Baron Samedi is the spirit of death, he manages the dead and lives in cemeteries except when he roams after midnight or comes out on All Saints Day(11/2). He definitely isn't the protector of children. The protector of children's name escapes me, but the image used to represent him is the catholic saint, St Jude. I will have to think which Lwa is the protector of children or ask around.
A flash of light is supposed to be a spirit/dimension, but i'm, not sure I always believe that. but if you saw a snap and a light, maybe it was that.
I though it was odd tht the lwa who resides over death would also be the protector of children...
I'm sure the king of the dead is said to be derived from Osiris who was ressurected as heru who was a protector of children but thts such a far stretch.anyway here it says that Baron Samedi's Chillun r indeed protectors of children.
