Infomation about Menstrual Problems

Menstrual Problems

Menstruation, which is when blood and tissue are discharged from the uterus' lining, is a normal part of a woman's menstrual cycle.  Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) usually induces common symptoms like fatigue or mild cramping, but menstrual cycles may bring about more serious Menstrual Problems.  Menstrual Problems such as heavy or very light flow, or the complete absense of a cycle, may mean that something more serious is causing the problems.

No woman's menstrual cycle is alike, so what may be normal for one woman might not be regular for another woman. Symptoms of Menstrual Problems may include the following:

  • Absent menstrual cycle
  • Menstruation that is too heavy or too light
  • Painful periods
  • Menstruation that lasts longer than normal
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Severe cramping

Menstrual Problems can be caused by a variety conditions, hormonal imbalances, trauma, or even medications.  A menstrual cycle starts on the first day of a woman's period and the entire cycle can range anywhere from 21-35 days.  The brain, uterus, pituitary gland, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the vagina all work together for a proper menstrual cycle.  If there is a miscommunication or problem with any of those elements of the cycle, Menstrual Problems can occur.  Common causes are listed below.

  • Certain medications (such as antiepileptics or antipsychotics)
  • Adolescence
  • Uncontrolled Diabetes
  • Perimenopause

Dherbs Approach...adjusting your diet is always key!

  • It is important to maintain good hygiene (bathing or showering on a daily basis) during menstruation.  Avoid douching or using feminine deodorants because they can have chemicals that can irritate the vaginal area or increase the risk of developing an infection.
  • If Menstrual Problems include severe cramping or intense back pain, it can be soothing to put a heating pad or warm towel on the lower abdomen or lower back.  The heat can help relax the muscles in those areas and provide relief.
  • Parsley can be a great herbal remedy for Menstrual Problems.  It can help establish regular menstrual flow as well as assist in maintaining a healthy, monthly period.  Drink equal parts parsley juice, beet juice, carrot juice, and cucumber juice once a day.  You can combine all of these items in a juicer or blender, if you prefer thicker smoothies.
  • Consuming raw papaya can be helpful for women with Menstrual Problems.  If you have premenstrual tension or painful periods, eating unripe papaya can help soothe these symptoms.  Papaya can help to contract the uterine walls, which helps to establish regular menstruation.
  • Sesame seeds have been known to assist with regulating menstrual cycles as well as helping to balance hormones.  Additionally, they contain essential fatty acids that help promote optimal hormone production.  If you grind dried sesame seeds up into a fine powder, you can mix 1 teaspoon of it in water every day to help relieve Menstrual Problems.  Store the powder in the freezer to preserve it.
  • It may be beneficial to participate in the Dherbs Female Cleanse, which should only be used by women who are over age 18.  The cleanse helps to establish normal menstruation, maintain normal vaginal health, aids in balancing hormones, and helps eradicate unhealthy cravings for sugars or junk foods.
  • To promote better overall health, it is beneficial to maintain a plant-based diet that is comprised of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains like barley or buckwheat.  By eating plant-based foods, you provide your body with the essential nutrients it needs without contaminating it with chemicals from processed foods, meat, dairy products, sugar, salt, or fried foods.
