IV nutrition, or IV vitamin therapy, is one of the most popular therapies that can improve a person’s overall wellness. Intravenous (IV) therapy is typically reserved for cancer patients, but people nowadays use it as a way to supplement vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream. Depending on the concoction, IV therapy promises improved immune function, reduced hangovers, increased energy, enhanced hydration, and healthier skin. Naturally, Vinnie, our content writer and host of “The Adventures of V-Man, had to check it out.
If you want to improve overall wellness, from mental to physical health, the body requires certain levels of vitamins and minerals. More often than not, the average person is low or deficient in essential nutrients that keep the body functioning like a well-oiled machine. Given the current times we are living in, with the threat of COVID-19, it’s imperative to load up on all your essential vitamins and minerals.
You’ll find out Vinnie’s thoughts and experience of the IV vitamin therapy below.
Hydrate House
Hydrate House, located in downtown Glendale, California, is a quaint doctor’s office that recently started offering IV vitamin therapy. The office primarily focus on beauty treatments that enhance skin health, reduce wrinkles, or improve complexion. Similar to other IV drip therapy establishments, the doctor at Hydrate House can concoct an IV drip that caters to your health. Certain vitamins can beautify the skin, improve immune function, reduce headaches, enhance athletic performance, or improve sleep.
I talked with the doctor about IV vitamin therapy and he explained it in such a beautiful way. It was so easy to understand! Basically, intaking vitamins through an IV ensures 100% vitamin and mineral absorption, whereas ingesting supplements or food doesn’t guarantee 100% absorption. The vitamins and minerals go directly into the bloodstream, so your body doesn’t have to work to digest and absorb them; rather, they become instantly available for use. That’s why you feel like you can run through a wall after! Finally, the doctor said that you can receive much higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals through an IV drip than you would through oral administration.
The Therapy
Let me first start out by saying that I am not a fan of needles, which is a crazy thing to say since I have four large tattoos. I’m weird, I know, but that’s okay. The doctor explained that I would be receiving the Meyer’s cocktail, which is a concoction of calcium, B-vitamins (including B-12), a heavy dose of vitamin C, and magnesium. The doses and nutrients in a Meyer’s cocktail can vary depending on the place that offers the IV therapy.
I situated myself on the bed, got comfortable, and the nurse prepared my arm for the injection. I hated that moment, but the nurse stuck me as gently as possible. While I couldn’t look at the injection, I didn’t really feel it, which was amazing! She hooked me up to the IV bag of vitamin goodness and told me to sit back, relax, and enjoy the drip.
The crazy thing is that as soon as the drip started, I began to salivate a lot and it tasted like I just took a bunch of vitamins. You’ll see me smacking my lips like a weirdo in the video, so now you know why I did that. Unfortunately, there’s no specific flavor that I can describe. It just tasted like supplements, but don’t worry because it goes away after five minutes or so. What I found interesting was that my bicep got a little cold, but the nurse said that this was normal. In fact, it’s a common reaction to the high concentration of vitamin C, and there’s nothing to fear if this happens to you. The only thing that she said I had to worry about was if my muscles started to cramp. They can provide services to alleviate the cramping and relax the muscles surrounding the IV.
My Reflection
In the several hours following the vitamin IV therapy session, I felt more hydrated than I’ve ever felt in my life. I had a renewed sense of energy to tackle the remainder of the day, so I powered through my work once I got back to the office. I don’t know if this is too much information, but I had to pee like five times in two hours, which the doctor said is normal. Lastly, the doctor explained that my sleep would be magical after receiving my vitamin IV therapy. Let me tell you something, people…I slept sounder than a baby otter nestled in the embrace of 10 otter mothers. I like otters, so what? Anyways, my point is that I slept great and woke up feeling very energized.
Hydrate House is easy to get to and the staff was extremely knowledgable and friendly. In addition to the vitamin IV therapy, they offer lots of therapies, and the staff can advise you based on your health needs. They are taking precautionary measures in light of COVID-19, so you don’t have to worry in that regard. You can book an appointment with them over the phone or via their website. If you don’t feel comfortable going into the office, they have a concierge service, so you can do vitamin drips from the comfort of your own home. You can view their contact info and social media below.
