Sometimes you have a salad prepared, but there is no dressing in sight. Sure, you can whip up a quick apple cider vinaigrette in a matter of minutes, but sometimes your taste buds require something more elevated. Enter this cilantro lime dressing. The truth is that a salad dressing is 50% (if not more) of a salad. A terrible dressing will ruin a salad, no matter the salad ingredients. Not every dressing goes with every salad, though. Sometimes, though, you find a dressing that seems to go great with every salad recipe, and that is how we feel about this dressing.

The great thing about this cilantro dressing is that you can use it on a raw vegan salad, pasta salad, a bowl of quinoa, a marinade for wild caught fish, or as a dipping sauce for roasted vegetables. In a normal recipe, you’d see Greek yogurt or sour cream on the ingredient list. Because this is a raw vegan recipe, we used avocado to achieve the same creaminess that those ingredients would be used for. Additionally, we added some fresh jalapeño to kick up the spice just a hair. If you are a bit timid around spicy food, you can omit this ingredient. Curious about a little spice? De-seed the jalapeño and then add it to the blender with the rest of the ingredients.

With spring approaching, this is the perfect dressing to have in your pocket of recipes. It goes great with refreshing salads that have sweet, tangy, and slightly bitter ingredients. Because it has avocado, you’ll consume a lot of healthy fats along with your salad, which helps fill you up: a crucial thing to keep in mind if you are cleansing. Finally, make sure that you consume this dressing within three to four days for optimum freshness.

A lime vinaigrette goes great on a lot of Mexican-themed salads or bowls. Whether the base of your entree is a bed of leafy greens or quinoa and black beans, this dressing will wake up the ingredients. By that, we mean that the acidity of the lime juice and pungent nuttiness of the cumin make your bowl or salad come alive. Plus, you can easily whip up a batch of this dressing in a pinch; you just need the ingredients and a jar.

Unfortunately, you cannot rely on your blender to do the majority of the work for you when making this dressing. Well, you can if you want, but the dressing will turn a vibrant green. We prefer the different textures that this lime vinaigrette has, especially when you get some finely diced jalapeño and chopped cilantro in your salad bite. Don’t worry, though, this vinaigrette is far from the spiciest thing you’ll eat. Although there is some spice, the lime juice and maple syrup do a great job to cut the heat. After all, this dressing calls for the juice of three to four limes, so the flavor is quite zesty.

Once you prepare all of the ingredients, add all of them to a jar, seal the lid, and shake well to combine. Make sure to refrigerate for about 15 minutes before using for optimum flavor. Allowing the jalapeño and garlic to sit in the lime concoction helps to cut the spice of the jalapeño and the allium flavor of raw garlic. Just make sure to give the dressing a good shake before you dress your salads or bowls.

This is an easy dressing that you’ll want to put on every salad. Although it has a spicy kick, this vinaigrette bursts with herbaceous, zesty flavors. And if there is one thing we know…it’s flavor. This vinaigrette is an unusual departure from the traditional dressings you know and love, but that is why we love it. We are of the mind that you need to experiment with as many flavors and foods as possible. So if you bought a jalapeño and can’t figure out how to use it, try this recipe. Plus, it works great as a dipping sauce or marinade!

When it comes to dressings, it is essential to know the foundation of what makes a great vinaigrette. Whether you make a classically simple variation or an exciting one like this, you will usually find similar ingredients in all recipes, most of which include:

  • Olive oil: Any vinaigrette worth its salt will have a great oil that binds the ingredients together. You can use avocado oil or grapeseed oil, but olive oil is an excellent choice.
  • Acid: Acid usually comes in the form of vinegar or citrus. Sometimes, you use a little of both, as is the case in this recipe.
  • Salt and pepper: A must-have duo for dressings, plain and simple.
  • Herbs: Fresh cilantro in a dressing is a game changer, but you usually see chives, parsley, basil, or oregano as common vinaigrette ingredients.
  • Garlic or onions: Because raw garlic and onion have a strong flavor, use a light hand with these ingredients, so you don’t overwhelm the dressing. You can always use garlic powder or onion powder for a more mild flavor.

Melons and berries disappear from the grocery store during the winter, meaning that apples, citrus, and more apples are left. It’s a great practice to take what new seasons give you and incorporate those ingredients into your diet. In the case of this winter fruit salad, for example, you will use seasonal pomegranates, apples, mandarins, and kiwis.

A lot of people think that citrus fruits are the richest sources of vitamin C, but kiwis pack a more powerful vitamin C punch. For example, a regular kiwi contains twice as much vitamin C as the average clementine/mandarin. Pomegranates also contain vitamin C, but not as much as clementines. Plus, the fresh lime juice that you toss the ingredients in also offers vitamin C. All of this is to say that you need not worry about your vitamin C intake when you enjoy this refreshing fruit salad on a cold winter morning.

It seems odd to dress a fruit salad, but trust us when we tell you that it is a pro move. The sweetness of the agave and intense zest of the fresh lime juice accentuate the flavors in this fruit salad. Your taste buds may not know what to do with all the flavor! If you go out on a sunny winter day, this is the perfect dish to pack for a picnic as well.

How do you keep your taste buds interested in salads? The simple answer is that you have to change up the salad ingredients and the dressing. Now, there are salads that you can enjoy over and over again without boring your taste buds. The same statement applies for dressings, especially if they hit sweet, acidic, and slightly tart notes. We feel that the dressing for this salad is wonderfully zesty and sweet, complementing the tropical mango and nutty cashews.

The salad base is baby spinach, which is just young spinach that farmers harvest during the early stages of growth. Generally speaking, farmers harvest the leaves between 15-35 days after planting. According to food experts, baby spinach exhibits a sweeter flavor profile than mature spinach, making this green more enjoyable for those who opposed bitter greens. Don’t worry, baby spinach is far different in flavor from chard, turnip greens, or arugula.

Our main goal with this salad was to make it enjoyable for summer. That means that it had to be refreshing, so incorporating mangos and a citrus dressing was paramount. You’ll notice that both the salad and the dressing only have a select number of ingredients as well. All that means is that we are showcasing the natural flavors of the ingredients!

The heat of summer can often inspire general fatigue. All you want to do is live in a safe haven from the dry or humid heat. Often times, this is your home, which begs an important question. Why should you spend time baking food in the oven or spend hours over the stove cooking meals? Not only does this make your air-conditioning work harder, but it also causes you to lose interest in the hot food. What can be done?

If you’re looking to beat summer heat, try your hand at some no-cook recipes. Instead of a hearty stew, consider a refreshing salad with summer fruits and vegetables. Avoid heavy dairy desserts that cause bloating and opt for homemade sorbets that cool you off. Lettuce wraps, smoothies, raw soups, and vegetable noodle recipes are lighter, cooling meal options. They won’t weigh you down or cause sweating, unless you kick up the spice level

The following recipes are all raw vegan, meaning that they are great for anyone participating in one of the many Dherbs cleanses. If you are not ready to transition to this type of eating plan, feel free to add pre-cooked legumes to your salads or entrees. If you opt for canned legumes, please pay attention to ingredients labels. Many of these canned varieties can easily cause people to exceed the recommended daily amount of sodium. Fortunately, there are sodium-free or low-sodium varieties that are much healthier options.

To start you on your no-cook summer meal marathon, here are seven recipes that will keep you feeling fresh in the summer heat.

Kale Salad With Almonds, Cranberries And Apples

Boost your nutrient intake by enjoying this raw vegan kale salad that’s perfectly balanced with apples, cranberries, and a tart vinaigrette. Kale is naturally bitter and has an assertive flavor. For this reason, sweet ingredients like apples and dried cranberries work well in kale salads.

Tahini is one of the best salad dressing bases if you enjoy creamy dressings. It has that nutty quality from the sesame seeds, but it also adds extra oil. That means that you don’t always need additional oil. Because tahini creates that thicker dressing that you see in ranch or ranch-like dressings, you can use the dressing as a dip for vegetables.

For the dressing in this recipe, you have the addition of zesty lime juice, aromatic cilantro, and spicy garlic. It’s very easy to make this dressing because you simply throw all of the ingredients into a blender, hit blend, and pour over your salad. We’re talking about a minimal ingredient list that creates amazing flavor combinations and sensations. Let’s stop talking about it and make this dressing because we are salivating over here!
