Here's a petition someone started about this. Don't know how much good it'll do, but it can't hurt.

I dont think this bill has support for this go round. But they will create the need for the change. If the steroids are not the real issue here then whats going going? This about money? Pharm companies noticed the high number of people turning away from medicine.

They have enough money to buy out the competition and make money on both sides. use the media as a tool. I just don't see the threat.

Very interesting topic. Here is my letter to my local Senators:

Dear Senator
I am contacting you in regards to the proposed bill of S.3002 - Dietary Supplement Safety Act. I oppose this bill strongly. I know for a fact that those of us who take vitamin supplements and herbal supplements are very well informed about the effects of the supplements. Over 95% of the individuals that take the supplements do their research, read information about what to expect when taking them, and are aware of how they work and how they benefit an individual function. Instead of banning tobacco, which, despite all the health warnings and dangers is still a booming business, there is focus on something that helps people better their overall health. I think that there are more important issues to focus on than the extended monitoring and scrutiny of natural substances. How about banning the fluoridation of water, since fluoride is considered a toxic substance, yet it is in practically added to many sources of water without detailed consumer knowledge. With the proposal of this bill, it seems as thought this is a driven motive to stop the right of every American to have a choice in how they choose to care for themselves. Supporting this bill, in my opinion, is equivalent to supporting a bill that would mandate how often and when I take a shower or have a meal. It is already bad enough that the economy is in shambles; I feel that we are focusing on the wrong things to make this country more efficient. Bill S. 3002 (Dietary Supplement Safety Act) is another time, money and resource waster. People are trying to figure out how to pay mortgages & bills, take care of their families, or even keeping gainful employment. If this bill passes, this will further impact the economy. There are so many health food stores in Illinois that sell solely the same product that Senator McCain is attempting to slow down the sale and distribution of. Why put more people out of work for the mere 5% of individuals who chose not to educate themselves before engaging in consumption of any dietary supplement or anything for that matter? Those few individuals choose to be uninformed. Again, it falls under that category of  freedom of choice. This is equivalent to one person being arrested for drunk driving and the whole neighborhood being reprimanded for the actions of one person's unwise decision. Please do not punish the rest of us for being educated and exercising my rights to options. Yet lawmakers have time to sit down and select this non-issue as a bill to put on the table for review. In closing, please vote that you oppose bill S. 3002.

Thank you,

Just imagine, the following happening.  It is late, after 1 a.m., and you put your children to bed and got in your car being oh so cautious not to be spotted by the local authorities. You pick up your disposable cell phone and you make a call to confirm your meeting for an exchange of cash and mechandise. In a dark alley in a place you are unfamiliar with, you are alone in your car waiting with the lights off. You get nervous every time a car passes on the street ahead, Suddenly, the door opens to the seeming abandoned building behind you. You see your contact and he jumps in th car and tell you to drive around the neighborhood. You ask do you have the stuff. He says yes and asks do you have the cash. You pass him the money and he gives you the brown paper bag that was stuffed in his coat. He also tells you that it will be a little longer when the next shipment comes in. You ask what happened and he tells you that the boat from the small island that he get his products from was delayed by customs. You say ok and thanks as he jumps out the car and sprints to his next appointment. You drive home and make it to your door hoping that no one saw you. You check on your kids and your spouse who are sound asleep. You go into your basement with the brown paper bag. You open the bag just to do your inventory of your purchase. You are so relieved to see the things that you were waiting on. You open the bottle and smile. Open you mouth and pop one of the capsules. In the back of your mind thinking, I had to go through all of this just for some Goldenseal, Echinacea, and Vitamin C! What has this world come to?

Just a little story from my imagination that is not to far off from reality if this law passes!
