DIY Sea Salt Texturizing Hair Spray

DIY Sea Salt Texturizing Hair Spray

A laid back beach day results in optimal vitamin D absorption and wavy hair that’s textured with the essence of the ocean spray. What if you want your hair to look like you spent your day sunbathing on the beach without actually going to the beach? Well, the good news is that you can! All you have to do is make an all-natural sea salt spray.

Many cosmetic companies manufacture a variety of sea salt sprays, but they can cost you a pretty penny. The primary reason that people love a good sea salt spray is because it typically adds volume. A sea salt spray can give your hair a little extra “oomph,” helping it to hold curls throughout the day. Since it’s almost 100% saltwater, though, shelling out $20 a bottle seems crazy. You can make your own sea salt spray for a fraction of the cost with four ingredients.

Benefits For Thin Hair

If you have thinner or thinning hair, sea salt sprays can help you get more creative with styling. Because sea salt sprays help to add volume, they help your hair appear thicker, and makes it so it doesn’t just fall flat halfway through your day. For optimal results, direct the sea salt spray towards your roots when you start styling.

Benefits For Oily Hair

People with oily hair often love the beach because their hair always seems less oily afterwards. This is because sea salt helps to absorb excess sebum on the scalp. Using a sea salt spray, then, can lengthen the amount of time you need between washes. After applying the sea salt spray, you’ll notice that your hair appears wet and attractive instead of greasy and flaky

Benefits For Thick Hair

It’s easy for full or thick hair to become naturally wavy. A sea salt spray can help add texture and maintain a better hold or shape throughout the day. If your goal is to achieve natural curls, sea salt can enhance this process, but make sure to use a hydrating conditioner afterwards. The reason for this is because sea salt sprays can make curly or thick hair feel dryer than usual; therefore you need to add moisture back to it. Fortunately, the sea salt spray in this article has moisturizing avocado oil!

DIY Sea Salt Spray

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1-2 teaspoons avocado oil (or argan oil)
  • 4-5 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions:

  • Warm the water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Allow it to come to a simmer and then remove it from the heat.
  • Pour the water into a measuring cup with a pour spout and stir in the sea salt until it is completely dissolved. Then whisk in the avocado oil and essential oil.
  • Pour this mixture into a spray bottle and give it a good shake.
  • Use this sea salt spray when your hair is still wet. You can blow dry it after and style it as you please.
