Even though they are fun and allow you quality time with friend and family, the holidays can take a toll on your body. All of the heavy foods that people eat are hard to digest and often lead to lethargy, bloating, gas, or indigestion. That doesn’t mean that you have to immediately adopt a liquid diet or avoid food entirely to help your body. In fact, a drastic dietary shift can often do more harm than good. That’s why you just have to easy back into healthier ways with recipes like this post-holiday detox green smoothie.
This smoothie contains two dark leafy greens, which contain liver-supportive nutrients that help the body get rid of excess toxins from holiday foods. Kale and spinach are excellent leafy greens, but so are arugula, broccoli, Swiss chard, and collard greens. In addition to the minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants in leafy greens, they also contain fiber, which helps to reduce bloating, eliminate cravings, and balance blood sugar levels.
The other ingredients in this smoothie offer a mixture of macro and micronutrients. Hemp hearts, for example, are naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids and protein. Bananas contain complex carbs, magnesium, and potassium, while apples offer fiber, antioxidants, and natural sugars. The main takeaway is that this smoothie can aid digestion and replenish the body with nutrients that you probably didn’t eat over the long weekend. Enjoy!
