PROPERTIES OF ZEOLITES
Zeolites are natural porous alumo-silicates which have crystalline structure and include almost all the chemical elements found in the body. Clinoptilolite is the most abundant member of the 48 minerals in the zeolite group. Its approximate empirical formula is (Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Na)3-6Si30Al6O72.24H2O. Typical mineralogical composition: 95% Clinoptilolite, minor amounts of feldspar and smectite.
The reason zeolites are now attracting so much interest lies in their strict crystalline structure with minute channels running in different directions which have a negative charge allowing the absorption and adsorption of heavy and radioactive metals and numerous toxins. Most toxins are positively charged, while zeolites have a negative collective charge, which allows them to act as a sieve for such substances, attracting them into zeolites' numerous channels and removing them out of the body. This property was used during the Chernobyl disaster - a huge amount of zeolite was thrown into the reactors, and was used to de-contaminate people and objects. People were given zeolite with food to help remove radiation out of their bodies. This property is extensively used nowadays by the military forces for the same reasons.
Another very interesting property of zrolites is selective ionic exchange between the chemical elements in its structure and the environment they are in (e.g. the body of a living organism). Zeolites have almost all the elements of the Periodic Table. Thanks to their ionic exchange property, they provide the body with the elements it needs for healthy functioning, while taking out of the body what it has in abundance or simply does not need. This is what can be called an "intelligent" ionic exchange.
In Russia and the United States zeolite (clinoptilolite) is used in the production of food supplements. In some other countries (e.g. Cuba) clinoptilolite has been used to produce an anti-diarrhoea medicine which is successfully used to treat dysentry and other gastro-intestinal disorders, including food poisoning. In Russia clinoptilolite has been included into a group of entero-donor-sorbents. The crystalline structure of zeolites is the only one which cannot be destroyed under any circumstances. It is what is called 'permanently living'.
One more very important factor is the catalytic property of zeolites. It means they have the potential to normalise biochemical processes in the body which cannot take place without certain micro- and macro-elements. These elements are supplied to the body by zeolites.
ZEOLITE (CLINOPTILOLITE) AND ANIMALS
Zeolites are the most accessible minerals to both animals and humans. Animals have been observed to restore their mineral homoeostasis by gorging on natural zeolites (up to 10-20kg!). There is a name for this phenomenon - lithophagia. Nowadays zeolites are used in agriculture in Russia in animal feeds with the purpose of strengthening the immune system of farm animals, regulate metabolism, prevent gastro-intestinal infection. The result is healthy offspring, healthy growth, good overall health. They have also demonstrated increased fertility and the birth of healthy offspring in a large number of studies on animals.
Zeolites have a strictly calibrated pore size (about 4 Angstroms - A). This allows a zeolite structure to be absorbent only in relation to ions of micro- and macro-elements and structures of small sizes (ammonia, hydrogen sulphate, methane, etc, without getting in direct contact with vitamins, amino acids, proteins and other complex organic structures). Which means, that compared to other sorbents which should not normally be taken longer than 2 weeks, clinoptilolite can be used for a long time, since it does not absorb (and consequently does not extract) the above mentioned important substances (vitamins, amino acids, proteins, etc.) out of the body. Zeolite simply cannot absorb them due to a small structure of its channels.
Natural zeolites do not get absorbed into the digestive system and cannot get into the blood circulation in their crystalline form. They pass in transit, only interacting with the body on the the selective ionic exchange level when in contact with the blood and lymphatic vessels of the intestinal wall, providing micro- and macro-elements, collecting toxins and acting as a catalyst in chemical reactions.
PROPERTIES OF CLINOPTILOLITE
Very strong "magnet" for heavy metals and radioactive substances facilitating their removal out of the body. This property is used where people are exposed to radiation (both now and in the past).
Acts as a sponge for toxins, attracting them into its numerous channels and removing them out of the body via eliminatory system.
Promotes detoxification processes in the liver, reducing its toxicity.
Improves immunity and resistance of the body to stress.
Normalises lipid, protein and carbohydrate's metabolism.
Stimulates reproductive function.
Optimises functioning of the Endocrine System.
Prevents narrowing of the blood vessels.
Promotes an increase of the area for biochemical reactions in the bowel, thus improving the intake of nutrients (vitamins, minerals, amino-acids).
Promotes regularity of bowel movements, thus contributing to its overall health.
Helps prevent anaemia.
Promotes removal of free radicals out of the body.
By acting as a sorbent and cleanser for the body cells, helps establish and maintain health on the cellular level.
Helps to maintain healthy cell membraines, thus reducing chances of malignant tumour formations.
INTAKE
Clinoptilolte is normally taken twice a day, half a teaspoon diluted in 200ml of water (use a non-metallic spoon and cup) in the morning and before bed time. A break should be made between its intake and meals (about 1 hour before or after). If medications are taken, care should be taken, since clinoptilolite can neutralise their action. In cases of kidney problems, pregnancy clinoptilolite is not recommended.
In cases of food poisoning, diarrhoea, bacterial infections, larger doses are known to be taken by some people (1-2 tablespoons). Obviously, a hospital treatment should be sought first and foremost in any such cases.
ZEOLITE & CANCER - SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

pavelic@rudjer.irb.hr "Natural silicate materials, including zeolite clinoptilolite, have been shown to exhibit diverse biological activities and have been used successfully as a vaccine adjuvant and for the treatment of diarrhea. We report a novel use of finely ground clinoptilolite as a potential adjuvant in anticancer therapy. Clinoptilolite treatment of mice and dogs suffering from a variety of tumor types led to improvement in the overall health status, prolongation of life-span, and decrease in tumors size. Local application of clinoptilolite to skin cancers of dogs effectively reduced tumor formation and growth. In addition, toxicology studies on mice and rats demonstrated that the treatment does not have negative effects. In vitro tissue culture studies showed that finely ground clinoptilolite inhibits protein kinase B (c-Akt), induces expression of p21WAF1/CIP1 and p27KIP1 tumor suppressor proteins, and blocks cell growth in several cancer cell lines. These data indicate that clinoptilolite treatment might affect cancer growth by attenuating survival signals and inducing tumor suppressor genes in treated cells."
