Next, add chopped beet, but make sure to peel it because that will help reduce the earthy flavor. Beets provide unique antioxidants, which give them their signature dark red color. They also contain folate and nitrites, which the body converts to nitric oxide. In the body, nitric oxide helps to relax blood vessels, increase oxygen and nutrient delivery, and improve muscle efficiency.

The remaining ingredients are carrots and spinach, which we classify as the hidden vegetables in this smoothie. We’ve made some tropical smoothies before, but this recipe takes the cake! After you take one sip, you’ll feel as though you are on an island, lounging by the beach. We have a confession to make, and it’s that adding dragon fruit to a smoothie is mainly for our social media videos. In fact, you’ll soon find the video for this recipe on our YouTube channel and Instagram. It’s an exotic fruit that looks like a poppyseed cake on the inside. Dragon fruit exhibits somewhat of a sweeter flavor profile, but it doesn’t have a strong flavor. Many people find it difficult to articulate exactly how it tastes, but it is an enjoyable fruit to eat. Make sure to discard the skin, as you do not want to add that to your smoothie. Additionally, dragon fruit is very low in calories, rich in fiber, and high in vitamin C and iron.

The banana provides both sweetness and creaminess, while the mango comes to the forefront with the signature sweet and mildly tart flavor. And then you have the lime juice, which may seem like an odd choice, but it takes this smoothie to another level. If it didn’t have the lime juice, it may not have made it on the website! We only have room for delicious recipes, people. The last thing to keep in mind is that it’s best to freeze the dragon fruit, banana, and mango prior to making the smoothie, but you don’t have to do that. Simply add ice if you choose not to freeze your fruit.

The banana complements the inherent sweetness of both the mango and carrots, and the freshly squeezed orange juice brightens up the party with a citrusy flare. Orange juice is the liquid ingredient for this recipe. No need for homemade almond milk or filtered water! For maximum sweetness, choose Cara Cara oranges for juicing. You can thank us later because the juice will change your life.

Another interesting and flavorful option is to juice blood oranges, but that will provide a slightly more citrus-forward flavor in your smoothie. Last but not least, peel and chop the carrots and then freeze them overnight. If you don’t want to freeze the carrots, you can peel, slice, and freeze the banana overnight. Whichever method you choose, you will have a tasty, nutrient-dense smoothie.

In addition to a balanced flavor profile, this smoothie also contains lots of protein and healthy fats. The fats come from four ingredients: avocados, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and homemade almond milk. While hemp seeds and chia seeds are great options, you can use other substitutes if they aren’t available to you. Great substitutes for these two ingredients include flax seeds or pumpkin seeds.

In regards to using fresh or frozen ingredients, that is entirely up to you. We encourage you to freeze the banana and mango chunks overnight to give the smoothie texture. If you don’t want to freeze your ingredients, you can always add your desired amount of ice to the smoothie.
