I was wondering how many of you here had kids and if you've had a difficult time raising them healthy once they started interacting with other kids? I was thinking about kids in the future and how it might be a challenge if they see other kids at school eating unhealthy things at lunch or say at birthday parties or other social events.

Maybe you could share tips about this. Here's my suggestion -

I don't have any kids yet, but I did buy a whole set of bento box tools to make good, interesting lunches for them so hopefully they don't trade with other kids. I'm tempted to use them for myself, but it seems like a lot of work for an adult lunch everyday. For those of you who are not familiar with the art of making bento lunches, it is something that Japanese women do to show their love for their kids, husbands, or for themselves. Bento's are usually not traditionally vegan or raw, but they could definitely be modified, you just might not be able to do everything, like the moldable food. Everything is edible - the fine details on the faces are made from nori sheets. Here's a pic I got from the web.

Anyone else have suggestions for health habits when kids social and/or not with the parents?

I was thinking about posting this question earlier, I don't have any kids but I have my first on the way and I would appreciate any insight into raising a healthy baby, I've been reading about alternatives to infant formula(vegan milk products fortified with greens),  but I've also read that on e has to be careful with the greens selected because of mercury levels. But I would really like to hear from the people about what they give to their young ones, and any other tips and insights would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 18 month-old daughter. She is in daycare while I am at work. I supply all of her food - usually pumped breastmilk, rice milk, fruit, snacks, and lunch. She mostly eats whatever I eat (we're vegans). The only issue I heard was she gets jealous of kids who have crackers, so we bought some organic rice crackers for her as a snack. So far, I haven't had any trouble.

oops I meant to say if you made the bentos vegan or raw you might NOT be able to do all the things like the moldable food. Although now, i think you could make some sort of a date paste and cover with nuts to fit the animal shape molds.

Lucky kids!!! lol
I think that this is a great idea but you know the other kids is gonna be hatin on your children right?! lol
that was my issue coming up. I always hated enduring the taunts from my piers!!! They couldn't get the vegetarian thing. I had pasta one day and they said gross that's disgusting. And I actually listened to those losers. Tell me why the very next day this guy was eating pasta with meatballs??? (this was back in the third grade) lol
I was confused!!! Took me a while to understand the hataratiom dynamic.

Make sure your kids know why they are eating different. My only defense for my eating habits were a bible verse and my mammas golden word!!! That just made me more wierd and alienated!!! lol

I think as long as your children are comfortable confident and proud to be different they will be straight. But of course curioisity will need satisfaction so they might slip a few sugary sweets lol.

My main issue was confusion. I didn't really know why I was eating different from the other kids I was just going on faith in my parents.

Kids can be so cruel can't they? I was always taunted for being different. A lot of people can't understand when another person is progressive or on the next level. I was always considered the weirdo. When I was very small, their taunts back then made me wish I was more like them (clothes, appearance, food, things my parents let me do). Crazy, but you know young kids are impressionable.  But crazy how these people flip the script when they finally catch on ages later. I was taunted for thrift store clothing, but now that its "trendy" they're all over it. My asian food was gross to them, but now they love it. The popular girls who ignored me, now want to talk to me. The same boys who used to pull on the corners of their eyes and scream make-shift chinese at me are now all trying to spit game at me. Go figure!

And I believe it's very important to explain what the reason behind the difference is. A lot of parents will answer their children with "because i said so" or "don't question my authority type answers" I think that only causes youth to rebel and do destructive things because they are given no good reason why things are done a certain way.

I don't think this counts as a supplement, but I will definitely be giving yummy green smoothies. I hear it's an excellent first food for babies too.
