Eating garlic-infused honey may not be the go-to condiment for most people. It isn’t necessarily appetizing to think about, and it just doesn’t fulfill you the same way agave, stevia, or plain honey might. The inevitable “but” is that garlic and honey have incredible immune-boosting properties that can do wonders for the body. You’ll have to eat this healing combo for a week when you’re sick to see for yourself, though.
Garlic
People usually use garlic for the robust and signature flavor. It goes great in marinades and sauces, but it doesn’t often get used for its healing properties. Garlic has antiviral and antimicrobial properties, and it is rich in antioxidants. Additionally, it helps lower cholesterol levels and is great for combatting colds or viruses. When it comes to using garlic, make sure you use raw, fresh cloves. Buying pre-minced garlic will not give you the same benefits.
Raw Honey
Raw honey is rich in beneficial enzymes and nutrients, including zinc, iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and selenium. The honey you see in little plastic bears is often heavily processed with chemicals that cancel out the benefits of honey in its raw form. Raw honey is great for sore throats and it does wonders for the immune system.
Since the cold weather often brings about sickness or common colds, having garlic-infused honey in the house is a great herbal remedy. Here is what you’ll need and how to make it.
Ingredients
- 3 heads of fresh garlic
- 1 cup raw honey
- glass jar with a lid
Directions
- Separate the heads of garlic into cloves, but don’t peel the cloves.
- Fill the jar with unpeeled garlic cloves and pour the raw honey over them. If there are any air bubbles, use a spoon to release them.
- Keep the cloves submerged in the honey and cover the jar. Let this infuse for a few days at room temperature.
When you are feeling sick or need an immunity boost, take a spoonful of this garlic-infused honey every morning for 7 days. You will experience more energy and you’ll see that you don’t feel dragged down by whatever virus you have.
