I was wondering I heard something on the radio about since obama is in office there is no need to celebrate black history anymore.  We have so called reached the mountaintop.  The question is should America continue to celebrate black history month.

Nobody ever went to the Hispanics and said to stop celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. No one ever questions European Jews for celebrating their heritage. It's always US that has to make the "crossover" move.

It's not even about America. It's about us and what Black History means to African people domestically and globally.

As for Obama, what does he care about African people in this country? When Obama's mentor (former NSA director Zbigniew Brzenzski) who stated that black unity was the greatest internal threat to the security of the US and must be stopped at all costs, that tells you where Obama's "benign neglect" of African people originates.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH IS TRASH ANYWAYS. WE DON'T NEED A GOVERNMENT/SOCIETY ORDAINED MONTH TO RECOGNIZE THE LEGACY OF AFRICAN PEOPLE. ITS LIKE PEOPLE BEING SAD IF KWANZAA WAS CANCELLED, WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE THINGS AND WHO CREATED THEM.

The origins of Black History Month began with Carter G. Woodson, not the Feds. Woodson developed a Negro History Week to chronicle the accomplishments of African people throughout history.

Kwanzaa was the brainchild of Maulana Karenga in '66. This was to cut across all ideologies that African people embrace and reinforce seven principles (Nguzo Saba) that will unify African people without the need for uniformity.

It's not about America recognizing it. It's about African people recognizing and celebrating themselves EVERYDAY.

When Carter G. Woodson came with Negro History Week, he started with our pre-colonial past (before the Arabs and Europeans). He would give out tidbits on a regular basis. The same with his contemporaries like Arthur Schomburg, J.A. Rogers, Hubert Harrison and George Washington Williams.

That may be the charge to your generation. Your generation may have to begin to establish an everyday celebration of African history. It may come in the form of an e-newsletter or a series of graphic novels.
