Recipe: Rethink Your Drink With This Brain Boosting Smoothie

Most people are concerned with the foods that will work for the digestive system, circulatory system, blood pressure, arthritis, liver, or colon. While these are all important body components to address, people often neglect the health of the brain, which is not something that should be forgotten. There are foods that nourish brain health and nerve pathways that are important for other bodily functions.

In honor of Brain Awareness Week 2017 (March 13th-19th), we wanted to give you some foods, and a smoothie, that can help keep your brain healthy. While the actual Awareness Week was established to get scientists, families, schools, and communities together to learn about scientific advancements, we care about the health of the brain itself. If we don’t take care of our brains, we can’t make brain advancements.

Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the best antioxidant-rich foods, containing vitamins C & K and essential dietary fiber. Since blueberries are rich in gallic acid, they help to protect the brain from degeneration and stress.

Spinach

Spinach does a lot more than make your bones strong. Popeye was definitely ahead of the game because people who eat one serving of spinach, or green leafy vegetables in general, a day experience slower mental deterioration than those who don’t. So eat your spinach to help avoid the early onset of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Oranges

Oranges contain tons of vitamin C, which helps fight free radicals in the body. Additionally, oranges can help to improve alertness and concentration.
