Court rules State of New York can seize land to build new arena for New Jersey nets!

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York's top court says the state can use eminent domain to force homeowners and businesses to sell their properties for a massive development in Brooklyn that includes a new arena for the New Jersey Nets.

In a 6-1 ruling Tuesday, the Court of Appeals says the Empire State Development Corp.'s finding that the area was blighted was enough to justify taking the land.

A group of tenants and owners claim the seizure is unconstitutional. They say developer Bruce Ratner's proposed $4.9 billion, 22-acre Atlantic Yards project mainly enriches private interests, while the state constitution requires public use for taking land.

Ratner's proposed development includes office towers, apartments and a new arena for the NBA's Nets.

Government gon' keep on screwing the people, after all, people keep financing the same tyrannical government (via bullshit elections and tax dollars) that ignores their constitutional rights. Man, taking private land for non-public purposes.

Key phrase is BLIGHTED! This means only poor people will be screwed as poor people generally live in blighted areas, or so-called blighted areas.

You have to remember that these franchises are owned by billionaires. They, in turn, choose the commissioner. Therefore, David Stern works for the NBA owners, just like Roger Goddell was selected by the NFL owners. They pay his $3.5 million annual salary.

As for leagues, I learned that the NFL is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation. That explains all the sponsorships they receive. Companies can use those sponsorship dollars as tax write-offs. I learned about the NFL's legal status when I researched the case of Al Davis vs NFL. The affidavit listed the NFL as a 501c3 corporation and its purpose is sports entertainment. The only other entity that uses the term "sports entertainment" is the WWE.

There is NO pure sport in America. With the American Sports Empire worth nearly $270 billion, gladiators cannot be allowed to determine the outcomes of sporting events.
