Hemp seeds, or hemp hearts, contain high amounts of arginine, an amino acid that produces nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide is a gas molecule that causes blood vessels to dilate and relax, which helps to lower blood pressure. A large study that consisted of over 13,000 people observed that increased arginine intake helped reduce C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker linked to heart disease. Additionally, the gamma-linolenic acid in hemp seeds works to reduce inflammation.
