Angry I have to do another essay and I drew the short straw of the death penalty.  I was wondering what you guys take is on it? I am very ambivalent about this topic and hoping to get some insight.

I saw an excellent film called A Time To Kill with Samuel Jackson which was very good. I don't want to spoil the film so I won't give an annotation on what the film is about but that movie has me thinking about the law and so called justice system we have.

Disregard if you want to see movie "A Time To Kill"(1996)
It takes place in the south and that's racism and the hatred of blacks by whites. Samuel L. Jackson has a 10 year old daughter who is walking home from the grocery store and two white men who are driving along the road see her and throw a beer can at her she falls and they grab her take her to a nearby field tie her up and one by one take turns raping her. After they were done they tried to hang her but the branch was to weak and she fell back to the earth.  She was beaten, she was raped, she was soaked in their blood, soaked in their urine, soaked in their semen, left for dead, but she survived.  So when Samuel Jackson heard of what happened to his little girl he went to the courthouse where the guys who committed the crime were going to be sentenced and when they show up Samuel Jackson Kills them.  Does He Deserve The Death Penalty

I'm somewhat against it because look at the number of people that are falsely accused, especially before the days of DNA testing...not to mention the Innocent people that were executed for a crime they never committed.  I believe that at the end of the day,  we all have to pay for the consequences of our actions....let God repay...afterall He knows that there are 3 sides to every story....1 side...the other side...THEN the truth!!!!

I second that!!! Too many people of color are in jail becuase of BS!!!! I can't even imagine how many people went to their graves knowing they were innocent!! A lot of the people who put them knew they were innocent as well. Until they can find a sure fire way to prove guilt...shelve "ol sparky".

Maybe for your essay you can begin with the history behind the death penalty, And try to find when in history it became a hotel for minorities. I would say def talk abotu the disparity in race (not only blacks, but latinos). If you can throw some facts around, like which states approve of death penatly, which dont, how many get killed a year etc. On a positive note, you can talk about organizations who fight and many times successfully get people off death row via DNA and appeals. I think in GA there is a organization call Georgia innocent project or Georgia dna project and thats what they do. back to the negative side, you can talk about the psychological aspects of being on death row. and the fact that the state gets ready to kill a person and then offers them the best meal of their life... what kind of mind game is that? Lastly, you can talk abotu the ethics/moral issues surrounding death penalty: who am i to kiill someone? Does that make me a murderer also? Discuss alternatives. Good Luck!
