Isn’t it interesting that Brussels sprouts used to be the vegetable that everyone loved to hate? Grandmothers steamed them in the kitchen and the house smelled terrible, making you detest this nutrient-dense cruciferous vegetable. In recent years, though, Brussels sprouts have risen to popularity. It’s difficult to go to a restaurant and not find some version of Brussels sprouts on the menu. More often than not, they are usually an appetizer dish served with a creamy dressing of sorts.

One factor that deters people from making Brussels sprouts at home is that they never seem to be the same as they are in restaurants. How do you achieve the perfect combination of being perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside? Some people steam or boil them prior to roasting them, which cooks the Brussels and then all you have to do is broil them for optimum char. This is a multi-step process that can be a hassle, which brings us to the beautiful invention that is the air fryer.

Roasting Brussels sprouts in the air fryer is a much faster cook than roasting them in the oven. The same magic from the oven happens in the air fryer as well, in a fraction of the time! Because balsamic vinegar and Brussels sprouts are a match made in heaven, we’ve done our best to create an appetizer or side to remember. They are crispy and have a classic sweet tang that your taste buds will love. If you enjoy this vegan recipe, let us know in the comment section!

We are going to show you how easy it is to make bruschetta, the vegan way. It is a simple yet impressive appetizer that takes about 10 minutes to make. Not only is bruschetta a classic appetizer that most people enjoy, but this one is also vegan, dairy-free, nut-free, and soy-free. It can even be gluten-free if you choose gluten-free bread.

When making bruschetta, you want high quality ingredients because it is a fresh dish. For this reason, we recommend that you use heirloom tomatoes, which offer a rich, sweet and slightly tart flavor profile. They are only enhanced by the herbs, seasonings, garlic, and olive oil. Speaking of which, we encourage you to use cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil for this vegan appetizer. The richness of that type of olive oil only enhances the natural flavors of the rest of the ingredients.

A typical bruschetta recipe contains parmesan cheese, but this recipe does not. If your taste buds yearn for that signature, sharp cheesy flavor, feel free to sprinkle in some nutritional yeast. Certain vegan food manufacturers also make vegan parmesan, which you can include in this recipe if you want. This recipe, however, only uses simple, fresh ingredients that speak for themselves. We promise that you’ll fall in love with this vegan bruschetta immediately after your first bite. Wanting a little more pizzazz? Hit your bruschetta with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar!

Figs are some of our favorite summer produce items, but they rarely get the attention they deserve. They have an inherent sweetness, so they can withstand strong flavors like the balsamic vinegar in this recipe. Additionally, figs contain a variety of nutrients, including phosphorus, potassium, manganese, and vitamins A, B1, and B2. People consume more dried figs than fresh figs, but we hope to change your view of fresh figs with this recipe. It is not cleanse-approved, but it is a great post-cleanse recipe. Get your hands on fresh figs while they are in season!

The post The Most Common Foods You Think You Can Eat While Cleansing appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

People who participate in Dherbs cleanses are occasionally confused about the raw vegan diet. We’ve heard it all, folks, and the questions about the cleansing diet will never stop. This is completely normal because the raw vegan diet forces you to focus on foods that people often neglect. These foods include raw fruits, vegetables, and raw nuts and seeds. Yet, there are still questions about the diet, and this article intends to clear up the confusion surrounding the foods that people think are cleanse-approved.

YOU CAN ONLY CONSUME RAW FRUITS, VEGETABLES, AND RAW NUTS AND SEEDS WHILE CLEANSING. YOU CANNOT COOK THESE ITEMS AND YOU CANNOT CONSUME MEAT, FISH, POULTRY, PROCESSED FOODS, REFINED SUGARS, ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, COFFEE, OR SUGARY BOTTLED BEVERAGES.

Despite those instructions, we still receive questions about eating beans, chicken, or roasted vegetables while cleansing. Sure, there are a few additional items (like spices, nutritional yeast, olive oil, raw apple cider vinegar, and certain raw vegan items) that are acceptable to consume. Yet, questions about beans, canned foods, sweeteners, bottled juices, and other food items keep pouring in. We welcome your questions, everyone, because that is how you receive clarification.

Some people don’t understand why certain items are not acceptable to eat during the cleansing process. For this reason we decided to put together the most common foods that people ask us about eating during their cleanse.

Corn

Yes, corn is a vegetable, but the kernel (where popcorn comes from) is a grain, well a whole grain to be completely accurate. To further complicate things, most grains like corn are technically fruits, because they come from the seeds or flowers of the plant. What does this mean for you, the cleanser? In short, you cannot consume corn during the cleanse. It requires cooking, contains genetically modified organisms, and it is not nearly as nutrient dense as other fruits and vegetables.

Ezekiel Bread

Sorry, folks, but the answer is no, no, and no again. While this is an excellent product to consume after you finish cleansing, it is not acceptable to consume during your cleanse. This bread is made with wheat, soybeans, lentils, spelt, millet, and barley, and it is a baked product.

Store Bought Salad Dressings

People get upset when we tell them that store bought salad dressings, even the vegan ones, are not cleanse approved. The reason for this is because bottled dressings often contain dairy products, added sugars, saturated fats, trans fats, and other preservatives. Instead of drowning your salads with unhealthy dressings, whip up your own. It’s so easy to make homemade dressings!

Honey

This one frustrates a lot of people. Honey is a common sweetener, especially for herbal, caffeine-free teas. While raw organic honey has its benefits, it is not a raw vegan product because it comes from bees. Often times, people purchase heavily-processed honey that contains added sugars. Instead of honey, you can use raw agave syrup, stevia, and grade A maple syrup as sweeteners during your cleanse.

Legumes

Yes, legumes are excellent sources of heart-healthy fats, fiber, and protein, but they are not cleanse-approved. Legumes are staples in various cuisines around the world, but they aren’t staples in the raw vegan diet. Eat them when you finish cleansing, though, because they help to fill you up with tons of high quality fiber, which prevents over-eating or excess snacking between meals.

Bottled Juice

There is one exception to this rule and it is that you can purchase a bottled juice from a juicery that cold-presses the juice in house. Other bottled juices contain sugar, preservatives, and they are fortified with nutrients because the processing strips away the flavor and nutritional value of the ingredients.

Balsamic Vinegar

The reason apple cider vinegar is acceptable to consume during the cleanse is because it doesn’t go through a heating process. Balsamic vinegar, on the other hand, involves boiling the sweet juice from pressed grapes into a concentrate. When you come off the cleanse, this is an excellent vinegar to use in homemade salad dressings.

Raw Fish And Sushi

Raw fish is not classified as vegetarian, vegan, and especially not raw vegan. Fish remains an animal product, no matter how you consume it; therefore, you cannot have raw fish while cleansing. And don’t get us started on sushi, because sushi involves cooked rice that is often sweetened with sugar and rice vinegar, two more foods that are not cleanse approved. Nori, however, is acceptable if it is not roasted.

Peanuts

Technically speaking, peanuts are legumes, which are not cleanse-approved. Additionally, peanuts tend to be hard on the digestive system, which is why we advise against consuming them during your cleanse. Opt for raw almonds, raw walnuts, raw pecans, raw pistachios, or raw cashews instead.

You most likely have at least one type of vinegar in your pantry or kitchen cabinets at this very moment. Vinegars, including apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, sherry vinegar, or distilled white vinegar, are staple ingredients in sauces, marinades, brines, or dressings. Aside from adding those delicious flavors, some vinegars are also helpful cleaning agents.

What Is The Best Vinegar To Clean With?

Different vinegars exist due to double fermentation. Wine vinegar comes from red or white wine grapes, while balsamic vinegar comes from a unique blend of grapes from southern Italy. Rice vinegar comes from rice, apple cider vinegar comes from apple cider, and so the cookie crumbles. White vinegar, however, is typically made with water and acetic acid, which is produced in a laboratory. Since white vinegar is the most acidic, it is a useful and powerful cleaning agent. It can be too strong for some surfaces, but you can always dilute it with a little water. Vinegar is great for cleaning windows, wood paneling, mirrors, and cabinets.

Distilled white vinegar is one of the most popular ingredients in DIY non-toxic cleaning products. It’s a great weapon to have in your cleaning arsenal, but it doesn’t necessarily leave the best scent behind. To avoid stinging the nostrils with that briny smell, it is best to scent the vinegar with other fruit peels or herbs, which actually add disinfectant and antibacterial properties. Check out the following DIY non-toxic cleaners to help you keep your home free of bacteria and chemicals.

Warning! Do not use these vinegar solutions to clean granite. It can cause permanent damage.

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 5-10 drops pine essential oil
  • Spray bottle

  • Store in a cool dry place. It is great to use in the bathroom to leave behind a refreshing scent.

  • Strain the vinegar through fine mesh strainer to remove the ingredients. Pour the now scented vinegar into a spray bottle and get ready to clean.
