One of the best ways to embrace any season is to utilize seasonal produce. Since summer is here, you have probably seen different produce on grocery store shelves. Stone fruit tend to take up more real estate than usual, with displays of peaches, nectarines, pluots, apricots, plums, and cherries. Additionally, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries are abundantly available during the summer months. This is when berries and stone fruit are freshest, so take full advantage of them.

Could you make this smoothie using frozen blueberries and frozen peaches at any time throughout the year? Yes, of course you could. Would it taste as good as this smoothie that calls for those ingredients in their fresh form? Absolutely not! There’s nothing like eating a ripe peach during the summer heat. It’s one of life’s simplest pleasures, and it is hard to beat that pure enjoyment. Peaches are naturally rich in potassium, an integral mineral that may help support healthy blood pressure. Both peaches and blueberries exhibit lots of antioxidant activity, making these ingredients great for your immune system and cells.

The point we wanted to make with this smoothie is that you don’t need a lot of ingredients to create depth of flavor; rather, you just need the right ingredients. All you need ice, blueberries, peaches, and homemade almond milk. Making the almond milk is not a difficult task, although it sounds very labor intensive. All you need is a blender, water, raw almonds, and a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or fine mesh sieve to strain the mixture. Homemade almond milk exhibits a luscious texture and nutty flavor that perfectly complements the fruit in this smoothie. We hope you enjoy!
