Baking soda is one of those household items that shouldn’t be reserved for one thing. It has many amazing uses and is much more than a disinfectant or skin cleanser. We aren’t here to preach about how many ways you can use baking soda (there are over 50, in case you were wondering); rather, we are here to tell you how drinking water with baking soda can improve your health.

While you may use baking soda for baking pastries, it can help you ward off many health ailments. Before we continue, it’s important to mention that you should only mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda in an 8oz cup of water. Don’t drink more than two of these in one day. When you do drink this concoction, it is important to only drink it on an empty stomach. Do that and you should experience some of the following benefits.

Preventing Kidney Stones

Kidney stones, while uncomfortable, are more and more common these days, affecting about 1 in 11 Americans. They can be caused by a genetic disorder or an iron imbalance. Most people who have kidney stones are unaware, until they have to pass them. Since baking soda has an alkalizing effect on the body, it greatly lowers your risk of developing kidney stones.

Prevents Urinary Infections

If drinking this solution helps your kidneys, it goes without saying that will help protect your bladder. It is very easy for bacteria to grow in the bladder, often resulting in UTIs. Because baking soda has antiseptic properties, it can clean the urinary tract and can help reduce acidity in urine.

Alkalizing the Body

Baking soda can help alkalize the body. It also helps neutralize the pH level in the body, which makes it an inhospitable environment for diseases. Most people with acidic bodies are at a higher risk of developing cancer. Osteoporosis and arthritis are common conditions associated with high acidity levels. Drink a glass of baking soda and water on an empty stomach to change your life.

A Natural Antacid

Acid reflux affects a large number of people. Drinking water with baking soda can actually neutralize stomach acid and help remedy this problem. Additionally, baking soda helps to remove gas from the stomach, in turn preventing heartburn and bloating.

There are many reasons and factors for stomach problems which I will elucidate herein, but before we get to the causes and effect and the solutions or remedies for stomach problems, let us first get a basic understanding of what the stomach is and what it does.

One should not be so surprised that stomach problems are rampant in people today, especially in the Western world. No other nation of people has the high incidence of stomach problems like Americans.

When you consider the Standard American Diet, hectic work schedules, fast-paced lifestyles, and level of negative emotions (i.e. anger, hatred, frustration, worry, bitterness, etc.) we carry and execute every single day of our lives, it’s plain to see why stomach problems are rampant.

Causes

Clearly diet, a poor diet, plays a pivotal role in stomach problems and disorders. Take meat (dead, slaughtered animal flesh) for example. Meat is too rough and tough on the stomach. It’s hard for the acids in the stomach to digest meat. And while humans do have protease, an enzyme that breaks down protein, this protease was meant to break down natural protein which would be plant-based sources of protein, not dead slaughtered animal flesh that you call meat under its many umbrella terms, i.e. chicken, beef, lamb, pork, etc., that many people erroneously believe is a source of protein. Cooked animal flesh is NOT protein. You cannot cook a dead animal and get protein. When the animal is first killed and its flesh is raw, you have protein; but when you cut it up into different body part pieces and cook (alter) it, you don’t have protein anymore. What you have is a serious poison to the body that greatly taxes the stomach and intestines.

Meat sits in the stomach and colon for days and just rots and putrefies allowing worms and parasites to enter into the body.

Meat breaks down into uric acid and this is not good for the stomach, which is already acidic by nature. Eating meat adds more acid to the stomach.

And then you eat some liquid meat called dairy. Milk is another protein by definition that is processed and altered. Dairy products (milk, sour cream, ice cream, butter, and yogurt) convert into lactic acid inside the body. This occurs in the stomach. But remember, the stomach is already acidic.

Acid reflux is an attempt to remove the excess acid by making the acid go back up the stomach. Acid reflux burns (inflammation) because that’s what acid naturally does.

Dyspepsia is an intestinal disorder and plays a role in the cause of peptic ulcers, gallbladder disease and chronic appendicitis.

Stomach bloat

A bloated stomach is a condition most females can identify with, whether they’re pregnant or on their menstrual cycle. Men too can identify with bloated sensations or feelings, especially if they love ice cream. Dairy products cause a severe bloated sensation and flatulence.

Effervescent beverages like soda pop outright kill the stomach and colon. Soda pop is just too acidic. Wine, beer, alcohol and other spirits (evil spirits in bottles) also kill the stomach and colon.

Eating too fast

When we chew food too fast, we also cause stomach problems. Eating on the run and trying to eat within a 30-60 minute lunch break wreaks havoc on the stomach and colon. Instead of chewing our food 30-60 times, we only chew our food 5-10 times before we swallow.

Americans are binge eaters, especially females, due to lack of love on the deepest levels of existence. Lack of natural love is made up or substituted with food.

Many people (especially females) are in unhealthy relationships that are very stressful (and that they can’t stomach), which in turn causes stomach problems.

Stress is very damaging. You should always avoid stress. Stress is a sign that something is not right in your life. Stress is not natural. Stress is one of the many negative emotions that destroy mental, spiritual and emotional joy and happiness.

Stress, anger, hatred, worry, envy, jealousy, and bitterness are no good for the stomach. These negative emotions (energies) shut down the pleasure principle (Second chakra).

The Dangers of Commercial Antacids

Over-the-counter antacids have calcium, but it’s inorganic, meaning it can’t be digested and absorbed into the body.

According to the Handbook of Over-The-Counter Drugs (1992) by GW Manning, Every year Americans spend millions of dollars on medical products to relieve acid indigestion and heartburn from periodic bouts of overeating and drinking.

Manning goes on to state the following: It seems you can hardly watch television or pick up a magazine without seeing an ad of some kind for an antacid product that claims to do wonders for indigestion. With lifestyles the way they are, eating on the run is a part of everyday living, and indigestion is the unwelcome fringe benefit. Medical statistics show that over twenty million Americans suffer daily from heartburn and these are the heaviest antacid users. Another one third of the population experiences occasional symptoms.

Manning also offers the following statement, antacid sales continue to show a healthy increase in sales, about five percent a year. That amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars annually, making antacids the fourth largest OTC (over-the-counter) category. Ibid, pg. 295

Most brands contain not only harmful inorganic calcium, but also contain inorganic magnesium, aluminum (culprit in Alzheimer’s disease); and aspirin (which breaks down into acetic acid which literally burns a hole through the intestinal walls and also causes ulcers).

Antacids contain magnesium and aspirin because of the headaches that are generally caused by or associated with acid indigestion or heartburn.

The Headache-Stomach Problem Connection

Many headaches are in fact bilious headaches and are thus caused by extreme acidosis. Bilious headaches result when there’s too much acid in the digestive system and the gallbladder releases the green, bitter gall substance, which is very alkaline. This is the body’s natural attempt to counteract the acid in the digestive tract. Bile is the body’s natural antacid. When you pass or defecate out dark green colored stools, this is a sign that you ate something very acidic in the past that taxed your system to the point that excess bile had to be released in an attempt to restore harmony in the digestive tract.

Many headaches are caused by stomach and intestinal (colon) problems, which is why you really have to keep your colon clean and conditioned.

Healing for Stomach Problems

Any good natural laxative and herbal bitter will help heal stomach problems. Good herbs for the stomach (and liver) are usually orange and yellow in color, i.e. Cascara Sagrada, Goldenseal, Bayberry, Tumeric, Ginger, etc.

Laxative herbs such as Cascara, Senna, Rhubarb, Aloe Vera resin, and Buckthorn will greatly help heal the stomach and intestines. Laxative herbs induce evacuation of the bowels.

Carminatives are excellent for stomach problems. Carminatives are herbs that normalize digestive system peristalsis to relieve flatulence (gas) and include Anise Seed, Cayenne Pepper, Licorice, Basil, Cardamom Seed, Ginger Root, Cinnamon and Caraway. Carminatives are great as after dinner teas.

To eradicate stomach spasms, take antispasmodic herbs. Antispasmodic herbs are muscle relaxant herbs that relieve cramping and spasms and include Cramp Bark, Black Haw, Lady’s Slipper (very expensive due to being rare); Wild Yam, Chamomile and Valerian Root.

Alkalizing the body via diet (consumption of raw, green foods) greatly helps in eradicating stomach problems, especially where there is excess acid.

The crystal Carnelian is a great stomach stone. Carnelian’s beautiful bright to dark orange color resonates with the stomach energy. The color of the Second chakra is orange. Our stomach emits an orange color and also resonates with the D tone. The color orange and the D-tone (vibration) opens the Second chakra, which in turn helps to balance our emotions predicated at this energy site. An elixir made of Carnelian is great to take for all stomach complaints and disorders. Carnelian fosters strength, hence intestinal fortitude.

Essential oils of Ginger, Peppermint and/or Wintergreen are excellent for stomach disorders. They work like a charm and bring near instant results. Simply rub a carrier oil (i.e. Olive, Castor, Almond, or Grape Seed oil) into your stomach and massage 1-3 drops of one of the essential oils supra into your stomach area. Do the same thing with the bottom or soles of your feet, this time using 3-5 drops on your soles.

Acid Reflux: Heartburn https://www.dherbs.com/articles/wellness-prevention/acid-reflux-heartburn/ Thu, 13 Jun 2013 16:25:43 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/uncategorized/acid-reflux-heartburn/ Acid Reflux Heartburn

Antacids are toxic and harmful to the body. Acid reflux is one of the easiest things to heal from when you know what causes it. It is so caustic it can actually burn through or eat through the tissues of the GI tract. On a metaphysical level, it may also denote anger in your heart. Anger has red energy and red is the color of fire or inflammation.

Acid Reflux Heartburn

Acid reflux, also known as heartburn and esophageal reflux, is medically defined as “A painful burning sensation in the esophagus just below the sternum”. Heartburn is usually caused by the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus but may be caused by gastric hyperacidity or peptic ulcer.

Under normal conditions, the sphincter muscle of the esophagus prevents acid-containing stomach contents from being regurgitated back into the esophagus but if the muscle becomes lazy or perhaps relaxed, then acid reflux or heartburn can occur.

Acid Reflux Causes and Risk Factors

Acid reflux is one of the easiest things to heal from when you know what causes it. It is caused by consuming excessive amounts of acid-forming products (food and drink) which disturbs the natural acidity levels of the GI tract.

Consuming too much acid-forming food or beverages such as meat, dairy products, refined grains, refined starches, and other processed and refined food-stuffs including acidic and effervescent beverages (i.e. soda pop, beer, wine, milk, processed orange juice, coffee, hot cocoa, etc.) throws off the acidity levels of the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract.

Acid Reflux Symptoms

When this acidic content attempts to exit via the mouth, a burning sensation is felt (in the lower heart area which is why acid reflux is also called heartburn). It is so caustic it can actually burn through or eat through the tissues of the GI tract causing ulcers, especially peptic ulcers.

If you also experiencing a nasty, bitter, or acerbic taste in your mouth during your bout with acid reflux, you are simply tasting the acidic contents of the esophagus.

Healing Acid Reflux (Heartburn) Naturally

Acid reflux is nothing but a condition of hyperacidity due to poor diet. People are harming themselves by way of what they consume.

Medical authorities state that antacids help acid reflux and heartburn is because antacids are calcium-based and calcium is the most alkaline mineral in the body and it naturally counteracts and neutralizes acidity. That’s why they are called antacids, meaning ‘anti acid.’

Antacids can offer symptomatic relief, but many commercial antacids can cause as much harm as good when used extensively over time.

Some lifestyle behaviors, such as smoking or being stressed out, can also increase body acidity.

To relieve acid reflux naturally, change your diet, stop smoking and develop stress relief strategies to help manage your body’s chemistry in a healthy way.

Dietary Intervention

Cut back on or outright cut out acidic foods and beverages (like those listed above). With so many healthy food options, there’s no excuse to not do better or improve pertaining to diet.

Acidic foods are:

  • Meat
  • Dairy
  • Refined grains
  • Refined starches
  • Beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages
  • Hot chocolate or cocoa
  • Energy drinks

Eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, especially mango and papaya. However, do not eat a lot of citrus fruit due to the acidity they contain (even though it’s a healthy acidity). Good acid mixed with bad acid creates confusion in the body.

Drink vegetable juice daily. Vegetable juice is alkaline and will neutralize the acidity level of your GI (gastro-intestinal) tract. You don’t need antacids! Vegetable juice will work better than OTC (over-the-counter) antacids, which pollute the bloodstream.

Add 1-2 ounces of Aloe Vera juice to your drinking water. Liquid chlorophyll (1 tablespoon or 1 ounce) is also good to add to your drinking water.

Start drinking alkaline water. It’s best to simply purchase an alkaline water machine.

Stop consuming acidic products and start consuming more ALKALINE foods like raw fruits and vegetables.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis causes 1.5 million fractures in general, over 300,000 hip fractures, over 700,000 vertebral fractures, and over 250,000 wrist fractures each year in the United States. Osteoporosis accounts for 70% of all fractures of people over 45 years of age in the U.S.

Causes and Risk Factors

Osteoporosis is considered a degenerative disease that causes bones to become weak or brittle. It’s a natural occurrence with aging, when bone loss outpaces bone renewal.

There are two types of risk factors associated with osteoporosis: changeable and unchangeable.

Unchangeable risk factors are:

  • Gender-women are at higher risk of developing osteoporosis than men
  • Age-the older you get, the greater the risk
  • Ethnicity-Caucasians tend to experience osteoporosis more frequently
  • Family history
  • Body frame-petite people tend to experience osteoporosis more often than people with medium or large frames
  • Early menopause-women who go through early menopause are at higher risk

Changeable risk factors are:

  • Hormone levels-imbalanced hormones or other glandular problems can contribute to the development of osteoporosis
  • Thyroid problems-too much thyroid hormone can accelerate bone loss
  • Dietary imbalance such as too little calcium in the diet, eating disorders or weight-loss surgery
  • Steroids or other medications that leech calcium from the bones
  • Lifestyle-people who sit too much are at higher risk
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Tobacco use

Symptoms

Common symptoms of osteoporosis are:

  • Back pain
  • Frequent bone fractures
  • Bone fractures that happen too easily
  • Collapsed vertebrae
  • Loss of height
  • Stooped posture

Healing Options

Consume mostly organic, raw, live foods – fruits and vegetables, but especially green leafy cruciferous vegetables. Green foods (broccoli, parsley, spinach, alfalfa, dandelion, etc.) are usually high in organic calcium and usually contain more Vitamin C than some citrus fruits.

Drink plenty of vegetable juice daily as vegetable juice is alkalizing and many vegetables contain moderate to high amounts of calcium and thus are great for reversing bone density conditions such as osteoporosis.

Eliminate consumption of commercial brands of orange juice, i.e. Minute Maid, Sunkist, Florida Natural, etc. Fresh squeezed (which may cost more) is best. An orange is acidic in nature, but it is alkaline! Oranges, limes, and lemons are acidic in nature, but are not acid forming.

Eliminate consumption of antacids. Use herbs and/or herbal products to neutralize acid without any adverse side effects. Remember that your green foods (including herbs) are very alkalizing, too.

Great calcium-providing herbs include Comfrey root and leaves, Moringa (whole plant), Oat straw, Horsetail, Alfalfa and Red Raspberry Leaf to name a few.

When you bathe or soak, add 1-2 boxes (26-52 ounces) of sea salt to the bath water as sea salt makes bath water alkaline and in turn this helps the overall health and well being of the bones. It also helps to dissolve hardened lactic acid, which is responsible for stiffness in the body.

Dietary Intervention

The human body requires organic nutrition. The body can only assimilate and absorb that which is organic. That’s why plants are the best source of nutrition for human beings, including calcium. It’s a mistake to rely only on processed foods and dairy products as sources of nutritional calcium.

Again, the right kind of calcium is CALCIUM PHOSPHATE (derived from plant sources) and not calcium carbonate, calcium lactate, calcium citrate, or calcium gluconate.

Consuming the right kind of nutrients (i.e. nutrients that the body can absorb and assimilate, not just digest) is very important. You must make sure you’re getting organic nutrients.
