Categories of diabetes were conveniently and strategically created by the National Diabetes Data Group of the National Institute of Health. When you see or have the word institute, you should see the connection to the word institution. http://dherbs.com/images/dherbs400x400.jpg
Diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is a condition of excessive blood sugar. It affects people of all ages.

There are three types of diabetes:
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes, and
  • Gestational diabetes
Type 1 diabetes includes individuals dependent upon insulin to prevent ketosis (abnormal accumulation of ketones in the body as a result of a deficiency or inadequate utilization of carbohydrates). A keytone is an organic compound having the group -OH- linked to two hydrocarbon radicals. It is also known as the insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) subclass and was previously called juvenile-onset diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes deals with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).

Gestational diabetes is unique to pregnant women who experience high blood sugar but do not have a history of diabetes. Often gestational diabetes will subside after the baby is born.

Causes and Risk Factors

The pancreas secretes insulin into the bloodstream to regulate the level of sugar in the blood and also converts sugar into heat and energy.

Diabetes is caused the body's inability to properly use insulin, a naturally occurring hormone secreted by the pancreas in response to blood glucose (sugar). It can be caused by too little insulin secreted into the blood stream, or a resistance to insulin.

Diabetes can be caused by:
  • Poor diet
  • Virus affecting the pancreas
  • Genetics

Symptoms

Symptoms of diabetes are:
  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive urination
  • Blurry vision
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Persistent hunger
  • Rapid weight loss

Natural Healing Options

There are natural healing options for people with diabetes.

Active lifestyle
Increased obesity rates have brought increased Type 2 diabetes diagnoses. To prevent Type 2 diabetes, get plenty of exercise-enough to maintain a healthy body weight.

Herbs
The best diabetic herb, which would also have to be the best pancreatic herb, is Devil's Club. This unique herb is a pancreas tonic and blood sugar regulator.

The next best herb for diabetes would have to be Gymnema sylvestre. This Ayurvedic or Indian herb literally means destroyer of sugar and prevents sugar molecules in the colon from being absorbed into the bloodstream.

Karela or Moringa seed provides serious nutrition to the pancreas.

Atractylodis, though very foul in smell, is excellent for diabetes. It helps improve pancreas function.

Licorice root is a great glandular and hormonal herb and will help to normalize the blood sugar levels.

Fenugreek seed will greatly help to dissolve hardened mucus in the pancreas area.

Goldenseal root, Fringetree bark, and Elecampane are pivotal herbs for healing diabetes as they provide bio insulin, which is very important. In addition, they are very cleansing to the pancreas and other auxiliary organs (liver, spleen, appendix, etc.).

Guava leaf is a great pancreas tonic and blood sugar regulator.

Bilberry or Blueberry is so invaluable in the healing process of diabetes because it is the best herb available for ocular (eye) health and can improve eyesight.

Cinnamon, Ginger, and Cayenne are imperative for diabetes because these three herbs in tandem or unison are helpful for circulatory issues.

Juniper berries and Uva Ursi are diuretic herbs and promote passing of water or fluid (urination) and prevents the need for dialysis as they promote cleansing of the blood in the kidneys.

Stevia is great for diabetics as it can be consumed to normalize blood sugar levels and also to help eradicate the craving of sugar.

Cerasee promotes cleansing of the pancreas and blood and therefore excellent for healing diabetes.

Lycii (Wolf) berry is very revitalizing for the pancreas and stimulates the pancreas. It also revitalizes and invigorates the blood.

Dietary Intervention

Eating healthy is the best way to prevent Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes diagnoses are skyrocketing largely due to the increased rates of obesity among adults, teens and even children.

It's recommended that people with diabetes consume a special diet that's rich in fruits and vegetables and completely sugar free. Many nutritionists suggest no more than1,600 calories a day (including no more than 220g of carbs a day).

Green beans (aka string beans) are helpful to diabetics. They provide natural insulin and have healing constituents for the pancreas. Green (string) bean juice (2-4 ounces) daily will greatly help to speed up healing of diabetes. Brussels sprouts rank next to green beans for healing of diabetes. Blend string bean juice and Brussels sprouts together in a vegetable cocktail and drank daily or every other day.

Q: Your article was extremely thorough and sound concerning Diabetes, it's causes and remedies. However, I sort of lost you on weather juvenile diabetics can really be helped by natural remedies? After all, they have a non-functioning pancreas. Can it really be really be revived? If one had diabetes for 50 years. Is there really any hope for reviving the pancreas naturally, without inserting insulin any more? Please let me know, in my friends case, she had hepatitis before becoming a diabetic at age 14. There is a theory that this disease somehow instituted the destruction of the pancreas. Could it be, that insulin production was literally destroyed never to start again. Have you had other diabetics who were Type 1 recover totally from the disease? Especially after the pancreas has been shut down for so many years.

    A:

Beloved, there are no exceptions with natural healing. As long as the body is alive, the organs are alive, though they may be taxed. Give them what they need and simply watching the healing take place. Healing is simplistic! Nature does not categorize disease, e.g. Diabetes Type 1, Type 2. Nature heals what needs to be healed!

Q: I am a woman who happens to be diabetic and now I am pregnant. I would like to know what foods I should eat and restrain from while I am still pregnant. I am also taking insulin to keep my blood sugar levels low enough as not to harm my baby. They are telling me I need to eat dairy and meat to meet the dietary requirements for a healthy baby. Please help me. As I know you know better.

    A:

Congratulations on your pregnancy. New life is such a wonderful thing!

I recommend that you drink our Pancreas tea (1-2 cups a day).

Eat plenty of cinnamon, ginger, and cayenne pepper. Abstain from dairy products and meat products. These are no good for African people. If anything, eat meat-less (vegan) alternatives -- you can find plenty in our Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual ($11).

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. You can eat steamed vegetables and brown and/or wild rice (with vegan chicken if you like). Just switch meat for vegan products and switch to non-dairy products or dairy alternatives (which can be found in the Alternative Diet and Lifestyle manual).

For great nutrition for your baby, I recommend the following Dherbs formulas: PRE-NATAL FORMULA, VITAMIN C FORMULA, ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD, and Iodine Phosphate.

For natural sugar, try Stevia, Agave Nectar, and/or maple syrup.

I have 3 beautiful, healthy, and precocious vegan babies. A vegan diet coupled with proper nutrition makes for a healthy mother and child -- GUARANTEED!

Q: Hi Dherbs. I'm pregnant. I've been slacking off with my diet for years now, eating just about every bad thing but pork. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. Now I may have it again with my current pregnancy at 4 months. They're going to give me the 3 hr test and I know they'll try to make me take insulin. I really don't want to shoot myself with needles. It wasn't a pleasant experience last time. Anyway to make a long story short, I wanted to know if the following would be good products to work on the situation: FULL BODY DETOX SUGAR BUSTER TEA PANCREAS FORMULA Would any of these pose a problem or interact poorly with my baby? Do you suggest any other effective formula of yours to improve my glucose uptake and general health during this pregnancy?

    A:

I highly suggest the 10-DAY ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD CLEANSE for pregnant women. This cleanse will help to address all your needs and all health concerns. You can perform it as much as you like too! It provides great nutrition for mother and developing child.

Quote of the day
"I am convinced that unconditional love is the most powerful known stimulant of the immune system. If I told patients to raise their blood levels of immune globulins or killer T cells, no one would know how. But if I can teach them to love themselves and others fully, the same changes happen automatically. The truth is: love heals."
