It’s very easy to spend lots of money on skin care products. That is especially true when products say that they can turn back the hands of time and make your skin look 20 years younger. These products state that your skin will glow like never before! Unfortunately, people get lured in by these buzzwords, use the products, and don’t experience the advertised benefits.

What if we told you that you could save some money and make y4our own face serum that has anti-aging properties. When you make your own serum, you know exactly what goes into it. There are no problematic fragrances or added ingredients that detract from the primary ingredients. When you make your own serum, you have the freedom to customize ingredients based on your skin type. For example, if the carrier oil in this recipe doesn’t work for you, swap it out for one that does. The same can be said for the essential oils.

As a quick note, customizing your blend is very doable, but we recommend that you keep the same ratios for a two-ounce bottle. You can increase the amount of essential oils by a few drops or so, but be mindful with your use of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can cause skin irritation, so do a small patch test on your arm or something to ensure that you don’t have a negative reaction.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is primarily known for nourishing dry, dull skin, but it may benefit people with acne-prone skin as well. Dermatologists consider argan oil to be non-comedogenic, so it will not leave the skin feeling greasy. It is safe and beneficial for all skin types. The rich antioxidant content helps protect the skin from environmental damage. Argan oil contains vitamin E and polyphenols, which help soften the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Argan oil contains fatty acids, including oleic and linoleic acids, which exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Not only does that help soothe irritated skin, but it also works to reduce the appearance of blemishes. Another reason why argan oil is great for all skin types is because of the moisturizing properties. People with oily skin will find that it is lightweight, while those with dry skin will find that it makes skin feel soft, supple, and highly moisturized.

Rosehip Oil

Is rosehip oil the universal skin savior? Some say it is, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. Rosehip oil contains a lot of omega 3, 6, 7, and 9 fatty acids, all of which are necessary for skin repair and regeneration. Rosehip oil may help reduce the appearance of blemishes and scars and may work to brighten overall skin tone. Similar to argan oil, rosehip oil is beneficial for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

If dryness is your concern, rosehip oil may do the trick! Various creams may provide hydration, but rosehip oil goes above and beyond by adding moisture and sealing it in too. The fatty acids in rosehip oil help the skin retain water for longer, which helps to keep it soft and supple. Finally, rosehip oil has been described as a gentle alternative to retinol. Rosehip oil contains a small amount of vitamin A, which gives it the regenerative properties. Working with the other antioxidants, rosehip oil may help reduce sagging skin and fine lines.

DIY Face Serum

Ingredients:

  • 2-ounce amber glass bottle with dropper
  • 20 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops tea tree oil
  • 5 drops rose essential oil
  • Argan oil
  • Rosehip oil

Instructions:

  • Add the essential oils to the glass bottle and fill the bottle two-thirds of the way with argan oil.
  • Fill the rest of the bottle with rosehip oil, screw on the lid, and shake well to combine.
  • It is best to apply this serum at night before bed. Add a dime-size amount to your palms and gently apply all over your face, but be careful to avoid the eye area.

Have you looked in the mirror lately, only to see that your skin does not look as young as it once did? That is the curse of time, folks, but you do not have to feel ashamed. Aging is a natural part of life, but it can hurt your soul to see wrinkles or fine lines. Fortunately, there are nourishing ingredients that can help give your skin a healthy, youthful glow. And you don’t have to spend a fortune on these items, either!

Most people spin a lot of plates at once, so they don’t have time (or can’t afford) monthly facials and other self-care luxuries. What if you didn’t have to leave your house to nourish your skin with magical elixirs? Could you get behind that wheel? If so, then you need to familiarize yourself with various oils that help give your skin a nice dewy glow. The thought of putting oil on the skin might seem strange, but certain oils can actually help clean out pores, moisturize, and prevent the skin from producing excess oil.

What Does The Skin Crave After Age 40?

Your skin craves different things as you go through life. During adolescence and into your 20s, you do your best to control oil production and breakouts. Once you reach your 30s, collagen and elastin levels start to decline. That causes skin to lose its plumpness without proper hydration

When you hit your 40s, you may see wrinkles, fine lines, and even dark spots. Dryness around the eyes, neck, and lips is quite common, and your complexion craves nourishment to fight off environmental damage. After age 50, the skin becomes thinner and more prone to irritation. Your goals during this time are to minimize loss of firmness and prolong cell turnover. You want to prevent moisture loss at all costs.

Benefits Of Using Natural Oils

Oils help provide essential nutrients that protect the skin from dehydration. Some of the key benefits of using oils include:

  • Sealing in moisture to prevent dryness
  • Helping other products penetrate the skin more easily
  • Absorbing into the skin without leaving a greasy appearance
  • Increasing collagen production to increase firmness
  • Soothing inflammation and irritation
  • Delivering antioxidants to help reverse signs of aging

There is ongoing research focused on the ability of plant-based oils to benefit from the skin inside and out. They are not as harmful as many commercial skin care products, which can adversely affect the skin. When choosing plant-based oils for the skin, it is better to select cold-pressed varieties because they contain more vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants. Continue reading to learn about the top four anti-aging oils

Argan Oil

Many beauty experts refer to argan oil as “liquid gold.” Argan oil provides a large amount of vitamin E and fatty acids, and it absorbs quickly into the skin, which helps improve elasticity. A 2015 study found that argan oil improved skin firmness and elasticity after 60 consecutive days of application. Study authors noticed a visible difference in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Rosehip Seed Oil

Naturally rich in vitamins A, C, and other antioxidants, rosehip seed oil can do wonders for the skin. Researchers note that it exhibits anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and cell-regenerating properties, all of which help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars, dark spots, and wrinkles. One study found that rosehip seed oil was able to significantly fade surgical and burn scars in 180 patients. It also stopped premature aging and helped restore skin tone.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil mimics the skin’s natural sebum, which helps to balance dryness or oiliness. It may help to improve skin texture and tone because of the vitamin E and anti-inflammatory properties. In several dermatological tests, jojoba oil demonstrated an ability to increase the skin’s suppleness, the effects of which were effective as time passed. Continued use of jojoba oil helped to reduce superficial facial lines.

Castor Oil

One of the great things about castor oil is that it is able to deeply penetrate the skin with fatty acids, helping to smooth out fine lines. Studies show that it may help fade scars and dark spots, which researchers attribute to the large presence of antioxidants. The antibacterial properties in castor oil can help clear up acne and moisturize dry, flaky skin.

It’s safe to say that people are not afraid of putting oils on their skin anymore, and rightly so. That’s great, considering that beauty shelves used to be replete with oil-free ads. Applying oil to the skin is not a new practice; rather, many cultures have used oils to benefit the skin for centuries. Various oils exhibit skin-nourishing properties, but you do have to find the right oil for your skin type.

What Is A Carrier Oil?

A carrier oil is plant-based and tends to have a neutral or mild scent. You can use them on their own, or mix them with other oils, such as essential oils. The great thing about carrier oils is that they do not contain fillers or chemicals that you typically find in store bought skin care products. The main thing to keep in mind when buying these oils, though, is to make sure they are cold-pressed. That is the best method of extraction for preserving their health properties.

A carrier oil can help to naturally moisturize, protect, and improve the overall quality of the skin. Different carrier oils may benefit certain skin conditions, while others aim to rejuvenate and improve the skin’s appearance. Some can even help you balance oil production, offer anti-aging effects, and enhance the skin barrier. Below, you will find great carrier oils for different skin types.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil is naturally rich in both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which help it function as a natural humectant. A humectant is a substance that attracts water, so it helps to hydrate the skin, nails, and even hair. Hemp seed oil is non comedogenic, meaning it will not clog your pores, and that makes it suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone or oily skin. The antioxidants in hemp seed oil work to reduce the signs of aging, while the anti-inflammatory properties soothe irritated skin.

Sunflower Oil

Beauty experts note that sunflower oil is naturally balanced, meaning it is not too heavy or too light. Sunflower oil is widely available and works to promote skin hydration, protect the skin barrier, and reduce water loss. According to research, sunflower oil is naturally rich in vitamins A, C, and E, which is why it is a common ingredient in anti-aging skin care products. Several studies indicate that the anti-inflammatory properties in sunflower oil benefit people with eczema, or general redness or skin irritation. Use it as a post-shower body oil, an anti-aging mask, or after-sun nourishment.

Olive Oil

Rich in vitamins A and E, olive oil is a great carrier oil choice if you want to reduce premature signs of aging. Olive oil’s polyphenols, antioxidants, and immune enhancers make it great for skin protection. It works to fight the effects of sun damage and may even soothe inflammation. That said, do not use olive oil topically if you have a history of eczema or allergic contact dermatitis. It has been associated with worsening atopic dermatitis.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant, jojoba oil is one of the most common carrier oils in existence. It is beneficial for nearly all skin types and is rich in antioxidants, vitamin E, and nourishing fatty acids. Jojoba oil can help moisturize the skin without leaving a heavy residue behind. You can use jojoba oil if you have combination skin, dry skin, or oily skin because it mimics the skin’s natural oils. Jojoba oil is also a natural emollient, helping to maintain a protective skin barrier.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sure, almonds are a healthy, filling snack, but have you ever used sweet almond oil to nourish your skin? If you have very sensitive or dry skin, sweet almond oil will be a great moisturizing treat for your skin. It is replete with vitamin E, fatty acids, proteins, and various minerals, all of which encourage healthier skin. You can use sweet almond oil as a body oil, combining it with rose petals for an optimal floral scent and enhanced antioxidant activity.

Argan Oil

Great for the hair and skin, argan oil has been an effective moisturizer and cosmetic oil for centuries. Although evidence-based studies are lacking, argan oil has helped many people reduce premature signs of aging. Some research indicates that argan oil can restore some of the skin’s natural hydration and elasticity after menopause. Its anti-melanin action makes argan oil great for evening out skin tone. Argan oil also works to promote collagen production, replenish the skin with fatty acids, and treat acne.

Avocado Oil

As you know, avocados are naturally rich in fatty acids and beneficial nutrients. That makes avocado oil the perfect oil for moisturizing dry skin. Because it has vitamins A, D, and E, avocado oil helps support collagen production and fights signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles. Among other beneficial properties, avocado oil works to moisturize dry skin and fight free radicals, which contribute to early signs of aging.

From jojoba and argan to coconut and beyond, many oils reportedly improve the skin’s appearance. Which ones are the most effective for improving the overall health and integrity of your skin, though? Whether you want to moisturize, protect, cleanse, or reduce fine lines, face oils may be exactly what your skin has been missing.

First off, you must understand that each oil is unique and offers its own set of benefits. Additionally, one oil that works for one person may not work for another person. The unique biology of the skin may agree with oils in different ways. What is for certain is that many oils have been researched and reviewed by scientists and beauty experts. In this article, we’ll take a look at five different face oils and how they contribute to flawless-looking skin

Grapeseed Oil

Rich in high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E, grapeseed oil works to increase the skin’s moisture levels. It also makes the skin more supple and less prone to cracking, which reduces the risk of wrinkles or fine lines. According to beauty experts, grapeseed oil is one of the best natural oils for facial skin, primarily because it contains proanthocyanidin. This antioxidant helps to even out skin tone and enhances the skin’s ability to bounce back. One study found that oral consumption of grapeseed oil reduced the appearance of melasma, which is characterized by blue-gray or brown patches on the face.

Olive Oil

It shouldn’t be a surprise that olive oil, although a staple in many kitchens, made the list of beneficial face oils. Olive oil results from a process of pressing olive fruits to extract their oil. It contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, in addition to antioxidants and squalane. Research suggests that olive oil helps to fight free radical damage, slow skin aging, and hydrate dry skin. One animal study involving mice found that olive oil application to their skin yielded lower rates of tumors caused by ultraviolet rays. If you have sensitive skin, however, steer clear of olive oil because it may cause allergies

Marula Oil

If you are chasing the fountain of youth and yearn for beautifully radiant skin, marula oil offers impressive anti-aging benefits. Made from the marula trees in South Africa, marula oil can help smooth fine lines and may reduce the appearance of wrinkles. If you have dry facial skin, apply this oil to your face to leave it feeling soft and refreshed. Because marula oil has a high oleic acid content, it helps restore moisture in skin that is on the drier end of the moisture spectrum. The skin quickly absorbs this oil, so you can apply other products after without worrying about a greasy residue.

Rosehip Oil

Beauty experts consider rosehip oil as one of the top anti-aging oils on the market. It is gentle enough for sensitive skin and is a dry oil, meaning it is fast-absorbing so as not to leave your skin greasy. Instead, applying rosehip oil can help contribute to smoother, softer, and more supple skin. Research shows that rosehip oil encourages cell turnover, so it acts as a natural exfoliant. It is a rich source of vitamin E and essential acids, which work to keep your skin soft and healthy. Rosehip oil may also be effective for eliminating hyperpigmentation, which is usually difficult to get rid of.

Argan Oil

Harvested from the kernels of the argan tree in Morocco, argan oil is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamin E, making it an excellent face oil. It helps to protect the skin and absorbs quickly, so you can use it with other skin care products. One of the attracting factors to argan oil is that it is great for all skin types, from very dry to very oily. It may help get rid of acne because it helps reduce inflammation and stays out of your pores. Lastly, argan oil’s antioxidants may help repair the skin and fight the signs of aging.

The same noticeable, embarrassing flakes found in the hair and on your shoulders are also found in your beard. Typically accompanied by dry and itchy skin, beard dandruff, or beardruff, is an annoyance more than anything. Since you can’t just brush it out, you need a quality shampoo that gets rid of beard dandruff. Remember, a standard anti-dandruff shampoo is not suitable for the face because it is designed for the scalp.

What Causes Beard Dandruff?

In a nutshell, beard dandruff is caused by dry skin. It is typically more prevalent in longer beards because the skin underneath can become itchy and flaky. Men with shorter beards can also experience beardruff, and skin that is red becomes more noticeable under shorter-length hair.

Using harsh shampoos, conditioners, or balms that are not designed for the face is usually the cause of beardruff. The facial skin is quite sensitive, so you have to use the appropriate products for the beard. Additionally, dandruff is caused by yeast overgrowth and although it is more common on the scalp, it also exists on the beard (or cheeks/chin).

The aim of this article isn’t to fully cover the root cause of beard dandruff, though. Having beard dandruff is not a common issue, which is why you don’t see flakes on every man’s beard. Roughly 40% of men with beards experience beard dandruff, which is high, but it’s as common as other things.

How To Get Rid Of Beard Dandruff

Forget the 2in1 shampoo and conditioner combo that doubles as a beard shampoo, guys. Shampoo for hair is vastly different from beard shampoo, and for good reason. The scalp and face are two different animals, and each one requires specific products. They differ in the way that they reproduce oils, which are stripped from the skin by hair shampoo. The skin on the face produces the same amount of oil, no matter how often you wash it.

That’s why a proper beard shampoo that adds wholesome oils to the beard is your best bet. Not only does this oil up the beard properly, but it also helps reduce the risk of dried out skin and dandruff. Even though a beard shampoo is beneficial, you don’t want to over-wash your beard. You should only wash your beard two to three times per week to prevent it from drying out.

Lastly, keep your beard hydrated, especially if it is longer. Follow up your shampoo with a beard conditioner and apply beard oil daily. If you follow these steps, then you can help prevent beard ruff.

DIY Dandruff Shampoo For Beards

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tablespoon argan oil
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 1 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil
  • 1/8 cup castile soap
  • 1/8 cup filtered water
  • 4 drops tea tree oil
  • 4 drops rosemary essential oil

Instructions:

  • Add the argan oil, jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil, and castile soap to a four-ounce bottle and stir to combine.
  • Add the water and essential oils, screw on the top, and shake well to combine the ingredients.
  • Before each use, make sure to shake it up because the oils will likely separate. To use, add a dime-size amount to your beard and work it into the skin. Make sure to work it into the strands of your beard as well. Rinse with warm water and dry.

Have you noticed that healthier beauty products are more popular than ever before? The beauty industry, while it still contains a great many products with harmful ingredients, is starting to use a lot more natural ingredients. This is because people have adopted healthier lifestyles and are more selective with their skin and hair care choices.

What Are Carrier Oils?

Carrier oils are plant-based oils derived from nuts, seeds, or kernels. They have little to no scent and they are generally used to dilute essential oils. The reason that you have to dilute essential oils in carrier oils is to make them safe for topical application. Applying essential oils directly to the skin can result in negative reactions like rash or inflammation. Carrier oils, as their name suggests, carry essential oils and other ingredients into the skin. That said, you can use them on their own, and some of them have beneficial properties for your skin and hair.

Whether you’re looking to nourish dry hair or boost hair growth, the following carrier oils can help you achieve those goals. You may already have some of these oils in your kitchen! Just keep in mind that it’s always best to use the highest quality oils when applying them to your hair, scalp, or body.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil is a thin carrier oil that’s slippery and easily absorbed by your hair or skin. It contains lots of omega chain fatty acids and vitamin E that help hydrate your hair by penetrating the cortex, which is the central main bulk of the hair. Because it is slick, it can cover the scalp in a thin blanket of sustenance, feeding your scalp to encourage cell production in hair follicles. Grapeseed oil is excellent if you suffer from regular flare ups of eczema or psoriasis on the scalp. Combine this oil with tea tree oil to help enhance the anti-inflammatory properties.

Argan Oil

It’s almost impossible to peruse the hair care aisle at a store without seeing argan oil on the ingredient lists for at least 40 different products. Argan oil exhibits powerful moisturizing properties because of the rich fatty acid content. The hair easily absorbs argan oil, which nourishes the cortex and fills in dry cracks with moisture. In fact, using a light layer of argan oil before heat styling can prevent cuticle damage that can result in dry or brittle hair. Argan oil can also strengthen the skin barrier and promote cell turnover, increasing the scalp’s ability to produce healthier hair cells.

Jojoba Oil

If you have a dry scalp, you may not be producing enough sebum. The best oil that mimics sebum is jojoba oil, but don’t apply a crazy amount or else your hair will be greasy. On a chemical level, jojoba oil is closer to wax than oil. This unique composition makes it one of the best carrier oils for the hair and scalp. Rich in vitamins B & E, zinc, copper, and healthy fats, jojoba oil nourishes your hair and promotes hydration. Jojoba oil acts similarly to conditioner, feeding your hair with beneficial nutrients and hydration, which may promote hair growth

Safflower Oil

Working to deeply penetrate the scalp, safflower oil delivers beneficial nutrients into the hair follicle, encouraging thickness and growth. Cold-pressed for safflower seeds, safflower oil is a lightweight, odorless oil with a rich nutritional profile. Safflower oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn’t clog your pores, and that’s why it is a common ingredient in beauty products. The linoleic content in safflower oil may help reduce dry or flaky skin, while the vitamin E works to prevent damage to delicate hair and scalps.

Tamanu Oil

Tamanu oil is a solid at room temperature, so you have to warm it up before you use it. Cultivated from the tamanu tree, native to East Africa, tamanu oil is a carrier oil that supports the body’s natural immune responses to skin conditions. It is naturally rich in anti-inflammatory properties that help encourage scar tissue formation. The skin can easily absorb tamanu oil, which is great news for your scalp. In fact, if you are trying to regrow hair and need an extra boost, try adding tamanu oil to your hair care routine.

Sweet Almond Oil

An excellent carrier oil for the hair and scalp, sweet almond oil is naturally rich in vitamins A, B, D, and E, all of which benefit hair growth. It also contains proteins and minerals like potassium, zinc, and magnesium. Magnesium actually promotes protein synthesis and regulates hair growth phases. Because it is lightweight and offers a soothing scent, sweet almond oil is an excellent choice for relaxing head massages.

Castor Oil

Castor oil works to nourish and moisturize the skin, helping to encourage hair growth. If you warm up castor oil  and leave it on the scalp post application, it can penetrate different layers of the skin and hair. Warm castor oil can seep into the hair’s cortex and swell it with triglycerides to form a seal around the cuticle. That traps in nourishment and helps make your hair softer and shinier. Castor oil also contains ricinoleic acid, which feeds dormant hair follicles by enhancing blood flow and promoting hair cell production.

Got a case of frizz or fly-aways that you just can’t seem to tame? Well, you are not alone, and many people struggle to tame frizz for years. After trying different hair products that don’t work, it’s easy to give up on your search and let your hair do whatever it will do. Don’t give up your search just yet, though, because the serum in this article may be the product that solves your hair problems.

In this serum, it’s all about the oils. Most people, especially those with frizzy hair, find that oils are greatly beneficial in their quest to smoother, healthier hair. All of the oils in this serum work to nourish the hair and scalp. Continue reading to learn more about them.

Olive Oil

It’s not surprising that people have used olive oil in hair care for thousands of years. Olive oil helps to add shine, body, softness, and resilience to your hair. The primary elements, squalene, palmitic acid, and oleic acid, are all emollients that exhibit softening qualities. Some research shows that olive oil can have a major moisturizing effect on your hair. Olive oil tends to be most beneficial for people with dry, thick hair, because it works to keep it moist and strong. It does tend to weigh down thinner hair, so keep this in mind.

Argan Oil

Some people refer to argan oil as “liquid gold” because of how it benefits the skin and hair. Argan oil is replete with fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E, all of which have been scientifically proven to nourish the hair and scalp. Studies show that the fatty acids in argan oil help to lubricate the hair shaft, which helps you maintain moisture. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in argan oil also nourish the scalp and help protect against hair loss. Argan oil is great for people who experience styling and coloring damage, because the medium-chain fatty acids help prevent damage that stems from styling and washing.

Jojoba Oil

There are so many hair care products that contain jojoba oil, so we’d be surprised if you’d never heard of this oil. Jojoba oil isn’t actually an oil; rather, it is a wax ester, but most people just call it an oil. It has a moisturizing effect on the skin and hair, and its light and impermeable nature means that it sits on the surface of the hair shaft. As a result, it is able to seal moisture into the hair and scalp while they are still damp. Other oils penetrate the hair shaft, but jojoba sits on the outer surface, protecting it from dryness, frizz, and breakage.

Lavender Essential Oil

A few studies and anecdotal reports say that lavender essential oil may help accelerate hair growth. Lavender oil contains properties that may generate the growth of cells and reduce stress, which may generate faster hair growth. The antimicrobial and antibacterial properties in lavender essential oil may also help improve the health of your scalp.

Peppermint Essential Oil

When you use a hair care product that contains peppermint essential oil, you may notice a tingling feeling on the scalp. This feel actually increases circulation to the scalp, which helps promote hair growth during the anagen (growing) phase. An animal study found that peppermint essential oil was able to increase the number of follicles, folic depth, and overall hair growth when used on mice.

DIY Hair Serum For Frizzy Hair

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon organic jojoba oil
  • 1 tablespoon organic argan oil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 16 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil

Instructions:

  • Pour all of the ingredients into a glass bottle or jar.
  • Screw on the top and shake gently to combine.

Are you familiar with store bought moisturizers that promise long-lasting hydration? They don’t typically deliver the moisture you seek, which is why it’s best to say goodbye to them and embrace natural oils. It may sound strange to put more oil on your skin, especially your face. There are certain oils, however, that actually help reduce acne, unclog pores, and contribute to more radiant skin.

What Are Carrier Oils?

A carrier oil is typically a plant-based oil that comes from a seed, nut, or plant. Olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, and sweet almond oil are common carrier oils. These oils contain beneficial fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that work to nourish the skin. The best part about carrier oils is that they do not contain added fillers. This means that your skin can easily absorb them, so that they can protect the natural lipid barrier. In doing so, carrier oils help your skin retain moisture. Regularly applying carrier oils to the skin can help protect it from the elements.

Please note that finding the right carrier oil for you will depend on your skin type. Some people need more assistance with balancing oil production, while others need help improving skin texture. Experiment with the following carrier oils to contribute to healthier looking skin.

Argan Oil

Argan oil comes from the nut of the argan tree, which is native to Morocco. Health experts praise argan oil for the high vitamin E content, in addition to the tocopherols and saponins. Tocopherols are powerful antioxidants and saponins are agents that contribute to softer skin. Argan oil is also an excellent anti-aging carrier oil, specifically because it helps restore the skin’s hydro-lipid layer. In doing so, it’s possible to experience a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

Jojoba Oil

There is no shortage of good things to say about jojoba oil. It has been used to help remedy everything from sunburns to acne to psoriasis. Jojoba oil is an excellent carrier oil because it actually tricks the skin into thinking that it doesn’t need to produce more oil. This is beneficial if your skin overproduces or underproduces oil. By balancing your sebum production, you can help eliminate acne and enhance natural hydration. Jojoba oil is a natural emollient, meaning it helps to provide long-lasting moisture.

Olive Oil

This classic culinary oil is more than just a base for a tasty salad dressing. Olive oil contains a lot of oleic acid, which is a beneficial monounsaturated fatty acid that hydrates dry skin. Because olive oil is heavier than most oils, it can take time to dry on the skin. In most cases, olive oil doesn’t trigger allergic reactions, but make sure to purchase extra virgin olive oil to be safe. Many studies show that olive oil exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound healing properties after topical application. Preliminary research also points to the fact that olive oil offers anti-aging benefits.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a heavy hitter in the natural skin care world. It’s full of beneficial vitamin E and has natural moisturizing properties. The high fatty acid content is why coconut oil can help your skin lock in moisture. Some studies show that coconut oil helps to protect the skin from damaging UV rays, but it may not replace other natural sunscreens. Additionally, coconut oil has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, which offer skin protection during dryer, colder months. It’s not exclusive to colder weather, though, because you can use it year round.

Rose Hip Seed Oil

Rose hip seed oil comes from the seeds of wild rose bushes. It’s one of the most powerful skin-nourishing oils that you’ll ever come across. Naturally rich in vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene, rose hip seed oil works to fight free radical damage on the skin. It also helps to enhance collagen production and hydrate the skin. This can aid with wrinkle and fine line reduction. A 2018 study found that the antioxidants and fatty acids in rose hip seed oil also protected against inflammation. This means that it may be beneficial for people with inflammatory skin conditions like acne, or eczema.

Are you ready to become obsessed with an incredible moisturizer that helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines? The answer is “yes,” in case you were not aware. It’s not like a bunch of people are asking for wrinkles and age spots. Everyone wants to look younger, but you have to use ingredients that have anti-aging properties to achieve this goal.

The anti-aging moisturizer in this article has four simple ingredients; that’s all you need. You don’t need a slew of products that you dumped your life savings into. It also helps if you focus on healthier foods because your diet plays a large role in the health of your skin. If you eat the right foods and use this moisturizer, your skin will be looking younger in no time. The ingredients in the moisturizer explain why it really works.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is extracted from the lavender plant. It is a common essential oil in aromatherapy that works to promote relaxation and better sleep. Recent preliminary studies found that the antioxidants in lavender essential oil help combat oxidative stress in the body, which may reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It also helps to reduce the appearance of scars by encouraging healthy tissue growth.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is beneficial for both the hair and skin. It’s rich in both linoleic and oleic acid, which are essential fatty acids that are beneficial for acne-prone skin. Argan oil is great for moisturizing the skin because it is easily absorbed, which is great if you live in dryer climates. The vitamin A and E work to moisturize the skin, while also promoting healthy skin tissue development. This has been known to reduce the appearance of wrinkles

Frankincense Essential Oil

Rich in powerful antioxidants, frankincense essential oil has been know to fight free radicals in the body. These highly reactive molecules seek out electrons to pair with in the body. If too many pair with electrons, it can lead to DNA damage, which accelerates the signs of aging. The antioxidants in frankincense essential oil help put a stop to this damage to improve overall skin quality.

Shea Butter

The micronutrients, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants in shea butter are excellent for keeping the skin moisturized. When it comes to anti-aging properties, researchers believe that shea butter’s antioxidants play a large role. Other studies confirmed that shea butter also helps to reduce roughness, sagging, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles

DIY Moisturizer With Anti-Aging Benefits

  • 1/4 cup shea butter

Essential oils are regularly used improperly by people who have little to no experience with them. Due to their potency, it is paramount to combine essential oils with carrier oils for topical application. Failure to do so can result in irritation or adverse reactions to the essential oils. Since more people are transitioning to use natural beauty products or DIY beauty products, it is beneficial to know what carrier oils are and how to use them with essential oils.

What Is A Carrier Oil?

Carrier oils, also known as base oils, are typically mixed with essential oils in a dilution of 0.5 to 5% for the average adult. A carrier oil’s job is to dilute the essential oils and assist with carrying them into the skin, hence the name. Carrier oils are commonly plant-based and extracted from nuts or seeds to moisturize the skin. In fact, your skin yearns for healthy carrier oils because they do not contain fillers or chemicals, making it easier for your skin to absorb them to protect the lipid layer.

Choosing The Best Carrier Oil

The carrier oil you decide on will depend on your skin type, where you will be applying the oil, and whether or not you have allergies. In order to find the right carrier oil, you will have to patch test different oils to see how your skin reacts. If you want to use carrier oils on your face, it is wise to use a thinner oil like sunflower seed oil or grapeseed oil, especially if your skin is prone to acne. Using carrier oils on your hair or scalp will depend on dryness, dull, or damaged hair; argan oil or coconut oil may be beneficial in these situations. Carrier oils should also be kept in cool, dry places to keep them fresh. Consider the following carrier oils when you decide to use them on your skin.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is naturally rich in vitamin E and saponins, which help promote more youthful looking skin. Pressed from the nuts of argan trees, which are only found in Morocco, argan oil has been known to restore the skin’s hydro-lipid layer, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. People like argan oil because it doesn’t leave an oily residue on the skin.

Jojoba Oil

Commonly used in massage or DIY beauty products, jojoba oil contains natural anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. An interesting fact about jojoba oil is that while it looks and feels like an oil, it is actually liquid wax ester that is made from expeller-pressed jojoba seeds. Since jojoba oil is similar to sebum on the human skin, it is easily absorbed and lightweight, helping to efficiently carry ingredients into the skin.

Coconut Oil

This is probably the most famous carrier oil out there. Historically, people in the tropics have used coconut oil as a natural moisturizer, but it has recently been researched for its antimicrobial properties and lauric acid content, which is the primary fatty acid in coconut oil. It can be applied to the skin, hair, and lips, protecting the skin with a thin oily layer.

Avocado Oil

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D, and E, avocado oil is a natural moisturizer that is beneficial for soothing inflamed skin. Avocado oil contains sterolins, which are anti-inflammatory, and these have been effective at reducing sun damage, age spots, and inflammatory conditions like eczema and blemishes.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

You should already have this in your kitchen, so go get some if you don’t. The oleic acid, which is a monounsaturated fatty acid, has moisturizing properties and is great for people with drier skin. Because olive oil is a bit heavier than other carrier oils, it has a longer drying period. Since about two-thirds of olive oils that are tested in the United States are adulterated, it is integral to use a trusted olive oil source. Always strive to purchase cold-pressed, organic extra virgin olive oil.
