Even though they may not be as expensive or fancy, handmade gifts tend to mean more than those bought in the store. Obviously, a homemade sugar scrub is not the same as a brand new laptop, but top-tier electronics are not always in the budget. Perhaps the laptop is in the budget, but you want to give a lot of gifts to friends, colleagues, and family. A great way to do that is by making your own beauty gifts.

Heartfelt, homemade gifts always put a smile on the gift receiver’s face. It’s a beautiful gesture and people appreciate the time you took to make them something. The great thing about homemade sugar scrubs, bath bombs, soaps, or lotions is that you can make large batches and portion them out into small containers. Decorate the containers to your liking! You can even adhere labels on them that detail the ingredients or instructions to whatever you make.

Since dry skin is very common during the winter, there are several DIY beauty recipes in this article that help moisturize the skin. There’s nothing wrong with giving a gift that improves skin health! Your gifts may be so well received that you have some repeat customers the following year. Or maybe you share the recipe(s) with your friends and family so they can enjoy the products year round.

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season and hope these gifts go over well, should you decide to make and gift them. They are perfect for anyone on a budget, and the best part is that they are free of harmful chemicals. Let us know in the comments if you make one of the recipes, and if the people enjoy them as gifts!

Shopping during the holidays is no easy feat, especially if you brave crowded malls to handpick items. Online shopping is so readily available and easy, making it a much less stressful experience. Regardless of how you do your holiday shopping, it is fun to do, especially if your entire mission is to show people how much you love them.

Gone are the days of just giving gifts to give them. Thoughtful, personal, and practical gifts are much more appreciated by the receiver. And the great thing about a gift that fits in these categories is that it doesn’t have to be expensive. There are many useful or meaningful gifts that are budget-friendly. You may or may not have some of these gifts in mind for certain loved ones, but we’re here to help in case you don’t. You’ll find plenty of inspiration for others, or yourself, by exploring the following list of healthy gift ideas

Mental Health Gifts

A Subscription To Mindfulness Apps

If you know that someone struggles with their mental health, consider giving them an entire year of pick-me-ups. There are many apps that offer various services, including meditation, breath work, workouts, and morning motivation. The person you give it to may indulge in a one-minute deep breathing break, or a three-hour procrastinating-fighting playlist. For the person that loves breathing exercises, there are specific breath work apps that can help you harness the power of breath!

A Weighted Blanket

If you or someone you know needs a snuggly gift that boosts mental health, the weighted blanket is an excellent gift. Weighted blankets work to activate the parasympathetic nervous system by applying pressure therapy. That can help the body enter the rest-and-digest state, which helps in relieving anxiety, stress, and sleep issues. There are many weighted blankets on the market, so you may want to choose the one based on the material you or the gift receiver will enjoy.

Online Art Therapy Classes

Art therapy can have powerful mental health benefits because it provides a creative outlet for you to express your feelings and emotions. Research suggests that artistic expression is a great stress reliever and powerful way to reduce anxiety and self-worth. Give your most creative friend a subscription for an online class library, which includes various art therapy courses. If the online subscription doesn’t sound good, consider gifting some art classes at a local studio.

Calming Gifts That Promote Recovery

Percussive Massage Gun

The great thing about percussive massage guns is that they are readily available at varying costs. You can spend anywhere from $30 to $500+ on these massage guns, just so you are aware of the range. Make sure to read reviews and see which attachments or shapes are best for your body. They provide just the right amount of pressure to help relieve muscle tension and have excellent battery lives. Consider getting a small travel-size one for someone who travels a lot.

Acupuncture Mat

This is the perfect gift for anyone who is always on their feet. An acupuncture mat is slightly cushioned with plastic spikes that target acupressure points in your feet. You can also lay on the mat on your back to help improve circulation and provide pain relief. It is foldable and easy to bring on the go if you want!

At-Home Spa Day Gifts

A Cozy Bathrobe

Treat yourself or a loved one to a five-star bathrobe that is incredibly cozy. These are perfect for at-home spa days, or just relaxing on leisurely mornings. You can even go the extra mile and have the robe embroidered with the recipient’s initials.

A Heating Pad

Anyone who experiences regular muscle pain will appreciate this gift. A heating pad works to relax the muscles and provide relief from joint stiffness. Heat invites more blood to the area of application, which is integral for the recovery process. It can also be a great gift for anyone who experiences menstrual cramps

Bath Bombs

There is no reason that you need to soak in plain warm water when so many bath additions are available. Bath bombs are beautifully scented, they color the water, and help your skin feel so much better than it did before the bath. Consider getting a bath bomb set so that there are various options to choose from.

Have you seen those stock photos where people hug pumpkins like their own children? Well, that’s the epitome of a pumpkin lover, and it expresses how many people feel about autumn. As summer transitions to fall, the weather changes and pumpkin spice drinks, desserts, and more arrive to many restaurant menus. Besides the baked goods and sugary beverages, there are pumpkin candles, lotions, and now these DIY pumpkin spice bath bombs.

On a chilly fall evening, there’s no better way to relax than by soaking in a soothing bath. Inhaling the festive scent and looking at the color of these bath bombs is enough to put you in a state of relaxation. The only thing to keep in mind is that the bath bomb may potentially turn the tub orange, especially if it is white. A little cleaning and elbow grease will wash the orange away, but just keep this in mind when you use these bath bombs.

Note: If you do not want to deal with an orange tub, you can omit the orange gel dye. The bath bombs will then be whiteish and you can easily clean the tub after use.

Epsom Salt

The two main components of Epsom salt are magnesium and sulfate. Researchers believe that this combination works to stimulate the body’s natural detoxification pathways. Soaking in a bath with Epsom salt can help exfoliate dead skin cells and contribute to softer skin. People with eczema or psoriasis tend to find that Epsom salt baths can help relieve symptoms. Should you have sensitive skin or a skin condition, it may be beneficial to consult with your doctor before you add Epsom salt to your bath.

Baking Soda

Almost every person has baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, in their home. Baking soda fully dissolves in water and works to remove bacteria, odors, and acidity. For these reasons, it may be helpful for people with certain skin conditions. Adding baking soda to a bath can help naturally relax muscles and reduce stress levels. The warm water may also promote sweating, which helps release toxins and allows the baking soda to cleanse pores. It’s possible that people with eczema may benefit from adding baking soda to bathwater during a flare up.

Pumpkin Pie Spice

Pumpkin spice lattes may not be healthy for you, but pumpkin pie spice is. Comprised of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice, pumpkin pie spice offers beneficial antioxidants and nutrients for the skin. Allspice, for example, contains compounds that may prevent bacterial infections. Some studies found that it exhibits anti-fungal and antiseptic properties. Cinnamon also exhibits anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties that may fight acne and blemishes. Finally, cinnamon is an excellent pore cleanser and it may also encourage healthy blood flow to the skin.

DIY Pumpkin Spice Bath Bombs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/3 cup corn starch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salt
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil
  • 20 drops pumpkin pie essential oil
  • Orange gel dye

Instructions:

  • Add the baking soda, citric acid, corn starch, Epsom salt, and pumpkin pie spice to a large bowl and mix well to combine.
  • Add in the coconut oil and essential oil to the bowl and mix well.
  • Whisk in about 8-10 drops of the gel food coloring and add more until the mixture clumps a little when you grab it. You can omit this step if you don’t want the orange color.
  • Pack the mixture into two bath bomb molds, or silicone sphere ice trays. The size of the mold will determine how many bath bombs you end up with.
  • Once the bath bombs are firm and dry, carefully remove them from the molds and place them in an airtight container. Use when ready.

It’s hard to purchase a special gift for your mother on Mother’s Day. A bouquet of flowers and a personalized card is always a lovely gesture, but sometimes you need to change up your gift game. After all, you are giving a gift to the woman who brought you into this world. All mothers deserve the very best, but it’s still difficult to shop for them.

One thing that we can all agree on is that all mothers deserve as much self care as possible. They don’t always go out of the way to pamper themselves, which means that you have to give them the time and gift for that to happen. Perhaps your mother is a yogi who loves a good sun salutation. An anti-slip, cushioned yoga mat may be the best gift to give her. Other moms may cry when they open an envelope with a massage gift certificate inside.

No matter if your mom is into healthy cooking, aromatherapy, or other forms of health, this article has all the best Mother’s Day gift ideas. Moms may not go out of their way to buy these gifts on their own, leaving the door wide open for all of you, husbands, sons, and daughters.

Quality Tea

As a quick disclaimer: don’t go buy cheap boxes of tea bags at the grocery store and think that that is special. Consider an elegant, herbal tea variety pack that helps to lower stress levels. It’s no secret that all moms experience a lot of stress every day, so help her wind down to a calmer state. You can even turn the gift into a fun night of tea tasting. On a related note, consider purchasing a tea tasting outing if that is available in your city.

A New Fitness Tracker

Some moms can’t let a day go by without reaching the goal of 10,000 steps. Those neighborhood strolls or treadmill jogs keep moms motivated, fit, and healthy. In addition to monitoring steps, many new fitness trackers log sleep, activity, recovery, calories burned, and more. Some can even go 10 days without charging!

Cold & Hot Eye Mask

This may be one of the best self-care gifts that you can get a mother. The trials of motherhood can result in a lot of tired mornings with puffy eyes and dark circles. A hot and cold eye mask tends to have reusable ice gels that can help control puffiness, but it also works as a heat pad. The back and forth combo of hot and cold is the perfect remedy to restore a mother’s eyes to perfection.

An At-Home Massage

Some mothers say that they are too busy to drive out of their way to a massage place. Bring the masseuse to your mother with an at-home massage. Let your mother experience true relaxation and give her a tranquil break. You can even accompany this gift with a soothing candle, body butter, or other skin care items like face masks and moisturizers.

Bath Bombs

Is there a mom who doesn’t deserve a relaxing soak in the tub? While there are many stores that sell bath bombs nowadays, it’s very easy to make your own. In fact, we have a great bath bomb recipe (click here to learn how to make them) that can often mean more as gifts. We always say that nothing beats a homemade gift!

A Diffuser

Whether the goal is to relieve anxiety, promote sounder sleep, or invigorate the soul, a diffuser can help get the job done. It’s wise to accompany this gift with a set of essential oils, so consider making that duo a tag-team Mother’s Day gift. She can keep it by the bed, place it on the kitchen countertop, or have it in the living room. One thing is for certain: she’ll feel her best when the diffuser is emitting the scents of essential oils.

A Day At The Spa

Even though the country is not completely out of the woods in regards to COVID-19, many spas are currently open. There are stricter guidelines in place and many facilities have modified options with reduced capacity. Consider making this gift a surprise! Get in the car together, drop her off, and pick her up when she’s fully relaxed.

The Gift Of Time

Moms can always use more of one thing and one thing only: time. They devote all of their time and energy to caring for everyone, but turn that around and spend Mother’s Day taking of them. Make a special meal and allow her to relax. Go grocery shopping or have groceries delivered to the house. Finally, prepare a fun activity that will keep the kids entertained so that mom can relax and not worry about anything.

Bath bombs are fun and frizzy creations that transform your bath from a simple soak to a tranquil experience. The heavenly aromas and exciting colors make bath time a new experience, but bath bombs can be quite costly. If you’re a budget-conscious person and enjoy making your own beauty products, give yourself, and your skin, a gift by making these lavender oatmeal bath bombs.

Lavender is the perfect scent if you need to invite relaxation into your life. Combine the calming scent with the skin-soothing properties of oats, baking soda, Epsom salt, and the other ingredients in these bath bombs, and you’ve got one great DIY product. Lavender, oats, and Epsom salt are excellent for dry or itchy skin, so these bath bombs are quite therapeutic, both for the mind and body. You can keep them for yourself, or you can package them nicely to give as gifts.

How To Make Homemade Bath Bombs

Ultimately, it’s a lot easier than it seems. We just want to make that very clear. It’s essentially a combination of dry ingredients with some liquid ingredients that you compress in sphere molds. The key instruction in this process is to add the liquid ingredients, specifically water, to the dry ingredients very slowly. This is to avoid any fizzing because you want that to occur in the bath and the bath only. Once they are firm, they are ready to make a splash in your bath. The reason that they fizz is because they contain baking soda.

Benefits Of Oats For The Skin

Oats are some of the best breakfast ingredients that offer fiber, protein, and complex carbohydrates, but they’re also great for the skin. If you have dry skin, acne, or excess oil production, oats have the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to calm these conditions. When it comes to dry skin, which is all to common in colder weather, oats work to naturally remove dead skin cells and moisturize. Additionally, the mild pH level work to cool inflamed skin that occurs during a rash or infection.

Benefits Of Lavender Essential Oil For The Skin

The legendary lavender flower has a fragrant aroma that helps to naturally calm the mind. It has popular use in aromatherapy and is a favorite among essential oil enthusiasts. Since acne is often caused by dry skin that produces excess sebum, you need an ingredient that helps to gently hydrate and moisturize. Lavender essential oil works to gently moisturize the skin and is non-comedogenic for your pores, which helps to decrease acne. Lavender essential oil is also an anti-inflammatory superstar, helping to calm inflamed areas on the skin, for example, rashes, eczema or psoriasis.

Benefits Of Baking Soda For The Skin

Can baking soda solve your skin problems? For some people, the answer is, “Yes!” Baking soda is a safe ingredient to use on your skin, as it works to clear up acne, remove dead skin cells, tighten pores, and fight skin infections. The anti-inflammatory properties of baking soda help reduce the frequency of acne, and may even discourage pimples from appearing again. Baking soda also helps to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells to contribute to a healthier glow.

DIY Lavender Oatmeal Bath Bombs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup quick cook oats
  • 1.5 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon lavender essential oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon water (only if you absolutely need it)
  • bath bomb mold

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, whisk the baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, Epsom salt, and oats.
  • Slowly but surely, add the coconut oil and lavender essential oil. Mix thoroughly and only, we repeat only, add the water if necessary. And do so slowly if you add the water.
  • The way to test whether or not you need water is by grabbing a handful of the mixture, squeezing it, and seeing it it stays together without falling apart. If it does, you don’t need water.
  • Compress the mixture into sphere molds and make sure to press down firmly in order to ensure that the bath bombs are compacted. You can either use metal sphere molds or silicone molds.
  • After compressing the bath bombs, remove them from the molds and set them out to air dry before storing them in an airtight container.
  • To use, drop one bath bomb in a warm bath and allow yourself to slip into a relaxed state of mind.

There’s nothing like entering a steam room and feeling immediate relief from congestion upon taking your first deep breath. The peppermint and eucalyptus, combined with the steam, help to calm the mind, relieve stress, and provide relief from colds or sinus troubles. Imagine if you could have that relief whenever you wanted, without leaving the house. As it turns out, you can.

Shower bombs, which are similar to bath bombs, fill the shower with pungent aromas from whichever essential oils that you put in them. This article focuses on shower bombs that contain peppermint essential oil, which is an excellent choice if you are feeling under the weather. Peppermint essential oil has the reputation of being one of the most versatile, beneficial oils out there, making it a great candidate for these shower bombs.

Tips For Making Shower Bombs

When you decide to make shower bombs, silicone molds will make your life so much easier. The flexibility of silicone molds allows for easy removal of the shower bombs, once they have hardened. This recipe uses peppermint essential oil, but you can use a combination of other oils that pique your interest. If you use a combination of three oils, only use 1-2 drops per oil. A great trio of oils is eucalyptus, cinnamon, and rosemary.

Benefits of Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint has expectorant properties, helping to open airways, reduce congestion, clear out mucus, and reduce the pain of a sore throat. It also works to unclog sinuses by relaxing the muscles in the nasal passages. Additionally, peppermint essential oil helps to improve circulation to the brain, providing relief from tension headaches. The cooling sensation also helps to reduce nausea, and you may even find that these peppermint shower bombs help to relax sore muscles and reduce joint pain.

Benefits Of Baking Soda

Baking soda has many uses outside the kitchen, and it is a common ingredient in DIY beauty products. While you won’t be scrubbing these shower bombs on your body to reap the exfoliating properties of baking soda, your toenails will be absorbing the antifungal properties, which help to ward off nail fungus or infections. Try to purchase aluminum-free baking soda for the best results. One thing to keep in mind about baking soda is that too much is not good for your skin, especially sensitive skin. Don’t use these shower bombs in excess; allow at least a couple days between each use.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup filtered water
  • 6 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 1 cup baking soda

Instructions:

  • Combine the water and peppermint essential oil in small bowl and stir gently. Add the baking soda to a separate medium bowl and slowly pour in the water mixture, whisking as you pour. The goal is to have a dry, thick paste, but you can add a little more water if it is too dry.
  • Spoon the paste into silicone molds and make sure that you pack them in to help them set. Let them dry completely at room temperature. This may take one or two days.
  • Carefully remove the shower bombs from the molds and store them in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
  • When ready to use, place the peppermint shower bomb in the corner of your shower once the water is hot. It will slowly start to break down as the water hits it. This is when you will smell the beautiful peppermint aroma.

Soaking in a bath is an incredible sensory experience. Occupational therapists say that a child’s fine motor and visual motor skills are improved as he or she plays with bath toys. While children may be more sensitive and thrilled about the bubbles, sound of splashing water, bonding with parents or siblings, and bathroom echoes, adults can enjoy baths too. Your inner child may still be excited by bubbles and echoes, and that’s okay! You don’t need an excuse or special reason to take a bath; just take one.

A Brief History

On this day in history, the story goes that Archimedes, a Greek mathematician and scholar, discovered that an object’s volume could be accurately measured by being submerged in water. He was taking a bath at the time, but was so ecstatic that he jumped out of the bath and ran naked through the streets of Syracuse, Greece shouting, “Eureka! Eureka!”

The time you spend in the bath doesn’t have to be profound like it was for Archimedes, although certain people do some of their best thinking in the tub. You can have fun in the bath with your child(ren)! In a recent survey conducted with 300 U.S. mothers, 73% of them believed it was important to use bath time as a way to discover and explore. Check out some quick bath facts from the study below:

  • 58% of the moms gave their child a bath 4-7 times a week
  • 90% of the moms looked forward to bath time because their child was more relaxed and happy afterwards
  • 65% of the moms used bubbles during bath time

How The Temperature Affects You

The temperature of your bath can offer a variety of therapeutic benefits. While a piping hot soak can provide relief from muscle pain or temporarily block your pain sensors, a warm bath can benefit the immune system. After a hard workout, a cold bath may be better to help decrease the built-up lactic acid in the bloodstream. The cold temperature also works to improve recovery time.

Keep in mind that the time at which you take a bath can also affect the body in different ways. A warm bath in the evening may help to relax the body and induce a better night’s sleep, while a morning bath can be beneficial for creative ideas.

Bath bombs are fun and they make your bath extra comfortable. They are fizzy, colorful, and typically help to moisturize and soothe your skin. This all sounds amazing and wonderful for you body, but there is a catch. Most of these bath bombs contain toxic dyes and fragrances that can be detrimental to your health. On a more positive note, we found a great homemade bath bomb recipe, and you can even give them as gifts this holiday season.

Before you gather ingredients, you need to purchase some bath bomb molds, which can be purchased online. If you can’t find specific bath bomb molds, you can also use silicone ice or cookie trays to make fun shapes. You can even use muffin tins!

The ingredients in this bath bomb recipe work to naturally soothe itchy or dry skin, and can even be beneficial in relieving muscle pain. We recommend making this mixture in bulk because this ingredient list only makes about two big bath bombs. The amount you get out of one batch will also depend on the size of the bath bombs. Good luck and let us know how they turned out.

Tools:

  • Spray bottle filled with filtered water
  • Medium glass bowl
  • 2 metal/silicone bath bomb molds (or molds of your choice)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1/3 cup Epsom salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar (for the fizz effect)
  • 2 tablespoons virgin coconut oil, melted
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
  • ½ teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or other herb of your choice, like lavender)

Instructions:

  • Combine the baking soda, Epsom salt, cream of tartar, and chopped rosemary in a medium glass bowl. Mix well and then stir in the coconut oil and peppermint essential oil.
  • As you mix the ingredients, spritz the mixture with the water in the spray bottle. The mixture should be crumbly, but should hold form when you squeeze it.
  • Scoop the mixture into the molds of your choice. Firmly press the mixture into the molds. If you are using bomb molds, overfill each side before putting them together. Place your molds in a cool, dry place to set for about 4 hours. If your mold has a detailed shape, let the mixture set for at least 24 hours.
  • Loosen your bath bombs from the molds and use when ready.
