For me, the main point is how when we address certain realities that exist in our communities, we're vilified. Yet, whites can create a show like
HUNG, make it a comedy and call it social commentary about doing what's necessary to survive. Where's Bill Bennett and the Christian Coalition on this? Where's Pat Robertson? You have a major network airing a show about pimping. Or, because the woman is the pimp and the male is the ho, there's no outrage. If it's wrong in one place, it's wrong everywhere.
Dr. Amos Wilson talks about America having a criminal culture and nature. The main criminal is obsessed with criminality to the point where he seeks out criminality in others. That's why it's easy to criminalize brothers who engage in the pimp or dope game due to economic conditions that offer little choices to escape poverty. Yet, the architects of the ghettos and barrios who use criminal methods to create these economically starved areas are never addressed or called out. And they have the nerve to talk about "family values". I guess the governor from South Carolina missed that class to get some salsa in Argentina
