With the New Year right around the corner, you may be searching for easy yet healthy ways to start the year. You have to ask yourself what feasible health goals you want to accomplish so that you don’t get discouraged. One of the best ways to have healthy New Year is to start every morning in January off with a green smoothie.
When most people go for the green smoothie challenge, they find that most ingredients go bad before they can use them up. This may be due to wrongly storing your produce, but it is most likely due to the fact that it isn’t convenient or quick to cut up all the ingredients in the morning when you’re in a rush. Cereal or toast becomes a more viable option due to convenience.
Prepping your green smoothie ingredients in advance makes it a convenient breakfast option. After prepping the ingredients, divide the right amount of items in quart-size Ziploc bags and store them in the freezer. We are not saying to buy frozen ingredients! Buy fresh ingredients and then freeze them. That way you can pull a bag out, empty the items in your blender, and pour in a little distilled water before blending.
Ingredients (for 1 smoothie bag)
- 1 cup kale (stems removed)
- ½ cup parsley, chopped
- 1 Granny Smith apple, cubed
- 1 banana, sliced
- 2 cups distilled water
If you are buying all of the ingredients in one grocery run, you will need:
- 3-5 bunches of kale
- 5 bunches of parsley
- 30 Granny Smith apples
- 30 bananas
- 60 cups of distilled water
Bulk prepping your smoothie ingredients is a great way to have a healthy start to the New Year. Jump on the healthy bandwagon and keep it going throughout the year!
