12 Yoga Poses To Undo Your Desk Job

12 Yoga poses to undo the damage of your desk job. http://dherbs.com/uploads/news/id9162/yoaposesthumb.jpg

You may joke that your job is slowly killing you, but it might actually be true.

And while job-related stress seems like the main culprit when it comes to health and your career ( it can have negative health effects as far ranging as increased heart attack risk, depression or premature aging), there's another danger lurking in the office: Sitting.

"Sitting is the new smoking," warned Wired magazine earlier this year. And indeed research links a highly sedentary lifestyle with a shorter life span and increased risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, among other serious health problems.

As most desk jockeys know (and feel), sitting over a keyboard for hours can contribute to tightness in the hips and legs, in addition to neck, shoulder and back pain and discomfort. Camping out all day at a desk can also create an unhealthy posture -- that you take with you when you leave for the day -- in which the back and shoulders hunch down and the neck protrudes forward.

"There are a lot of very negative physical reactions created when the body's not in movement," Vyda Bielkus, certified yoga instructor and founder of Health Yoga Lifestudio in Boston, tells The Huffington Post. "Between sitting eight hours a day and then being in the elevator looking at your smartphone, you're totally misaligning the spine."

Yoga postures that target areas of tension can be an effective antidote to many desk-job ailments, according to Bielkus. And, as an added bonus, mind-body practice may help address the damaging stress of a high-pressure job by helping to calm the mind and quiet racing thought patterns.

"Yoga allows us to tap into the space between our thoughts, into our quiet mind and our awareness," Bielkus says. "That's what helps us gain perspective that stress is a choice -- I can react with ease or I can react with stress and anxiety. Yoga helps us create some distance from our reactions."

Q: I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer - I was advised that I should receive a therapy called HIUF High Intensity Ultrasound Frequency - There is a company in Germany that uses this treatment for Prostate Cancer - They have a 98.0% success rate with their method...Have you ever heard of such a treatment. - The one thing that interested me is that it is not chemo or radiation... There is another one called Proton Therapy... What do you know about these treatments?

    A:

These therapies are new and better/safer than chemo and radiation but remember, no therapy can undo bad diet, unhealthy lifestyle, and unhealthy/negative thinking. If you undergo the therapies, don't forget that disease conveys a message to you to change your life to the better. You did something to harm your prostate and no therapy can undo this fact! We have an article "MALE PROSTATE HEALTH" you may find interesting. Herbally, you'd fare well from the FULL BODY DETOX followed by the TOTAL MALE CLEANSE.

Q: Hi, I am interested in your raw foods detox however, I am in the gym 6 days a week doing spinning, other cardio & weight training, will I be able to continue with my normal fitness routine during detox?

    A:

Hi Karen, Thanks for the question.

    Detoxing and fitness.

The best way to detox your body is to give it the tools and time necessary to clean house. There are many types of detoxes and many avenues for fitness. The best way to detox is to rest the body while giving it the cleanest foods and herbs. However, some light forms of exercise like yoga, swimming, jogging, pilates are acceptable because they are light and won't require the amount of nutrients to repair and replenish. A raw food detox is sublime and is one fantastic step towards a healthier body and mind. I encourage you to try it.

What I would do is scale back on the exercise for the length of the detox and have fun! Go hiking and enjoy nature. A light jog instead of a spin class. I guarantee you will not lose strength or endurance during the detox. Intense exercise increases the bodies need for nutrients and protein.

Imagine if you will you have a desk at work. And work keeps piling up and no matter how  you try to efficiently make it through you can't seem to get ahead. What detoxing is designed to do is give yourself the time to clean your desk. The most efficiently way for that to happen is to stop the work from coming in. Heavy exercise may increase your workload. You want your body to be in a cleaning mode and not a repair mode.

Again I would continue exercises that are light and stimulating. You want increased blood flow and you want to aid you lymph system to pump efficiently.

Lastly, if you are training for an event it may not be the best time to detox. Detoxing symptoms can throw you off your game. Best time to detox is the off season.

    Hope this answers your question.

Q: Hello, I am having some serious issues here. I have a history of depression/anxiety and female problems. About a month ago I had my second miscarriage and after that it seems like my health just went downhill. I was having severe dizziness and headaches and then I started having breathing trouble. The doctors have said it's just bronchitis and my anxiety and that I need to take my meds so I have started back on my antidepressants/anxiety meds. My health doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm having terrible stomach problems, no appetite, and my nerves are killing me. I'm also having muscle aches in my arms and legs and I'm having back and chest pains, please help me with some kind of advice. I've read through some of your articles but I'm still confused about what to do?

    A:

When you feel like this it's a sign that you need to reboot your system (body) and you do this by Detoxing your body and eating a healthy diet in addition to positive thinking. Q: I found this health article on the risk of getting cancer from working at night. I'm a night worker. have been for 16 yrs, and my sleeping and eating patterns haven?t been the same since. The article mentions taking melatonin...is that safe and effective? Also do you have any herbal cures for us night timers to reverse the effects of working the graveyard shift? I can sure use them?

    A:

Cancer stems from a host of things, not just one thing like working at night. Disease results from negative thoughts/mindset, negative attitude, poor diet; insalubrious lifestyle, and insalubrious environment. You don't need to take melatonin. Your body (pineal gland) produces it. As a night worker, just make sure when you are sleeping in the day time your room is completely dark, just like how Dracula used to sleep in the darkness of his coffin during the daylight hours. This is why Dracula was a thousand years old but looked young. He slept during the day (which produces melatonin which is an anti-aging hormone) and he operated at night whereby he also produced melatonin. Dude never aged! You do the same, just don't suck on no necks to get blood though -- LOL!!!! And no! There are no herbs to reverse anything that comes from actions or behaviors that are unnatural. You reverse the effects of night-time work by doing the opposite. In your case, it's your job (which you don't want to quit unless you can find another one), so you just get some good sleep during the day in pitch darkness.

Q: I've really been suffering with some anxiety issues and was looking at the symptoms of an overactive thyroid, which seem to be most of my symptoms. I was also about to have sexual relations with my girl for the first time and my body just started heating up like I had a fever, and the anxiety hit me like a bomb. I had taken the JACKRABBIT FORMULA, but it felt like the Yohimbe had my heart racing and I couldn't maintain an erection anymore do to nervousness of failure. I also get sweaty palms and feet a lot. My heart starts racing sometimes just out the blue. Could this be an overactive thyroid? Do you have any other suggestions of what could be going on?

    A:

It could be an over-active thyroid gland, Beloved! It could also be psycho-somatic. I think the Jackrabbit also played a role in your sweating situation too due to certain "warming" herbs. Learn yoga and meditation, Beloved. It's all in the mind, Good brother. The keys to life are in the mind. Check out our new e-book MENTAL SCIENCE MANUAL.
