I bought a good juicer from Sears for $149.99.  It's stainless steel too, I believe the name is Breville.

It sounds like you had a bad experience with a cheap juicer and if so what is the name of it so I won't end up buying it.  Also what are your thoughts on the JackALane Juicer???  It's about $100.00

Hey hey, from my experience with Jack Lalanne I could not juice greens(spinach, parsley, etc...) but it was still useful.

i got the JackLalane juicer, the pulp comes out dry (it makes alot of juice) , its easy to clean and you dont have to cut your fruits/veggies up that much to fit them into the chute.

I was going to say maybe consider Jack Lalanne juicer as a starter one. It's $99 at Bed Bath and Beyond. Usually they send out those coupons like every week to get 20-25% off any purchase so that can save you as well. That was my first one and I didn't have problems with it.

Thats what I have...and a Vita mix. The lalanne juicer sacrifices efficiency for convienience you can basically throw in whole apples but I also have a real old school 80s juicer thats more efficient but you have to dice everything before you throw it in.

Blendtec blender is wonderful.  Similar to the Vita-mix

I would have to say from personal experience, mine is worth every penny to me. However, I did not pay $500 for it. One thing you could do if you are interested in one is to buy a refurbished one (usually demos in store or sent back from someone who used it for the trial period of 30 days and checked out for problems, or so Vita-Mix says) or you could purchase one brand new and decide before 30 days if you like it, if not send it back.  They also have a payment plan that allows you to break it up and pay for it over 3 months, if that would make it more affordable.

It is a pretty powerful blender and breaks up the fruits and veggies to a smooth juice, so I can get all of the fiber.

I brought the Sharper Image Super Juicer back in April for 79.00 plus tax at Macy's.  I use it everyday, I haven't brought juice since.  Its my first juicer so I don't have much to compare it to but it's easy to clean.
