Making your own body wash is one of the best ways to address your skin’s needs. Some people need a body wash to help moisturize, while others need a concoction that contains antibacterial properties. Certain commercial soaps and body washes claim to have these benefits, but they often contain chemicals that can contaminate your internal organs because your body absorbs them via the skin.
We came across this particular recipe and fell in love with its simplicity. Each ingredient works to benefit the skin in a different way. We particularly love the effects of raw honey on the skin. It is best to use organic, unfiltered raw honey for the best benefits. The antibacterial properties of raw honey work to penetrate the pores and keep them clean. If you are using jojoba or coconut oil as a carrier oil, they both help to prevent bacterial buildup after the honey cleans the pores.
Which Carrier Oil To Use?
The most common carrier oils are coconut, avocado, argan, sweet almond, or extra virgin olive oil. Virgin coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids that help to kill bacteria on the skin. Continued use of coconut oil has been linked to clearer complexion and fewer breakouts. Olive oil, on the other hand, is beneficial for those with dry skin or people with nut & seed allergies. Even though it nurtures the skin, remember that it does have a potent aroma. You can also use avocado oil, which helps to increase collagen and moisturize the skin, especially during the winter. Additionally, avocado oil is rich in omega-3s and beneficial antioxidants!
Which Essential Oils To Use?
The essential oils you decide to mix in with your soap will depend on your desired scent and the different health benefits. Lavender oil is a mainstay in the world of essential oils. It has a signature scent that helps to relieve stress, prevent acne breakouts, and heal old scars. Rosemary oil has potent anti-aging properties that help to improve skin elasticity. It has also been known to combat stress and provide the body with free radical-fighting antioxidants. Finally, you can use tea tree oil, which has been known to help those with eczema, psoriasis, or acne. It has moisturizing and soothing properties that prevent dryness; and it smells lovely!
