Understanding Acidic vs. Acid-Forming

Many people become confused about acid or acidic foods due to hearing so much about the harm of an acidic or acid-forming diet.

Acid foods or acidic foods are the polarity of alkaline foods. Some nutritionists believe that our diets should consist of at least 20% of acid or acidic foods (unprocessed or unrefined fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and grains). The other 80% of foods we should consume should be alkaline. So 80% alkaline and 20% acid or acidic is a healthy balance.

Now while naturally acidic in nature (simply because they contain various acids), the acids in acidic foods are salubrious and needed by the body for purposes of balance. Balance is very important, both for spiritual and physical well-being.

The acids you find in an orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit are not the same kind of harmful acids found in acid-forming foods such as dairy products, meats, and refined grains.

Acid foods, i.e. citrus fruit and certain nuts, are not the same as "acid-forming" or "acid-inducing" foods, i.e. meat, milk, butter, ice cream, white bread, eggs, or sugar, which are usually processed and/or refined foods.

Refrain from confusing "acid foods" (which are listed in our Food Combining Chart) with "acid-forming" foods that have been cooked or processed.

Acid or acidic foods such as certain fruit and nuts will not produce harmful mucus (thick, viscous, yellow-greenish mucus) like acid-forming foods will produce. Again, there is a difference. Refrain from confusing "acid" or "acidic" with "acid-forming" or "acid-inducing." They are not the same!

Acid or acidic foods are produced in or by Nature and are healthy. They produce a healthy, clear-colored mucus.

Here's a short list of acid or acidic foods:

FruitCitrus fruit-oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruit, tangerines, etc.

SeedsChia seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds
NutsCashews, filberts, macadamia, pecans, walnuts, pistachio, etc.



These foods in their natural state are healthy to consume and do not produce unhealthy mucus (phlegm).

Acid-forming or acid-inducing foods

Acid-forming foods are man-made. They produce unhealthy mucus, also known as phlegm. The following foods are acid-forming or acid-inducing:

MiscellaneousSoda pop, wine, beer, coffee, chocolate, hot cocoa, Kool Aid, candy, lattes, chewing gum, distilled vinegar, canned foods, bottled foods, T.V. Dinners, potato chips, pickles; pharmaceutical drugs (prescription medicine), illegal or illicit drugs, etc.



These foods and beverages are unnatural and are man-made and unhealthy to consume. DHerbs does not recommend eating acid-forming or acid-inducing foods at any time.

THE PROBLEM IS WITH ACID-FORMING FOODS (COOKED FOODS: MEAT, DAIRY, REFINED STARCHES, REFINED GRAINS, ETC.). SO THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACID FOODS AND ACID-FORMING FOODS. AND YOU DO KNOW THAT MOST OF WHAT WE ARE EATING IS HYBRIDIZED, RIGHT? WE ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF WHAT WE ARE EATING TODAY. EVEN DR. SEBI EATS HYBRIDIZED FOODS. HE CAN'T HELP IT.     Q: Why does excess acid in the stomach comes back up? What can I do to stop it from coming back up?

    A:

    You are too acidic and the Body Intelligence is rejecting the acid for your own good. You cannot stop it from coming back up nor should you want to. The proper thing to do is to stop eating acid-forming foods which is the real problem.

    Acid-forming foods include all meats, all dairy products, all processed food-stuffs, soda pop, coffee, wine, pastries, refined grains, anything processed and refined.

    Eat more raw, organic fruits and vegetables (especially green vegetables) for they are alkaline which counteracts acidity. Our Electric Greens formula does the same thing.

    Q: I heard you today on The Warren Ballentine Show. I have been trying to convince people to eat right for months. My question to you is, for the last 6 months I have not eaten beef, or pork, I have eaten chicken about 5 times, but only white meat(breast, baked). I mostly just eat fish and turkey,(turkey bacon, turkey sausage, and ground turkey). I feel a whole lot better I was wondering if eating the turkey was still causing harm?     Q: What are the various foods that I should eat for my melanin and also to reduce mucus in my body?

    For melanin consciousness, eat all natural foods (fruits and vegetables), especially all green-colored plants that you like to eat. get plenty of nutritional copper (mineral) as well. Make sure you are sleep between the hours of 12 a.m. - 4 a.m when you pineal gland is secreting most of your melatonin which is very anti-aging in nature.

    Simply eat ALKALINE (raw fruits and vegetables) and this alone will combat mucus and prevent mucus buildup. Mucus comes from cooking food and eating unnatural things, like meat and dairy products and other refined things (i.e. refined bread, pastries).

    Q: I'm currently on day 3 of the FULL BODY DETOX and would like to know what exactly I can eat. I've only had water, tea, and oranges for breakfast, salads for lunch and dinner with a few cashew nuts in between. I would like to know exactly what you mean by combining foods together. Example, oranges and apples, are you saying they're not to be eaten together? If not, why?

    The ALTERNATIVE DIET AND LIFESTYLES MANUAL list great food alternatives during the detox. Food combining means do not eat foods not in the same category. Don't mix an acid fruit with a melon fruit. Don't mix fruit with vegetables. Don't mix acid fruit with sweet fruit, etc. Eat sweet fruit with other sweet fruit. Eat sub-acid fruit with sub-acid fruit. You wouldn't eat an orange (acid fruit) with an apple (sub-acid fruit). They are not in the same family.
