It’s safe to say that nothing in this world is certain, especially after a two-year pandemic, supply chain shortages, and new coronavirus variants. Despite all of this, the world prevailed and people are excited to see what happens next, especially in the world of food and nutrition. There are many exciting innovations coming to the market, and health experts have a few predictions you can look forward to.

More and more people seem to understand how their eating habits affect both everyday and long-term healthy. Because of this realization, many health experts predict that these decisions will shape food and nutrition trends in 2022. Continue reading to see what you can look forward to in the health world next year.

More Superfood Lattes

From mushroom coffee and adaptogen add-ins to turmeric lattes, it’s safe to say that people enjoy superfood additions to their morning coffees. Matcha sales grew 5% over the past year and online searchers for turmeric lattes grew 39%. The superfood latte market continues to grow, offering readymade mixes to easily make these drinks at home. Dietitians only see this trend growing into 2022, especially since more people are aware of the health benefits these drinks offer. You don’t have to hop on the mushroom spirulina coffee train, but you can expect to see new and exciting creations.

More Brain Food

Eating for your brain or mental health was paramount during the last couple years, especially with increasing rates of anxiety and depression. More research also came out surrounding the connection between mental health and diet. Many dietitians believe this trend comes from a growing interest in self-care and more awareness about mental health. People also have an interest in longevity and mental acuity, two things that require optimal nutritional intake. You’ll most likely see more articles and diets focused on keeping you sharp and preventing cognitive decline.

More Immunity Support

If the pandemic taught people anything, it was the importance of the immune system. Not only did this become a trend in 2021, but it will also continue to evolve in 2022, with more people focusing on immune-optimizing foods and supplements. In order to develop immune resilience, you have to train and maintain peak immune system performance. This is why experts foresee a larger emphasis on vitamins C & D, in addition to quercetin, all of which benefit immune function. Ginger turmeric shots, green drinks, and other immune-friendly options will definitely receive more attention in 2022.

More Kelp And Seaweed

Kelp and seaweed have existed in various cuisines and cultures for quite some time. The reason that you can expect to see an increase in kelp- or seaweed-integrated foods is because of the environmental factor. Farming kelp pulls carbon out of the atmosphere, and it’s also a nutrient-dense, plant-based food. According to 2021 statistics, kelp and seaweed articles and recipes increased 54%.

More Interest In Gut Health

Probiotic supplements, fermented foods, kombucha, and other gut-friendly foods will continue to grow well into 2022. The interest in gut health extends beyond the average person. In fact, the medical community has a great interest in the gut-lung axis. Like many other parts of the body, the lungs have their own microbiome, but it’s not as diverse as the one in the gut. New research, however, revealed a connection between gut microbiome and the lungs, also known as the gut-lung axis. A healthy gut benefits the immune system, but it may also be essential for fighting off infections in the lungs as well. A new study found a connection between gut health and lung health. Five probiotic strands were able to reduce symptoms of viral upper respiratory tract infections by 27%, according to clinical trials. This opens the door to probiotics and prebiotics benefiting the lungs and other organs.

The Best Vegan Sources Of Iodine And Why You Need This Mineral https://www.dherbs.com/articles/diet-nutrition/the-best-vegan-sources-of-iodine-and-why-you-need-this-mineral/ Wed, 02 Dec 2020 08:56:00 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?p=119515

Found in many plant-based foods, iodine is an essential mineral that the thyroid needs to produce thyroid hormones, which control metabolism.

The post The Best Vegan Sources Of Iodine And Why You Need This Mineral appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Iodine is an essential mineral that is easily attainable through your diet. Without sufficient iodine intake, the thyroid cannot produce hormones, which affect many bodily functions. Thyroid hormones work to regulate metabolism and assist with bone and brain development during pregnancy and infancy. If you don’t meet the recommended daily intake (RDI) of iodine, which is 150 micrograms (mcg) for most adults, you will need to supplement.

What Is Iodine And Why Do You Need It?

Roughly one third of the world’s population is deficient in iodine. People who live in areas with soil that has low iodine content (many countries in Europe and United Kingdom) often fail to consume the RDI of iodine. When the body doesn’t have enough iodine, the thyroid cannot make enough thyroid hormones, which maintain healthy cells and normal metabolic rate. Pregnant women require more iodine (about 240-300 mcg per day) because it supports fetal brain and skeletal development. You don’t need an excessive amount of iodine because too much can negatively impact your health. Do not exceed 1,100 mcg per day, which is 7.3 times the RDI.

Why Is Salt Iodized?

In the early 1900s, many people experienced iodine deficiency. The reason for this was because iodine could only be found in saltwater fish and grains grown in iodine-rich soil. For landlocked residents, particularly in the middle of the country, obtaining those foods was near impossible. In an effort to combat this deficiency, the government began fortifying salt with iodine in 1924.

Nowadays, it’s very easy to get iodine from a variety of plant-based foods. We’ve detailed the best vegan sources of iodine below.

Wakame

This popular seaweed has a slightly sweet flavor, and it is popularly used to make miso soup. The amount of iodine in wakame will depend on where it grows. For example, wakame from New Zealand and Australia has less iodine than wakame from Asia. A collection of studies found that wakame generally averages to about 66 mcg per gram, which amounts to 44% of the RDI.

Potatoes

These starchy root vegetables are beneficial for your health, so long as you don’t solely eat them in French fry form. They contain healthy amounts of vitamins B6 and C, and one medium Idaho potato contains about 60 mcg of iodine. You can steam, sauté, roast, or boil and mash potatoes to get the iodine.

Kombu Kelp

Kombu kelp is a brown seaweed that’s either sold in fresh sheets or dried in the form of a fine powder. One sheet of kombu kelp can contain up to 2,984 mcg of iodine, which is 2,000% of the RDI. Now, this is an excessive amount, which can be dangerous for people with existing thyroid problems, but you can consume a little to meet the RDI. One study examined the iodine content in various seaweeds from different Asian countries. The results determined that kombu kelp had the highest amount.

Navy Beans

Which navy beans are the strongest? The seals, obviously! Bad jokes aside, navy beans got their name because they were one of the most common foods eaten by sailors. While they are rich in iron, folate, fiber, and potassium, navy beans also contain 32 mcg of iodine per 1/2 cup. You can add them to soups, stir-fries, stews, and more.

Cranberries

We aren’t talking about Craisins and we are definitely not talking about canned cranberries. Fresh cranberries contain beneficial polyphenols and antioxidants that exhibit anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. They also contain 400 mcg of iodine per four ounces. They are abundant during the fall and winter months because that is when they are in season. Get your hands on them to increase your iodine levels!

Dulse

Yes, we included another seaweed on this list, but seaweeds happen to be the best sources of iodine for vegans. Dulse is a red algae that contains a lot of minerals, including iron, potassium, and vitamin B6. It’s cholesterol- and fat-free and contains 1,169 mcg of iodine per 7 grams. You can season foods with dulse instead of salt if you need a little more acidity.

The Internet is filled with valuable information, but it’s also replete with nonsense and false claims. This is especially true for dietary information and healthy eating. It can be very tricky to “eat the right foods” that optimize gut health. All you need to know is that two food groups promote a healthier gut: prebiotics and probiotics.

Prebiotics And Probiotics

Prebiotics naturally occur in various fruits and vegetables and they are non-digestible food components. They work to promote healthy bacteria in the gut, but they themselves are not beneficial bacteria. Probiotics, on the other hand, are good bacteria or live cultures that exist in the gut. Probiotics and prebiotics are the dynamic duo of gut health, working synergistically to restore balanced gastrointestinal health. When you eat probiotic and prebiotic foods, you create a healthier body.

When the good bacteria outnumber the bad bacteria in your gut, you can experience improved immunity, better gastrointestinal health, higher energy levels, and a reduced risk of irritable bowel syndrome. Be sure to include the following foods in your diet and your gut will thank you.

Cruciferous Vegetables

There’s always room at the table for cruciferous vegetables. These fiber-rich veggies have diverse nutritional profiles that benefit your entire body. Additionally, they contain glucosinolates, which the body breaks down and releases substances that reduce inflammation as a result. Glucosinolates are magical because they bind to carcinogenic intruders and force them to exit the gut. Great cruciferous vegetabes to consume include kale, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, broccoli, arugula, and Brussels sprouts.

Miso

There are lower rates of bowel disease and higher rates of better gut health in regions where miso is a staple in peoples’ diets. Made from fermented soya beans, miso contains beneficial probiotic strains and enzymes that promote healthy gut bacteria.

Fermented Foods

Miso, which is listed above, falls into this category, as does kombucha (coming later in the article). Some fermented foods just deserve a little more attention than others. The great thing about fermented foods is that they supply your gut with tons of beneficial microorganisms. By consuming probiotic-rich foods, you increase the presence of good bacteria in the gut, which can improve your body’s ability to absorb minerals. Great fermented foods to consume include kimchi, sauerkraut, miso, fermented vegetables, kefir, and kombucha.

Low-Fructose Fruit

When you eat a lot of fruit, especially fruit with high fructose content, you can commonly experience bloating. If you are prone to gas and bloating, it is wise to decrease your fructose intake. To decrease your fructose intake, eliminate pears, mangos, and apples from your diet. Now, people enjoy fruit and we aren’t asking you to give up fruit forever; rather, focus on fruits with low fructose levels. The best fruits to consume include berries, citrus fruits, and bananas, which actually contain inulin, a prebiotic that increases beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Seaweed

Sea vegetables like kelp, wakame, or spirulina are some of the best superfoods to get your hands on. They contain a long list of nutrients, including fiber. According to a study involving Japanese women, high seaweed intake increased the presense of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Another study examined the health benefits of alginate, a substance in brown seaweed. Alginate worked to slow digestion, making food release energy more slowly, and it also strengthened gut mucus.

Kombucha

The high probiotic content of kombucha is extremely beneficial for gut health. People who regularly drink kombucha have been known to reduce abdominal disorders, including constipation and diarrhea. Additionally, probiotics play a role in how your body processes food, absorbs nutrients, as well as how your metabolism and immune system function. Finally, kombucha contains glucosamine, which stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, a substance that lubricates joints.

Legumes

Legumes are rich in fiber, protein, and short-chain fatty acids that help to improve your intestinal cells. Beans feed your gut bacteria and they work to improve the body’s ability to absorb micronutrients. If you really want to do your gut a favor, start eating fermented beans like chickpeas, miso, and lacto-fermented lentils.

From low-carb and no sugar diets to adding mushroom powder to your coffee and cayenne to your lemonade, keeping up with new health trends can be difficult and exhausting. How can know which diet to follow when new diets and trends keep popping up every other week? Well, our advice remains the same: always focus on nutrient-dense, plant-based foods and avoid pre-packaged processed foods whenever possible. You’ll find some of the newest healthy foods to add to your diet in this article.

Chaga Mushrooms

Resembling a clump of dirt, the chaga mushroom is a parasitic fungus that is commonly found on birch trees in the northern hemisphere. Nutritionists advocate the addition of chaga mushroom to your diet because of the diverse nutritional profile. Containing vitamin D, zinc, potassium, fiber, amino acids, rubidium, iron, manganese, magnesium, copper, selenium, and B-complex vitamins, chaga mushrooms have been known to prevent cell damage, reduce bad cholesterol, fight inflammation, boost immune function, and slow the signs of aging. It is available as a supplement and in the form of herbal tea or coffee. The right dosage will depend on your health and what you are trying to accomplish.

Nutritional Yeast

Nutritional yeast is what vegans commonly use to add an umami or cheesy flavor to various recipes. Instead of using flour or fats to thicken sauces, people can use nutritional yeast. It can also be sprinkled on air-popped popcorn for a healthy, cheesy snack. Nutritional yeast is praised for the B-vitamin content, helping people who don’t eat meat satisfy the necessary B12 intake. Vitamin B12 helps to boost energy levels and the other minerals may assist with lowering cholesterol. Additionally, it is rich in manganese, molybdenum, zinc, selenium, and all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot produce on its own.

Kamut

Available at health food stores and certain grocery stores around the country, kamut is an Egyptian grain that has 30% more protein than wheat. Some people with wheat intolerances or allergies have been able to consume kamut, but not everyone can do this so consult with your primary physician before diving face first into a bowl of this grain. It has a nutty flavor and it is rich in protein, fiber, B-vitamins, selenium, and manganese, a mineral that the body needs to help with amino acid utilization. One serving of kamut can satisfy your recommended daily intake of selenium (55 micrograms per day), which helps to protect the body from cell membrane damage and genetic mutations.

Sugar Kelp

Kale isn’t the only dark green that deserves the spotlight in the world of healthy foods. Within recent years, a sustainable seafood purveyor worked with GreenWave, a small company of ocean farmers that protect the sea, to develop the crop known as sugar kelp. The growth has been rapid and long lines of sugar kelp grow and are harvested in vertical columns like oysters. Sugar kelp is rich in potassium, iodine, magnesium, zinc, calcium, copper, chromium, and vitamins A, B1, B2, D, and E. It can be dried and eaten as a snack or added to broths, stews, or salads. People are predicting that sugar kelp will open the doorway to the tens of thousands of beneficial sea vegetables already in existence.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are commonly used for their pungent flavor, brightening curries and adding an almost maple like flavor to sauces or condiments. One important thing to note is that toasting the seeds in a dry frying pan over medium heat helps to release the flavor, but you can also grind them into a powder to add to teas or homemade baked goods. Traditionally, lactating mothers have consumed fenugreek seeds to stimulate milk production, while others have consumed them to improve digestion, kidney function, and skin disorders like eczema.

Sugar is addictive. Not only does it make you crave more sugary things, but it can also cause you to develop cravings for other unhealthy, typically processed snacks. Did you know that Berkeley, CA became the first city in America to put a tax on sugary drinks in attempt to control soft drink consumption? This was in 2014.

There are a lot of things that can cause you to crave sugar. Some believe that hormonal changes are the sole cause, while others attribute these cravings to things like stress, adrenal fatigue, parasites, food allergies, Candida, and bacterial infections. Food allergies seem like an odd thing to cause sugar cravings, but it is common to crave what you are allergic to. It isn’t impossible to get rid of these cravings, though.

Eating a lot of sugar can cause you to experience symptoms like fatigue, cloudy thoughts, weakened immune system, and inflamed joints. Excessive sugar consumption can also lead to imbalanced blood sugar levels.

Fun Fact: Sugar does not cause diabetes. Eating animal based products, which are loaded with fat and hormones, is the real cause of diabetes.

Eat More Sea Vegetables

Eating sugar works against your body by depleting it of minerals. It is beneficial to eat sea vegetables like kelp or spirulina because they have a high mineral count. Blend some spirulina in your smoothies and you won’t develop those sugar cravings.

Go Natural

There are so many sugars and artificial sweeteners out there, and they all harm your body. Instead, try using stevia, which has zero calories and works to regulate blood sugar levels. Stevia is your best bet because you only need a little to sweeten something. You can also use raw agave syrup, grade B maple syrup, or organic dates (more so used in baking) to sweeten things.

Avoid Processed Foods

This is probably the most important thing you can do to get rid of sugar cravings. Processed foods, which can include sugary foods, are just as addictive as drugs like heroin or cocaine. When you eat these foods, dopamine levels rise and fall very quickly, making you want to feel pleasant and good again; that ultimately leads to sugar addiction.

2 Ingredient Coconut Mints To Stop Cravings

Ingredients:

 • ½ cup organic coconut butter
 • 2 teaspoons organic peppermint extract
 • silicone ice tray with small slots to freeze mints

Instructions:

 • Melt the coconut butter in a double broiler. If you don’t have one of those, just place a metal mixing bowl on a pot filled with boiling water.
 • Once the butter is melted, add the peppermint extract and thoroughly combine. Remove from the heat and pour the mixture into the silicone ice tray.
 • Let the mints set in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes. You can then pop the mints out and store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy when you feel a craving coming on.

]]>

Cancer is defined by the National Cancer Institute as a disease “in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems.”

There are actually more than 100 different types of cancer, which are usually named for the organ or cell-type where the disease starts. That said, cancer is organized into these categories:

 • Carcinoma – cancer that starts in the skin
 • Sarcoma – cancer that starts in the bone or musculo-skeletal system
 • Leukemia – cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as bone marrow
 • Lymphoma or myeloma – cancer that starts in the lymph system or immune system
 • Central nervous system – cancer that starts in the brain, spinal column or nervous system

Tumors exist in two states: benign and malignant. Benign means “not fatal or pernicious.” Malignant means “highly injurious, pernicious or fatal.”

More than 1.6 million people are diagnosed with some type of cancer each year. Of those, more than 577,000 will die.

Causes and Risk Factors

No one really knows why some people get cancer and others don’t, so discussion is generally more focused on risk factors. Known risk factors are:

 • Age
 • Tobacco use
 • Alcohol use
 • Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight
 • Exposure to chemicals and other toxins
 • Exposure to ionizing radiation (such as radioactive fallout, xrays, radon gas, etc.)
 • Some viruses and bacteria such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Epstein-Barr, Human papilloma virus (HPV), Human immunodeficiency disorder (HIV)
 • Artificial hormone use such as medication containing estrogen and progestin (most commonly used to alleviate symptoms of menopause)
 • Family history and genetics
 • Poor diet
 • Lack of physical exercise
 • Being overweight

Symptoms

Cancer patients/suffers begin to get thin and this is caused by an internal “eating up” process where certain cells start attacking other cells. While an “eating up” is taking place in the body, a neoplasm characterized by the uncontrolled growth of anaplastic cells invade surrounding tissue, which metastasizes.

There are no specific symptoms with cancer. However, there are signs that may mean immediate attention is needed, including:

 • Lumps
 • Skin abrasians or discoloration
 • Persistent cough
 • Change in bowel movements or urination
 • Blood in the stool or urine
 • Unexplained anemia
 • Hoarseness
 • Swollen glands
 • Changes to warts or moles
 • Persistent nausea, indigestion or trouble swallowing or eating
 • Unexpected weight loss
 • Persistent fever
 • Non-healing sores
 • Persistent headache, muscle ache or bone ache

The Dangers of Chemotherapy and Radiation

Western medicine’s approach to treating cancer is the cut, slash and burn technique that usually involves surgery combined with radiation or chemotherapy treatment.

Chemotherapy is chemical therapy designed to kill the cancer cells. The challenge is that the immune system doesn’t always distinguish the difference between the cancer cells and healthy cells, making chemotherapy a physically difficult treatment. Side effects can be severe, including vomiting, hair loss and other issues.

Radiation is based upon the toxic element “radium oxide“, a serious poison to the human body. Radiation treatment leads to radium neuritis and myalgia. Radiation is used under the illogical premise of killing the cancerous cells in the body, but how are you going to kill the cancerous cells of the body without harming and killing the good/beneficial cells of the body?

In the East, the doctors don’t tell the patient that they have a fatal disease and only have a certain amount of time to live. However, they do tell family members.

Healing Options

In healing cancer, first and foremost, you need a strong and positive mindset and strong will to live.

OXYGEN/OZONE Therapy

These therapies are big in Europe where they are also legal unlike here in the United States. If you have an oxygen machine or ozonator and a body bag/suit, oxygenate or ozonate yourself twice daily (45-60 minutes). The oxygen or ozone will penetrate your skin and saturate your blood killing cancer cells instantly. You can also take oxygen/ozone baths daily. In these baths, you leave the machine going while in the tub. An oxygen/ozone bath should be anywhere from 1-2 hours. You can enhance this bath by adding a few pounds of sea salt (to alkalize the water) and MSM sulfur. Every glass of water should be oxygenated or ozonated in addition to being alkaline. If you don’t have an oxygen or ozone machine, you may add oxygen drops (20-30 drops per glass) or 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide (1/8 of an ounce) to your water. You can also add these to your bath water if you don’t have an oxygen or ozone machine. Oxygenated oil (Oz-Oil) can be used to rub the entire body down with so as to help oxygenate the body.

MAGNETS

Magnets may help to shrink tumors. Magnet strength sizes 4,600 gauss to 14,000 gauss are ideal. The higher the better! Never sleep with magnets above your eyes (preventing brain ionization). The magnets should be applied to the tumor and left on.

CRYSTAL THERAPY

Crystals work on the energy level where cancer begins. Crystals can cause cancer frequencies to change and thus rapidly begin the core healing aspect.

COLON CLEANSING

Colonics and enemas are essential in healing from cancer, especially colon and rectal cancers. Colon-cleansing herbs include Cascara Sagrada, Senna, Buckthorn, Aloe Vera resin, Rhubarb, Bilwa, Bibitaki, Jalap Root, and Glucommanan to name a few. Bentonite clay (liquid form) helps to remove heavy metal toxins from the colon as well as mucoidal plaque. Drinking Aloe Vera juice is very soothing and healing to the colon. Aloe Vera juice is very alkalizing.

Dietary Intervention

A healthy diet is crucial in preventing cancer. This means eating plenty of foods that are high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. This includes whole-grain breads and cereals and 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Also, a healthy diet means limiting foods high in fat (such as butter, whole milk, fried foods, and red meat).

The best foods to eat to eradicate cancer are green colored foods – kale, parsley, spinach, greens, cabbage, broccoli, etc. Greens foods are great alkaline foods saturated with nutrients. Green drinks or veggie cocktails drank daily are exceptional.

VEGETABLES

Just about all vegetables should and can be eaten. Green vegetables and vegetables with color are best! Vegetables loaded with enzymes, minerals, and other valuable nutrients. Do not cook the vegetables.

FRUITS

Melons are the best fruits to eat in healing from cancer followed by various berries, especially those with antioxidant properties (blueberries, Goji, lycii, elderberry, etc.). Citrus fruits, in spite of their natural acids, are very alkaline.

HERBS

You will want to use blood cleansing herbs such as Echinacea (purpurea, pallida or angustifolia), Goldenseal root, Chickweed, Manjistha, Yellow Dock, Cerasee, Burdock Root and Dandelion Root. Blood cleansing herbs will also cleanse the lymphatic fluid too. You will also want to use tissue rebuilding and repairing herbs too, such as Comfrey Root, Burdock Root, Sarsaparilla and Chaparral.

Immune boosting herbs are also ideal in healing from cancer. These herbs include Suma, Ginseng, Astragalus, Echinacea, Goldenseal, Pau D’Arco (LaPacho), Cat’s Claw, Yew Tips and Codonopsis to name a few. These herbs stimulate the body’s natural anti-cancer defenses. They increase the activity of natural killer cells, which recognize and destroy cancer cells at first sight and improve the efficacy of interferon.

SEAWEEDS

Seaweeds are very oxygenating, alkalizing and nutritious. The best seaweeds to consume are Super Blue Green algae, Chlorella, Spirulina, Dulse, Irish Moss and Kelp. Seaweeds will eradicate the damaging effects of radiation from radiation treatment.

MUSHROOMS

You will want to use the healing and therapeutic mushrooms Reishi, Maitake and Shitake. Maitake is the most potent of the healing mushrooms. These mushrooms should be taken in extract form. These mushrooms greatly help to dissolve tumor growth.

WATER

Hydrotherapy can be used in the healing regimen for cancer. The best water to drink for healing purposes is alkaline water followed by distilled water.

VITAMIN B-17 (Laetrile)

Leatrile/Vitamin B-17 is banned in the U.S. in drug form, but it is plentiful in Wheat Grass. Drink plenty of wheat grass to get as much Vitamin B-17 as you can.

The thyroid gland is a member of the glandular or endocrine system. The English medical term derives from the Greek words: thyreos meaning shield, and eidos meaning form. It’s located at the front of the neck. It is slightly heavier in women than in men and enlarges in pregnancy.

The thyroid gland secretes the hormone thyroxin directly into the bloodstream. Thyroxin is also known as thyroid hormone. Thyroxin is an iodine-containing compound. In fact, the thyroid gland itself is chiefly comprised of the mineral iodine and therefore is vital and necessary for optimal thyroid health and functioning.

The function of the thyroid gland includes: regulation of normal body growth in infancy and childhood, regulation of metabolism, regulation of body temperature, maintenance of skeletal maturation; and regulation of protein, fat and carbohydrates. These functions supra are dependent upon thyroxin or thyroid hormone.

Thyroid Problems

The thyroid gland in most Americans is sluggish if not outright inactive. Inactive or underactive thyroid gland plays a major role in obesity, because the thyroid gland helps regulate metabolism, which is dependent upon the burning of fat converted from sugar.

Pathologies of the thyroid gland include:

 • Hypothyroidism
 • Goiter
 • thyroid cancer
 • thyroiditis

Lack of iodine plays a major role in the development of these diseases or pathologies.

Healing Thyroid Naturally

The thyroid gland responds to blue and violet colors.

Blue colored stones include: blue lace agate, angelite, chrysocola, celestite, azurite, and lapis lazuli. These stones can be placed directly on the thyroid gland for a few minutes to help correct any imbalance at this chakra.

It’s interesting that the thyroid gland responds to violet, since the chief mineral for the thyroid gland is iodine, which term is derived from the Greek word ioeides meaning violet. Iodine is a bluish-black solid that becomes a violet vapor when heated. Hence, the thyroid gland responds to blue and violet.

Goiter is simply the result of a severe iodine deficiency and can be reversed with adequate amounts of iodine in the daily diet.

Great and natural sources of iodine include:

Seaweed is the greatest and best food for humans as it supplies us with every nutrient we need for optimal health-including iodine. Iodine is essential for anyone attempting to lose weight (fat), naturally.

Iodized salt is not an acceptable source of iodine. While iodized salt may have curbed the incidence of cretinism in the United States, it greatly played a role in the development of high blood pressure in this country.

Instead of using iodized salt under the banner of sodium chloride (white table salt), it’s much better (and safer) to use sea salt (available at health food stores).

Magnets can greatly help in thyroid problems by stimulating the thyroid gland. Simply put a magnet on the thyroid gland for a few hours and the thyroid will revive. This technique alone will reverse thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid gland).

If you are pregnant, it is vitally essential that you obtain adequate amounts of iodine.
