Peace All,

I've been reading dherbs articles for awhile now and am a recent lurker on the boards.  I was wondering if you all would share your favorite natural products whether from a dherbs recommendation or otherwise.  Here are mine:

FOOD:  Earth Balance Vegan spread, Rice Dream, Almond Breeze, Nature's Path cereal, Garden of Eatin' tortilla chips, lots of Whole Foods "365 Organic" products

HEALTH/BEAUTY:  Dudu-Osun Black Soap, Dr. Bronner's Eucalyptus Liquid Soap, Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar (hair), Queen Afua's green clay, Desert Essence toothpaste, Madina Corp. Shea Butter,

OTHER:  Seventh Generation Eucalyptus and Fir Tree laundry detergent AND tile cleaner

Lookin forward to ur responses.
Peace.

depending on the type you get, a mix of soy protein, palm fruit, canola and olive oil.

First, welcome to the board ab_hehi metu ra_eb!

Tell me about that acv on the hair? Is that as an astringent? I know it's good on the skin.

I brush my teeth with Auromere mint toothpaste and gargle with Vita myr mouthwash. I'm thinking of making my own toothpaste and mouthwash though.

For my hair (and in my soap dispenser), I use Dr.Bronner's hemp soap. My favorite scents are almond and lavender. I also use the Nature's Gate Daily Herbal Conditioner. I really like that stuff.

I use that African black soap that they chop off the block for you on my face. On my body I use Nubian Heritage. My favorites are the black seed soap, coconut, the black soap, and the mango one.

For moisturizer I use sweet almond oil on my body and dherbs.com's Oz Oil on my face. That Oz Oil is something else. It seems to bring out a glow. In the winter I'll use raw shea butter mixed with essential oils though. I've also found (quite by accident) that if I massage some olive oil into my skin while in the shower, it makes my skin real soft and it won't dry out.

I use Nature's Blessings hair pomade as a lip balm....hey it says on the label that it's excellent for chapped lips, and it is! I used to use vasoline all the time, but this is better. Plus it's the only natural product I've found that doesn't irritate.

I really like Hemp Bliss as a milk substitute. Especially the vanilla and chocolate flavors. I made a cereal today with some vanilla Hemp Bliss. It was so good! I ground up some raw oats, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and raisins together. Throw in some cacao nibs, and you're in business!

I guess that's pretty much it. Most of my stuff is off brand. lol

Thanks Goddyssey!

I used to make my own mouthwash from vodka, veg glycerine, boiled water and some spearmint essential oil; worked real well.  I actually use the Desert Essence neem toothpaste about once a week though I do brush daily and follow up with a tea tree oil-soaked chew stick.

Got to love the Dr. Bronner's, such a legit product and message.  Also been a fan of black soap for many many years. For my face, I'll use this Ayurveda soap that I've forgotten the name of or I'll use the Nubian Heritage shea butter, olive oil cleansing compound.

Thanks for the heads up on mixing the shea butter with essential oils; will definitely be adding that to my post-spiritual bath aromatherapy sessions.

As far as the ACV, I do use it as a rinse and astringent after a black soap or ayurveda soap scalp wash.   I used to use an ACV/baking soda mix to just wash, but I have locs and the baking soda granules would get caught in my scalp. After they dry, I'll apply some shea butter and tea tree oil on any dry parts and will now be mixing in other essential oils, too!

I think I like using natural beauty and health products because one can essentially use the same product for different parts of the body and such.

Peace!

Dag, vodka?! I'm sure it wasn't no germs left after that! LOL Okay you mentioned veg glycerine. I think I have some of that stuff. If I'm not mistaken, it's supposed to be a good emollient for the skin (and hair too actually!). Now I'ma have to dig it up and make use of it somehow. I seem to remember a recipe for toothpaste that included salt, baking soda, lemon, I think peroxide, and a few drops of peppermint oil. And I was thinking for a gargle maybe just some peroxide and peppermint oil. Vodka never crossed my mind.

Yeah, I love the messages on the bottles. It's weird how I'll catch a line that speaks directly to me while showering or whatever I may be doing.

Oh your skin will feel like silk if you apply the shea butter after a nice bath! I remember when I first learned that perfume was harmful to your health, skin, etc. I started purchasing fragrant oils. I really thought I was doing something until I read that fragrant oils ain't shit either! lol So I switched it up to essentials. It's great b/c they serve a dual purpose: fragrance and whatever healing or otherwise beneficial properties they serve either through the skin or nose!

Thanks for the info on the acv. I chopped all my hair off about a year ago (just to do something lol) and kept it really short until Jan. when I got my last hair cut. Now it's starting to get a little length to it so I have to start thinking about actually caring for it again. Those clippers are looking mighty tempting! lol

You might want to try mixing in some jojoba oil too. That's good for the hair, and I heard rosemary essential oil is too.

Yes! I remember I used to take great care to make sure what I used on my body didn't touch my face, what I used on my face didn't touch my hair and all that mess. Now it doesn't matter! I can go from head to toe with the same product! Being a woman though, you know I can't do that! Still gotta use different products. It's psychological! Cheesy

Peace!

That just made me think, do you all use any chlorine filtering systems for your water?  I live in the city and I see a DRAMATIC difference in the way my skin reacts to the water with the chlorine filters.  I use the Rainshow'r bath ball and shower dechlorinator.

Vinegar, ordinary distilled white vinegar is the wonder cleaner! I use it to clean everything. Especially works wonders with clothes, bleaches them without the fabric damage and helps darker clothes remain that way.

Oh yeah, I've heard that as well.  Especially for yellow pit stains.  Vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.
