We can’t tell you how beneficial it is to have dates while you are cleansing. Sure, meeting other people for lunch is nice…(wow that was a real knee-slapper). In all seriousness, we are talking about dates, you know, the ones that you eat. These have been known to help intestinal disorders, heart problems, anemia, diarrhea, and other abdominal disorders.
The date palm has been cultivated since about 6,000 B.C. and it bears a naturally sweet fruit, which can be eaten fresh, although it is commonly eaten in its dried form. Dates, fresh or dried, are rich in fiber, potassium, copper, magnesium, manganese, and vitamin B6.
Dates have been known to help reduce blood pressure and have lots of anti-inflammatory properties. Both of these benefits can be attributed to the magnesium content. While we could go on an on about the health benefits of dates, we want you to use them because they are great natural sweeteners.
If you are making dressings, sauces, nut butters, homemade energy bars, or desserts, dates are absolutely essential. Just remember that a little goes a long way. The inherent sweetness of dates is very powerful and the texture lends itself to making delicious energy bites or raw ice creams.
Remember This
It is important to buy dried dates that are unsulfured and free of added sugars or preservatives. Medjool dates are delicious and popular in different grocery stores. Most dates have pits, so always remember to remove the pits prior to using them in your recipes.
