]]>

Isn’t it wild that fall is nearly here? Before you know it, we’ll have to gear up for winter. For now, though, you get to prepare for the changing of leaves, sweater weather, and pumpkin spice lattes. Well, maybe don’t enjoy too many of those lattes because they are quite fattening and heavily sweetened.

Fall and winter tend to be associated with unhealthy lifestyle habits, but you don’t have to fall into that trap. The stress of the holidays, long days out shopping and eating, and party after party all contribute to weight gain. Additionally, the hustle and bustle of fall and winter events can interfere with wellness rituals that you develop over summer. Fortunately, there are habits that keep you healthy during the fall. You don’t have to do anything crazy; rather, a few changes can make all the difference during this cozy time of year.

Do Some Yoga

There’s nothing like escaping the world after a long, stressful day. Rather than plopping down on the couch to veg out in front of the TV all night, take 30 minutes to an hour to practice a yoga routine. At the day’s end, yoga can help put your mind at ease, helping you focus on the present moment. Take it one step further and commit to engaging in a yoga practice at least twice a week during the fall. You can do a routine in your house or head to a yoga studio if you prefer hot yoga or other varieties. Not only does it keep the body moving and strengthen your core, but it also helps you be more mindful and may even relieve stress or promote better sleep.

Spend More Time Outside

It sounds strange to suggest an outdoor setting when the weather gets colder, but being outside does wonders for your physical and mental health. According to research, spending time outdoors helps reduce stress and improve mood. If you have a dog, let that beautiful, sweet creature be your motivation. Walking for 30 minutes a day has been shown to help regulate bowel movements, reduce stress, contribute to weight loss, and boost your mood. Plus, being outside after being in an indoor 9-5 environment helps you recharge the batteries. Make the outdoors a priority and your mental health will thank you.

Cook One-Pot Meals

A one-pot meal is exactly what it sounds like: you cook everything in one pot. Not only do one-pot meals epitomize comfort food, but they also make kitchen cleanup a lot easier. One-pot meals include soups, stews, pastas, and more. A one-pot meal can also be made in a slow cooker or Instant Pot. Using a slow cooker can take the stress out of making dinner when you get home. Simply throw all of the ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning, program the settings, and then go about your day. Dinner is ready when you get home!

Consider A Vitamin D Supplement

There is a vitamin D problem in the United States, the problem being that too many people are deficient in this nutrient. Given that the days are shorter and you most likely spend more time inside during the fall and winter, taking a vitamin D supplement can counteract the lack of sun exposure. Vitamin D helps control blood sugar, boost immune function, and aid with calcium absorption. Additionally, vitamin D has also exhibited an ability to help reduce anxiety and depression. Before you go out and purchase a vitamin D supplement, though, talk with your doctor about which supplement is best and what the right dosage is for you.

Care For Your Skin

Your summer skin care routine may need to change with the onset of the fall season. The air gets drier and indoor heating switches on. It’s the reverse of summer, which exhibits hot and humid outdoor temperatures and dry, air-conditioned indoor environments. Consider switching to a rich moisturizer to keep your skin soft and smooth. Emollients and humectants are great ingredients that help lock moisture into your skin. Lastly, remember to wear sunscreen if you’ll be out during the day. Even though the days aren’t as sunny, the sun’s UV rays can still affect your skin, increasing the risk of skin cancer.

Above all else, don’t forget to practice gratitude during this time of year. Gratitude can help you maintain your relationships and establish a healthier lifestyle. Consider writing down one thing that you’re grateful for every day to help shift your mind from negative to positive.

When we present you with a creative recipe, we try to keep it as simple as possible. The ingredient list may be long or short, but the preparation is meant to be easy. That is especially true for raw vegan recipes. A recipe should not scare you away! It should invite you to make it and inspire you to be more creative in the kitchen. That’s exactly what we though when we came up with this recipe.

All you really have to do for this recipe is soak the sunflower seeds and sun-dried tomatoes for a few hours. Blend them with the other ingredients to create the taco “meat,” and then roll up the nori wraps. Speaking of nori, make sure that you get the sheets that have not been roasted. You can usually find them at a number of grocery stores, especially health food stores. And another quick note about using the nori sheets: make sure to wet your finger and dab one end with it before you roll them up. That will help seal the roll.

These rolls differ from other raw vegan sushi rolls we’ve posted in the past. These have a raw vegan taco “meat” in the center. Roll that smoky, delicious, nutty concoction up with lettuce, bell peppers, avocado, and cilantro and you have a raw nori taquito. If you really want to go the extra mile, feel free to make your own pico de gallo or guacamole to put inside the rolls. That really just depends on the time you are willing to dedicate to this recipe. Whether you make those dips or not, these nori taquitos will have your tasted buds jumping for joy.

It’s safe to say that almost every single person adores pasta. There are countless pasta recipes in existence, but most people tend to stick to simple marinara or Alfredo sauce recipes. In fact, most people purchase jarred versions of these classic sauces. You are better than jarred sauce, people! We understand the convenience of jarred sauce, but convenience doesn’t equal health. Jarred sauce contains an excessive amount of sodium, processed ingredients, and other things that have no place in your pasta sauce.

This recipe calls for unsalted tomato sauce from a jar, but it is simply pureed tomatoes. There are no added flavorings or anything else! Additionally, this recipe takes your taste buds down to the south to enjoy some classic cajun flavors. Cajun seasoning is yet another ingredient that contains copious amounts of sodium. One serving of cajun seasoning (about 1/4 teaspoon) contains 130 to 170 milligrams of sodium, depending on the variety. Why put your body at risk when you can easily make your own with spices you probably have in your spice rack?

That was a lot of information, and we apologize, but it was necessary. The great thing about this pasta is that you only need one pot. You don’t need a separate pot for cooking the pasta, one for the sauce, and a colander to strain the pasta. Just. One. Pot. That is the beauty of a one pot pasta recipe! You have minimal cleanup and the dried pasta noodles get to cook in the sauce, so they absorb all of the flavors as they cook. We hope you like this vegan cajun pasta!

Hot summer days have arrived, so you need a refreshing dish to cool you off. This crisp watermelon mint salad comes together comes together in under 10 minutes with just six simple ingredients. It’s a great side dish for a family dinner or a great option for your next gathering or summer potluck.

Watermelon is the quintessential summer fruit. It is always on the summer menu and aids your hydration efforts, given that it is more than 90% water. Watermelon is light, healthy, and incredibly easy to eat. Not to mention, watermelon is a very versatile ingredient, pairing well with different flavors. You can grill slices and drizzle a balsamic glaze over them. Add watermelon to juices, detox waters, salads, and more!

In the case of this recipe, you pair watermelon with fresh mint, sea salt, fresh lime juice, raw agave nectar, and olive oil. You can cut the watermelon into cubes, bite-size pieces, triangles, or whichever shape you like. The primary goal with this salad, besides creating delicious flavors, is to make it quickly. Once you do that, you can be fancy and chiffonade the mint. Chiffonade is a fancy term for thinly slicing herbs after rolling up the leaves. You can also tear the mint leaves if you do not want to slice them thinly. Combine the mint and watermelon in a bowl and then add the dressing ingredients. Toss to coat and enjoy!

These aren’t your average vegan nachos that have mediocre flavors with barely melted vegan processed cheese. These are simply the best vegan nachos you’ll ever eat, and we stand by that statement. The entire plate is an explosion of flavors, exhibiting notes of salty, cheesy, spicy, tangy, and freshness. It is going to change your life for the better! We’re saying it now that these vegan nachos are better than any nachos you’ll find in a restaurant.

There are quite a few components to this recipe, but it doesn’t take all day to make. Should you choose to make some salsa, pickled onions, or guacamole, then that will extend the prep time for this recipe. Sautéing the onions, bell pepper, and canned black beans takes five to seven minutes. Blending the cashew cheese only takes five minutes, which includes the time it takes to portion out the ingredients. The reason why the cashew cheese is so incredible is because of the secret ingredient: pickled jalapeños. You also add a couple tablespoons of the pickling liquid, which gives the cashew cheese an extra layer of spice and acidity.

There are many ways to assemble these vegan nachos, but we have a suggestion for you. Put a layer of chips on a plate or platter and then ladle some of the black bean mixture on the chips. Drizzle some of the vegan cheese over the black beans and then repeat the whole process. After drizzling the cheese for the second time, top with diced tomatoes, diced avocado, and chopped cilantro. Serve with lime wedges and enjoy.

The post 5 Solo Activities To Enjoy During The Winter appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Winter can seem like a very romantic time because something about cozying up seems romantic. There are various activities that seem to exclude single people, and there’s no fun in seeing everyone couple up. You don’t have to let couples enjoy an entire season while you sit it out and let your emotions get the better of you.

Regardless of your relationship status, you should always date yourself. That can mean different things for different people, but the general gist is enjoying alone time and treating yourself right. You don’t need to rely on anyone else during this alone time, which can often help relieve stress. There’s nothing like the winter season to start dating yourself. Continue reading to learn where to begin.

Go Ice Skating

As a quick note: don’t go ice skating on a questionable lake by yourself in the middle of nowhere. Ice skating at a holiday rink or on a public frozen pond can seem like a winter date idea, but it isn’t just an activity for couples. Going alone can be just as fun and you don’t have to worry about your skill level, so there is less pressure to “be good.” No need to impress anyone, so bundle up and head to the skating rink, get out on the ice, get in some exercise, and enjoy a hot beverage when you’re done.

Take Yourself To A Show

You don’t have to spend your night in the house just because it’s cold outside. You can enjoy a night indoors and leave your house, too! Take yourself to a concert, show, comedy show, or movie. You can enjoy it with a friend or date, but there are many perks to attending shows alone. You don’t have to worry about abandoning anyone or worrying whether the person is enjoying it or not.

Teach Yourself Something New

One of the best ways to occupy your time and engage your brain is to learn something new. Consider learning a new language with an app or sign up for a drawing or pottery class. You can also take the time to learn a new instrument. There are so many informational tutorials for beginners and experts alike. You can teach yourself via these online videos or courses. The great thing about learning a new skill is that you might learn something new about yourself in the process!

Have A Nostalgia Night

Do you remember the days of living room forts and staying up all night watching TV or playing games? Adulthood doesn’t mean that you have to give up on those nights! Keep your memories alive and make new ones by building a cozy adult fort with pillows and blankets. Spend the night revisiting old TV shows and movies you love. If you have a record player and vinyl records, have a night where you enjoy a glass or two of wine and just listen to your favorite records from front to back. Make some snacks or go out and buy a few favorites from your youth. The possibilities on a nostalgia night are endless!

Cook A Fancy Dinner

This doesn’t just have to be a wintertime activity because you deserve a fancy dinner whenever you want one. Most fancy dinners are labor intensive, so you may not want to go through the effort all the time. That said, consider taking yourself out to dinner if you don’t have the right ingredients or culinary tools on hand. Preparing a quality meal from scratch, while it requires time, often delivers a great sense of accomplishment. Not only will you feel proud of yourself for pulling the dish off, but you’ll also make your taste buds happy.

Ideally, everyone lives a responsible, sustainable lifestyle that helps reduce unnecessary waste. We all know that this isn’t the case, especially during the holiday season. Excess tape, tissue paper, wrapping paper, too much food, boxes, and more means one thing: excess waste. And while we encourage this time of celebration to mean something special, we also want it to benefit your wallet and the planet.

The holidays can wreak havoc on your wallet, but it’s often your own doing. You get caught up in the festivities, but this often results in excess of everything. Since a common desire is to declutter and eliminate excess in the new year, there’s no reason to accumulate during the holidays. Celebrate the holiday season and ring in the new year with a more modest environmental footprint by checking out these budget- and planet-friendly tips

Invest In Durable Decorations

Can you go to a dollar store and buy a bunch of decorations under $20? Yes, that is a strategy for many people, but many of those decorations get tossed after the holidays. Although it may seem counterintuitive, you should spend a little more money on holiday decor. When you spend more on higher quality decorations, they’ll last longer and save you money over time. It also delays their inevitable journey to the landfill.

Buy Climate Neutral Gifts

If you can’t or don’t want to buy secondhand gifts, consider gifts that are climate neutral certified. Think of this certification like the certified organic sticker you see on certain foods, only a climate neutral certification ensures that brands offset, plan, and have plans in place to reduce their carbon footprint. There are many brands that are climate neutral; you just have to search for them online.

Consolidate Online Purchases

Online shopping has made holiday gift shopping more convenient than ever. You never have to enter a store and subject your poor ears to those earworm holiday songs. If you are going to purchase gifts online, try to do it in one fell swoop. Amazon, for example, will give you the option to group items together and have them arrive at a later date. That way, you reduce the amount of packages and trucks needed to deliver packages to you. Minimize the excess by shopping online in as few purchases as possible.

Give The Gift Of Experiences

As you get older, you realize that you don’t need or want a lot of stuff. If you do see something you want, you typically buy it for yourself. A lot of other people don’t want to accumulate things either. Instead of buying a mug or hoodie that you know a person doesn’t need, give the gift of experiences. If you want to be budget-friendly, make a coupon book for coffee dates with mom, dinners with grandpa, bowling with the nephew, or babysitting for your niece. Gifts of service, such as mowing the lawn, making a meal from scratch, or running errands, are also great ideas.

Get Creative With Wrapping Gifts

According to an estimate from Earth911, about 4.6 million pounds of wrapping paper is produced in the U.S. every year. The shimmer, shine, and fun patterns are short-lived, as people tear the paper to shreds to get to the gift. Most wrapping paper is not recyclable, with about 2.3 million pounds of wrapping paper ending up in landfill every year. Gift bags are great to use because you can use them over and over again. For a recyclable option, consider wrapping gifts in old maps or vintage book pages. Save up some brown paper bags that you get at the grocery store and wrap your gifts in them.

Make A Plant-Based Feast

Turkey and ham are the usual suspects at most holiday feasts, but what’s wrong with breaking tradition? Swap out your meaty dishes for plant-based alternatives. According to research from 2021, vegetarian and vegan diets that focused on legumes and whole grains were the least expensive diets around. A 2019 study found that transitioning from an omnivorous diet to a vegan diet lowered personal greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. Roast some Brussels sprouts or bake a platter of root vegetables. If you live in a warmer climate, get a head of cauliflower and cut it into thick steaks for grilling. You can even roast the entire head of cauliflower and smother it in a lemony tahini sauce!

Common Lies That Surround The Thanksgiving Dinner https://www.dherbs.com/articles/common-lies-that-surround-the-thanksgiving-dinner/ Sun, 19 Nov 2023 09:33:00 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?p=167157

Why do people eat so much on Thanksgiving? These are the lies that people tell themselves to reach an unpleasantly bloated state.

The post Common Lies That Surround The Thanksgiving Dinner appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday that brings together friends, family, and, most importantly, flavors. Eating until you can no longer move is almost encouraged on this holiday, but you regret it when you are beyond bloated. Sure, the rolls and mashed potatoes went down smooth with the stuffing and turkey, but was it necessary? Did you have to put your body through that experience again?

In addition to family time and eating, Thanksgiving is really about preparation. The meal is quite a lengthy process, especially if you take on the challenge all by yourself. Between basting the turkey, mashing the potatoes, roasting the Brussels sprouts, and preparing for the onslaught of family members, it’s safe to say that Thanksgiving is overwhelming. That means that you have a lot of preparation to do, especially in regards to your mental health

It’s no secret that the Thanksgiving dinner requires a lot of preparation, but it also requires your mental preparation. There are many lies that surround this holiday, and most of them involve why you feel you should stuff your face. Start this year fresh to better assess how you approach this holiday. When you look at common lies surrounding why you eat a lot, you may end up eating less and feeling better about yourself.

It’s Thanksgiving…So You Need To Gorge

Thanksgiving, much like 4th of July or Labor Day Weekend, is a holiday about excess. This holiday primarily focuses on food, and eating leftovers throughout the weekend is highly encouraged, according to the masses. The reality is that you should be extra careful with what you eat because it is Thanksgiving, after all. Eating too much is too easy, so be extra careful with what you select from the big holiday spread.

The Food Is So Good That You Need To Go Back For Seconds

True, the food is extra special on Thanksgiving. That also means that you need to concentrate on thoroughly enjoying each and every bite. Don’t just eat mindlessly and wolf down forkful after forkful, not taking a second to breathe or enjoy food between bites. In all seriousness, you will enjoy yourself (and the food) much more if you savor what you put on your plate. Don’t overcrowd your plate, either, as a large plate of food is harder to fully appreciate.

You Need To Celebrate By Eating Whatever You Want

Thanksgiving is not your opportunity to fully abandon all of your dietary rules. Is it a time to be appreciative of what you have and for the people who surround you? Yes, absolutely, but that has nothing to do with eating recklessly. You don’t need to express your gratitude via eating excessively. Three pieces of pie doesn’t mean you are more grateful than someone who enjoys food responsibly.

Eat As Much As You Can Now While It’s Here

For the most part, Thanksgiving food is not eaten any other time of year, except for Christmas, maybe. The truth is that you will get to eat the same thing the following day for leftovers. And the even bigger truth is that if you don’t get to eat a side dish on Thanksgiving, you can always make it again some other time. There is no need to stuff your face just because this meal happens once a year. That is a foolish way of thinking!

You Don’t Need To Follow Boundaries On Holidays

Ahhh, this is potentially the biggest lie that surrounds the holiday season. In fact, people know that they gain more weight during this time of year than the rest of the year. New Year’s resolutions will take care of it, right? Wrong! Boundaries protect you and your life, and your overall health, will benefit if you don’t stuff yourself on Thanksgiving. You will also feel better the next morning when you wake up knowing that you followed your boundaries. Be strong and your body will thank you!

It’s There And You Can’t Help Yourself

If you fill your mind with the truth before you sit down to eat, the likelihood of you stuffing your face is much lower. Don’t believe the common lies surrounding Thanksgiving and prepare yourself mentally to have a healthier, less-bloated experience.
