If you are a fan of luscious locks that shimmer in the afternoon light, it helps to have a nurturing leave-in conditioner. Leave-in conditioners help to lock in the moisture, but it is best to make your own in order to avoid the harmful chemicals found in store bought hair care products.
Get rid of frizz and leave your hair feeling smooth and full when you use this leave-in conditioner. The great thing is that this DIY recipe helps to stimulate hair growth with the all-natural ingredients. Speaking of ingredients, let’s take a look at some of the key players that make this conditioner awesome.
Coconut Oil
Rich in antioxidants and nutrients that contribute to healthy hair, coconut oil is great for repairing damage caused by chemical hair products. The E & K vitamins in coconut oil help to make your hair manageable and soft. The natural protein in your hair binds to the Lauric acid in coconut oil, gradually strengthening hair strands and reducing hair breakage.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary essential oil has been known to increase hair growth by about 20%. It nearly tops the list of essential oils that enhance hair growth! Packed with antioxidants that fight free radicals, rosemary essential oil helps to get rid of dandruff or other scalp irritations.
Shea Butter
Shea butter is commonly used to moisturize skin because it contains a lot of beneficial fatty acids. Containing vitamins A & E, along with phytonutrients, unrefined shea butter helps to condition and protect the hair shaft. If the scalp is dry, shea butter helps to moisturize and keep it from becoming flaky or irritated. Shea butter also strengthens hair by reducing breakage, which results in healthier hair over time.
Argan Oil
Commonly used to get rid of dandruff, argan oil also helps to promote healthy hair growth. It also helps to undo damage done to your hair by chemicals in hair products. Argan oil works to control frizzy hair and make brittle hair more manageable and soft.
Ingredients For Conditioner:
- 4 tablespoons unrefined shea butter
- 1 tablespoon argan oil
- 3 tablespoons virgin coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons witch hazel hydrosol
- 7 drops rosemary essential oil
- 7 drops horsetail extract oil
- 1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
Instructions:
- When you make this, it is important to make sure that all of the kitchen utensils you’ll be using are clean. You can easily sanitize them by cleaning everything with soap and water and then swabbing them with rubbing alcohol.
- Warm a few inches of water in a large saucepan over low heat. Place a stainless steel or heat-safe glass bowl on top of the saucepan. Add the shea butter, argan oil, and coconut oil to the bowl and stir occasionally until everything is melted.
- Add the vitamin E oil and whisk ingredients. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool to room temperature. The mixture should look thick and opaque.
- Transfer this mixture to blender and blend on high. While blending, slowly add the witch hazel hydrosol. It will take about 3 minutes for everything to blend well.
- Finally, add the rosemary and horsetail oils and blend for another minute. Transfer to an airtight glass jar and store in a cool, dry place.
