I have gone hiking a few times and I walk/bike 3-10 miles in the woods/state parks in my neighborhood and now I am ready to kick it up a notch.

I want to start hiking. I been reading www.americanhiking.org and http://lnt.org amongst other websites and I had know idea that hiking was so intense.

I got interested in hiking because of my walks through the woods and because I like to take pictures of nature. I realized one day that I  could not identify poisonous plants, which then led me to ordering field guides and then eventual I looked into hiking groups. I found a organization on Long Island that does hiking trips http://www.ligreenbelt.org/. I think I will start when it gets warmer because NY is freezing and I do not have the proper gear and im not experienced enough to hike in this weather.

Anyone on this board a hiker?  Share your experiences please!! or message me Smiley

Hiking is awesome. From the work out to feeling super close to nature...all fantastic. Ive been a few times as a child and loved it. My friend and I went last Nov. My nose started to bleed tho (??), guess it was from the high altitude and prolly some other factors.

We watched the sun set, took lots of pics, climbed rocks, befriended a brave young guy (he was 10) who was jumping from rock to rock and climbing them like it was no big deal. His fearlessness was so refreshing. Lol, he asked us a million questions...from how old I was to am I married...lol. We hiked about 10 miles. We too plan to go back once the weather warms up.

Hiking def gets the thumbs up from me!

This is where we went for any DMV peeps interested in hiking.
