Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) that is contracted via unprotected sexual contact (orally, vaginally, or anally). It is an infection that is caused by the Neissera gonorrhoea bacterium. Gonorrhea cannot live on the exterior of the body for more than a few seconds. It commonly infects internal, warm, and moist areas of the body such as the throat, anus, vagina, urethra, or in the femal reproductive tract. Both men and women can contract Gonorrhea, and of the people infected by it, 50%-70% of people will also have Chlamydia.
After one is exposed to Gonorrhea, symptoms usually occur about two weeks later. Many people, however, may not experience noticeable symptoms. It's important to remember that a person who doesn't have symptoms is still a carrier and can infect a non-infected person. Gonorrhea is commonly spread when symptoms are silent in the carrier. Some symptoms include:
- Thick, Cloudy Discharge from vagina or penis
- Sensitve Swollen Testicles in Men
- Painful Bowel Movements
- Heavy Bleeding between periods in women
- Anal Itching
- Pain or Burning during Urination
- Persistent Sore Throat
- Redness at opening of the penis
- Need to urinate more frequently
Gonorrhea is caused by the Neissera gonorrhoea bacterium, but it is transmitted via unprotected sexual contact (orally, vaginally, or anally). The bacterium grows in the moist and warm parts of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus, urethra, or fallopian tubes. It can also grow in the mouth, throat, and anus. A person contracts the infection when he/she has unprotected sex with an infected person. Gonorrhea can also be spread by coming in contact infected bodily fluids, so a mother can pass the infection to her baby during childbirth. Common causes are below.
- The Neissera gonorrhoea bacterium
- Unprotected Sexual Contact (orally, vaginally, or anally)
- Childbirth
- Breastfeeding
Dherbs Approach...adjusting your diet is always key!
- If you or your partner have Gonorrhea, the most effective way to not pass the bacteria is to abstain from sexual contact. To decrease the chances of getting Gonorrhea, avoid having sexual contact with multiple partners at a time. Always ask if the sexual partner has Gonorrhea or any other STD to be safe.
- You may not think a healthy diet can help treat Gonorrhea, but eating healthily can help boost the immune system, making it more capable of combating infections. Maintaining a diet comprised of raw nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables, lots of water, probiotics, and wheatgrass can be very beneficial because all of those provide the body with essential nutrients in their purest forms. Avoid eating meat, processed foods, dairy, sugar, salt, alcohol, and smoking.
- Consuming goldenseal and echinacea increases the strength of the immunse system. Both of these have natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory substances, which can help to get rid of Gonorrhea.
- Exercise is a beneficial ways for your immune system to get a workout. When you exercise you promote healthy blood flow and boost your metabolism and immune system, which aids in the body's natural waste elimination process. A healthy immune system is key in helping the body eliminate a bacterial infection like Gonorrhea.
- Mangosteen is a tropical fruit that has been for many years to help treat Gonorrhea because of its high vitamin C content. Finding it in America is rare because it is predominant in Southeast Asia. If you do find it, the best way to use it is to extract the juice and consume it orally.
- Apple cider vinegar is a common natural remedy that is used for many conditions including Seborrhea or other types of Dermatitis. If you are a woman, the best way to use this remedy is to mix a teaspoon of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar with coconut oil and absorb the mixture in a new tampon. Insert the soaked tampon into the vagina. If you don't want to do that, pour about 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a luke warm bath and soak in it for about 15 minutes.
- Raw garlic is a fantastic herbal remedy because it has incredible anti-bacterial properties. While consuming raw garlic cloves is optimal for the most benefits, you can incorporate garlic into your meals to reap its benefits. You can also put raw garlic into smoothies or you can juice it. Pair it with ginger and dark leafy greens for a nutrition packed smoothie/juice.
- You may want to consider taking a zinc supplement because it is one of the best minerals that helps to boost the immune system. It can help increase the number of white blood cells and antibodies, and directly affects the bacterial infection.
