This could be the prettiest salad/slaw you make throughout the winter. It is very crunchy, crisp, refreshing, and slightly tangy. Filled with purple cabbage, carrots, pears, and pomegranates, there is no shortage of nutrients in this slaw. Plus, the vitamin C-rich citrus vinaigrette keeps you coming back bite after bite. If you love a dish that has texture and different levels of flavor, this is the slaw that will satisfy your taste buds. All other slaws will bow to this one!

A slaw is very versatile because you can enjoy it as an entree salad, side dish, or put it on sandwiches. Because of the sweet and slightly tart flavors, this slaw complements numerous entrees and sandwich toppings. As a quick note, the sandwiches are only for people who are not cleansing! This slaw may be cleanse-approved, but a sandwich is not. That said, you could roll up this slaw in a collard leaf to make a raw vegan wrap. Use one of our many nut meat mixtures or nut cheeses in the wraps for for added sustenance.

The slaw is as tasty as it is beautiful. The sweetness of the pear goes great with the tart and juicy pomegranate arils and slightly bitter purple cabbage. The citrus vinaigrette takes it to another level, though. In the words of Guy Fieri, “You could put that on a flip flop!” It’s so good that you could drink it! Save the dressing recipe because you may want to use it on other salads in the future. And as a last piece of advice, you can let the slaw sit in the dressing for an hour or two before serving so that the ingredients can soak up that citrus flavor.

It’s time that we take a break from avocado chocolate pudding because we have posted a handful of those recipes. This recipe, which is also raw vegan, requires five minutes of your time, a blender or food processor, and the ingredients. It is a decadent dessert that is the perfect balance of bitter and sweet, due to the raw cacao powder and maple syrup combo. It’s just beautiful that you can satisfy your craving for chocolate while cleansing. If we can provide that type of freedom for you, we will!

Chocolate in the form of a rich chocolate pudding is something to smile about. It isn’t as rich as fudge and you don’t have to feel guilty about eating it. This pudding is far from the unhealthy processed ingredients that you find in chocolate bars. It is also unlike other pudding recipes, which typically require cooking and simmering on the stove. That doesn’t work when you want chocolate and you want it now! This takes the elongated cook time out of the equation, so you only have to blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy.

Cashews, as you probably know, are quite amazing. They provide healthy fats, fiber, protein, minerals, and vitamins, but they also make a great base for puddings. If you want an easier time blending them, consider soaking them in water for about two hours before you make this recipe. Just make sure to discard the soaking liquid prior to blending everything together. Finally, make sure to top your pudding with things you like to eat, so long as they are cleanse-approved. Consider topping the pudding with raw nuts or fresh berries!

3 Signs You Should Use A Scalp Serum https://www.dherbs.com/articles/3-signs-you-should-use-a-scalp-serum/ Mon, 11 Nov 2024 09:21:00 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?p=172920

It is not always clear if certain beauty items are necessary, but scalp serums can help benefit dryness, thinning hair, and congested roots.

It seems that the beauty industry continues to suggest new products for your skin and hair that you “absolutely need.” If you have a difficult time managing facial skin, hair, or scalp, then you may quickly purchase these items in hopes of remedying the issue(s). What you end up with is a cabinet full of masks, oils, exfoliants, serums, creams, lotions, and more. Is there an end to this madness?

Believe it or not, and we are not about to sell you on a product, but scalp serums make up a big part of this beauty shift. There are buzz-worthy formulas and ingredients in products, but are they really necessary? If you deal with certain scalp issues, though, you may benefit from using a simple scalp serum. We’ll detail three signs that may make you want to consider a scalp serum

Flakes Or Dryness

It’s possible to see two types of flakes on the scalp: dandruff and dryness, the former of which calls for targeted treatment, such as social shampoos. Dandruff is seborrheic dermatitis, which is a form of eczema, and it is caused by Malassezia furfur, which is a type of yeast. Dermatologists note that dandruff flare-ups tend to happen for several reasons, but the most common are stress and changes in weather (both cold and humid temperatures).

A dry scalp may reveal symptoms, such as itchiness, flakes, tight skin, redness, or ashiness, some of which overlap with dandruff’s symptoms. If you see dryness-induced flakes, seek out a hydrating scalp serum that contains peptides, hyaluronic acid, and similar ingredients.

General Or Localized Thinning

Hair thinning tends to result from miniaturization, a process during which the diameter of the hair shaft decreases in size. That can result from hormone-related hair loss, stress-related hair loss, or the buildup of natural oils and products on the scalp. The latter only happens if you do not wash your hair enough, or you frequently use heavy products on the scalp, such as dry shampoo. Thinning can be a sign that your scalp needs a little extra TLC, especially with a serum focused on hair growth. Click here to make a natural scalp serum that may help you grow your hair.

Congestion Surrounding Roots

Congestion may not be the first word you think of regarding your hair and scalp, but it can happen there as well. Generally speaking, a congested scalp is full of buildup from various hair products, dead skin, and natural oils. If you get close enough to the mirror, you may see a little skin visible under the buildup between hair strands. You can also massage your scalp with your fingers and see if the buildup has broken up after.

In order to get rid of buildup, you will need a scalp serum that contains an exfoliant. Detox treatments, as some people call them, are great for cleansing the scalp and removing buildup. A scalp scrub can also be a great first step before applying a serum. Use these scalp serums before you wash your hair and consider following it up with a hydrating scalp serum, just as you would moisturize your face after using a cleansing scrub

Ultimately, you should treat your scalp a little more like skin and a little less like hair. That means you use scalp serums when necessary, especially if you notice dryness, thinning hair, or product buildup.

If you are new to cashew milk, you are in for a serious treat. A lot of people enjoy almond milk or oat milk because they are readily available in stores. Making your own nut or seed milk is a very easy process. You just need a blender, a cheesecloth or nut milk bag, and something to store the liquid in. While a nut or seed milk is just two ingredients (the seed/nut and water), sometimes it is nice to add a little more flavor. You can do this by adding certain spices, agave nectar, or dates. In the case of this cinnamon date cashew milk, you get hints of spice from cinnamon and a richer, sweeter flavor from the dates. It’s perfect for your smoothie or to just enjoy as is. You can even put it in your coffee once you finish cleansing!

Cashew milk can be a little expensive in the stores, but you can save a little money when you make your own. Plus, making your own cashew milk means that you get to avoid thickeners, emulsifying agents, added sugars, and processed ingredients. It is better than any store bought cashew milk you will ever buy! With a whole cup of cashews in this recipe, you will incorporate some healthy fats and fiber into the nut milk. Using raw cashews not only makes this nut raw vegan, but it also helps you control the salt and flavor. If you do not have a strong blender, soak your cashews in water for a couple hours before blending. Just make sure to discard the soaking liquid before blending the cashews with the rest of the ingredients.

Chia pudding is always a hit during your cleansing experience. It’s a highly enjoyable breakfast item that gives you some reprieve from smoothies. Just to be clear, this is not a smoothie-bashing post. We love smoothies and they are an excellent way to consume a lot of nutrients in one fell swoop. Chia pudding is another great way to consume a lot of nutrients in one meal. It’s also an excellent meal option to fill up on the cleanse, especially for breakfast because it contains a lot of fiber, protein, and healthy fats.

Anyone can make chia pudding, but we decided to elevate this recipe with some juicy summer peaches. We went with white peaches, which have a more delicate, floral sweetness than intense yellow peaches. These peaches bruise more easily, so be careful when handling them. Some people appreciate white peaches more than the yellow varieties because they aren’t tart. Instead, they are more aromatic and lightly sweet, which makes them great to include in chia pudding. In fact, the extra kiss of sweetness from the maple syrup helps balance this breakfast dish.

Chia pudding is a great option if you want to meal prep your breakfast. You can make a larger batch, but you may want to freeze the jars if you are making enough for a week. The reason for this is that chia pudding will only last two to three days tops in the fridge. So if you want to have two to three days of the same breakfast, this recipe will can get you there. Good luck and let us know how you like it in the comments.

Finding ripe mangos in the supermarket is such a lovely treat. You can enjoy them raw as a healthy snack, blend them into smoothies, add them as a topping to chia pudding, or incorporate them into healthy desserts. Mangos are incredibly versatile and go great with a variety of flavors. They provide a tropical sweetness that can refresh you on a hot day, making them a great fruit for summer.

Summertime is the best time to make homemade popsicles. Just make sure that you enjoy them quickly before all of that deliciously frozen mango starts melting onto your hands. Unlike traditional popsicles that you buy in the store, these mango popsicles don’t freeze in the same way. That is because of the sugar! Natural sugars don’t necessarily freeze the same way as high fructose corn syrup and other processed sugars, which are typically in store bought popsicles. This recipe calls for maple syrup, but you can use raw agave nectar as a direct swap if you have it on hand.

For this recipes, you will need six cups of mango chunks. If fresh mangos are not readily available for you, you can use frozen mangos, provided they do not have added sugars or preservatives. That is a great cleansing hack for smoothies or other recipes that require frozen fruit! Lastly, if you have silicone popsicle molds, use them because the popsicles come out much more easily than they do from plastic molds.

Homemade salad dressings are just the best! This vinaigrette, in particular, is vibrant in flavor and lightyears beyond any store bought variety. It is simple to make and provides a sweet and tangy flavor. You can use it in both sweet and savory applications. For example, you may pour it over a bowl of mixed greens and assorted veggies or a fresh bowl of fruit. It’s so flavorful, that you may just want to take a swig of it!

Poppy seeds do not typically make an appearance in our recipes. Some people only ever see these little seeds in lemon poppy muffins or almond poppy muffins. What purpose do they serve, though? First of all, they offer a subtle, crunchy texture and tiny pop in every bite. That makes for a pleasant contrast in every bite. Poppy seeds don’t have a strong flavor, but they do impart a subtle nuttiness, which complements the acidity of the orange and apple cider vinegar. Consuming poppy seeds, even in small amounts, can help increase your intake of iron, fiber, healthy fats, magnesium, and calcium.

Besides being visually stunning, this poppy seed vinaigrette is full of flavor. The brightness pairs beautifully with spinach, arugula, or mixed greens. You can also add mandarin oranges, strawberries, avocado, or peaches to the salad, as the dressing complements them. You can also use this dressing as a marinade, or you can drizzle it over roasted vegetables, just as long as you aren’t cleansing. We hope you like it!

Chia pudding is an excellent breakfast, nutritious snack, or healthy sweet treat. Even though people commonly enjoy chia pudding as a breakfast, it often feels like a sweet indulgence. There is no shortage of chia pudding recipes on our website, some of which are quite unique. You can really make it your own and get creative with what you include. You can go the plain route, adding just a hint of sweetness, or you can blend different fruits into the mix.

Summer is the season of cherries, and they’ve started showing up in grocery stores. Although you can purchase Rainier cherries or sour cherries, the best variety for this recipe are the classic, dark red sweet cherries. They are both sweet and tart, so you don’t have to worry about an overly sweet pudding. If you are worried about sweetness and prefer things on the tarter side, start with less maple syrup and increase as needed. You don’t have to include any maple syrup if you feel that the cherries will provide enough sweetness on their own.

Although this recipe calls for homemade almond milk, you can use any homemade nut or seed milk that you make from scratch. That said, you can use other store bought non-dairy milks if you are not cleansing. Finally, if you are one of those people who despises coconut, you do not have to include it in this recipe.

It might not be the Summer of Love, but you’ll love these summery, homemade popsicles. With just three simple, real-food ingredients, these strawberry orange popsicles are to die for. It’s like a sweet and tangy union of strawberries and oranges, with a sweet note from the maple syrup. It’s like a match made in flavor heaven, or in this case, your freezer. You can enjoy them as an adult or make them for your kids. You’re never too old to enjoy a popsicle, especially if the weather is hot!

What’s great about these popsicles is that they are so easy to make. You need three ingredients, a blender, and popsicle molds. We recommend using silicone popsicle molds because you can get the pops out of them much more easily than a classic plastic mold. You know those old school popsicle molds that broke the pops as you tried to take them out.

Homemade strawberry orange popsicles have a just the right amount of sweetness with a tiny hint of tartness. They are loaded with vitamin C and have very few calories. Because strawberries are usually on the Dirty Dozen list (click here for more info on that), we recommend that you get organic strawberries. Also, if you are not cleansing, you do not have to make freshly squeezed orange juice. We do encourage you to purchase the option that is cold-pressed, though, as most store bought orange juice varieties contain preservatives and excess sugar.

A quick warning about these energy bites: you have to be careful not to scarf down every single one all at once! These mango cashew and ginger energy bites are some of the better ones we’ve put out on our website. They are tropical, slightly sweet, and have a subtle kick from the fresh ginger root. Roll these little balls of nutritious goodness in desiccated coconut for an extra textural and flavorful element. If you dislike coconut (we know you’re out there), then you can skip the coconut.

Another thing to note about this recipe is that it calls for dried mango, not fresh mango. If the recipe contained fresh mango, the consistency would not be correct. Additionally, they would not last as long in the fridge. When purchasing dried mango, make sure that you purchase a bag that does not contain added sugars or preservatives like sulfur dioxide. Those ingredients render the dried fruit unhealthy and you cannot consume them while cleansing. Natural is best!

Energy bites are great because they double as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack, helping to satiate you between meals. They also make for great pre- or post-workout snacks that help provide your muscles with nutrients they need to perform or recover. The last thing we’ll say is that, although these energy bites are not a tropical ray of sunshine, they may help brighten your day. Or at least they’ll make your taste buds happy, and that’s the real win!
