Peace
My curiousity inquires of the underactive thyroid gland.  Some kids these days have this disorder termed "growth hormone deficiency" from a underactive thyroid gland.  They say these children will turn out relatively short and mentally underdeveloped  The People's Herbalist, what do you recommend for a child who is diagnosed with this.  The conventional treatment seems to be a biosynthetic growth hormone that is injected over several years.  The effect is supposedly recognizable within a couple of months.  What would you recommend to treat this disorder?  Is this an circumstance where conventional medicine is positive?

Also, many women claim underactive thyroid as the  cause of their obesity.   Is there a connection between this "adult onset" thyroid problem and the growth hormone deficiency thyroid problem that children have?  There is an abundance of dietary recommendations on the net for this "adult onset" thyroid problem, would the same dietary cause apply to children with growth hormone deficiency?

Thanks in advance

Juicemaster:

For ANY thyroid condition, the key element to remember to correct the imbalance or pathology is IODINE, natural iodine (Iodine Phosphate; organic Iodine).

Any thyroid condition such as goiter, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, etc. is an Iodine mineral deficiency, thus to correct these thyroid conditions give the body what is greatly missing and what feeds and nourishes the thyroid gland - IODINE.

The thyroid gland regulates metabolism. When the metabolism is slow, there's usually a defect in the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland needs food (fuel)!

Thyroid or Iodine-rich herbs include all edible seaweeds (Spirulina, Blue Green algae, Chlorella, Kelp, Dulse, Red Marine algae, Irish Moss, Iceland Moss, Bladderwarck or Seawrack; Nori, Wakame, Hiziki, Arame, etc.) and the herbs Black Walnut Hulls and White Oak Bark.

A pregnant woman should take plenty of Iodine (herbs, seaweeds) so as to prevent cretinism, a disease or imbalance that creates structural and mental retardation, people that are called midgets.

People do not need synthetic growth hormones. The body has all the necessary and natural growth hormones it needs. If there is a deficiency due to poor nutrition, simply improve nutrition via improving the diet. Just eat the good things of the earth (which include herbs) and fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts and some grains.

Thank you for your inquiry!

So does the thyroid regulate how tall someone will grow.MY little cousin is 13 and is worried about being short. So I was wondering if he took some herbs to make sure his thyroid gland is working properly. Maybe that would make sure he grows to his optimal hieght. Any yhoughts?
