix it up and then pour the mixture into a mason jar.
  • Pour the apple cider vinegar into the mason jar, seal the jar, and shake it up. Store this in a cool, dry place (like a cupboard) for 2 weeks, shaking it up a couple times a day, everyday.
  • After two weeks, strain the juice from the jar into another vessel that you can drink from. You can use the remaining mixture to cook with.

Elderberry Syrup To Boost Immunity

Elderberries are widely known for their ability to boost the immune system and help the body fight off bacteria or viruses. In fact, elderberry is commonly used in the flu vaccine. In addition to providing allergy relief, elderberries can also be used to help lower blood pressure, aid digestion, and even slow cancer cell growth.

Word to the Wise: Few species of elderberry are actually edible, which is why it is important to get elderberries from a credible, licensed store. Don’t go into the woods and pluck whatever resembles an elderberry because it could be deathly poisonous.

What You Need To Make An Elderberry Tincture

  • 2/3 cup dried elderberries
  • 5 cups filtered water
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • ½ teaspoon clove powder
  • 1 cup organic raw honey

Instructions

  • Combine everything except for the honey in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Once it is boiling, reduce heat to a low simmer for 45 minutes so that the liquid reduces by about half.
  • Remove from the heat and carefully mash the berries in the pan. Strain through a mesh strainer into a glass jar.
  • Once it is lukewarm, stir in the honey. You can store this airtight glass jar in the fridge and take it daily.
  • Children can take ½ teaspoon or 1 teaspoon of the syrup and adults can take ½ tablespoon or 1 tablespoon once a day. If you get hit with the flu, take these respective measurements every 3 hours.

Supercharge Your Immune System With This Drink

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup organic raw honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 cups filtered water

Instructions

  • Put the filtered water in a saucepan over medium heat and warm until it is steaming. Remove from the heat and stir in the honey until dissolved.
  • Add the turmeric, apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper and mix well. Let this cool before pouring into a large glass jar. Cover it and leave it in the fridge to cool overnight.
  • Drink one cup of this after your morning glass of water.

Common Cold Killer Juice

Take a shot of this juice about three times a day when you feel a cold coming on. It can give your immune system the healthy boost that it needs to fight off viruses.

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges, cubed
  • 3 lemons, cubed
  • 3-4 inch piece of ginger, peeled
  • pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Process the orange pieces, lemon pieces, and ginger through the juicer. Stir in the cayenne pepper once the juice has been dispensed into a cup. If you need a little sweetness, add about one teaspoon of raw agave syrup.

Mason jars salads are not only convenient, space-efficient ways to have prepped meals, but they are also super cool and trendy. The concept behind the mason jar salad is to place the entire contents of the salad (including the dressing) in the jar without having to worry about everything getting soggy or wilted. You can use large or small mason jars depending on the size of the salad you want to consume.

When it comes to cleansing, it is important to learn what flavors work together. Mangos and avocados taste good with arugula and cucumbers, while apples and raw almond butter are a match made in flavor heaven. We know that it can be difficult to leave old flavors and foods behind, but it is important to experiment with new foods to see what food possibilities are out there.

When it comes to meal prepping salads, it can be difficult because you usually have to pack the dressing in a separate container or bring it with you in a jar. This isn’t the case with mason jar salads because everything is ready to go in one jar. While we are only detailing one recipe in this article, you can use other salad recipes in the Full Body Cleanse Approved recipe section to diversify your flavors for the week. Not only that, this style of meal prep is something you’ll have with you for life after cleansing. Living a healthier life is all about knowing your flavor combinations and adopting methods and tricks that make it easy to live healthily.

Important Structure of Mason Jar Salads

Yes, there is a specific order you need to follow in order to keep your salads as fresh as possible, especially if you are prepping them for the week. A little tip is to use a wide mouth mason jar to make your life easy. First off, the dressing always goes in first so that it can rest at the bottom. Then you can add ingredients like apples, radishes, celery, or nuts. Finally, the dry ingredients like greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, or carrots go on top.

Ingredients For 1 Mason Jar Salad

For the Salad:

  • 3 c mixed greens, rinsed
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 radish, thinly sliced
  • ¼ c green apple, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 c raw walnuts

For the Dressing:

  • 1/4 c raw almond butter
  • 1/4 c freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 minced fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 chili flakes
  • 1 liquid aminos
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1/4 c water

Instructions

  • Combine all of the dressing ingredients in a blender and blend until you get a smooth consistency. Set aside.
  • After prepping everything for the salad, pour 2 tablespoons of the dressing in the bottom of a wide mouth 16oz. mason jar.
  • Working from the bottom up, layer the apples, radishes, celery, and then the walnuts. Pack the greens on top and seal the jar. This salad will keep for 3-4 days in the fridge.
  • When you are ready to eat, pour the salad into a bowl and mix it all up. If you want to shake it up in the jar, add one tablespoon of warm water to help loosen up the dressing. Enjoy!

If you are trying to remain on a healthy path, it can be difficult if you are not prepared. It is not what you need to be prepared for; rather, it is what you need to have prepared. Eating healthy is a little more difficult than grabbing some fast food meal on your way home from work, but it doesn’t have to be. You can eat healthy every day when you have meals planned and already made.

Have you tried meal prepping? Some people like the idea of meal prepping, but they try to do too much when starting out. This can be exhausting and cause you to not want to prep meals anymore. The key to successful meal prep is to gradually ease yourself into it. Meal prepping does not have to be intimidating or hard. In fact, it can make your life a whole lot easier.

What To Prep?

When it comes to prepping, you do your work ahead of time to avoid the stress of preparing a meal. You will pre-cut and wash all of your ingredients (well, not everything), and package them in a way that makes them ready to go. We are focusing on non-cooked meal prep, which is actually the best introduction to prepping, for this article.

The easiest things to prep would have to be smoothies or overnight oats. For the smoothies, you just fill Ziploc bags or Tupperware with smoothie ingredients, throw the contents of one bag/container in the blender to blend with some water when ready, and there you have your smoothie. If you are fine making your smoothies from scratch in the mornings, you might be more interested in lunch or dinnertime salad prep. Follow the instructions in the links below to successfully prep your meals.

January is the month resolutions. Most people want to save money, go to the gym more often, quit smoking, or live a healthier lifestyle. Whatever the resolution, becoming a new and improved version of the self is usually the end goal. The sad truth is that most of these resolutions are hard to stick with because they are such drastic changes to one’s life. Let’s break that mold and make resolutions that’ll have long-lasting success.

When it comes to eating healthier, overhauling the entire house is not the right move. By thinking that you have to change every aspect of your life, you set yourself up for failure. It is better to focus on one thing and then slowly implement other changes into your life. This is the best way you can sustain a resolution. Rather than saying, “I’m going to get rid of all the food in my house,” try saying, “ I’m going to work on buying more fruits and vegetables and less processed foods.”

It’s all about building on your momentum. One of the best things you can do is to stop eating out for lunch. Sometimes the stress of work, or even deciding where to eat lunch, can make you decide on unhealthy lunch options. This is why it is best to meal prep your lunches for the week. You can guarantee that your lunch will be healthy, and you have one less thing to worry about.

What will you bring for your healthy packed lunch? We have a delicious recipe for southwest salads that you can prep on Sunday, and then store them in the fridge in 5 mason jars so they are ready to go for the each workday.

Ingredients

For the Salad

  • 2 heads Romaine lettuce, washed & sliced
  • 2 cans of organic black beans
  • 6 ears of corn, husked
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced

For the Dressing

  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 3 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  • Open the cans of black beans and pour them into a saucepan over medium heat. Slice all of the kernels off the ears of corn and add it to the saucepan with the beans. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, remove from the heat, and let it cool.
  • While the beans and corn are cooking, prep the rest of the salad ingredients.
  • After prepping the salad ingredients, add all of the dressing ingredients to a blender and pulse until thoroughly combined.
  • Now it’s time to layer the salads in the mason jars. Pour about 2 tablespoons of dressing into the bottom of each jar. Then add 1/3 cup of the black bean & corn mixture. Add ¼ cup of tomatoes and then fill the rest of the jars with lettuce. Cover the jars and your lunches are set for the week. All you have to do is shake it up and dig in when you want to eat them! Remember to store them in the fridge.
