QUESTION OF THE DAY

It's been 2 weeks now since, I started eating exclusively raw. I'm even baking whole wheat bread in the sun. This was a great substitute for the cooked rice I used to eat. I'm also eating quite a large amount of grapes (red and white), as my body seems to ask for it. But recently, I noticed that my heart is beating quite strongly, and I find difficulty to bear the hot weather as a consequence. Also, I noticed a white pimple on the tip of my tongue, and this was a confirmation that there was maybe too much stimulating energy in the heart (according to oriental diagnosis of the tongue). When I eat sun baked bread, I automatically feel heat in the body. So I'm wondering if this is a good food to continue with or not. Isn't it more "neutral" (in terms of energy) to include a small portion of cooked brown rice along with the raw regimen? Just want remind you of my health issue: HPV and bacteria in the urinary tract.

If you had sex with the guy who cheated on you, you ignited stored residual feelings from the initial violation of your trust. Forgive yourself (and him) and move on. COOKING TIPS & RECIPES

Vegan Strawberry Cookies

Ingredients:
12 ounces strawberries, chopped, no steam/leaves
1/2 cup raw sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
6 tablespoons coconut oil, solid but workable
2/3 cup almond milk

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine strawberries and 2 tablespoons raw sugar.

In a separate container, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 7 tablespoons raw sugar. Cut in the coconut oil with a pastry cutter, whisk, fork, or rub in with your fingers, until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in almond milk until dough starts to come together, then stir in strawberry mixture.

Using a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop or a tablespoon, drop dough onto baking sheets.

Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool. Vegan Strawberry Cookies are best served immediately.

Enjoy your vegan strawberry cookies, do not forget to dip them in vegan chocolate.

Can they positively recharge your recuperation?


Bodybuilders who want to remain drug-free but still build a champion's physique are constantly in search of safe, natural methods to do so. Nutritional supplements have certainly helped elevate the sport, as have better diets. One new tool being increasingly used to improve recovery from hard training and reduce the discomfort of injury is the static magnet. The magnetic strips or discs now sold via network marketing, infomercials and mail order and through stores come in all sorts of products from joint supports to seat cushions. Some are designed to be placed directly on an aching body part.



The subject of magnets in health is controversial. Most of the "proof" that magnets help speed recovery from training and allow muscles and connective tissue to heal faster has come from the personal experiences of athletes and non athletes alike. their testimonies about the beneficial, sometimes miraculous effects from magnets are encouraging and shouldn't be discounted, yet fall short of scientific proof. Those who oppose the use of static magnets believe they're nothing more than medieval witchcraft revised for the '90s. Do magnets really work, or are they just snake oil? Let's look at the evidence.


The Science Behind Static Magnetics



Unlike an electromagnet, which sends electrical current artificially through conducting coils to create the magnetic field, a static magnet has a built-in permanent magnetic field that never needs replenishing. Examples of static magnets are those used to stick notes to a refrigerator door, a grade-school horseshoe magnet and a magnetic compass. All magnets have a north and south polarity and either attract or repel. North repels north, north attracts south and south repels south.



Reports indicate that through the magnets' natural effect on charged particles in the blood, they help blood vessels expand, allowing a larger quantity of nutrient-rich blood to flow into an area for faster healing and growth. Blood is an electrical conductor, and electrolytes are compounds that can carry electric current within the body via the movement of ions such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. When these ions with their positive and negative charges pass by a magnetic field, a separation of ions occurs.



According to a recognized expert on biomagnetism, Ted Zablotsky, MD, new research over the past five years has pointed to three specific actions of static magnets on blood vessels. "First, we've seen a slight liberation of heat as the ions separate. Second, the ions crisscross back and forth between north and south poles of the magnet. Third, small eddy currents occur in the bloodstream, just as the eddy currents in a river push the banks outward. These effects collectively contribute to widening the blood vessels to allow more blood to pass through," he says.


All Magnets Are Not Created Equal



Most magnets in use today are inefficient, which may be why magnet users have reported mixed results. As more research is conducted, static magnets may yet prove to be the new recovery tool of the 1990s and beyond, but beware-not all magnets are created equal. Choose the wrong type and you'll get little or no benefit.



While any static magnet, even the horseshoe type you played with as a kid, may influence blood flow, the design of the magnet determines just how great the effects are. The force of the magnet and how far this force penetrates into muscle tissue are key factors.



The strength of a magnet can be measured in gauss. For example, the magnetic field of the earth is less than 10 gauss, while the magnets discussed in this article usually fall between 300 and 500 gauss. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), used in medicine to view structures inside the body, introduces a strong magnetic field in excess of 10,000 gauss.



Though the strength of the magnet is important, two magnets with exactly the same strength can perform differently. Ordinary bar magnets that use standard parallel alternating north and south poles (see "The Standard Magnet") aren't the most efficient at penetrating muscle tissue, even if their gauss rating is high. Standard magnets are maximally effective only if the blood passes directly perpendicular to them; they're less influential if the blood vessel crosses at an angle or runs parallel to the magnet's poles.



The most effective magnet design is one using concentric circles of alternating polarity. The concentric design allows for the maximal penetration to, and action on, the capillaries bringing blood to muscle tissue in almost any direction the capillary travels. When tested with a gauss meter placed a quarter of an inch away, the magnetic "reach" from the concentric-circle magnet is approximately double that of a checkerboard pattern, and much greater than the standard bar-type magnet. The concentric-circle magnet has more magnetic field lines to spare, which can then penetrate the muscle tissue and make contact with ions within the blood vessels to cause an increase in blood flow.



One expert with several years of experience using concentric-circle magnets is Jack Scott, PhD, adviser to the U.S. Track and Field team for the past four Olympic Games. "Athletes with low-back tightness and pain can benefit from concentric magnets," he says.

I am a 65 year old man and in good overall health. Until about 4 months ago when I had a Metal Alloy Maryland Bridge installed. Now I always have a metal taste in my mouth and I need to chew gum during the day to cover up the taste. I am also getting sores on my inner cheek especially on the side of the metal however, there is no swelling or redness around the bridge. My dentist insists the metal is not causing sores and inflammation of cheeks. What do you think?

There are several possibilities that can explain your situation. First we need to know what metals were mixed together to make the framework for your bridge. And then we need to know if you have any other metals in your mouth. If you do, I could explain the problem easily.

And that would go like this: Your saliva acts similar to saline solution. When you have dissimilar metals in a saline solution you can get a galvanic reaction. This could explain your metallic taste. You may also be allergic to the metal or even the porcelain that is baked to the metal framework and that could be the reason for your mouth sores. It is also possible that the sores are caused by your lips catching on the porcelain causing a rub burn of sorts.

And then again it may not be that simple. Do you take any medications? Some drugs or combination of drugs can cause a metallic taste. There are acidic foods that could react to the metal and give you the metallic taste. Some diseases can cause a burning sensation in your mouth. And finally, if you have generalized or even localized gum disease you could get a metallic taste from the necrotic breakdown of your gum tissue. This was termed trench mouth years ago.

Again, I would have to examine your mouth and ask you many questions. There has to be an explanation. And I would investigate all the above possibilities. I would love to hear back from you.

If you've been reading health magazines and websites for any length of time, you've read a litany of reasons why soda is bad for you. It's nothing but sugar water. It's devoid of any nutritional value. It leads to obesity and diabetes. But we've dug up nine other disturbing facts about what soda does to your body, besides packing on the pounds, that don't get much attention in broader discussions about soda and its impact on your health.

Weird Fat in Weird Places
In the latest bad news for the soda industry, Danish researchers discovered that drinking non-diet soda leads to dramatic increases in fat buildup around your liver and your skeletal muscles, both of which can contribute to insulin resistance and diabetes. The study revealed that people who drank a regular soda every day for six months saw a 132 to 142 percent increase in liver fat, a 117 to 221 percent jump in skeletal fat, and about a 30 percent increase in both triglyceride blood fats and other organ fat. Their consumption also led to an 11 percent increase in cholesterol, compared with the people who drank other beverages such as water or milk.

Diet-Soda Belly
It's not surprising that drinking all the sugar in sodas would cause weight gain, but what is surprising is that even diet soda will pack on the pounds: Researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center monitored 475 adults for 10 years, and found that those who drank diet soda had a 70 percent increase in waist circumference over the 10-year study, compared with those who didn't drink any soda. Those who drank more than two diet sodas per day saw a 500 percent waist expansion! A separate study the same researchers conducted on mice suggested that it was the aspartame, which raised blood glucose levels, that caused the weight gain; when your liver encounters too much glucose, the excess is converted to body fat.

Chopped walnuts are added for satisfying protein, omega-3 fatty acids and a variety of antioxidants in the form of phenols, vitamin E and flavonoids. These nutrients combine to create a powerful source of sustainable energy.

Cinnamon and a small amount of apple cider vinegar are added for a burst of flavor. They also add the important element of blood sugar stabilization. Both of these ingredients are known for their ability to balance blood glucose levels for hours.

Hummus cucumber and olive
The primary ingredient in hummus is the chick pea. Chick peas are high in fiber and protein and are often a staple in a vegan diet because of this. The other main ingredient which gives hummus a distinct flavor and adds much of the nutritional value is tahini.

Tahini is s sesame seed paste. It is rich in amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, and several B vitamins. It also contains copper, which enhances immunity and helps calm inflammation.

Cucumbers are low in calories and high in water content. They are filling and replenishing to the body without adding a lot of calorie density. They are also a very alkaline food. This means they help reduce destructive acidity in the body. Cucumbers also contain three classes of antioxidants called flavonoids, lignans, triterpenes.

Throw These Cooking Oils in the Trash

In the words of Fast Food Nation author Eric Schlosser:

“If they have to put the word ‘natural’ on a box to convince you, it probably isn’t.”

But this doesn’t stop countless processed food manufacturers from boldly labeling their products as 100% natural in the hopes of appealing to health-minded shoppers like you.

After all, products labeled as “natural” or “sustainable” account for $50 billion in sales annually, or 8 percent of total retail grocery sales, and the numbers are likely growing.

When you see a supposedly “natural” product, like ConAgra’s Wesson brand vegetable oils claim to be, you would probably assume they contain no genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which by definition are not found in nature.

But Wesson oils, specifically the Canola Oil, Vegetable Oil, Corn Oil, and Best Blend, do in fact contain GMOs, prompting a class-action lawsuit over their misleading “100% natural” label claim.

Any GM Product is, by Definition, NOT Natural
The lawsuit alleges that ConAgra’s use of GM corn and soy in their cooking oils disqualifies the product as being labeled “all-natural.” The plaintiffs cite two very fitting definitions of genetic modification to prove their point, including one from biotech giant, and leading GM seed creator, Monsanto.

As Food Safety News reported:

“According to Monsanto, GMOs are: “Plants or animals that have had their genetic makeup altered to exhibit traits that are not naturally theirs.” The complaint also quotes a GMO definition from the World Health Organization: “Organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally.”
