When you have a lot of rosemary on hand, you cannot simply make roasted chicken and potatoes for every meal. You can add rosemary to stocks, soups, or infuse it into oil, but eventually, you will tire of the herb’s flavor. Too much of a good thing is real…or is it? When you no longer want to enjoy rosemary in culinary applications, use it to make nourishing products for your skin and hair.

Why Should You Use A Facial Toner?

Facial toner works to remove traces of grime, dirt, and impurities that remain in your pores after you wash your face. Adding a toner to your daily skin care routine can have a positive impact on the overall appearance and tightness of your pores. Turning back the hands of time? Although it isn’t the anti-aging secret of the century, facial toner does help to restore the skin’s pH balance, creating a smoother appearance and tone.

Everyone can benefit from using facial toner, but people with oily or acne-prone skin benefit a great deal. The reason for this is because toner goes the extra mile to clean the gunk out of those pores. If you have acne-prone skin, though, consider a toner that contains salicylic acid. People with oily skin may benefit from toners that help to balance oil production. Continue reading to learn more about the ingredients in this homemade toner and how they benefit your skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a common ingredient in many DIY face washes, acne spot cleansers, and toners. At this time, there isn’t sufficient research or scientific evidence to support the use of apple cider vinegar for facial skin care. That said, there are many anecdotal reports that suggest it works wonders for the skin. Apple cider vinegar works to remove excess oil, dirt, and other debris from pores. When incorporated into a toner or cleanser, apple cider vinegar can aid your skin-cleansing efforts. Because it is an astringent, apple cider vinegar lends itself to toners, creating more even skin tone and tighter pores.

Rosemary

Rosemary, specifically rosemary oil, acts as a refreshing astringent that helps to balance skin tone. Topical application of this oil can help decongest oily skin types and acne-prone skin, while simultaneously maintaining the skin’s balance. The antimicrobial properties of rosemary help to invigorate the skin and increase circulation to the skin’s surface, contributing to a more youthful glow. Rosemary works to hydrate the skin and control oil production, while also providing antibacterial properties that help to keep breakouts at bay. Additionally, the use of rosemary oil on the skin has been associated with less flaking and dryness. It is a common ingredient in skin care products because it encourages healthier skin tissues.

Homemade Facial Toner With Rosemary

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

  • Combine the water and rosemary in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow it to simmer until the liquid has reduced by half.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the liquid to cool before straining it through a fine mesh strainer and into a glass jar.
  • Pour in the apple cider vinegar and mix well to combine.
  • When ready to use, shake well to combine, dip a cotton ball or pad in the mixture, and gently pat your face with it to apply.
  • Leave for a minute or so and then follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Face washing is an easy task, but there are different levels. Some people have multi-step face washing rituals, while others simply splash water on their face and call it a day. Caring for your skin involves understanding what type of cleanser is best for your skin. It also means that you have to know how often to watch your face.

To be clear, face washing is an integral component to your skin care regimen. Failure to cleanse regularly can lead to several issues, including blemishes, excess oily production, and breakouts. If you don’t wash your face, pores will clog and your risk of developing acne increases exponentially. Additionally, not washing your face can prevent the skin from absorbing other products that you apply to your face.

According to a 2017 survey of 1,000 adult men and women, more than half of the people said that they did not wash their face before bedtime. The conductors of the survey also noted that nearly 80% of Americans make at least one skin washing mistake. You see, face washing not only benefits how your skin looks, but also how it feels. Read on to learn about how often you should wash your face, and how to cleanse it correctly.

Why Is It Important To Wash Your Face?

If you want your skin to appear healthy and young, you need to wash your face. Facial skin is always exposed to the environment, so it easily collects dirt, oil, and other debris. If you don’t remove those substances, facial skin becomes irritated and you can develop other skin problems. Without washing your face, the skin appears dirtier, drier, greasier, and older-looking, according to dermatologists.

How Often Should You Wash Your Face?

This is the big question of this entire article! Generally speaking, most dermatologists agree that you should wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. Washing your face in the morning removes any impurities that may settle on your skin overnight. It also helps whatever moisturizers you apply to go on with ease. Similarly, washing your face at night helps remove all of the grime and skin care products you applied earlier in the day. Then your skin is refreshed before your head hits the pillow.

Although those are the recommendations for face washing, you don’t have to wash your face that often if you have sensitive skin or certain skin conditions. In fact, dermatologists can often prescribe a regimen that best suits your skin’s needs. If you have dry or sensitive skin, rinse your face with warm water in the morning and cleanse it once at night to remove dirt. If you have an active flare-up of rosacea or eczema, you may only need one face wash at night to reduce irritation. Again, everyone’s needs are different, but the general recommendation is two face washes per day.

The Right Way To Wash Your Face

First of all, consider your skin type and wash accordingly. After that, identify what your daily activities are, your makeup habits, and the types of products you use. If you wear makeup, you may require a makeup remover or balm prior to washing your skin. Once you have all of that information locked down, follow the steps below:

  • Rinse your face with lukewarm water.
  • Apply a gentle facial cleanser to your fingertips and massage it into your face in a circular motion for 30 seconds. Relax your face and don’t be too vigorous. Additionally, pay extra attention to your T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and jawline.
  • Rinse your face with lukewarm water and then pat dry with a clean towel.

Most cleansers are formulated to mimic the pH of the sky, so as not to dry out the skin or compromise the skin barrier. A lot of people just use regular body wash or hand soap to wash their face. Those soaps can easily strip the skin of moisture and cause irritation. For that reason, use a cleanser that is specifically designed for facial skin, but choose one that fits your skin type. If you have dry or sensitive skin, consider a gentle or creamy cleanser. If you have oily skin, you may benefit from a gel or foam cleanser. People with dull skin may require an alpha hydroxy acid or glycolic-based cleanser to remove dead skin cells and give your skin a healthier glow.

You’ve definitely seen facial toners in the skin care aisle at your local drugstore. They tend to be slim bottles filled with a clear or lightly tint liquid. Some people use them, but they don’t know why; rather, toner use is simply habitual or based on a recommendation. Face toner may actually be your new secret weapon that helps to clear up your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture.

What Does Face Toner Do?

The reality is that your pores don’t magically remain clean throughout your life. Sweat, environmental pollution, and other impurities easily get lodged in your pores, which is why you have to wash your face. Toner helps to remove traces of dirt or impurities and can have a positive impact on the appearance and tightness of your pores. Toner also works to restore your skin’s pH level, smoothing it out by refining rough patches.

When it comes to applying face toner, it’s best to soak a cotton ball with it and gently wipe it across your skin post cleansing. Beauty experts suggest that you use it in the morning and before bed at night. It should be the second step in your skin care routine, as it prepares your skin to absorb moisturizer (the third step) and skin treatments (the fourth step).

Witch Hazel

According to clinical data, an estimated 45% of Americans have sensitive skin, defined by abnormal sensory symptoms. Some research shows that applying witch hazel to sensitive skin may be beneficial for treating inflamed, red, broken, or irritated skin. In fact, one study found that witch hazel suppressed erythema, reddening of the skin caused by injury or irritation, by up to 27%. Another small study found that topical application of witch hazel was able to provide relief for sensitive or irritated facial skin. Additionally, witch hazel offers anti-inflammatory properties that may prevent acne-causing bacteria from infecting the skin. It acts as an astringent, causing tissues to contract and shrink pores, while soothing the skin in the process.

Vitamin E Oil

The body requires vitamin E for optimal immune function and cell regeneration. It exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help improve the appearance of your skin. For that reason, vitamin E oil is a common ingredient in skin care products, especially anti-aging products. Applying vitamin E oil to the skin can help reduce early signs of aging and the appearance of acne. It’s a great skin-conditioning agent that works best if you apply it before bed and let the skin absorb it overnight.

Simple DIY Facial Toner

Ingredients:

  • 3 ounces witch hazel
  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 3 drops each: geranium, cypress, and lavender essential oils
  • 4-ounce bottle

Instructions:

  • Pour the witch hazel into the bottle, followed by the vitamin E oil.
  • Add three drops of each of the essential oils, screw on the top, and shake well to combine.
  • Use after you wash your face with a gentle face wash or cleanser. Shake before you apply some to a cotton ball and wipe it across your skin gently.
  • Finish by moisturizing your skin with a face serum, moisturizer, or skin treatment.

Did you know that some of the products you use to keep your body clean can do more harm than good? Most soaps, perfumes, hair care products, and more contain fragrances or natural flavors, which can be quite problematic. Manufacturers don’t have to disclose the ingredients in those fragrances because they are patented, so as not to give away their secret blends. Fragrances aside, most soaps contain parabens, sulfates, and other toxins that can both harm the skin and disrupt the endocrine system.

That means that it is time to clean up (pun intended) your hygiene products. Revamp your grooming routine with a few DIY recipes, many of which you can find on our website. We have recipes for cleaning products, hygiene products, and more, all of which are natural and safe for the body. You don’t have to worry about artificial dyes, fragrances, triclosan, parabens, or other harmful ingredients when you make your own products. Read on to learn about some of the ingredients that make the body soap in this article special.

Castile Soap

Many people use Castile soap in a plethora of DIY products. You can incorporate it into face washes, shaving creams, homemade cleaning products, and shampoos. It is a vegetable-based soap that typically comes in liquid form. The biodegradable nature of this soap makes it non-toxic and safe to use for people with sensitive skin. It is also safe for children and pets. Because of its concentrated nature, a little Castile soap goes a long way. The most popular variety is unscented, which is the best choice because you can incorporate your own essential oils to create a personalized scent.

Honey

Dating back more than 4,000 years, honey has been used in various beauty and medicinal applications. When combined with other herbal preparations, honey’s medicinal properties are only enhanced. The reason that honey is a common ingredient in various beauty products is because it deeply moisturizes the skin. Honey contains enzymes that easily seep into the skin, so it helps to condition and moisturize from within. It is also a gentle exfoliator, helping to gently slough away dead skin cells. This helps contribute to a brighter complexion.

Coconut Oil

When it comes to using coconut oil in DIY beauty recipes, it can be beneficial to use fractionated coconut oil. The reason for this is because fractionated coconut oil does not solidify at room temperature. That means you don’t have to worry about your body soap hardening in the shower. Because of the medium-chain fatty acids, coconut oil works to hydrate the skin and help it retain moisture. It also offers slight protection, creating a protective barrier on the skin that shields it from environmental toxins. If you experience any temporary redness or inflammation, coconut oil may help to soothe inflammation or itchiness.

DIY Coconut Honey Body Soap

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup liquid Castile soap
  • 1/3 cup raw organic honey
  • 2 tablespoon glycerin
  • 1/3 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 20-30 drops essential oil of your choice (optional)

Instructions:

  • Pour all of the ingredients into a medium-sized mixing bowl and stir gently to combine.
  • You don’t want to over-mix because you don’t want the soap to start bubbling.
  • Transfer the mixture to a foaming soap dispenser and fill the remaining room with water. Use in your shower when you have to soap up your body.

Who wants to save money and apply natural ingredients to the face in order to remove eye makeup? Everyone, we assume, because looking your best has a lot to do with what you put on your skin. The skin around the eyes is very sensitive, which is why you want to avoid harsh ingredients. It may not seem like natural ingredients can wipe away eye makeup, but they can and they will.

In the beginning, you will have to spend more than the average price of eye makeup remover. Unfortunately, the ingredients you need are not free, but they aren’t insanely expensive either. Plus, once you have them, you can make this recipe over and over again, instead of buying new eye makeup remover bottles. Let’s take a look at the three ingredients you will need for this recipe.

Distilled Water

When it comes to applying water to the skin, especially to the face, you want to use the cleanest water possible. Distilled water is free of toxins that may be present in regular tap water, or even certain bottled waters. If you have sensitive skin, distilled water is a great option to include in any face wash or makeup remover. It works to dissolve the impurities on the skin and may help unclog pores, leaving your skin clean and refreshed.

Baby Unscented Pure Castile Soap

The reason that you should opt for unscented soap is because most of the oils and other ingredients are safe for use around the eyes, in addition to other sensitive areas. If you know of a natural tear-free baby soap, you can opt to use that in place of this ingredient. When you combine Castile soap with a carrier oil, like the almond oil in this recipe, it has an easier time removing makeup. Always apply the Castile solution to a washcloth or cotton pad and then wipe the makeup away. The great thing about using Castile soap with a carrier oil to remove makeup is that it helps to cleanse your skin, not strip it of its natural oils.

Almond Oil

The only reason to avoid almond oil is if you have a nut allergy; otherwise, this carrier oil is effective at removing makeup. It is naturally rich in vitamin E and other healthy fats, which is where most of its benefits come from. Beauty experts give almond oil a comedogenic rating of 2, meaning that it will unlikely clog your pores. For the most part, you can use this oil to help safely remove water-resistant makeup. Lastly, almond oil is naturally rich in antioxidants that help protect your skin from oxidative stress, premature aging, and sun damage.

Homemade Eye Makeup Remover

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 teaspoon baby unscented pure Castile soap
  • 1 teaspoon almond oil

Instructions:

  • Pour all of the ingredients into a glass bottle and stir to combine. Store in a cool dry place.
  • When ready to use, moisten a cotton round or ball with a small amount of the eye makeup remover.
  • Gently rub over your eyes to remove makeup.

Some people have naturally dry skin, so they frantically look for cleansers and moisturizers that help lock in moisture. It can be difficult to find cleansers that don’t dry your face out, which is why it is better to make your own with simple, natural ingredients. Including ingredients like vitamin E oil, raw honey, essential oils, and raw honey in your face wash can do wonders for your skin. Let’s highlight some of the key ingredients in this face wash.

Honey

Honey continues to show up in skin care products because of its beauty benefits. A 2016 research paper found that raw honey exhibited antimicrobial and wound-healing properties. Raw honey may also be great for people with acne, which affects about 50 million people a year in the United States. The antimicrobial nature of honey may make it an effective acne treatment. A separate study found that medical grade kanuka honey with a 10% glycerine combination was more effective than an antibacterial soap.

Chamomile

The Ancient Egyptians and Greeks used to apply crushed chamomile flowers to the skin to treat dryness and redness. Thousands of years later, people still incorporate chamomile into skin care products, and researchers continue to discover how chamomile can benefit the skin. Chamomile contains apigenin, a powerful antioxidant that works to lower inflammation by combating inflammation-causing chemicals. The anti-inflammatory nature of chamomile can be attributed to apigenin, chamazulene, and bisoprolol. These compounds have soothing and healing benefits that are excellent for sensitive skin.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E oil is a powerful serum that may help reduce the signs of aging. Some people use this oil as a skin-conditioning agent overnight in order for the skin to completely absorb it. Vitamin E oil can be an excellent spot treatment for acne scarring. The high antioxidant content of vitamin E works to promote blood circulation, which is why some people notice a difference in skin firmness and structure after topical application. A 2013 review found that vitamin E oil and other antioxidants can be effective treatments for delaying wrinkles.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

One study found that ylang ylang essential oil may boost self-esteem and reduce anxiety after topical application or inhalation. This is supported by other studies and anecdotal reports that had similar findings. Ylang ylang essential oil exhibits antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, so it may be effective at treating fungal infections and inflammation.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense exhibits antiseptic properties, which may be powerful enough to fight tooth decay and bad breath. For skin care, the astringent properties help protect skin cells to encourage a more youthful appearance. Frankincense essential oil may also work to reduce blemishes, shrink large pores, or help tighten up the skin. Just make sure to dilute it in a carrier oil prior to applying on the skin.

DIY Honey Tea Face Wash

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup chamomile tea, cooled
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 3 tablespoons Castile soap
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 4 drops vitamin E oil
  • 8 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 8 drops ylang ylang essential oil

Instructions:

  • Add the cooled chamomile tea and honey to a small mixing bowl and whisk to thoroughly combine.
  • Pour in the Castile soap, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, and essential oils and continue to whisk until everything is mixed well. Don’t whisk too vigorously; rather, be gentle to avoid frothing the soap.
  • Pour the mixture into a foaming soap pump bottle through a funnel. Screw on the cap and use as needed.
  • Every time you want to use it, you will need to shake the bottle to re-combine the ingredients.

People with rosacea have to take extra special care of their skin to avoid inflammation and irritation. Because of this, extra care is necessary when choosing cleansers, creams, moisturizers, and makeup. The right products can keep your skin feeling and looking great. To help people with rosacea, we outline several essential skin care tips in this article.

Rosacea is a common skin condition with a characteristic symptom of blushing or flushing in the face. Occasionally, you can see visible blood vessels and cause the formation of small pus-filled bumps. It’s possible for these symptoms to occur for weeks to months at a time, but then they may go away for a while. Although rosacea may resemble acne at times, it is a completely different skin condition. Common symptoms of rosacea include:

  • Facial blushing or flushing
  • Swollen bumps
  • Visible veins
  • Burning sensation (of the affected area)
  • Enlarged nose

At this time, there is no consensus about what causes rosacea, but treatments are improving. If you want to decrease redness and care for the skin, learn about rosacea skin care tips below.

Use Gentle Cleansers

The type of cleanser you use can affect your rosacea. It’s best to avoid harsh cleansers and astringents because they can worsen symptoms. Many people want to use aggressive cleansers or acne treatments because symptoms look similar to acne. You should not do this! In fact, do your best to avoid products that contain salicylic acid and retinoids. Choose a fragrance-free cleanser that is hypoallergenic and use gentle application.

Know Your Triggers

Sun exposure, extreme heat or cold, stress, spicy food, and skin care products can trigger a rosacea flare-up. If you have this condition, it’s important to identify your triggers. Many dermatologists suggest keeping a journal to determine which things cause symptoms. It’s difficult to avoid all of your triggers, but you can do your best to avoid most. Should you experience a flare-up, you can help minimize symptoms by gently cleaning your face with cool water and rosacea-friendly skin care products.

Use Sunscreen Daily

Sunlight is a primary trigger for rosacea, so it’s beneficial to protect the skin as much as possible. Using sunscreen every day can help, but certain ingredients in sunscreen may irritate the skin. Health experts suggest that rosacea patients avoid sunscreens with chemical blockers because they cause irritation. It’s better to use a sunscreen that has a physical blocker, including zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Additionally, look for sunscreens that contain niacinamide, which works to reduce redness.

Be Careful With Facials

Regular facials, microdermabrasion treatments, and chemical peels can be excellent for certain complexions, but not for people with rosacea. Often times, these types of skin treatments can irritate the skin, aggravating rosacea. If you want to rejuvenate the skin on your face and make it appear younger, consult your dermatologist to figure out what the best option is.

Use A Gentle Touch

No matter what you apply to your skin, be it a face wash, makeup, or moisturizer, a gentle touch is necessary for application. Use your fingertips to apply these products on your face in gentle, small circles. Rubbing, scrubbing, washcloths, and loofas all tend to lead to redness and irritation. After washing your skin, it’s best to use a soft cotton towel to pat your face dry.

Choose Makeup Wisely

You may think that makeup hides the symptoms of rosacea, but it can often cause dryness and irritation. It’s possible to use makeup, but choose varieties that are mineral-based, preservative-free, and fragrance-free. Those types of makeup tend to be much less irritating to people with rosacea. In fact, many patients report that these makeups don’t aggravate the condition. A foundation that has silicone may effectively protect the skin.

Exfoliation is an essential part of any great skin care routine. Some people exfoliate a few times a week, while others exfoliate daily. How much you exfoliate will depend on your skin type, as people with more sensitive, oily, or dry skin may require more or less exfoliation. The ultimate goal is to enhance the appearance and cleanliness of your skin, which is why natural ingredients are the best.

Skin naturally renews itself about every four weeks. Newer healthy skin cells rise to the surface, but this process slows as you get older. Older skin can have a duller appearance, but so can younger skin if no exfoliation happens. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells, allowing new skin cells to come to the surface. It also works to remove dirt and debris from that live within pores. This helps to to give your skin a more vibrant glow. The following two ingredients are the only ingredients you need to aid with exfoliation.

Baking Soda

The best facial scrub is one that helps to deep clean pores without being too abrasive. Baking soda has multiple purposes, but lately it is receiving a lot of attention for its beauty benefits. It works to exfoliate the skin, offering alkaline properties to help neutralize acids. The skin is covered with an “acid mantle”, a term coined by German physicians in 1928. It’s a thin film on the skin’s surface that consists of lipids from oil glands and amino acids from sweat. It’s a delicate skin barrier that helps to keep moisture in and bacteria out. Regular dry or flaky skin can indicated a damaged acid mantle, or an imbalance in the skin’s pH.

Baking soda works to remove excess oils, dead skin cells, and bacteria from pores. It works to minimize the appearance of blackheads by slightly shrinking the pores. Baking soda also offers astringent-like properties that help to prevent pores from clogging with dirt, which contributes to acne. When using baking soda as a scrub, it’s best to massage it into the skin using gentle, circular motions with your fingertips.

Coconut Oil

Nearly every DIY beauty product involves coconut oil. It works to nourish the hair and skin, but some people have their reservations about regular use. Coconut oil is a natural source of antibacterial properties, but people with sensitive or acne-prone skin may experience breakouts after application. The majority of people, however, believe in coconut oil’s ability to make the skin supple, hydrated, and radiant.

Coconut oil works to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin, removing dead skin cells and enhancing the skin’s overall appearance. In addition to exfoliating the skin, coconut oil helps the skin retain moisture. The medium-chain fatty acids keep the skin looking silky smooth and hydrated. Additionally, one study found that virgin coconut oil was able to suppress inflammatory markers and enhance skin barrier function. More research is necessary as this was an in vitro study.

All Natural Face Wash

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons virgin coconut oil
  • 5 drops frankincense essential oil (optional)
  • 5 drops tea tree oil (optional)

Instructions:

  • Add all of the ingredients to a medium-sized mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and store until ready to use.

How To Use:

  • Scoop one teaspoon out of the container and use your fingertips to gently massage the mixture into your skin in circular motions.
  • Let the mixture remain on your face for a minute before rinsing with lukewarm water. Pat dry and continue your beauty routine as normal.

It’s no secret that everyone makes mistakes. The beauty of humans is that we are not perfect, but we have the ability to acknowledge imperfections and change for the better. One of the biggest changes we can make is to switch from unhealthy skin care products to natural homemade products. This seems like a hard transition, but it’s a lot simpler than you think. We’ll hold your hand to help you bridge the gap, and you can start with a simple face wash.

Acne is one of the most common skin problems in the world. Everyone is prone to breakouts, but they may not always result from poor dietary choices. Often times, the harsh chemicals in commercial skin care products contribute to frequent breakouts. Items that supposedly cleanse the skin and remove bacterial build-up end up clogging your pores. When you take the time to simplify and use natural ingredients, though, you’ll notice a positive change in your skin.

Raw Honey For Your Skin

Why should you lather your skin with something that sweetens your tea? As it turns out, people have used honey on their skin for centuries. It has powerful antibacterial properties that historically aided with wound healing and skin cleansing. Raw honey works to moisturize the skin from within. It can do this because honey’s enzymes easily penetrate the skin, softening and hydrating it from the inside. It also works to cleanse pores of blackheads. The antiseptic and antibacterial properties work to remove dirt, while simultaneously hydrating and tightening pores. This contributes to a clearer complexion.

Tea Tree Oil For Your Skin

Where do we begin? Tea tree oil is nature’s secret weapon. Research has shown that tea tree oil exhibits powerful antibacterial, anti-parasitic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. One of its most popular uses is to help get rid of acne. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help to unclog pores, reduce redness, and reduce the frequency of breakouts. Tea tree oil may also enhance the natural glow of your skin. One study found that using tea tree oil in combination with a carrier oil on the face helped reduce oiliness. It also helps to hydrate the skin, and it even out-performed benzoyl peroxide for reducing dryness and flakiness.

Jojoba Oil For Your Skin

Jojoba oil is one of the best carrier oils to use on your skin. It’s a lighter oil, so it doesn’t feel heavy or thick after topical application. It works to hydrate the skin and provides optimal moisture by mimicking the skin’s natural oils. Jojoba oil actually tricks the skin into thinking that it has produced enough oil, eliminating the risk of excess oil production. The antibacterial properties also aid with acne reduction and controlled oil production. The high iodine content in jojoba oil helps to fight bacterial growth, which can cause breakouts. Finally, jojoba oil is the ultimate hydrator for your skin. By increasing natural moisture, jojoba oil contributes to a healthier, brighter glow.

DIY Toning & Clarifying Face Wash

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
  • 5 teaspoons jojoba oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon tea tree oil
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops rosemary essential oil

Instructions:

  • Add all of the ingredients to a dispenser bottle in the order that they are listed. Do not pour them in out of order or you will experience a soap disaster.
  • Gently stir the mixture to combine the ingredients. The mixture will look cloudy, but that is completely normal.
  • Place your dispenser bottle on your bathroom sink and use as you please.

How To Use:

  • Use one or two pumps of the soap and apply to your face. Rinse with lukewarm water after application.
  • It’s best to use once or twice daily. Make sure to give it a shake before each use.
  • If you don’t finish it within a month, discard the soap and make a new batch.

It seems that the world of DIY natural beauty products is expanding by the day. When you consider all of the skin-healing benefits that natural ingredients have to offer, it makes sense to incorporate them into your beauty routine, especially if your skin is sensitive to the chemicals in commercial beauty products.

When it comes to washing your face, the idea is to cleanse your pores of impurities and built-up bacteria, not to put chemicals on the skin. Most face washes or cleansers contain ingredients that can dry out the pores, making your face more prone to dryness, especially in the colder months. Instead of drying out your skin, hydrate it with the DIY face wash in this article.

Raw Unfiltered Honey

The first step is to purchase the right honey to benefit the skin, and that is raw unfiltered honey. Working to balance the bacteria on the skin, raw honey is an excellent skin care ingredient for those who struggle with acne. According to several studies, raw honey has exfoliating properties that work to remove dead skin cells and encourage the production of healthier, brighter skin. Honey has also been used as a spot treatment to reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

The antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties of ylang ylang essential oil make it an effective ingredient to clear up acne and improve the overall appearance of the skin. It is common to blend this oil into natural body washes to nourish the skin. Some people enjoy ylang ylang because of its ability to increase thickness and luster of hair. It works best when combined with coconut oil for hair health.

Lavender

People who have been experiencing dry skin will greatly benefit from using lavender in this face wash. Lavender works to balance the skin’s natural moisture barrier, ensuring that is not too oily or dry. Dry skin can produce excess sebum to compensate for the lack of moisture, but this results in clogged pores or acne. Lavender helps to kill bacteria, penetrate the pores, and moisturize the skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 2 tablespoons dried lavender
  • 1/3 cup castile soap
  • 1 tablespoon unrefined coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered honey
  • 15 drops ylang ylang essential oil

Instructions:

  • Combine the water and lavender in a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Continue a simmer for about 5-10 minutes or until it is reduced to half. Set aside and allow it to cool
  • Add the castile soap, coconut oil, and honey to a small glass container.
  • Strain the lavender flowers from the water and then add it to the glass container with the other ingredients. Add the essential oil and shake well.
  • Store in a cool dry place and shake before use.
